Hi, Just been trying to get Phlex a custom voice command addon to use Plex. Sadly I've encountering annoying issues during the installation process which I cant solve. Been following this youtube guide: OK, so the step I'm stuck on is I cant seem to link my Google account with Phlex about 7mins into the tutorial. My error message. "Unable to connect to Client at http://localhost/phlex/, please check the setting for 'Public Address' in the Phlex UI." Any help on this would be great. Cheers.

Hey! I've been looking to buy a gaming keyboard for a while now, specifically one with dedicated media controls and Cherry MX Brown switches. I'm willing to spend a little more or a little less than $150. I've been eyeing up the Gskill Ripjaws KM780 RGB and the Corsair K70 LUX RGB but I was wondering if there were any other viable options for me right now. I currently do a lot of typing and gaming so it looked like the Brown switches were the way to go. If there is a diffferent switch I might like, refer me to that too. Thanks!

Hi, Just wanting to know how I can setup watching 3D content through my Plex server. Also does it work with the Desktop Plex media player?

I am considering building a PC but not too sure what route to go. Budget of $6000 I'm thinking of building a high core count machine running unraid to run free nas / windows / ubuntu server to all run as a gaming rig, nas, plex server. Would unraid be decent enough to do this from one rig or maybe not worth the effort? I know its very possible to run all of this out of one windows install and for the NAS just set up a raid SBM share.... Ideas? I'm thinking a threadripper build, over kill but expandability options for sure.

1. I am aware this issue only affects chrome users and is not limited to Floatplane. 2. I'm talking about the "Media playback was aborted due to a corruption problem" 3. Floatplane videos are basically unwatchable at this point for me because the crash occurs so frequently on multiple devices. You can see in the screenshot below it's crashed right at the intro only 20 seconds into the video. 4. When this crash occurs (which it almost always does) I have to hit F5 and then manually search through the timeline for where I was in the video as progress isn't retained. 5. This crash can happen up to 5 times (at which point I usually get mad and leave) in a standard up-to 10 minute LTT video. Longer format videos like Scrapyard Wars are actually unwatchable. I can sometimes make it through a FAP (ha) without the error. 6. I've already tried the following trouble shooting methods; re-installation of chrome (no effect, build-62.0.3202.94), clean windows image (on a spare SSD in my desktop, no effect), using my laptop on a different internet connection (no-effect). 7. I understand that there's little you can do to troubleshoot or fix this issue but I've seen it a single time on a different site, never on the vast majority of content I consume and up to 5 times a video on floatplane. 8. I appreciate the forum is a shorter term solution however unless this is sorted pretty soon I'm going to cancel my floatplane subscription. because the issues are effecting the perceived quality of the content I'm paying for. Sorry guys, keep up the good work on the new Floatplane!

All these NAS units with ARM chips never perform as they should (that I have experienced anyway). It would be cool for Linus to build one to these [very loose] specs, if he hasn't already 1) Small form factor. (micro-ATX??) On-board graphics would be fine for initial setup. Console-ish or similar, for placement in or near the entertainment center. 2) Intel I5 ( that should do, for trancoding) 3) Quiet as possible. 4) Gigabit networking 5) RAID redundancy ( 3TB data storage minimum, upgradeable of course) I could get by without hot swap, but would be nice, if case permits. 6) Remote interface ( no add'l monitor or keyboard needed after setup) 7) M2/SSD storage for the OS and PLEX

So i am planning a new server build for my home, now most of the parts are going to be used server hardware from refreshes which can be sourced via websites such as eBay. Now the budget will be around £350-400 without HDD's; no need for peripherals as it will be done via remote access. Now from what i have seen i can pick up an E3 Xeon for around £60 - £80 (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dell-T3500-Precision-Intel-Xeon-Quad-Six-Core-Tower-PC-Customisable-Windows-10/122653277587?hash=item1c8eb47d93:m:mFMGNPj7DuutsSKTLA-JhFg) Looking at up to £100 for a decent case with a large amount of 3.5" 6-10 spaces so i can have a decent amount of hard drives. motherboard up to £80 PSU - £40 ram - £20 no need for a GPU as i have a spare lieing around. I was looking at pre builds or refubs i can salvage for parts as that seems to be much more cost effective, but anyone has any pre built servers then please post them. I was looking at cases which were towers rather than server cases as a computer cases would be much easier to store for me and quieter also. Thanks for reading

Hi there, Hope everyone is doing great. I am Bilal from Pakistan. Back in 2011, I bought a Dell Latitude e6400. It runs with a Core 2 Duo (P8400) and 4GB RAM. I recently stumbled upon a video on YouTube where a guy turned his old laptop into a desktop PC. I thought I might turn mine into media PC to go with my TV. My plan is to simply use it to watch Netflix and YouTube or even move a step ahead and turn it into a media server. I could also use Kodi on top of everything and get a full media PC experience. I plan to either use wireless keyboard/mouse or one of those small keyboard/touchpad combo gadgets. What I already know is that I am not going to spend any substantial amount of money since it has to be a fun project. I want to know what you guys think about this plan. Regards

odroid h2 Odroid H2 as an Entertainment Center
Draygrah posted a topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
Hello everybody! I am planning to purchase an Odroid H2 x86 SBC, I will eventually use it as a Media Server and possibly some kind of personal NAS, with the capabilities of Emulating old consoles if needed too. But that's only after I get my new rig some time during the year 2020 for gaming. Before that, I was wondering if the board is powerful enough to run my favourite two competitive games: League of Legends and CS:GO. It is an x86 board, and thus should run Windows 10 no problem. It supports DDR4 RAM, and has Intel J4105 CPU with Intel UHD600 integrated gfx. Is it better to run the heavy Win10 and game through that, or maybe run Linux on it and run Wine/Lutris through it? It's a 300€ SBC with all the bits and pieces ordered with it, and I may just hold off ordering it yet if it can't run those two. Any thoughts about the Odroid H2 here? Any suggestions for what I should do here? Should I for example pour some more cash in this, and buy an Intel NUC instead? -
Let's make a confession about Linus Tech Tips, Linus Media Group, and Community. So Everyone will know better about this community is, based on our opinion it self I'm gonna start with my first impression after posting my build plan with Very Positive with Informative yet Funny response. from 1-10 how much about responsiveness, knowledge, behavior of this community? I'll give 9 (please don't judge me, you guys are great. love you all) Next, I'm want to confess about Linus. Dear Linus, You are great, you are good, you are smart. but you sometimes take something too seriously, especially from slick . poor slick. There you go. one from many. how about you guys ?

Is there any tutorials on how to make a media server (on any platform with max compatabilty) by using an old pc/laptop, over a local network.

Hi. I have built a media server for myself and I have equipped it with one 256 gb ssd and two 3 tb hdds. At the time I had gotten a tip that I should set it to raid 1, but lately I've been running out of storage space and have found out that the redundancy isn't that important to me. I'd rather have the other 3 tb. Is there any way to remove the raid 1 without removing all of the content on the disks? It's just movies and tv shows so it isn't a major crisis, but it would be a lot easier to not have to download it all once more. I should add that I love the tech tips show, but I am not super smart when it comes to computers. I know enough to build them and use them, but just over average about all the rest. Thanks in advance Regards, Reidar, Norway

Hi there, I have been following the LTT channel for while now but never took a tour on the forums. Now that I plan to replace/upgrade my file storage at home I think this is a good time to join the board I want to replace the way I store all my files. Currently I have a synology NAS for my "sensitive" data and my media are stored on several external HDD which I connect to my Linux DVB-S2 receiver. Not very efficient! I was hopping that the community could help me to select the best hardware I'll need. Here are a few thoughts: - I want the case to be rack mount, if possible with hot swap bays because it looks badass but it has to stay on the budget. - The same machine will be use to store my "critical" data and as Plex Media Server - My critical data aren't big files: it is pdf, text documents, spread sheets, some photos. For now it is only 300GB and it represents 12 years of work. For that part I thought that two 1TB drives mounted in RAID1 would be a great idea. Those data are also backed up in a remote location. - For my media I thought about four 4TB drives mounted in RAID10, not really sure about that... - Possibility to extend the storage capacity in the future. Could you give some tips about the hardware I should buy? I think that 500€, yes I'm European, should be the max budget (storage not included). What I currently have at home: nothing too good: - Asus P5Q-Pro - Intel Q6600 - Some DDR2 memory! - Some SSDs that I'll use for the os (Freenas or unraid?) Yeah, haven't followed the technology for some years now Well, I think this is it. Thank you for considering this and sorry for the eventual bad writing in English

So I am going to be building a new PC in about a week and I am looking at getting a Windows 10 product key off of Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Windows-10-Home-Download/dp/B01019BM7O/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1471711811&sr=8-2&keywords=windows%2B10%2Bhome%2Bproduct%2Bkey) and using the media creation tool from Microsoft to install Windows (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10). Will that be all I need? I just make a USB bootable drive with the Windows media tool thing on it, plug it into the new PC and install Windows. Then when it asks me for the product key I just put in the key Amazon gives me? That seems too easy but I've never done this before so I wouldn't know. My build if you are interested: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/RLPTJV Thanks for any help or opinions on my build!

So I'm looking for a new laptop for my study media design. The problem being that I am not really a ''tech-guy'' kind of person. I really couldn't tell what specs are needed for what tasks. My study will mainly focus on photo-editing and things alike, but also includes some video-editing classes. Which I think requires much better specs than you need for just photo-editing. Now according to my school they recommend a laptop with similar specs like the: ASUS VivoBook A541UA-DM127T. (15,6 inch Full-HD, Intel Core i5-6198DU, 8 GB, 128 GB SSD, Intel HD Graphics 510 (onboard)) Now ofcourse I could just pick the laptop with the best/biggest specs the store has to offer but I don't have 'that' much money, and the 2nd catch being the store I want to get the laptop only has limited laptop choices. Here's a list of laptops they do offer: Listed from the Asus Vivobook mentioned before to the most expensive one they offer. (doesn't include apple products) - Asus VivoBook A541UA-DM127T - Lenovo Ideapad 510-15ISK - ASUS ZenBook Flip UX360CA-C4044T - Lenovo Ideapad 510 15ISK - ASUS Pro P2438UA-FA0327T - Lenovo Ideapad 710S-13ISK - Lenovo Yoga 710-14ISK - ASUS ZenBook Flip UX360UA-C4136T - Lenovo Ideapad Y700-15ISK - ASUS VivoBook Pro N552VX-FW116T - ASUS ROG GL552VW-CN354T The reason why I chose this store is because they offer studentservices and allow to pay the laptop of in periods rather than spending a big pile of money in 1 go. (also no extra costs for doing so) I myself was thinking about the Lenovo Yoga 710-14ISK, It's reasonably sized for daily carriage and seems to be in the middle of specs minimal required and the best that I can get. But is it the best option? Like I said, I can't really tell... So I'm really hoping one of you guys could help me out here.. I'm looking for a laptop that: + is easy to carry on a daily basis (I think 13'' is too small but 17'' is too big) + can handle adobe creative suite programs (like photoshop, illustrator, after effects, premiere, etc) + is preferably not too loud (which could be argued as getting too hot) It's for media design study and is only used for that. It doesn't need to play games or whatever, it just needs to run the programs that I use smoothly. I also don't ''really'' care whether it's a windows laptop or an apple one.. but apple seems a bit too expensive.. I really hope you guys can help me out on this one cause I have no clue. Big thanks in advance!

Would it be better to build a NAS server and streaming server in one machine or build two separate machines? I was thinking of installing FreeNAS onto an SSD with two 3TB Western Digital Reds for storage with room for growth. On the streaming side throwing in another SSD for Windows, Twitch, and other minor applications. Not sure if it's possible to dual run both simultaneously though. If not, is there a better approach? Also, I am not too familiar with FreeNAS, does it support mobile devices and accessing anywhere?

Hey guys, I'm looking at building a sort of everything server which could be scalable (mainly for storage) in the future. The primary uses from the start would be data storage/NAS, media hosting, and VPN for overseas access to regional content(i.e. netflix, other streaming services, etc.). One of the major primary reasons for building this however is to stop paying dropbox $100 a year. It was great when I used all of the functionality dropbox had to offer, but now that I do not fully utilize the service, as well as privacy concerns and the convenience of being able to access more the 1TB remotely, this is what I have decided upon. Some uses later on could possibly include website hosting as well as game server hosting. I'm looking at this build that I put together on PC Part Picker from some quick research and reading over the past few days. http://pcpartpicker.com/list/XfZGGf Component Selection Base Promo Shipping Tax Price Where CPU Intel Xeon E3-1225 V5 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor $216.95 $216.95 SuperBiiz Buy CPU Cooler Phanteks PH-TC14PE_BL 78.1 CFM CPU Cooler $69.99 -$10.00 FREE $59.99 Newegg Buy $10.00 mail-in rebate Motherboard Supermicro MBD-X11SAE-F-O ATX LGA1151 Motherboard $239.99 FREE $239.99 Newegg Buy Memory Kingston FURY 16GB (1 x 16GB) DDR4-2133 Memory $71.99 $71.99 Amazon Buy Add Additional Memory Storage Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive $54.99 $54.99 Amazon(Overridden) Buy Western Digital Red 4TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive $149.49 FREE $149.49 B&H Buy Western Digital Red 4TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive $149.49 FREE $149.49 B&H Buy Add Additional Storage Video Card Choose A Video Card Case Fractal Design Define R5 (Titanium) ATX Mid Tower Case $94.99 $94.99 NCIX US Buy Power Supply Corsair RM 450W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply Some details on the build: As I said before, this first build is to just get me started with the ability to add storage later. I am planning on running Ubuntu off of the 120GB SSD, and running the WD Red 4TB drives in Raid 1 for an overall capacity of 4TB for data and whatever else I want. I have a license to Windows server as well, but am leaning towards Ubuntu simply because I want to try it out. I also need IPMI for remote management (or another suitable equivalent) as I will not be physically present with the server starting in September when I will also want to be utlizing the VPN functionality when I am moving out of the country for a bit. As listed on PC Part Picker, I have selected the motherboard becuase it has IPMI functionality, as well as the ability to add up to 6 more HDDs without needing to replace the motherboard/add more SATA connectors. The case and processor I am still not concrete on, as well as the PSU. Let me know what you guys think based on what I am trying to do. I've had a lot of experience with PC builds (especially for gaming) but servers are a relatively new ballpark for me. And lastly, I know a lot depends on my ISP connection for VPN and streaming capabilities. It's pretty good, I'm not looking for anything mind blowing, but will upgrade it if performance is really suffering. My budget is capped at $1300, with a preferable budget in the $7/800-$1100 price range.

So on my family PC, I have Linux Mint installed. I've already convinced 3 of my family members to start actively using Linux as their primary OS, but we've ran into some issues. My family PC has 3 SATA drives. The SSD one holds several partitions, including the root partition and is usually not the problem. Then there's two HDDs, none of them is partitioned, they are both formatted as NTFS. Linux Mint doesn't automatically mount HDDs, which is pretty f**king annoying, so I went into system settings application (you know, the control panel like application) and set both removable drives on all users to "automount on login". What this does is that it mounts the drive into /media/user1/drive2. And it all works fine, but when you login as another user, the drive won't automatically mount to /media/user2/drive2, you won't even be able to access /media/user1/drive2. I personally believe these mounting paths are kinda silly and I really wish there was an alternative where I could mount the drive into a (possibly static, always the same) folder that everyone was able to access, because that's really the point of those drives. I know it's kinda funny what kind of issues I'm having but it's annoying and it's turning my family off of Linux. Thank you in addition for any help.

Hello Guys, A couple of days ago my hyper x cloud 2 broke so i took it to the warranty and they told me they didnt have any on stock that i could wait till they have it or i can use the same amount of money to buy any other product in the store. So as im almost sure they are going to take months till they have that same headset on stock i want to use the money to build a media center for my living room, and i found a very cheap combo in this store. http://store.xellers.com.ar/productos/gabinetes-25/sentey-mini-itx-ss5-2514-450w/ CASE http://store.xellers.com.ar/productos/combos-de-actualizacion-27/combo-de-actualizacin-amd-sempron-2650-gigabytega-am1m-s2h-4gb-2/ Combo I know its a very cheap and old hardware but as I only want this to watch netflix and other media type things, I dont think its going to be a problem. I wanted to know if any of you guys knew how bad this build can be. Thanks in advance.

Hello there, I need some help finding good software to convert media, primarily audio. I usually don't mind what format something is on desktop/PC because VLC Player can pretty much play anything. But on mobile, and especially the iPhone, I can only import and play music that is .mp3 or .AAC. Unfortunately trying to have everything nicely organized with iTunes is neigh impossible. I have one large folder with everything in it that I then copy a specific folder/album of music to the itunes library as a playlist and then fix the file info there if needed. Usually no problem if the music is already mp3. My problem is that I have a lot of audio files that are .mp4 and .FLAC. I know iTunes itself can convert files but I want to avoid duplicates in the library. And I know VLC and convert media as well but every time I try it just makes a tiny data file and nothing else, so I'm doing something wrong there.. So how do you convert your media/audio files? What program(s) do you prefer for converting audio? I'm looking for something that is either for Mac or PC; don't care as long as it's reliable, has good options and compatibility, doesn't ruin the bitrate or anything else(artifacts or skips) when converting down from flac to mp3, keeps the metadata, and doesn't overwrite/directly replace the original files. Also something that can do several files at once(for an album) would be nice.

I'll start by saying that I had a 3 paragraph topic all written down for my question.... but something went wrong and I could not submit it, so I'm sorry for this sounding brief. TV in question https://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-UE49KS7500-Smart-Ultra-Curved/dp/B01FM722G0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1466131946&sr=8-2&keywords=Samsung+49+HDR I'm going to be able to run games for the most part at 60hz 4k, so that Isn't an issue, what I really want is a large display with vibrant and bright colours, but I'm worried that using a TV will have side effects. This TV has really good timings when It comes to Input lag (20ms) , so the big elephant in the room when it comes to TV displays isn't really a factor with this TV. If anyone can suggest when owning a monitor over this would be beneficial, please let me know. If anyone can suggest tech / Tv's that I should wait for, I'd also really like to know.
