Hi everyone, I have some confusion about Devil's Canyon. I know for sure that 4790K is Devil's Canyon instead of Haswell, but what about 4790? I have that processor and I can't find anywhere online this information. Thanks in advance!

So I was about to pull the trigger last night on the devil's canyon cpu with one of the gigabyte mobos that I saw was on sale, then I decided to wait until today too see if newegg put up any new sales pertinent to my tastes. Well, you can probably imagine my surprise when I woke up and saw that an entire new generation had been announced the next morning. This leads me to my question: I want to get a new mobo and cpu soon to upgrade from my terrible asrock and i3, and I also want the best thing I can get, so I was wondering which would be better, the haswell 4970K devils canyon, or the new whatever K skylake gpu. I really don't want to have to get rid of my ram and spend more money on more ram, but if the performance is worth it then I will do it. If I get the 6th gen cpu, I would have to upgrade to ddr4 or ddr3l, but regardless I would have to upgrade something I wasn't really counting on. I guess what I am asking is which is better for an upgrade right now, while keeping money in mind: the new one or the not so old one? I have a 7870 ghz edition that I don't care to update yet, its being bottlenecked as it is so I want to upgrade that after this. Please help I REALLY don't want to spend more than $500 Also will the Devil's canyon be cheaper once skylake is available for purchase?

I have a new desktop that I finished building last Friday, and it works like a charm. I followed my advice from another thread to get an Intel Pentium g3258, but I bought an MSI Z97M-G43 mobo, a GeForce GT 740, and 8GB Kingston HyperX 1866MHz DDR3. It may become obvious to someone technically inclined that this is not right, and that the g3258 would cause a bottleneck. I can confirm that, because the CPU often causes freezes for a few seconds, without causing any of the other parts to break a sweat. I started to overclock it to 4.0GHz last night, but overclocking scares me and the computer still freezes.. Since I already have the computer and nothing is limiting my or budget (my budget increases with time, because of my job, of course) what would you guys recommend would be able to match my motherboard and graphics card? Its primary purpose is game development / gaming, and its secondary purpose is heavy internet browsing / media. Again, the specs: Intel Pentium g3258 MSI Z97M-G43 NVIDIA + EVGA GeForce GT 740 8GB 1866MHz DDR3 RAM Thanks in advance!

Title says it all, looking for some opinions on a build I'm going to be doing for college. I'm an experienced system builder, the main thing I'm looking for are some opinions on the component configuration and the best chassis for housing aforementioned components. Components CPU: 1. I7 4790K ($249) (Hyper-Threading) 2. I5 4690K ($199) (No Hyper-Threading) MB: 1. MSI Z97i ACK ITX Board (Prefer the layout of this board) 2. ASUS Maximus VII Impact (Feature rich, but I don't particularly care for the SATA layout) RAM: 1. Corsair Vengenace Pro 16GB @ 1866 MHz CAS 9 GPU: 1. Non-Reference Cooler Design: ASUS STRIX GTX 970 2. Reference Cooler: EVGA SC GTX 970 (Final Choice is Dependent Upon Chassis) SSD: 1. Samsung 850 EVO 250GB (Open to suggestions on this one though, since these SSDs have a reputation for rapidly deteriorating NAND) HDD: 1.WD Black 1 or 2TB PSU: 1. Corsair RM650 2. Silverstone SFX 600W (If necessary for chassis) Chassis: 1. Corsair 380T w/ Corsair H100i GTX (Good airflow, portable, and spacious, but fairly wide and also a bit flashy and/or plastic-y, for my taste. See also, Does anyone know if the BitFenix Spectre Pro 200mm Fan will fit in the front of this case? Its got that weird mounting design and I'm not sure if it would mount in a non-BitFenix case.) 2. NCASE N1 (Compact, gorgeous finish, the side fan mount would give me peace of mind with the airflow inside the case; probably wouldn't watercool with this one since it's as small as it is.) 3. CaseLabs Mercury S3 w/ Swiftech H240x or Corsair H110i GT and, eventually, a waterblock and radiator to throw the GPU into a loop. At that point though, I might as well just go all out for a custom loop. (Caselabs, nuff said. Super versatile, but super expensive. If space and overall price weren't a consideration, this would be a no-brainer. I'm just not sure I'm prepared to fork over $300 for an ITX case currently.) I'm trying to keep this under $1500 (I can get the hardware for somewhere between $1100-1200, depending on CPU), but that's more a personal preference because even though I have plenty of work lined up for the summer, the job market on my campus is absolute trash right now, so my income has become decidedly less disposable. Obviously the CaseLabs build would cost significantly more, but if cost-to-benefit appeared to be good enough I'd certainly be willing to throw more at this project. This rig would mostly be used for playing games, movies, music, CAD software (Pro-E, or whatever they're calling it now, and SolidWorks), and some Adobe applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, though Dreamweaver is, by far, the one I've using most often recently).

Hey, So I have a LGA 1150 mother board and I have an old CPU but I would like to use it. It's the Intel i7 870. Apparently the CPU is LGA 1156 and it was wondering if the LGA 1156 CPU would work in the LGA 1150 motherboard? Hopefully that makes sense and thanks as well

It's my first time building a gaming PC and I was wondering which Motherboard I should get to support the following parts: Intel Core i5 4690k, MSI AMD R9 280x, Kingston Hyper Fury X 8GB (2x4GB), Samsung 2.5" 120GB 850 evo ssd, western digital caviar blue 1TB HDD, Samsung 24x retail SATA DVD writer, Corsair air series Af120 led 120mm fan (x2),TP-LINK TL-WDN3800 N600 Wireless Dual Band PCI Express Adapter , and the case I'm using is the Corsair CC-9011058-WW Carbide Series SPEC-03 Windowed Mid Tower ATX case! If you have any recommendations on different parts I should use please do tell me! (I have not decided what PSU to use yet)

I have a i5-4690k Looking for a motherboard for ~$70, Needs to have overclocking and preferably dual sli. I know $70 is cheap so used is welcomed, anyone have any ideas/links or selling one of your own? Thanks!

This was a big surprise because it's a manufacturer I generally like: Asrock. Well after a few months it died abruptley without any warnings. No signs of any malfunction. It was solid and stable. I removed everything from the board and tried different power supplies to get some kind of response but there was nothing. I'd like a suggestion for a more solid and stable tried and tested board for a CAD workstation. Here's the current list of components: CPU: i7-4790K GPU: PNY Quadro K4200 RAM: Ripjaws Z Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) SSD: Intel 530 240GB x 2 PSU: Corsair HX650 ATX12V v2.2 Budget is about 200 USD. I'd really appreciate any suggestions or advice because this is for a friend and I feel like I might have made a bad choice on the previous board. I'd like to make up for it this time. Thanks in advance!

I'm planning to dual boot windows and osx yosemite on my newly built rig (already have windows on it), I've been using unibeast and I'm not stuck on the boot loader trying to get to the actual mac osx installer, and I've tried every possible boot parameters, and to no avail whenever I try something (without verbose) it just flashes a gray screen with an apple logo in the centre for a split second then goes black and then the system reboots I've tried almost every possible combination of boot flags, and I switch from the gpu to the integrated graphics, but it still gives no results :L I've got an msi z97 lga 1150 board, an i5 4690k with an msi gtx 970,and I heard that yosemite had support for the new maxwell cards, so I picked a 970. I've got 2x8gb 1600mhz ram. I'm trying to install it to a 512gb crucial mx100 ssd which has been split into two, half of it was allocated to windows and the other is unallocated. then I have 2 wd blues 1tb each, one has windows stuff on it already and the other one is unallocated planning to put mac stuff there. (all the specs are in my siggy) If anyone has this config and has successfully got into osx with it, pls help

Hello I was looking for new build with mini itx form factor, for now i will not buy any graphics card cause I'm saving up for Nvidia to release their GPU next year.my CPU is intel i5 4460 3.2Ghz and which motherboard will be future proof for next year GPU, is it safe to buy H81 chipset with more less price than newer chipset, I found MSI H81i for $80 but it only support up to DDR3-1600 RAM, there's another ,ASRock Z87E-ITX around $150 and its support higher freq RAM if there's no point getting newer motherboard then I will go with the lowest price Thanks

I am wanting to upgrade my processor to an Intel with LGA 1550 or LGA 1155 socket. I was wondering what is the best Intel I7 or I5 I can get for Heavy Editing and Live streaming, and Gaming? I am looking to keep it under $350 Also, I would like to know a motherboard that would go great with that. I would like to keep the motherboard under $150, it doesn't have to be great, I only need one graphics card slot at the moment with my 780TI. Thanks for the help in advance! I would like to keep the whole build here under $500. The processor doesn't need to be overkill, but I want it future proof. Thanks again! Hey guys, I have been trying to find a good motherboard for overclocking and running in SLI. It has to be LGA 1155, Have support for 32gb of ram (4 memory slots) and be in the 150 dollar price range. I have been looking at the ASRock Z77 Extreme4 but it gets so many mixed reviews. Anyways, thanks in advanced for advice, oh and also, before anyone asks, I already have the CPU (I am upgrading) I just need a good motherboard...

**edited to include pictures for parts rather than boring text I will apologize for the length from the start. I have been slowly accumulating the parts for this build since February. I have been biding my time and patiently waiting for nearly every part I have to have gone on sale before purchasing. This is the build I have had my heart set on and is mostly unchanged from the 3 days of "modify/sleep on it/ repeat" I did back in Feb. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3LC7p So I started hearing these rumors of Devils Canyon and held off on the 4770k when Microcenter dropped to 249.99 and now I'm glad I did. Some Z97 boards are out and all the talk is the 4790k will be out June 2nd. I was thinking I would also grab the new VII Formula motherboard, but I have been looking at the VII Hero and ... well I don't know. Do I really need the Forumla? I love the look and the extra plating is pretty awesome. I will eventually go SLI but I will never use the water cooling bit. What is really the difference other than that? Audio is really important to me and best I can tell, they have the same onboard audio. I would love to have the AC wifi the formula has, but that isn't a HUGE deal, I would be okay buying a PCIe card for that if I ever find I really need to. This will be a gaming and heavy video editing for pleasure but I will also be using it for work. Data compilation and 3D interpretation and rendering and a lot of geospatial heavy programs. Heavy programs for work. I thought about going 4930k but I just can't justify the increased cost. I finally decided to spend that $200 on a 780ti versus a 780 rather than going to a 4930k from the 4770k. So here I am coming back to what I have had the hardest time with this entire build. What darn motherboard to I want need? I am not a fan boy, but I want to stick with Asus. I'm sure other people make great boards now, but it's really hard to find someone say something bad about Asus boards. I like the ROG boards for the features they provide, their audio, the bios, the look. This is what I have so far. PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3LC8U So all I have left is this: PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3NJsq So I will again apologize for my very long post, I guess what the whole thing boils down to is, "what do I give up if I go VII Hero vs VII Formula". I should also mention that I am considering just biting the bullet and picking up the rest of my list as soon the 4790k gets released. I have been very patient, but I'm done waiting. I'm sick of trying to play DayZ at 13fps, of going to smoke 2 cigarettes in the time it takes my computer to render one map, I'm sick of 30fps and "60fps" Battlefield on console. If the VII Formula won't be available within two weeks of the 4790k release... well that will have an impact on my decision as well, UNLESS the features/benefits of that MB over the VII Hero are significant enough. Ok I feel like I am rambling at this point and I don't want to annoy anyone. Thanks in advance for any help or direction you can provide. Please by all means ask me questions about any details or points of interest I have neglected to include that would be relevant to this decision.

Im trying to decide on a new cpu for my build and I cant decide on which socket type to get. I want to use it for gaming but I also want a socket type so that when I need a new cpu new versions will be out. I know its hard to futureproof a PC but im just wondering if any of you could give me some advice

So, I have a lot of questions. Firstly, I am wondering how future proof a gigabyte z97 soc force is. Secondly I would ask when we as gamers can expect 4k graphics to become common, I know things like that are pretty much up in the air, but still, a general guess from those with more knowledge than me will be appreciated. My main concern is that I just got my z97 board, and I'm just wondering how long I can expect that to keep up with the advance in games, it has a crap ton of room for expansion, and I must say looks amazing up close.(cant decide if I should wait for Devils Canyon or get something like an i3690 and then upgrade to DC. But there's a catch. I recently read about the upcoming release of ddr4 memory, And I cant help but wonder what kind of advancements games will have made by then. Not to mention broadwell, which I understand will mainly be about mobiles (so whats the point of them in a desktop?). Finally, I doubt its even worth asking about something like new quantum computing and all that jazz, but still speculation appreciated. Basically, when could we expect any of these things to be available, I just got into system building and I find myself confused about the whole damned thing. For instance, more than one pcie3.0 is seemingly common on intel motherboards (judging by newegg, but then again they are wrong a lot) and yet seemingly non existent except on amd motherboards except for 1 asus board and 1 msi board, and then, I am told that pcie2.0 is good enough for modern gaming, yet every build I see usually involves pcie3.0 boards. its just all so bloody confusing. Let the wild speculation begin!

Building my first PC and I am looking for an ATX LGA1150 motherboard, as the title says. I am looking to spend under £70 if possible and, obviously, the cheaper - the better. I know this request is quite vague and general, but any motherboard that fits the specification and you think is good, it would be awesome if you could comment with it. Perhaps, if you own it yourself and like it. All help is appreciated. Thanks.
