I have all my files downloaded from the tutorial i followed to change the style of the basic ftp directory look and change it into a nice table. unfortunately the guide does not show you how to implement this into a website, nor does it work as it should. I dont know how to select the drive which i am using for my ftp server for a start, and i get an error when trying to run the .sorttable.js with error code 800A03EE . I COMPLETELY understand the risks with ftp. This is for my own education. I have sftp working and i understand completely opening up ports etc I am just wanting to see if i can change the look. I plan on hosting it off a seperate machine with firewalls etc installed. Any information about php, css or html would be MUCH appreciated. The files i have installed into my website folder are all linked in this post. thanks .index.php .sorttable.js .style.css .error.php .htaccess .index.php

Hello I have a dell edge r610 running windows server 2016 decanter. I want to use this server as a ftp server so fare everything is working but I want to have a virtual directory but that directory is on a different PC that PC has the specific folder shared so it is accessible. But as soon as I set this directory as a virtual directory in the ftp server it gives me a error saying the following: The path does not exist or environment variables in the path could not be expanded to verify whether it exists. Is there any way to have a virtual directory that is on a different PC on the same network?

Hello Every one! My family has built up huge amounts of data from, family photos, video, and music over the course of several years. As well as lots of documents that pose little to no security threat. Yes, I know I still need to keep good tight security for my network. I have ~4 TB of data to store. I would love to be able to have my family load up what ever data they want to back up onto this server from their home. I would also like to use this as my main mass storage for personal data at home I can upload over the local network or from another computer off site ( when I get more drives that will be optimal for this configuration). I am an experienced builder but lack in some basic network knowledge and have little experience with configuring a server. I plan on using the computer's CPU, MOBO,RAMM and Bootdrive, along with a spare mass storage HDD's I have now in my current main PC. Then I am going to keep, my PSU, GPU, CPU cooler, fans, case and upgrade to an I7 8700k, new AROSE Gigabyte z370 gaming 7 MOBO and some new ddr4 ramm. The old parts in my current build is going into a new case with a 4tb WD purple drive to test my server on. An AMD FX8370 CPU, a Gigabyte 970A-UD3 AM3+ socket MOBO, 16GB of G.SKILL DDR3 ram. A spare display GPU I have laying around for a monitor, a 125G SSD for the boot drive and a few misc small programs. - Will this hardware be enough for what I intend to do? Now, I am only using one 4TB drive to test out at first. I will get better drives in later on and set up a RAID Array. I plan on getting two large NAS drives (WD red or Seagate Iron Wolf? feedback - on what brand offers the better performance is appreciated) about 6-10TB in size and putting them into a RAID 1 array on the motherboard. - Now, I should be okay with a raid 1 array? I will just mirror the other drive correct? if one of the drives fails there is another one already backed up and then I simply just replace the bad drive correct? - For only having two drives at first and then plan on going to 4 total and my MOBO supports RAID 1, I won't need a RAID card necessarily right? Or will a RAID card help in the performance of the server? After Installing all the necessary hardware, getting windows and all the necessary drivers installed I plan on installing and using FileZilla server on the server it's self. And anyone els wanting to download or upload to the server will have to have the FileZilla client installed on there PC. -Am I right, this software will take care of all of my FTP and mass storage needs over a network? I know I need to port forward in my router and disable windows fire wall to allow Filezilla to talk with the outside world. I have a Netgear Night Hawk x6 ac3200Ti-Band Wifi Router that has a built in Gigabit Ethernet switch. - Will my computer and the server exchange data fairly well without hogging a lot of bandwidth on my network? Any help or insight is appreciated

Ik finally ready to setup networking right at new house and realy don't want to use WiFi if possible. I sometimes hate my self because of that Is there any real reason to use FTP CAT6 instead of UTP if network cables will run outside wall and no way near 220 power lines. Only 3-5 meters will be two network cables next to each other. With network cables I will connect 2 computers 1 tv Freenas sever In total about 40-50 meters of cable. And about Modular plugs. I'm only seen cat6 plugs for UTP cables but does it mater?

I currently run a local FTP server on a old prebuilt machine that I slapped some extra storage in. It more or less works as intended, but I can't help but feel I'm not getting enough out of it, and there are weird side effects to this - transfers sometimes go in "bursts", etc. Is FTP really a proper protocol to be using over LAN, and what would you recommend that would not bring any issues with lower powered machines (core 2 duo, windows 7 etc.) SMB interests me after seeing Linus's 10gbit networking video, but I can't seem to find a definitive answer. Windows/cross platform is a bonus. If its a big enough improvement, I'll consider switching the PC over to a light linux distro (it is also a Plex machine.) edit: Also, if it's easy to set up for my friends, whever they stay over with their rig for a few days, this is a great bonus.

I have a server I’m working on with built in gigabit Ethernet , works like normal for regular web stuff, however when ever I try to have someone externally download or upload to the server windows will only permit 10mb/s I have been hopping forum to forum tutorial to tutorial to find a solution and none have worked any suggestions would be great(note: transferring from my main pc allows full network utilization and near instantaneous transfer of even large files to several directories of smaller files) Parts list i5 2500k 12gb 1333 ddr3 asrock pro3 z75 gt710 (had it lying around so I threw it in) several ssds that I’ve tried switching to for the file transfer

Good evening. I have been wanting to build myself a storage server for quite some time now. The main functions of the server will be; - Mass storage of my girlfriends videos/photos (she is a photographer/video creator) - Storage for her to work from on her laptop / desktop - Internet-attached storage (I want access to the servers files over the internet from anywhere, from any device (HFS?)) - A Plex server for in-house streaming of music and movies - The option to host the occasional game server (Currently playing ECO) - Redundancy ( will also be running an off-site backup like backblaze monthly) - In the neighborhood of 20 TB of storage Fortunately I just got an older Dell T320 from work (I work in the dental industry). It's harddrives have failed, and even though DELL sent us two 1tb SAS drives, we couldn't rebuild the OS. The customer ended up buying himself a new server, seeing as this one is from late 2014. Short story. the server contains: 32 gigs of ECC RAM A Xeon E5-24xx V2 (not quite sure) An 8 port SAS controller (compatible with SATA). I'll include the service tag, if any of you fancy checking out the specs: http://www.dell.com/support/home/uk/en/ukbsdt1/product-support/servicetag/b29ld22/research?lwp=r What I'm wondering is: - What OS should I go with? (I am quite comfortable with Linux, and I work with Windows sever on a daily basis) - What kind of RAID setup should I run? (currently have got 2 x 4tb WD red NAS drives, and I can buy as many more as is required) - What kind of backup schedule would be sufficient? - What software/solution would I use for accessing the files online ( I did try HFS on an old PC i set up as a server, and that seemed OK) - Partitioning (How would I go about doing this efficiently?) - Upgradeability ( In case I need to expand the storage down the line) Any feedback is appreciated, and I am open to any suggestions! Thanks a bunch in advance //Even

Hello LTTians, So I have one or two colleagues in other parts of the world who are sharing files with me via google drive, However, soon the files will start to get extremely large for GDrive. (in excess of 20-30 GB per batch). I wanted to know: 1. are there any really good free/cheap ftp servers or transfer utilities or websites that let you transfer such large file sizes with ease. 2. If not, would it be easier (and safe) to turn a hard disk on my private computer into some kind of file upload server? Thanks in advance

I am trying to connect to FTP and think everything is set up right. I have made a port forward on port 21 to my server. When using filezilla i get a Connection Timed out and when using FTPTest.net i get the following error. It seems that it connects, accepts my username and password and then later disconnects because of a time out. Can anybody explain to me why that happens? Thank you in advance.

I only got it to work in my LAN so it's purely down to settings... Please, any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Problem with multiple FTP servers on the same computer/network
Ebaberin posted a topic in Networking
I was looking for a solution on how to access my files from somewhere else and I found that creating a FTP server was the most practical. With that said, I have little to none experience on doing such a thing. I need to have access both from my Windows user files and from a external hard drive I have plugged in via USB on the computer. So I created two FTP servers using the IIS: one for my user folder directory and the other for the hard drive directory. I have successfully connected and tested both of the servers through LAN. And I can connect to my user folder from another network, but I have no luck on connecting to the hard drive server. When I try to connect using the passive mode it reaches the timeout after executing some commands. The last two are '227 entering passive mode (local ip)' and 'Replacing site local adress (local ip) with (public ip). And when I try using the active mode it says '501 server cannot accept argument'. I tried disabling Windows firewall, tried using different ports and all but it just doesn't work. I'm using the default port 21 to the user folder and port 8500 to the hard drive folder. Both are configured on the port forwarding settings of my router. What am I overlooking that is making it all go wrong? Why one works and the other doesn't? Basically, I'm using the same settings as the server that works and just changing the port. -
So about a month ago i setup my first unraid box. love it!! ive installed and stored a lot of files and freed up TONS of space on my local machines, despite what other posts said earlier about installing games to a NAS/unraid i get remarkable gameplay! some textures take a few mins to load but nothing game breaking, also fps is great! My only issue is getting remote access or some type of FTP server to run. i've tried owncloud and proFTPd and a slue of others including dockers, NOTHING WORKS! what im hoping is someone can help explain how to use either the built in FTP server in unraid, owncloud, proftpd or anything they used and tested with success because a box that can only be used indoors is slightly wasted... at least in my eyes. the whole purpose of this box was to eliminate netflix and other streaming sites or webpages and how access to my own content when i feel... for free! PLEX i mean i've never had any success with b4 in the past being ps3 or apple/ android boxes, XBMC... geez i've just hated it since day one, but if someone is willing to explain i'm willing to learn. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me out. thanks well in advance for any and all contributions

so i just made a thread about having a problem while using ftp servers(i posted it in the wrong subforum) and this GREAT guy AdmnPower solved my problem(if u want a look at it ) so this led me into thinking about using something other than ftp for a fileserver, what i want is that i can tranfer files from my pc to my phone and vice versa without using my mobile(transfering directly using the pc) while having the option to use my mobile too for transfering, if u dont understand what im saying pls take a look at the thread i made(link above)

first of all, im really sorry if this is in the wrong forum. i couldn't differentiate between this one and the nas one. so to transfer files from my android to my pc and viceversa, i use ftp. i use 2 ftp methods: 1. running the ftp server straight from my phone(through es file explorer i might add) and using the built in windows ftp client or sometimes the filezilla client. this option gives me the freedom to manage files straight from my pc with a big and clean screen which is also much more efficient but then i have to turn on my ftp server everytime from my phone when i have to use it(which defeats the purpose of having to use this method cuz i dont want to touch my mobile for things like these) or if i leave it running, it would drain my battery like crazy not to mention also slow down my phone 2. the second method i use is that i run the server straight from my pc using the filezilla server software but then to manage files ill have to connect to it through my mobile and manage the files from there, the advantage here is that i can transfer files using my mobile(es file explorer's ftp client)when ever i want to, like when im away from the pc and dont want to leave the comfort of the couch. but the disadvantage here is that even tho when i am on my pc ill have to use my mobile so what i want is to run the server off the pc and tranfer files back and forth directly from it while having the option to manage files from my phone when i am away from the pc. There is of course 99.99% chance that i am missing something obvious in the world of file transfering but still guide me please and im really sorry if wasted ur time(i had to write such a big post otherwise i wouldnt be able to explain the problem)

So I followed this guide on setting up an FTP server on my network: http://www.windowscentral.com/how-set-and-manage-ftp-server-windows-10 My problem is, when I try to connect to it on ES File Explorer on my Android phone, it doesn't find it. I've forwarded my ports, I've covered all my bases, I just can't seem to figure it out.

I am trying to find a program so I can transfer videos to my friends. I like the simplicity of FTP being able to use windows file explorer as the client and the sever is a function of windows server but I don't like how if a download or upload is interrupted you have to start it over. ,Thanks Branson

Hi all, I currently have a raspberry pi hooked up to my external drive which holds all of my media. I set up an ftp server and forwarded the correct port in my router. All is well and I can perfectly access my external drive from anywhere in the world using my external ip adress. Here comes the question: If I am connected to the local network in which the FTP server is located, but I access it through the external IP (instead of the local ip address), will it use up any of my limited monthly internet bandwidth (100 GB)? Or should the router be smart enough to route all traffic locally, not affecting my monthly bandwidth? Very curious for the answer!

Hey guys, I have a NAS server and I configurated everything the way I wanted it to. The FTP works when I go in a browser and search for it with FTP://(IP to connect from outside the network:port) It even works on my phone but when using filezilla, It doesn't want to work. Error: The data connection could not be established: ECONNREFUSED - Connection refused by server That's the error that I'm getting. I have no idea how to fix this, the Nas that I'm using is a NAS326 from Zyxel

I've just made an FTP Server on my main computer via Filezilla Server for home use. The problem is that I can only access the server on the PC it's running of. No other device inside the LAN connection can access it. I have no idea what might cause this issue. UPDATE: Status: Connecting to 192.168.178.10:21... Error: Connection timed out after 20 seconds of inactivity Error: Could not connect to server Status: Waiting to retry... Status: Connecting to 192.168.178.10:21... Title pretty it says much. I'm planning to run Linux on it with both a mumble and ftp server. Here are some things I'm also looking for in regards to the mobo: -An integrated cpu would be nice to save cash but isn't a requirement -passive cooling maybe (obviously don't need much processing power) -Onboard video should be suported as there is no need for discrete graphics in this scenario -MUST be relatively low-power

I want to build a small pc that will be always on. I'll be using it as a small FTP hoster via FileZilla to host a website. I'll also be using it as a Plex media server, I would like to have 3-4 streams from it. Is this a good price/quality build ? I want low cost and energy. I already have a (old) PSU and I want to know if it will be compatible with my build. All the parts will be bought via Amazon es/uk/de/fr. Build : http://pcpartpicker.com/p/tck63C <- With a maybe to weak processor to have 3-4 streams. Pictures of the PSU : http://imgur.com/a/6MUom After some recommendations from other PC builders, I upgraded the CPU. New build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/D2Tn3C Thank you very much for watching/replying and sorry for the noob questions !

Ay m80s, im a csgo player who puts in around 50-60hrs a week (yes i know literally enough to get paid time and a half and a half), but I've started to burn out on it, my team is getting draw more towards things like MOBA's which i have little to no interest in. I need to fill my time while there off playing league, so i ask you guys, what are some ftp, linux compatible games that aren't MOBA's (because i don't like them and in total there's about 7 of them), or MMO's (because i already have no life).
