  1. Hi guys I'm about to build my first Gaming PC and I've got a little problem. I decided that I'm going to buy the new MSI GeForce GTX 1070 Gaming X. The PSU I'm planning to buy is an EVGA 550W G2. The PSU only has a 6+2 pin but the GPU needs a 6+8 pin. Well, that's my problem. I don't know if I need to buy another PSU with a 6+8 pin, if i can use the card with a 6+2 pin or if I can buy a connector of some kind. Hope you guys can help, i would appreciate it. TrampbullLTT
  2. Hey Guys! I recently completely a mini-itx build where the primary purpose of it was to be a pc for office-related tasks and web browsing for my mum. My father showed interest in adding in a gpu later, and since it has now been built, I'm looking for suggestions between the gtx 950 or the r7 370. Suggestions for any other card would be great too. Thanks.
  3. Just looking for some opinions on a good selling price for 2 GTX 970's with Nvidia reference coolers and EK Full CSQ waterblocks. I've sold a few parts here and there on ebay and craigslist, but nothing of this caliber. I was thinking around ~$700 total, but don't want to waste too much time listing the parts in case there value deprecates. Any selling tips or past experiences with selling PC hardware would be awesome. Thanks, TidaLWaveZ
  4. hi so i have a question. im planning on buying this board EVGA X58 FTW3 i noticed that it doesnt have any sort of onboard video. so i was wondering how would you install gpu drivers for your video card. i had my fair share of cards that would show display in the bios and splash screen but when they got to loading windows they wouldnt be able to display anything because it would have an out of range error. so i was wondering how the hell would you install graphics drivers for a gpu on this board. i noticed that this board has 3 pcie x16 slots so i was wondering if maybe you can somehow set it to display on a certain lane and have the card that you want to install drivers on not display anything then after you manage to install drivers for it you pull out the test card and change it back to display at said lanes.
  5. My current build: CPU: i5 4590 @ 3.3GHz Mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-SLI RAM: 8GB x 1 HyperX Fury DDR3-1866 GPU: XFX R9 280X Black Edition Double Dissipation 3GB DDR5 PSU: Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 800W 80+ Gold Certified Monitor: Sceptre X22HG 1680x1050 22" 2ms 60Hz LCD Monitor PCPartPicker: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/rs4p6h I got my monitor a while ago from my dad after he bought a new 24" 1920x1200 monitor (he loves 16:10), and I finally want to get my own. I want it to be 1920x1080, 144Hz, and 1ms. I've narrowed it down to two monitors, and one has AMD Freesync but I'm unfamiliar with the brand, and the other is ASUS (trusted brand), but it doesn't have Freesync (will I even use FS?) 1) AOC G2460PF Black 24" 144hz 1ms Widescreen LED Backlight Free-Sync Monitor http://pcpartpicker.com/part/aoc-monitor-g2460pf 2) ASUS VG248QE Black 24" Gaming Monitor, 144Hz 1ms (GTG), 3D Monitor http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-monitor-vg248qe At the same time, I've had my eyes on a new GPU: the R9 390. Which 390 I get depends mostly on the price and sales, but I'm leaning towards a Powercolor PCS+ 8GB R9 390 because of the three fans. I'm having frustrating artifacting issues, and while I am yet to sort out the cause, I know R9 that 280Xs are old cards by a new name. I also know that different card resellers tend to OC their products to give them the edge over competing brands' cards, causing instability and sometimes artifacting. While the reasoning behind my choices to upgrade is not important, I only have so much money to buy a monitor, or buy a GPU. My questions are: 1) Should I either upgrade my GPU or my monitor? 2) (If monitor) Why should I choose/not choose one monitor over the other? 3) (If GPU) Is getting an R9 390 worth it from an R9 280X, or would its potential by wasted on my current monitor?
  6. First of all my gpu is the EVGA GTX 970 SC ACX 2.0 ! So I would just like to know if increasing the gpu fan speed reduces the temperature of the heatsink? For example if I put my gpu fan speed from 30% to 50% while gaming, will that prevent the heatsink from heating up a lot fast? Keep in mind Im not talking about the GPU itself, but specifically the heatsink? Thank you very much! Keep being awesome )))
  7. Is it due to no optimization of drivers or anything driver related or is it due to hard slowly becoming outdated? I get a single 980 ti or Fury X can't really handle 4k right now but they did decent, but with these there getting low 30's - 29 fps. Benchmark - https://youtu.be/_AH6pU36RUg?t=6m49s
  8. Hi so i managed to sell my MSI GTX 950 to a person and now ive decided to use that money to buy myself a new monitor. My old one was the HP w19e and it had some OSD problems along with it being pretty old. my new one that i just bought is the ASUS MX239H. Now on my current system since it has no GPU i went to weird stuff and picked up an old MSI Radeon HD 4350 for $5. My plan is to now use that old card for now until the Pascal GPU's come out then ill upgrade. was that a smart move or it would've been better to keep my old GTX 950 and wait until Pascal came out? Leave your comments bellow. UPDATE: I actually have a MSI GE62 Apache 276 Gaming Laptop that i can use for gaming. its just that i used to use my desktop mainly for gaming.
  9. Hi guys, when the pascal predecessor to the titan x comes out in June that is supposed to be 10x faster than the current titan x, i am going to buy it right away... BUT, Nvidia then announced that in 2018 they would be putting a new michroarchitecter into consumer GPU's, called Volta. I was just wondering if anyone could give me a link to an article or something so that I would stop worrying about my new GPU being outdated, or improved upon ALREADY in just 2 years. I am just looking for someone to tell me that volta will only be in their high end $4000 GPU's so i can know that it is something far out of my reach OR that it will only be implemented into GPU's meant for content creation only, and not good for gaming.. http://wccftech.com/nvidia-volta-succeed-pascal-2018/
  10. I'm sure some of you might have noticed this before, but I felt like posting this anyways So if you look at the best GPU at each price point: $650-980 ti>r9 fury x $500-r9 nano or r9 fury> gtx 980 $400-r9 390x $300-r9 390>gtx 970 $250-r9 380x $200-r9 380>gtx 960 $150-gtx 950>r7 370 $100-r7 360x or gtx 750 ti If you note at EVERY price point except 400 and 250 dollars the better gpu is the one based on a cut down GPU. For example, the 980 ti is a slightly cut down gm200 GPU. It competes with the fury x, which is a fully enabled fiji GPU. The only exceptions to this are the r9 390x and r9 380x, with the only reason being they don't have an Nvidia equivalent (yet). As well at $100 this doesn't hold but that's because the two competitors are both fully enabled GPUs. I found this interesting and felt like sharing it with you guys
  11. I have no opinion on the matter, these are just the accusations made against NVIDIA. Gameworks NVIDIA's Gameworks API is a proprietary software that game developers can use to create games that can be supported by many GPUs and the SKUs of each chip. The issue with Gameworks is that it infamously makes games run like s**t on AMD graphics cards. As a result of this many high end AMD cards such as the R9 390X can be beat out by a GTX 960 in certain games. (PROJECT CARS) This game will probably be mentioned a lot in this post. PhysX PhysX is a physics program that is built directly into NVIDIA GPUs, in order for AMD users to utilize this they need to run PhysX on their CPU. Advanced PhysX also can't be run on any AMD card no matter what, NVIDIA have been accused of also preventing AMD graphics card users to use NVIDIA GPUs solely to run PhysX on their cards. PhysX is a fair use of competitive advantages as there are very effective ways to accomplish the same thing on other products. Planned Obsolescence and AMD slowdowns Supposedly NVIDIA have been finding ways to make older graphics cards run slower than Maxwell cards, mainly in a Gameworks title called Project Cars. It should be noted that the GTX 780 is being beat by the GTX 960, this should not be occuring. It should also be noted that the 290X can't even maintain 60FPS in the game, despite the 290X being in the same tier as the GTX 980 which smashes the 290X with 70 FPS using the benchmarker's configuration. It should also be noted that the AMD results are slightly less consistent in terms of minimum to average FPS. Benchmarks are credit to Techspot.com, the URL is at the bottom of the post. Overuse of Tesselation Way back in 2009, when Crysis 2 was released, the game for some reason in certain scenes used extreme tessellation on objects that either didn't require it or couldn't be seen at all, examples of this being the Jersey barriers and the water being rendered under the map. The reason this was done is that NVIDIA knew that their cards could handle tessellation better than AMD/ATI cards, so using this knowledge the overused tessellation to tank the competition's FPS. It should also be noted that this also reduced the potential FPS of NVIDIA's own cards. More recently, Gameworks game The Witcher 3 by CD PROJEKT RED was discovered to use 64X tessellation in the hair of Geralt, this made no visual difference but did however affect performance on AMD cards more adversely than NVIDIA's, as there is no reason to do this it can be assumed that NVIDIA knew that Extreme tessellation would cause a bigger FPS drop in the competition than in their own cards. Any user having issues with this on AMD's side can use the AMD Crimson program to change maximum tessellation to a more reasonable factor such as 16X. If you found the article interesting, maybe you would be interested in participating in the poll I made, I want to get everyone's opinion, I realise the post seems biased but in truth this was mainly about the shady practises of NVIDIA. AMD may not be exempt from shady business practises themselves, this post is about NVIDIA however. This post took forever to make so bear that in mind before you rip me to shreds calling me and AMD fanboy despite me owning an NVIDIA SHIELD tablet and a GTX 760. Benchmark source: http://www.techspot.com/review/1000-project-cars-benchmarks/page2.html
  12. First I'm not looking for a cheap 4K gpu. From the most recent Wan show, around 44 minutes in (44:40), Linus read a comment on Twitch chat, where someone mentioned "GTX 750s are ideal for watching Blu-Rays". This has got me wondering too, so I did some digging and found out, that person might be right. Why? Because from Nvidia's side, the bottom tier gpus, GT710-GT740 runs 4K only at 30Hz or at a lower 24Hz. Only DP can do 4K at 60Hz, but most of these cheap cards, don't carry display port. So the cheapest and ideal card is the GTX 750 because it has display port and for that, it can run 4K and 60Hz. On AMD's site, the cheapest card to run 4K is the HD7700 series, Where 4K at 60Hz on Display Port, and 30Hz on HDMI. Is 4K at 30Hz or 24Hz good enough for every day use and and watching Blu-Ray movies? 13. Hello, this is my first time posting to the forums so hi to everybody. Now, on to the questions and clarification. So a few months back I decided to buy a GTX 980. A few months afterwards, I read online about how some people ran two cards in their system. One for gaming, the other for PhysX and or GPU rendering. So this is where I have a few questions. Learning Sony Vegas 12 or 13 support the kepler GPUs, I decided to switch to Adobe Premiere Pro... my wallet is killing me at the moment. Anyways, I went into the program directory in the cuda_supported_cards.txt and added "GeForce GTX 760." I changed my video rendering and playback to the GPU Acceleration alternative. I went to render the video and I compared to the software use rendering, only to find out that the times were the same. So a few questions? Can I render with my GTX 760 on Adobe Premiere Pro? Is it possible to update my GTX 760 driver?Whenever I tried to, my GTX 980 got in the way My GTX 980 is my default card, how do I check/confirm the GTX 760 is working? Thanks for all future answers, its greatly appreciated!!
  14. Hello, I have one question. I have an ASUS Z97 MAXIMUS VII RANGER ROG, I7 4790K, ASUS STRIX OC GTX970, Corsair Vengeance pro 1866 2x8gb. I have my gtx 970 and one monitor philips 234e5 with 2 hdmi inputs and one VGA input. if i put and old gpu near my 970, someting like 8500gt, 6800gtx , 8400gs , can i use my old gpu for old games? and let gtx 970 stay? and when i want to play battlefield 4, i need to activate gtx 970? PS: I want to use the same monitor for both gpus Or to solve this, i realy have to build and ol' Pentium 4 build? thanks...
  15. This is my current configuration i3 4130 4gb RAM ASUS HD 7770 1GB I want to upgrade my gpu and maybe my RAM but i am very tight budget. Its around 200$ ( note: i don't live in US ) and i have couple options: 1 Upgrade my RAM to 8GB and pick one of these cards: -GTX 950 -R9 270x -R7 370 2 Upgrade to gtx 960 and don't upgrade my ram I am using my pc for gaming. I would like to play Assassins Creed, GTA V, FIFA 16, FARCRY 4, Dota 2, etc. I am gaming on 768p/900p resolution but mostly on 768p. Thanks in advance
  16. hi i know the 970 is newer but the 690 will be better in dx12 because the vram will stack up, and its already better performance wise. its almost as good as a 980 so i was wondering, if i could snag one for cheaper than the price of a 970 should i get it or nah? also, would this motherboard handle a dual gpu card? since its sli and this motherboard cant do sli? i wonder because its in one pcie slot, ASRock B85 Pro4 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
  17. Hey Guys Which GPU should I buy? Gigabyte Radeon R9 390 G1 Gaming/Sapphire R9 390 Nitro Tri-X OC or Gainward GeForce GTX 970 Phantom? I want to play ArmA 3 and 2, DayZ SA, GTA V, Rust, Minecraft, etc. I'm want to play at 1080p and more or less at max settings. Thanks in advance Swiss_G4mer
  18. so as the title say is possible to run a nvidia gpu to process physx and an amd gpu for the other processing task, or drivers gonna explode ? if so, how ?
  19. Right now I have a 1080p monitor, an SSD, a R7 370, and a really crap CPU. The i3-2120 is not doing it for me. In fallout 4 I get drops down to 19FPS and up to 40 sporadically. (the cores of my pc run at 90% in all my games and my GPU never goes above 60%) I know my GPU isnt the best, and I'm planning to get an upgrade to that in a few months when i start working again. I have 250$ to spend. I was thinking of getting either the FX-6300 or FX-8350, because no i5 is within my price range. The reason it isnt is because an i5-4460, the cheapest 4th gen + a decent motherboard would be 300$. Any advice? are those AMD cpu's good for today games? Im not looking for top notch performance, just something that wont bottleneck my GPU, and give a smooth playable experience. (the cores of my pc run at 90% in all my games and my GPU never goes above 60%)
  20. A few months ago I built my new gaming rig to max out 1440p games and I decided I wanted it to be a small form factor case. I went ahead and built a mITX build in a Corsair Obsidian 250D Case with 6600k and a reference 980 Ti. The CPU is cooled by a H80i GT mounted in the front with push-pull and temperatures are pretty good on it. However recently I've noticed that my GPU would get very hot at around 80-83C under heavy gaming even with a very aggressive custom fan curve. I do understand that the 980 Ti and most top-end graphics card are designed to run hot but I'd like some breathing room for overclocking it and also at the same time better acoustics since the fans have to ramp up to 70% to keep it cool and it is very noisy. I've tried every fan configurations trying different speeds of my intake fans and exhaust fans and configurations of intakes and exhaust and it was still peaking at 83C, albeit with the tweaked fans the temperature ramped up slower. Of course with that I've done some research saw that there are three main AiO mounting solutions: Kraken G10, Corsair HG10 N980 of course the EVGA Hybrid. From what I've read the G10 would have problems cooling the GPU's VRM's without custom heatsinks and I don't want to order other components as they are either super expensive to ship it here or just not available to ship here at all. So with that I have ruled the G10 out. Also recently I've seen a lot of people having issues with the Corsair HG10 N980 bracket bending their PCB and having poor contact. The EVGA seems to be the best choice right now but I've also heard people having problems with the pump making grinding noises and other noises. Should I wait for a while till Corsair comes up with an official solution for the HG10 or just go ahead and order the EVGA Hybrid and hope for the best. One extra note is that currently I have my my H80i GT for my CPU set as intake in push-pull. Going with the hybrid means that I have to mount the hybrid in the front where the H80i GT previously was and get a H100i GTX for my CPU and mount it as side intakes. I wouldn't be able to reuse my H80i GT for my GPU if I opt for the HG10 as the tubing comes out straight from the CPU block and isn't very flexible at all so it wouldn't fit at all. I was actually considering at one point actually to sell my GPU, of course trying to sell it as close to retail price as possible, and actually but a 3rd party card instead which has better cooling solutions. But the reason I got the 980 Ti card at first was that I knew my mITX build would have limited airflow so I figured an exhaust blower style GPU would be more appropriate, turns out I overestimated the cooling capabilities of the stock cooler a little.
  21. I need a graphics card for a build I'm planning in the future. So far I only have a budget of US$150 for a GPU. I don't want anything used or refurbished, therefore the GTX 760 and Radeon R7 370 fit my price point. I have looked into benchmarks and since the 760 is close to the 960 I had to estimate sisnce there was no 760 benchmarks I could find but I am sure they are there and would love if some could be linked below. Now to the point since I have these 2 GPU's on mind I want to hear your opinion or even better if they are GPU's with the pricetag of 150 dollars better than these link them below as well. -Thank You
  22. I want either a gtx 980 ti or gtx 980 matrix, the best card for 1440p into triple digits, and best performance.
  23. Do PC benchmarks produce subjective or objective results? I know this has been a topic of great debate for decades but we all have a solid understanding on sweet spot hardware or extreme hardware and what they'll allow you to do in your games.
  24. Hey all, I am looking to build a new PC very soon. I have all the parts I want decided out, except for the Graphics Card. Now, I've always went with AMD (I also still might again), but I'm considering going with Team Green this time around. With that said, I have 2 different cards I'm considering. Either the GTX 970 (Probably the G1 Gaming version) or the 780 Ti Classified K|ngp|n Edition. I just looked up couple reviews for the K|ngp|n Edition, and it looks AMAZING. It seems to be the ultimate version of the GTX 780 Ti, and it's faster then the GTX 970. However, the GTX 970 is newer. It's more power efficient, and has the new Maxwell 2.0 architecture. I looked on eBay and it seems I could pick up a 780 Ti K|ngp|n for about $350-$365, which is a tad bit more expensive than the GTX 970. It seems to me the the GTX 780 Ti K|ngp|n is the better choice, though I could be wrong. My only concern is that the K|ngp|n Edition only has 3GB of VRAM. I plan on gaming with a Triple Monitor setup (5670x1080p), but I don't know if 3GB VRAM will be enough. Suggestion would be great.
