So my dad and i recently got into building pcs, and were wondering if anyone had some suggestions on motherboards for testing the functionality of CPUs. We just need something a bit cheap that could work on most CPUs in todays market.

Hello, I'm not sure if this is the right place for this issue, but here it goes, I've recently noticed that GPUZ in the Bus Interface section says that my gpu supports PCIe x16 but its currently running at x8.1 I googled it, found some people say that it's not running at its full potential if I use multiple gpus, in my case I'm only using 1 gpu, searched the entire bios and there were no options on this. Can someone explain me how do I make it run at x16 instead of x8? Thank you Also bios is updated. here's a list of my setup mobo - MSI z170 A Pro gpu - zotac gtx 960 2gb mini 1fan (pcie 3) cpu - i5 6600k at 4.4 ghz ram - avexir 16gb at 3000mhz xmp enabled.

Hey, I'm choosing between the onboard audio of two motherboards, the MSI B250 Gaming M3 and the ASROCK B250 Gaming K4. I really care about my audio quality but cannot afford to spend more cash on sound cards or external DAC/AMP. I will be using it for a lot of music listening and content creation. I don't mind the more expensive MSI Motherboard but don't know if I will get better audio. I will be using the Audio Technica ATH-M50x headphones. LINKS: MSI B250 Gaming M3 - https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B250-GAMING-M3.html#productFeature-section ASROCK B250 Gaming K4 - http://www.asrock.com/MB/Intel/Fatal1ty B250 Gaming K4/index.asp#Overview Your help is much appreciated:)

Ok guys so like the title suggests I have no idea which of these three motherboards to buy for my new PC. Around this price point I believe they are the best z270 motherboards out there right now and I need to decide which one is the best for me or maybe the best in general (if there is any)The other parts of my build are:i7 7700kPhanteks Enthoo Pro M ASUS ROG GeForce GTX 1070 STRIXEVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2 80+ GOLD 750WNoctua NH-U14S 140mmSamsung 960 EVO Series - 250GB PCIe NVMe - M.2 Internal SSD G.SKILL TridentZ Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 3200 or 3400 MhzAOC G2460VQ6 1080p 24" MonitorI'm gonna be using this system for gaming, editing, encoding, ripping, mainly these kind of stuff. My main concern with the motherboard is which of these can support the most stuff (SSDs, HDDs, sound card etc.) and at full speed. Also build quality and special features (Software). I'd like to have the biggest "upgradability"(is that even a word? xD) possible for future upgrades. As you can see I have not included a sata ssd or an hdd in there as I'm in a budget and I can't afford it right now but in the future I want to upgrade or maybe buy another M.2 NVME SSD maybe add a sata SSD too, I will also most likely upgrade the cooler later down the road with an AIO cooler, I'm also considering buying a sound card (Is it worth it?) and for SURE I want to add a good blu ray drive in there too. Also I'm planning on overclocking for sure. Do you guys think I can do some decent overclocking with the NH-U14S?Something I've seen a lot on reviews here and there is that many motherboards don't support M.2 ssds at their full speed mostly when you have 2 or three of them. I've also heard that when you connect m.2 ssds on your mobo some sata ports or PCIe slots are disabled. Any information on this matter would also be much appreciated. So as you can see I want to do quite some stuff with this PC, I hope I've provided good enough information and MUCH MUCH love and appreciation to whomever takes the time to answer and help me out here. Also sorry for the wall of text and going off topic with some questions. Not sure if this is the right place to post this, I'm new here so I'm not familiar with the sire but don't worry, I'm a fast learner. Anyway thanks in advance guys

Hello LTT users, I'm planning on building myself a new rig, so I'll have leftover parts from my current Dell machine. I was thinking of selling the parts and wanted to know how much I could reasonably ask for them. Note that I will be selling local so there won't be any shipping costs. Here's what I'm looking find a price for: Dell Inspiron 580 case with front panel devices (card reader, audio, USB), CD/DVD combo drive, motherboard equipped with i3 540 3.06GHz dual core with HT (includes cooler), 2 x 4GB DDR3, and the exhaust fan. All data cables are there for all devices on/in the case. No power supply, storage, operating system or expansion cards will be included. Thanks to anyone that takes the time to answer. -Darren

Hello LTT users! I am kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place. I was looking at upgrading my current rig (specs below) but realized that prices for the parts I would be interested in are completely ridiculous. I was thinking that a good move for now would be to not try to upgrade my current platform, but to move to a newer platform with a viable upgrade path. Please do not suggest Kaby Lake. Here's my current rig: Dell Inspiron 540. It's got the i3 540 in it and I've thrown in a Samsung SSD 850 EVO 240GB, GTX 760 ti (OEM, basically a GTX 670), and a Seasonic M12ii 520w Bronze EVO Edition power supply because the old one was making some unsettling sounds. Here's what I was considering: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Pentium G4400 3.3GHz Dual-Core Processor ($57.88 @ OutletPC) Motherboard: ASRock H110M-HDS Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($46.99 @ SuperBiiz) Memory: Mushkin Essentials 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2133 Memory ($47.99 @ Directron) Case: Zalman Z3 ATX Mid Tower Case ($29.99 @ Amazon) Total: $182.85 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2017-01-14 13:20 EST-0500 Yes, I know I'm planning on putting a mATX motherboard in an ATX case. That doesn't bother me. Note that I only have $200 and that budget won't be increasing any time soon. I'd like it to be below $200. I live in the United States, currency is USD. I was just wondering if this seemed like a good plan for now. All advice is welcome. -Darren

So I just got a Xeon E5-2650L V3 ( https://ark.intel.com/products/81903/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E5-2650L-v3-30M-Cache-1_80-GHz ) second hand for pretty cheap and I'm not quite sure if you can just use any X99 board or not (specifically https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA9H53ZX8823 ) I've heard some places say that some motherboards wont fully saturate all xeons which im not conerned about I just need it to work as a node in a render farm for cinema 4d. since I'm also not sure, do I have to buy ECC memory or is it optional. Thanks

I am going to be building a desktop computer soon. I want the computer to be using daily for like surfacing the Internet and checking emails to. Plus in school I am in a video game design class and I want to put that program on this computer I am going to build to make some games. I also sometimes multitasking with Internet tabs or windows open on it. What would be a good mother board and cpu should I get for that. I do not want AMD I want to stick with Intel.

Hello all. I would like to know, if a motherboard has 2 x CPU Fan Connectors (1x4 pin, 1x3 pin), can I use 3 pin to connect a normal case fan (which is also 3 pin) or would that be a bad thing to do? Another question. If I connect a 3 pin fan to 3 pin connector, how do I control it's speed? Via BIOS by decreasing voltage (12V, 7V, 5V) or does motherboard regulate speed itself? (I don't trust her ) Here is the link to some ASrock motherboards I have been looking: http://www.asrock.com/mb/compare.asp?Models=Z270M Pro4,Fatal1ty B250M Performance,B250M Pro4,Z270M Extreme4 Also let's take a look at Z270M Extreme4. It has 1 x Chassis Optional / Water Pump Fan Connector (4-pin)...this can be used for connecting a normal chassis fan right?

I have a question about overclocking. So, i will buy an Intel Core i5-6500, MSI B150A Gaming Pro, 8 GB Corsair Vengeance LPX, and an Asus EX-GTX 1050 Ti-4 GB I hope i could run Battlefield 1 in 1080p with High settings. But my cpu is only 3.2 GHz, and the game is require 3.5 GHz cpu. My questions is: -Can i run this in 1080p with High settings? (without overclocking) -If not, how can i run it? is there any components that i need to change? -if i can overclock my cpu, how can i do it? I dont really need 60fps at all, so if i only get 50fps in average... its ok.

Hello LTT users! I'm hoping to create like a sort of mega thread about the lack of innovation seen on modern motherboards. If this is in any way discouraged, I encourage the moderator team to let me know and I'll adjust the thread accordingly. My main topics of discussion: 1) Quality of the PCB itself (I don't really think this has changed too much) 2) Power delivery systems 3) Onboard cooling solutions (or lack thereof) 4) The lack of many useful changes coming to ATX boards (why do SFF boards get all the attention) 5) The amount of stuff you're getting for the price (sales don't count) To sum up my opinion of the recent market changes, Asus has lost my respect. Why would you only cool half of the MOSFETs? Do the other half just instantly overheat? Now before you say that CPU coolers provide socket airflow, we need to consider that many are using AiO liquid coolers which put a pump at the socket instead of a fan. Even their signature TUF series of boards are lacking proper MOSFET cooling. For $150, you think I'd be getting something better than a piece of aluminum slapped over half the MOSFETs. http://pcpartpicker.com/products/compare/k4dFf7,jQqbt6,7BZ2FT,9L2rxr/ http://pcpartpicker.com/products/compare/m9X2FT,xwH48d,8GtWGX,z4wqqs/ -Darren

So I have been debating on getting a ryzen, and I decided to might as well go ahead and do it. Im planning on getting the Ryzen 1500X along with a GTX 1060. I have no clue what mobo I should get though, so can I get a bit of assistance? I am still very new to the PC master race, as you can see with my current pc specs. Thank you! These forums are great!

Sauce from ASRock themselves: http://www.asrock.com/news/index.asp?ID=3625 The marketing blurb: First the ultimate X299 board: The Fatal1ty X299 Professional Gaming i9 (pretty much confirming an Intel Core i9 lineup coming). Built-in 10 GBit LAN on the back, all the PCIe 3.0 X16 slots, 3 M.2 slots all of which are full PCIe 3.0 4x slots, and of course all the RGB. Others are also on their merry way, including the X299 Taichi. Next, the very impressive and super puny but oh my god powerful X299E-ITX/AC. ITX X299 board, 4 SO-DIMM DDR4 slots, wireless AC WiFi, 2 gigabit Intel LAN ports, 3 (yes, 3) M.2 PCIe 3.0 x4 slots, the lot. Oh, and the socket itself is about 1/4th the size of the entire flippin' board. On to something else that's ridiculous: the H110 Pro BTC+. An H110 board solely for mining bitcoin with PCIe 3.0 1x cards. This has 12 of them (alongside a full sized X16 slot). Finally here's the first of 2 AM4 ITX boards. This one is the Fatal1ty X370 Gaming-ITX/ac. AC WiFi, (what seems like) a 6-phase power setup, Dual HDMI ports, Intel Gigabit LAN, the lot, an M.2 slot on the back. The other one is pretty much the same (as far as I can tell from the press release), but with the B350 chipset (and logically a lesser VRM setup as we've seen with all other B350 boards, big or small). So yeah. Maybe there's more to come, but at least I'm exited about AM4 on ITX. But have to say, that X299 ITX board is impressive as fuck. No word so far on AMD's X399 platform. Maybe later, or maybe it'll be an entirely separate event later in June/July.

So I recently purchased the MSI Z170A SLI Plus for my first ever build. I bought this with the intention of getting my first rig cheap and quick so I can start playing soon while having options to expand for memory, OC (if I ever want to), SLI, m.2, etc. I know I want to go with an i3 and I was thinking of the Intel - Core i3-6100 3.7GHz Dual-Core Processor as it has good reviews and all but I thought I would check with the community on this in case there is a better i3 option (6th generation or lower). I know I could go for an i5 but I am not looking to spend ~$200 for a CPU atm. Maybe later or upgrade towards an AMD (mobo including). Also, current build. Hello, I am C# developer and am into webapps and mobile app development(majorly android), want to start into game development using unity3d with C# scripting. Want to get a new rig for that because my laptop is not holding up with the softwares i need to use mainly Visual studio, unity 3d. Would it be better to build my own rig or get a prebuilt system. i wanted to build a workstation but there are a lot of options and whenever i settle for one part the other seems incompatible or an imperfect match. CPU i chose was 7700k but after seeing few of your videos thought of extreme series 6800k(should i look at no. of core or cpu clock speed??) motherboards should i get c612 chipset based or something else, does 1080 does the work or i should go for a quadro???? there is a lot of confusion so can you help me out with the right combination of cpu motherboard and gpu that can help me take things off the floor

Okay so i installed my new motherboard (GA-78LMT-USB3) and the front panel audio doesn't work. You see, i believe it is because the motherboard default is HD and my case is AC97 and i found no option to change in the bios. I tried to install another driver but the one 8.1 had already installed seemed to be such. If any of you know how to change it in the bios please tell me.

So I have a GIGABYTE GA970A DS3P motherboard and an FX 6300 CPU. I had it for about half a year now. Today was a power shortage and my PC was running at that time. When I came home it was stuck in a boot loop. First I would hear two short loud beeps. Then after a few seconds with a blank display, I would hear a normal post beep with the post screen appearing only for a split second. I can't enter the BIOS. Then after that the GIGABYTE DUAL BIOS UEFI screen would appear with no options. Just a blue background. I've tried everything from swapping RAM sticks around and resetting the CMOS. Still the same. Nothing works. I've taken the mobo out and unplugged everything. Still nothing. Here is a short video... https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B6X-knt7isx7U2dJdDNJY1RmRk0

I know that all of my choices were terrible but how much do you think I should put it up for sale for and any tips on what I could add or change that would add value and make more money. I want to get rid of this computer so I can use the extra cash to upgrade to a better newer computer. Why do all of the Z170/270 boards have the same number of USB ports/general I/O? Is it all down to the count of USB from the chipset? My previous AMD board had like 12 USB ports, but my current one only has like 6.
