Help me find a Wireless Ergonomic Back lit keyboard for my boss
JayTay posted a topic in Peripherals
Ok so I work at a software company and my boss asked me to find him a keyboard that is ergonomic since he codes 8 hours a day, Backlit because he does not like to turn on lights, and he would like it to be wireless so he can move it around as he likes. He currently has a Razer BlackWidow Ultimate and loves it but he says that it is starting to stress his hands and he is having to cut down the time the codes because of the lack of ergonomic curve. I looked for this mythical unicorn before Christmas and I had to report to him that it does not exist. He approached me last week and again I had nothing to show him. So if anyone knows of a keyboard like this please help me. Help me find this unicorn!!!- 6 replies

Hey guys. I facing a problem on choosing which keyboard should i buy and i came up with this theory. "is it worth to buy $200 on keyboard instead $90 keyboard?" I mean corsair k70 and ducky are both use cherry MX and i notice that corsair use better material and feature. but is it worth x2 price?

Hi! I don't really like my Razer Blackwidow chroma and i'm looking for a new keyboard. I wan't the keyboard to either be a 60% with arrow keys or 80% (tkl), red or rgb leds, Cherry mx blues, metal build and "floating" keycaps (like corsair keycaps are). Any recommendations? Thanks in advanced!

So, I'm planning on building a computer as soon as I have the money saved up, and one thing I'm going to need in the future is a nice new keyboard. The thing is, over the past 4-5 years I've been using laptops as my primary computers, and I've really come to like the low profile, flat keys. I like the feel of a faster travel time and the way my fingers glide across the keys. Every high profile/mechanical keyboard I've tried out since feels awkward, imprecise, and sluggish to me. The last thing is that I hate the "clicky" sound most mechanical keyboards have. I don't like my typing to be very audible since I use a professional condenser mic for not only recording, but sometimes streaming, and also voip through discord, where the sound of most mechanical keyswitches would get picked up easily. That said, I do still want a mechanical keyboard. I like the low latency and tactile feel and ghosting really is a problem with the standard membrane keyboards built into the laptops I've been using. I also have come to like playing around with the RGB lighting on my mouse and having that option for my keyboard would make my setup be pretty snazzy. So, as the title says, I'd like to know what my options are for low profile, quiet, RGB backlit mechanical keyboards. I've had a lot of trouble finding any on my own and I was hoping you folks would likely be more familiar with this subject than myself. PS: Quick question, how well would the SteelSeries 64470 Apex 350 Gaming Keyboard fit my needs? I really like the aesthetics of it, and I love the SteelSeries engine and the quality of their products.
-
Let me preface this by saying, I'm using this keyboard as a replacement for my Corsair K95 because that board did not fit my "aesthetic". Is it a bad decision? Maybe, maybe not. I don't care for RGB too much, I was not a fan of the black color and it was simply massive. Instead I sold it, purchased some smart home outlets and the K550 Yama. The Yama is almost identical to a Corsair board but has that lovely Apple industrial coloring scheme going on. Other than the design (albeit imitated), the price is quite appealing, going anywhere from $64.50 to $78.90 through their Amazon store. TL;DR It's a great board, not only great for the price but great in general. The OUTEMU PURPLE switches are, in my opinion, the best switches out there(It's a heavy red with the bump of a blue but without the click). It's built like a tank, has 12 macro buttons in an odd position, gross wrist rest, media keys and a (somewhat cheap feeling) scroll wheel for volume. In addition, it has extremely vibrant RGB lighting but lacks a variety with modes(You can make custom profiles though). It's got some ABS key caps, which suck the big one, a nice cable, pleasing aesthetics and is the best choice whether you're an experienced mech typist or a newbie. With the basic introduction out of the way, let's move into the keyboard, section by section. WHAT COMES IN THE BOX It's a cheap box that is probably less than a sheet of paper, a key puller, a wrist rest that is glossy plastic with a honeycomb texture(Makes me feel like an oily pig, hate it), magnetic pins to hold the rest in and a poorly translated manual http://prntscr.com/ezx4w5 http://prntscr.com/ezx67c BUILD This keyboard is built like a tank and could probably be used as a weapon if you're in a sticky situation. The top plate is made of aluminum with a brushed finish that accents the white plastic used elsewhere on the board. The underside of the board is constructed of a durable, white, plastic and not much else, what did you expect? Oh, what you expected were feet on the bottom? Unfortunately for you the feet raise the board nearly less than an inch, with no rubber on them to prevent slips, meaning you will hardly know they're there... Oddly enough, I thought my biggest issue would be the USB cable but it is stupid durable. The rubber on the USB cable coming out of the board (before the termination into 2 USB heads) has the diameter of a toddlers thumb (which is wide) and its point of termination is a large, solid brick of rubber. The USB cables attached to the heads are the same as any standard USB cord out there, so nothing interesting to see here. http://prntscr.com/ezxd7z http://prntscr.com/ezxe9d http://prntscr.com/ezxeyd http://prntscr.com/ezxff2 KEY CAPS I'll make this short, the keycaps are ABS garbage that feel like tissue paper on your finger tips. The are laser engraved from the inside of the key so it will last forever but the light shines through the caps making the board look TERRIBLY cheap. Oh, I almost forgot, they have a disgusting "Gamer" font that's worse than Razers. TL;DR Buy some new damn caps. http://prntscr.com/f01h45 http://prntscr.com/f01hdk G-KEYS, MEDIA KEYS The macro keys are decent but they are in a TERRIBLE position. It will take me longer to press the macro button than it will to execute it myself (Unless it's extremely long). I suppose it makes longer macros simple? Perhaps they're best for shortcuts? The only time I used them, were for shortcuts in Ableton Live since the placement is so bad. They make up for the awful placement with easy, yet stupid simple programming. Press "Rec" to record your key presses, then press one of the G Keys (G1 through G12) and you're done! The manual is so poorly translated that I will now type out how you delete single macros and all of the macros. To delete a single macro, press "Rec" then press the macro key you wish to delete and you're done (All it did was overwrite the G key with a blank recording lol). If you want to delete all of them, hold the record key down for 5 seconds and you're done. The keys (Macros, media, lighting keys) themselves are all membrane, from what I can tell, and are quite firm/tactile. My least favorite part of this entire board is the volume scroll wheel. This wheel is the most unsatisfying, cheap feeling, pain inducing, piece of Chinese TRASH that I've laid eyes upon. There is this TERRIBLE wiggle room/dead zone that transitions into, loose yet defined scroll steps. Your media keys are standard, Play/Pause, Fastforward, Skip, Stop, Mute etc....Except there's a button to swap arrowkey functionality with WASD. http://prntscr.com/f01hv9 http://prntscr.com/f01img LIGHTING They've nailed the lighting. It's bright, vibrant, even, and does not look cheap. There are 7 colors to choose from (Red, Blue, Green, Pink, Yellow, White, and Cyan) BUT for some reason, it can produce all 16 million...I realized this when I saw the fade lighting effect that between colors it's displaying full RGB. You can record 3 custom presets by pressing "LR", then choosing your color for each key by pressing the key and then you press one of the preset buttons (L1 through L3) to save it. A minor issue I have is the windows lock key has to be pressed in order for you to use the presets for whatever reason. http://prntscr.com/f01jia http://prntscr.com/f01jst http://prntscr.com/f01k2v http://prntscr.com/f01kia SWITCHES, TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS This keyboard uses Outemu Purple switches that have Cherry MX stems. These purple switches might be some of the best typing switches out there (IN MY OPINION) because of their brown like feel. Purple switches are a cross between your MX Red and blue. In short, these are heavy MX Red's with an MX Blue bump but lack that Blue click. Using a set of weights, in grams, the keys actuate at 55ish-60ish grams. This board has full N-Key Rollover/Anti-Ghosting so it will be fine for any application. http://prntscr.com/f01lzi IN BRIEF This is a very solid, and (imo) attractive board with an even more attractive price. Things I like, The OUTEMU PURPLE switches, The vibrancy of the lighting, The media keys, The addition of G-Keys, The stiffness of the membrane keys for the media functions, G-Keys etc. The layout, it's standard, yay The cable The tank-like construction Things I do not like are, The limited lighting effect options, The SHIT keycaps, The fact that my G-Keys, media keys etc. are membrane The SHIT volume scroll wheel, The lack of customization for macros, The terrible keyboard feet The plasticky wrist rest

I was looking for a Budget keyboard to match my new rig, and I came across this mechanical keyboard with Genuine Cherry MX Blue switches for $30!!! And it is a full size 104 key keyboard. It is called TVS-E Bharat Gold. At first I thought this might be just some stupid marketing thing and they may be some cheap chinese knockoffs, but they are not. Here are the links to some reviews I found online, and in geekhack's images, you can clearly see the branding of cherry. https://sahilsatishkumar.com/2014/12/25/tvs-e-gold-bharat-mechanical-keyboard-ps2-first-impressions/ https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=48838.0 And about reliability of the brand, people here in India have been using this keyboard for YEARS in offices without realizing. Turns out the accountant in my Dad's office uses one since the past 8-9 years, without any problems. I do not know about the availibility outside India, but here you can find the PS/2 varient for Rs. 1900 ($30) and USB Varient for Rs. 2100 ($33) Would like to know what are your opinions on this.

So I used to play the saxophone and when I was, I had a lubricant for my keys from a brand called Hetman. It is a labeled as a synthetic Lubricant 17 Key oil. Of the three viscosities, this is in the middle (Medium Key). On the website its product number is H17-MK-22. I was curious if this would work for a keyboard lubricant as I have a cherry mx brown keyboard. I have no clue what type of lubricant it is, and all it says on the website that I could see was that it was "nontoxic, long-lasting, non-gumming, and plastics-safe." So then my question is, is will this lubricant be okay to use on my keyboard? Thanks in advance!

Hey there, I am planning to give my mum a 'proper' keyboard for her daily work, preferably a mechanical ones. She usually works on making reports, numbers, and replying email is her daily to-dos. I am thinking of Cherry MX switches, mainly Red or Brown, but I can't find the best one in the market. Is there any keyboard that matches the needs? And also, it should be portable too, cause she travels A LOT. Your opinions and recommendations are really appreciated!

Hey there! I was looking for a new keyboard, obviously a mechanical one ;D, and ran into the K-series of Corsair. I need to admit that I like the way the keys aren't embedded in the frame but rather "standalone". But on the other hand Corsairs keyboards are damn expensive, so do you know any other good mechanical keyboards with such a look? And have you made any experience with them (good or bad)? Also I would prefer red switches because I am not a big write but more a gamer. Note: Also the Asus ROG Claymore would be a dream...but not more than dream (I mean how can they charge 250€ for just a keyboard???)

Hello there, so, after more than 3 years using some old Microsoft Keyboard i bought for way too little, I decided to get a new one. But after looking through all the Mechanical Keyboard market and what it has to offter, I am pretty overwhelmed. I was thinking about the Logitech Prodigy Keyboard, but then I realised, that it is not a Mechanical one. Is it still worth it to get for me, as I am really not sure if it is needed for me to get a Mechanical Keyboard. If I would get one, I either would go for Cherry MX Browns or Reds, as i do not like the clicky sound. Also I am used to an Armwrest so I would like to keep that (kinda like the one that the Prodigy Keyboard has, but I am not that finicky). And thats I all ask for. Are there good recommendations from you guys for a newbie regarding these Keyboards for an affordable price (I would like to stay under 100€ but it is not set in stone). I will use it mostly for gaming and programming. Thank you Edit: Living in Germany, if thats a deal regarding shipping.

Each day i spend upwards of 6 hours gaming. From where i come from everybody's mentality is: mouses and keyboards should be cheap and simple. Now, since i'm going to build a beast $800 gaming machine, do i go through the hassle with my parents and buy a mechanical keyboard and mouse or is it really not that important or necessary? Thanks in advance

Since /r/MechanicalKeyboards seems to be dead or something, I might as well post here as most of the people here own a mechanical keyboard with their setup. My old mechanical keyboard died on me recently for god knows what reason. It was a knockoff called GooBangDoo BoPower KB1, wasn't that great, the blue switches were the loudest I have ever heard of on earth. I paid 30 GBP for it. I'm looking for a mechanical keyboard for a max price or 100 EUROs (90 GBP). (Please don't use American prices or anything as everything in Europe is more expensive, thank you). I would prefer using Cherry MX switches, ones not too loud. (Browns or Reds or Silents). I don't care that much about RGB, it would be a nice thing to have at this price range. Don't mind about the brand as long as it's good and ships to Ireland with either free shipping or affordable shipping. I have been looking at the following keyboards and don't know which one to go for, or if none of these at all and buy some other one that you guys recommend. 1. https://shop.fnatic.com/products/rush-pro-gaming-keyboard-silent-red-mx-cherry-switches 2. http://www.cmstore.eu/peripheral/cooler-master-masterkeys-s-pbt-ansi/ 3. http://www.corsair.com/en-eu/k63-compact-mechanical-gaming-keyboard-cherry-mx-red-eu 4. http://www.corsair.com/en-eu/vengeance-k65-compact-mechanical-gaming-keyboard 5. https://www.razerzone.com/eu-en/gaming-keyboards-keypads/razer-blackwidow-x-tournament-edition 6. http://www.corsair.com/en-eu/k68-mechanical-gaming-keyboard-red-led-cherry-mx-red-br Thank you for taking the time to read

Hello guys , so recenty i bought my first mechanical keyboard its a cheap board but i love it so far. Its the Drevo Gramr 84 , however i hate the font , and i want to replace at least the alpharethmetic keys and the arrow keys, here where i live i dont have many options for keycaps so the set below is pretty much the only i can select for now at least ( except if i wait a lot for shipping and i order the correct keycap set from another country ). So from some reviews it seems like the Drevo Gramr 84 has an OEM keycap profile , the set im thinking of buying doesnt specify the keycap profile , but in the reviews of that set someone pointed out that these keycaps are a DCS profile. As im really new to these things , will the DCS keycaps work perfectly on a board desinged with stock OEM keycaps? ( i mean will the incline change? will the new keycaps bottom out perfectly or will the different incline destroy the typing experience? keyboard amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/DREVO-84-Key-Mechanical-Keyboard-Backlit/dp/B01K4GNLMS/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1506018594&sr=8-5&keywords=drevo+gramr+84+key keycaps amazon link:https://www.amazon.com/Bossi-keycaps-Double-shot-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B01IBM8YZ6 Thanks in advance
