Im currently building the ultimate LGA 775 PC, but after quite a bit of research I ask myself (and LTT forums) do any 4GB, 1066MHz DDR2 RAM sticks exist? I have been looking for almost an hour on ebay and other sites and i cant seem to find anything other than ultra inflated prices for 667 MHz RAM combos I guess to try to lure potential noob ddr3/ddr4 users to buy these for "cheaper", but no luck finding a single 4GB 1066MHz DDR2 stick. Also no luck looking at websites for info, so I think I need help from some of you LGA 775 gurus. Thanks in advance

I'm trying to use the BSEL tape mod for the LGA775 socket to overclock my Core 2 Duo E8500 (more info on that mod here). Since its rated FSB is 1333 MHz, the thread in the tutorials section of the forums didn't give me all the info i needed, so I did some digging around. I found this thread that specified the E8500, but when I tried this, my system wouldn't post - it would just make two beeps, indicating that it couldn't detect any memory modules (ram was installed though, and this was not a problem when I took the tape off). I then found this guide, and since the bus speed of the E8500 is 333MHz, I went for covering the pads marked in the second picture: Once again though, my system wouldn't post, making the same two-beep memory error it did last time. At this point I was just trying to see if anything worked, and I noticed that the system only made this error when I covered BSEL1. I could cover BSEL2 and the system would post and run just fine, but the CPU wouldn't actually run at a higher clock speed (I'm using CPU-Z to check). I'm wondering what's going on and why this mod isn't working. I could understand if the problem was instability, but not even posting makes me confused. I'm wondering if maybe the problem is my motherboard, a Foxconn G33M02 that came with the Dell Inspiron 530, but that's just a wild guess because I have no idea what else it could be. Does anyone know what I could do to get it working / what pads I need to cover up?

Hey Guys, So inspired by scrapyard wars i planned on building a pc for gaming with used parts. i am so far successful i would say. i spent so far around 50$ and got a gigabyte G41m motherboard which has ddr3 ram slots and the core 2 duo e8400.. install my old ram which i had and a old gt710.. i still have money that i can spend .. around 100$ running on a old crt moniter which is a 720p resolution.. will be getting a 1080p moniter down the line.. how can i improve my setup .. better quad core than q6600? better graphics card for 1080p gaming...

Hey guys, just got my hands on this old server with dual 5110s @1.6 and I see some of the quad core X54xx and similar are running around 3.0 with twice as many cores. Just wondering which, if any of the quad core Xeons on the LGA771 socket would work.

I have an old spare system that runs on a Dual Core E5700 overclocked to 4.0 GHz on stock cooler, on a Biostar G41D3B motherboard. My friend has a spare Xeon E5430 cpu which I want to borrow from him. So my question is if i try to run this Xeon E5430 which is an LGA 771 cpu on my LGA 775 motherboard, will it work? I am willing to add Xeon Microcode to my motherboard BIOS. And for the record my BIOS is updated to the latest. Also how much overclock can I expect it to go if I use only stock cooler that came with my Dual core E5700 ?

My brother is turning 15 next month. So me ND my parents decided to surprise him by upgrading his system. Our total budget is $600. It shouldn't go beyond $600...as my dad is already doing overtime....we live in Dallas, tx.. Here are his current system specs... Core 2 duo 8400 6gb ram Gigabyte g41m combo motherboard Western digital blue 500gb Antec case and PSU.. GTX 750ti. I am planning to buy a new GTX 1080.....I guess it'll be a major upgrade to that 750ti...

Hello Community! I know my pc has a trash motherboard. I know it has a trash CPU. Just don't comment on that, I made a mistake. The issue is, I had a Pentium E5300 that came with my motherboard when I got it used on EBay (HP Pegatron IPIEL-LA3), and it was terrible and not capable of anything. It however, was working with 7 gigabytes (1gb 1066mhz ddr3, 1gb 1066mhz ddr3, 4gb 1600mhz ddr3, 1gb 1066mhz ddr3), and my new processor (Intel Core 2 Quad q9300) cannot take my 4gb stick. I cannot game with 4gb (I had an extra 1gb stick that was exactly the same as the others), as my ram was filling up to fast and causing freezing in game. Why is my 4gb stick not working? I seriously think it is ridiculous that I cannot upgrade my PC without another downgrade. This has happened a few times with other parts in this pc.

I have Gigabyte GA-945PL-S3 rev-1 motherboard with Pentium 4 Prescott CPU lying around. And i want to know if i could use Xeon X5450 (or similar spec) CPU with it. Motherboard have Award BIOS and microcode adding is explained in this article https://www.delidded.com/how-to-update-cpu-microcode-in-award-or-phoenix-bios/ Maybe someone is tried these type of mods themselves and could share experience (and someone can tell if this motherboard will support this)? Is this mod worth it?

Basically, this build will be fr my wife. Her laptop died last week. So she has been using my main rig fr replying to her mails. Here's what i m planning fr her.. I hv a core2duo e8500 laying around. Also, I hv purchased a cheapo lga775 mobo from a guy, whom I purchased my 980ti from. This exact mobo https://www.lapcare.com/product/lapcare-945gc-chipset-motherboard-socket-775-lpm945/ Also, I have 2gb ddr3 laying around. I'll use the HDD from her laptop. I can reuse my old case. Basically I have purchased all these parts with a grand total of $30. This will be a temporary build as I'll be buying her new laptop next month on her birthday. Here's one issue that I'm facing. Everything is booting and running fine. But the screen resolution it broken. 1024x768 on 1440p monitor.... everything kinda feels pretty big.. Currently I HV only one GPU laying around(980ti)...but that's fr some other build...also my PSU won't support it. So suggest me something to fix that screen resolution issue without insisting me to buy a new GPU.

Hello! I just bought (somehow) a brand-new RX 560D (Rebranded 460) during the past few weeks. This is good, and it is definitely better than what I was playing on before, but I have an issue. I, being pretty new with building PCs, thought that my computer was having a hard time because of my graphics card, but I think I was wrong, although the graphics definitely where terrible. I have been living the past five months gaming with my dads old GTX 460, and a motherboard and stuff I got for an amazing deal. The GTX 460 was freaking slow, and definitely needed an upgrade. The processor I was using came with my motherboard and RAM. I got my motherboard, 8 GB DDR3 RAM, and a Pentium E5300, for only $25.00 USD. Online, I saw that the RX 560D (RX 460) could game in most games with outstanding performance, and it was perfect for me, so I bought it. The performance is better, but definitely not tip-top, and I think it is the CPU. Dual core, 2.6ghz, it is not so beastly. The question I am asking here is, would it be better to keep what I have, or with the little bit of money I have (about $20.00) try to get a Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4ghz? I tried to get a 3ghz Xeon to mod to LGA775, but it did not work. I just need to know my best option, and I am still new at this.

I know lga775 is an old socket. BUT gramps might have something to show for himself. Soooo... Come up with the best lga 775 rig you can think of. Might be a budget one or perhaps a "high end" one. Your choice.

Hello Guys, I am not really that good with computers but here is the scenario, I have a PC with a Core 2 Duo E8400 (65W TDP), and soon plan to upgrade it to a Core 2 Quad Q9450 (95W TDP). At the moment, I have an AVC cooler that came prebuilt with the pc, that with the help of speedfan, can spin at 4200RPM and keep my E8400 at 39/40 degrees during full load. Can you guys predict what my temperature would be if I were to use the Core 2 Quad at full blast, or if this is problematic, suggest a cooler that will fit BUT my motherboard has a backplate that I honestly cannot remove, so any LGA775 cooler that can be screwed into my existing adhesive backplate. Thanks for all the help, and ask questions as you may Also, I have 4 case fans and am using the CiT F3 case.

Hey everyone, I've found myself in quite a conundrum with attempting to retrofit an old Xeon x5450 processor to a Dell G33M02 MB with a LGA775 socket. Now you may be aware that the Xeon uses a LGA771. That's okay because it's adapted to LGA775. So theoretically it should work. But is doesn't. That would likely be because even though I have a compatible Chipset (G33), my motherboard does not seem to support a TDP above 65W. Therefore, I went searching for a new motherboard that will support this modded Xeon CPU. And I came across this Gigabyte Motherboard. According to this , the motherboard should support CPU's up to 136W TDP, up to 4 cores, and uses DDR2, which is what I already have available. So I'm good right? Will this Motherboard work for this Xeon? If not, do you know of any LGA775 boards that may? And if still no, will it support a Core 2 Quad Q9500? I just so happen to have one of those laying around for this project. Thanks in advance!

Hi. I have an old Dell Dimension 5520 from 2006 that the family hardly uses anymore. I am thinking of scavenging some bits of hardware to install into a prospective HTPC. Wanted some opinions on the build plan before I make further decisions. The parts I will be reusing are: - CPU: Core 2 Duo E6300 (1.86 GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, FSB 1066 MHz) - Storage: 320 GB 7200 rpm OEM - PSU: OEM 300W - Optical Drive: 16x DVD-RW Drive OEM These seem to be functioning well with my last check. I intend to purchase the following components: - Case: MITX MX500 - M/B: Intel BLKDH61AG Thin Mini ITX Motherboard DH61AG (https://www.amazon.com/Intel-BLKDH61AG-Thin-Motherboard-DH61AG/dp/B00G9EXYLS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1473659163&sr=8-1&keywords=mini+itx+lga+775) - RAM: 2x 1GB Ramaxel 667 MHz DDR2 - Graphics: NVidia Geforce GT 730 2GB Do note that the RAM and motherboard above no longer have a valid warranty card. I hope to keep the budget below SGD 300, or about USD 220. The main intent is to replace the cable TV box with a monthly fee and help transition my parents to subscription apps on a HTPC. Secondarily, it would be another opportunity in learning to build a PC. This build would allow for basic gaming as well as some quick Word processing. This leads to several questions: - Should I even consider this build? Or would you recommend that I purchase current Celeron- or Atom-based HTPCs such as the NUC and Chromboxes that may be a little cheaper? Or is it enough to just get a Chromecast? - If I ultimately decide to go ahead with the build, is an extra expenditure of SGD 100 or so for an SSD recommended for those needs? Or should I save that money and purchase a CPU fan and peripherals? It seems that people here are rather helpful, so I have again decided to seek your opinions. Mark

Hey guys, really new here and signed up because I really need a bit of help on this! I'm currently working on a small project and doing a scrapyard wars thingy with some friends. We live in a country where pc tech is kinda behind with the rest of the world, so lets just say I got really lucky getting my parts for a cheap build (Which seems i'll have to use as my main pc since my own build died but that's another story). The sad part is that the cpu is heating waaaaay too much and i've tried everything! Replacing heatsink on fans, new thermal paste, more fans on the case, staying in a cold room... I keep getting temps on 80-90ºc idle! I've tested the cpu on other boards and it's not giving me that issue at all. I'm stuck with stock fans because in my country, lga775 aftermarket fans are impossible to get. Core 2 Quad Q8300 @ 2.50 GHz ASrock G31M-VS2 Motherboard with stock, v1.00 bios. Seagate 500gb Hard Drive DDR2 4gb @ 332.4 MHz Nvidia gtx 750ti ITEK 550w power supply. Windows 7 professional 64 bit Honestly I got my giblets in a vice here because all I have to replace it is a Dual-Core E5400, which might just make me lose this one (I'm kinda new into this whole thing, so i'll assume it's a worse cpu). Please help! And thank you.

I need some help choosing what to do... I have two oldish machines, First is: Core2 Duo E8400 (6M Cache, 3.00 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB) 8GB DDR2 Kingston HyperX RAM GIGABYTE GA-EP43C-DS3 Motherboard Second is: Celeron G1620 (2M Cache, 2.70 Ghz, (cant find FSB for it)) 8GB DDR3 Kingston RAM ASRock H61M-DGS Motherboard Parts for either machine: XFX AMD Radeon HD 7870 Core Edition 1GHz 2GB 250GB Samsung 850EVO SSD 650W PSU Extra money of around £70-80 ($100ish) The problem I'm having is deciding which machine should I build into a low end gaming machine, I don't intend on playing the latest and greatest games. So far the combination I thought of was to use the ASRock, DDR3, HD7870 and see if I can find a cheap i7 or i5 online somewhere. Any help would be great

Hi so today on craigslist i got a free computer and when i brought it home and opened the side panel i was surprised to see a high end p45 LGA 775 motherboard, high end radeon GPU of its time, high tier PSU, good CPU cooler, and 4gb of high speed DDR2 memory. so now the only thing missing is the HDD which i have plenty of. so my question now is should i buy a cheap X5460 Xeon and do the Xeon mod on this board? ive done the mod once and it worked this is a high end board so i should be able to get really high overclocks with the xeon cpu. plus the whole point of this is so i can sell the PC back at a higher profit like maybe $200 or $300. the only thing i have to pay for is the Xeon cpu. i already have the mod stickers so should i do the mod?

My brother is going to be retiring his old computer soon. I'm planning on refurbishing his pc by doing a fresh install of the bios, along with upgrading his RAM and a cheap ssd Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 XFX Nforce 750i sli motherboard Evga gtx 250 1. I cant figure out if this motherboard will support 2x4gb sticks of ram - the user manual says the motherboard itself supports upto 8gb of total ram but does not specify how much each slot supports. 2. i also remember reading a long time ago that these old nforce chipset motherboards had a hard time running stable with 4 ram sticks installed - does anyone know if this is true? 3. What is more likely to run? 4x2gb sticks or 2x4gb sticks?

Hi, as the title already mentions, I have a PCIe bandwith issue with an old LGA 775 motherboard I currently use cause it's the only system I can really use at the moment. The motherboard is an Asus P5KPL/1600 and has two PCIe slots, one 16x and one 4x according to Asus's website : https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5KPL1600/. Two days ago, I tried fixing a Sapphire Radeon R7 250 which gives me black screens every now and then on a few different systems even if she's not under load. To make that possible, I tried plugging it in the second PCIe slot, which starved my 9500GS at 1x speed and 4x for the R7. Weird IMHO. It wasn't scary at first but then I saw Bus Interface usage peaking at a 100% in GPU-Z AND intermittent stuttering even when watching a YouTube video with the 9500GS I normally use in 16x. After trying to fix the R7 card, without success, I decided to plug only my 9500GS back in and use this PC as I did before that, but unfortunately, my first PCIe slot is still running at 1x speed. Here's what I tried : - Clear CMOS - Cleaning the whole system and reseatting the GPU - Fiddling around in the BIOS - Updating the BIOS to the latest version, was running 0507 and updated to 0512. - Loading default values and reconfiguring it as it was. I hope someone can help me with that, that could save me a lot of headache and waste of time

Hi so i just recently built a fuck around system using spare parts, CPU: q9300 OC 3.0ghz Motherboard: Asus p5ke RAM: 8GB DDR2 800mhz GPU: nvidia quadro fx 3800 PSU: rosewell green 430w Storage: 250GB Seagate Barracuda HDD OS: Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit Case: Thermaltake soprano RS Cooler: Thermalright venomus x the total cost of this build was essentially free since i found some of the parts in my school's edump and the other parts i had lying around at home. when i try to play games like minecraft the cpu sometimes bottlenecks the GPU and my question is would spending roughly $25 on a old xeon x5460 and the adapter be worth it for this build? i heard and read around that the Xeon X5460 is a faster cpu than the q9300 and that it can overclock much higher than the q9300. i know that i would have to risk damaging my motherboard or bricking my motherboard if i do this incorrectly but still the system is essentially free and its only $25. so my question is is it worth it. i mean it would make a good spare system to have sitting in the closet as a backup system. Im also aware that I would have to make a custom BIOS to support the Xeon but i dont really mind taking risks right now since everything was essentially free except for the cpu and adapter that i have to buy if I were to do this.
