Hello all, looking for some assistance, as I'm completely unfamiliar with EGPUs. I have a 2019 Dell XPS 15 7590 laptop. I have 32 GB Kingston Fury DDR4 2666mhz ram, and a 1TB Samsung PRO PCle 4.0 NVME SSD. My limiting factor for any games is the built-in graphics card, so I started looking into EGPUs. Apparently they can get pretty pricey. Does anybody have any recommendations for an affordable EGPU that already cones with a built-in graphics card, that would work with what I,ve got for light to medium gaming? Any help much appreciated.

I have an Intel Framework and I have been using an eGPU (Sonnet w/ 2080ti) for about a week now. I've only connected and turned on the laptop with the eGPU connected 3-4 times so far. However, twice I had to enter a Bitlocker Recovery key when turning on the laptop. Any idea whats going on or how to stop this? It'll be really annoying if this becomes regular. I know bitlocker is mostly for storage and affects if the storage is removed and re-added, but I haven't touched either the system's storage in the chassis or my storage usb c extension (the one that is an official framework accessory).

I'm currently student so most of the week 5/7 days (- holidays) i spent in different city. I do have tablet (samsung tab s9+) so I DON'T NEED LAPTOP. If i have some free time i can play some games on my steam deck but it is a bit too little powerful. Playing some indie games is ok but steamdeck's 60hz screen isnt the best one, more demanding titles i have to sacrifice graphic settings, booting to windows and trying to do some editing in adobe programs also isn't perfect experience due to lack of performance. There are things that i love about steamdeck i can just plug it into tv get a few dualsence controllers and my and my friends can have gaming party on TV. Getting to the point The performance of Msi Claw posistively suprised me also the screen despite not being oled looked more than enough. My 1st thought was to sell my steamdeck add a bit of money and buy oled one but it wouldn't really change performance. My 2nd idea is to sell steamdeck, most of pc (motherboard, ram,cpu, cooling, maybe power supply... ) and buy Msi Claw (or a different handheld), GPU enclosure for my 2080Ti. Looking at benchmarks Intel® Core™ Ultra 7 processor 155H (msi claw) performs a bit better than my I9-9900k. I have some conserns about that: - how good would eGPU accualy run - would i be able to connect: mouse, keyboard, microphone (mini jack), speakers (optical port), discs (at least some of them) and probably from time to time some usb stick, or different accessories ^without affecting eGPU performance - on 1st sight msi software seems middling - I'm into Playstation button layout, steamdecks is ok, msi claw/xbox/asus rog have less comfortable one but maybe it is just something to get used to PS: my tablet has amazing screen and i found an app called superdisplay that allowes me to make it act as a display with pretty good results - full res 120hz, touchscreen works, Samsung pen's pressure sensivity works...... but it has 3 disadvantages - 1 no hdr support, works only with windows, it uses quite a lot of processing power. What do you think about my upgrade idea? Which handheld would fit my needs the best? What GPU enclosure do you recomend? ^ could i buy used one or not really? What are your experience with running handhelds+eGPU for a longer time? Maybe it is better to save some money for steamdeck upgrade and leave pc as it is for now? Any ideas how to improve my idea? I recently bought a Lenovo Thinkpad T16 Gen 2, and the gaming performance has been a big step back from my previous gaming laptop, which I wanted to replace because of bad battery life and constant BSODs and crashes (I've been trying to fix it for the past 2 years and it's been on and off, it's a Lenovo Legion 5 with Ryzen 7 4800H, 16GB of DDR4-3200MHz RAM and a mobile RTX 2060). I got the T16 G2 with a Ryzen 7 PRO 7840U and 32GB LPDDR5X-6400MHz RAM. I was wondering if it would support an eGPU, given that it doesn't have any dedicated Thunderbolt ports, but does have USB-C 4, which I think supports Thunderbolt 3? And also if the laptop simply allows for it. I was thinking about getting me a second hand Razer Core X and an RTX 2060 (or slightly better). Any help, tips or insight is appreciated!

My friend has a Lenovo 7i and wants an egpu. The laptop has thunderbolt 4, and there aren't any m.2 slots to spare (or any form of expansion for that matter). They don't have the budget to get an actual enclosure equipped with thunderbolt. Hello, Guys first time posting here. So the thing is I have an HP Pavilion gaming 15-ec2xxx. Click here for the HP official spec sheet. So I wanted to use an external 1080p monitor as I edit on this laptop and this laptop doesn't have a color-accurate display. Now I wanted to use a single wire for everything Ethernet, USB devices, and Display. Now the USB here is a simple 3.0 USB and doesn't support alt mode on it. Researching on whether could I force output display through USB I found this device which could be used to power extra display through USB. Now the main question is are these devices any good, do they use CPU, and do my machine performance reduce after using this device? As I do editing every single bit of performance is much appreciated.

Hi. Has anyone else tried non graphics PCIe cards in an eGPU enclosure? I did see in one of the LTT M1 Mac reviews that showed a 10G ethernet card working within a Razer Core X on a new M1 chip. Perhaps this is something that could be explored in an LTT to show other ways of gaining connectivity (obviously with some performance penalty due to running Thunderbolt and not having it directly in a PCIe slot). Even with a supposed performance penalty I was able to run 4 seperate 4K at 60Hz display outputs with hardware playback from a video projection program called Madmapper from an MSI RX580 in the Razer Core X connected to a 2018 Macbook Pro running an i5 with no stuttering or crashes for over 4 hours in a sub optimal test conditions. Cards that would be of interest that could be used in the Razer Core X would be the Avid HDX DSP card, Blackmagic Design DeckLink 4K60 Quad HDMI Recorder Capture Card, Dante PCIe-R Soundcard and Universal Audio Octo "Core" UAD-2 PCIe DSP Accelerator. These can only currently be used with a Mac Pro due to them being PCIe which is less than ideal for quite a number of reasons least of which being price and the form factor (portability to have a mobile streaming/audio recording setup (as in it can fit in two Pelican cases) ). Could this be a way get PCIe cards to work without having to have physical PCIe slot in a computer and could this mean that proprietary cards could still run on newer computers and provide some form of backwards compatibility? (obviously these would need drivers to work and will Apple being a**holes about what drivers can be used on MacOS (talking about AMD RX6000 series) this may be an even bigger issue. But from those cards I listed above they all have MacOS compatible drivers which currently run but with a direct PCIe connection TIA for any thoughts or info

This is a bit od but I have this older hp one the silver beats audio ones it was originally an amd system after upgrading the cpu I switched everything to an intel mobo with a gt 750 I think now I got board and ordered one of the fancy adapters from mini pcie for the wifi cars to 16x the only gpu that actually worked was a gtx 670 and iv tried Many gpu's including a 1660, 980 ti 1080ti and even an r9 280 and out of all of them the 670 whats up with this how can I truly know if something works and won't

CPU: AMD 3020e (Base Clock: 1.2GHz, Overclocked: 2.6GHz) (2C,2T CPU) iGPU: AMD Vega 3 Graphics (2GB allocated // Taken from RAM) eGPU: EVGA Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 GPU 8GB GDDR6 DP Blower RAM: Samsung x1 32GB DDR4 3200MHz Single-Channel External PSU: Dell DA-2 12V 18A 220W AC Adapter (For GPU) Screen Resolution: 1366x768 (FHD) eGPU Dock: V8.5 EXP GDC Laptop External GPU Dock M.2 A+E Key I will also connect an EVanLink Ghost DisplayPort Dummy Plug, so that I can use the built-in display on the laptop, (this also means that I will lose little to no performance out of the GPU) I will be waiting a couple more weeks for the the eGPU Dock to arrive from China, afterwards I'll try doing some before and after benchmarks comparing the performance of the setup with and without the eGPU

CPU: Xeon E-2176M RAM: 128GB (4*32GB DDR4 SDRAM PC4-21300) GFX: Quadro P4200 with Max-Q Design I have a Razer Core X Chroma on the way and I'm planning on purchasing a graphics card to use with it for now and eventually to put into a tower I'll be assembling next year. The laptop has a 4K display but my only current external "monitors" are a couple TV's. One is a 47" Toshiba 47L6200 (1080P) and the other is a Samsung UN58NU7100 (4K). I'm fine with gaming at 1080P but I'm tired of the occasional slideshow that is Starfield when running at 720P and all low settings. I'd be targeting 60 hz/fps since that's the max to my current monitors although I may get a proper gaming monitor in the future with a higher refresh rate. I'd like to be able to use the graphics card for a few years with medium quality settings. I'd really like to have some nice eye candy with ray tracing so I'm picking Nvidia over AMD. My current options for graphics cards are: $600 CAD - used EVGA 3080 FTW3 (unknown background) $750 CAD - used EVGA 3080 Ti FTW3 Ultra. used to mine Ethereum for 6 months in a professional set up, utilizing server cases and high end room temperature control. Temperatures of cards were closely monitored. Upgraded thermal pads professionally installed. $845 CAD - new Gigabyte Windforce 4070 Given I'm in British Columbia I'm not overly concerned about the cost of electricity but I do like the efficiency of the 4070 just for using it within the Razer Core X Chroma. Should I get the new card and avoid any issues due to being used for mining? I can afford all of these cards but I've been unable to determine what the real hazards are due to cards being used for crypto mining and the comparisons I've found put all three cards in pretty similar spots.

Hi there, bit of context I currently own the following laptop: https://www.mwave.com.au/product/msi-prestige-156-laptop-i71280p-16gb-1tb-rtx3050-win11-home-carbon-grey-ac55087 laptop has i7-1280p (14c/20t), 16gb ram and a 3050 + thunderbolt 4 for egpu (also has 2 ports so i can charge and run egpu) and my desktop is rocking a Ryzen 3 3100 (4c/8t) at 4.13ghz + 6600xt +32gb ram I am wondering if i am best selling the pc on marketplace or swapping for maybe a 3080, i know that the thunderbolt will cause a bottleneck however due to having a better CPU in the laptop i'm thinking it may be worth it from my look into bandwidth i am looking at going from 16GB/s (64Gb/s) to 32Gb/s (TB4 has 40 total but only 32 for pcie related) looking to see thoughts of the community and if anyone has made the switch watched this yt video for ideas but obviously the cpu in the desktop is much better in this, comparing to the other one (i dont own this many games) with my gpu

even ingame mw3 is 20fps i mean cmon rx580 should blow that game away, turn out this card is a mining card (PowerColor RX 580 Mining 4 GB) if it turn out to be card issue i just get another card (preferly brand new)

Other details: I got a 1185g7 intel framework after my 11th gen desktop died (I use avx-512). I plan on using my 3080ti as an egpu for gaming. Should I ask framework if I can preorder a ryzen 7 7840 motherboard (replacing the 11th gen) or is it not worth it?

I just ran into a strange problem and I am looking for some advice. I recently purchased a Razer Core X egpu enclosure to use with my laptop. I have the i9 version of the Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Ultra which does have a laptop 4070 in it which is really nice but it only has 8gb of vram. I have a 3090 that was in my prior computer so I got the egpu enclosure so that I could take advantage of the extra vram for simulations. I bought the enclosure off of ebay and it appears to be in good condition and it was packed very well. It arrived yesturday so I put my graphics card in it, fired it up, plugged my laptop in, and then recieved bad news. When the egpu is connected, the nvidia driver (which is up to date) seems to crash. My whole system starts to lag, I can't open windows settings, I can't open the nvidia control panel, and my laptop fan goes to maximum. I checked device manager and the intel graphics, 4070, and 3090 are all detected. The properties on the 3090 says it works fine but it definitely doesn't and I don't have any display output though it. The 4070 says that windows can't access the driver. Win+ctrl+shift+b does flash the screen but has no effect. I assume that is because the intel graphics are running the display so it doesn't actually restart the nvidia driver. I tried rebooting and restarting the nvidia driver through task manager but neither did anything. When I unplug the egpu and even if I reboot the 4070 has the same error. The only way I have fixed it is by uninstalling the nvidia driver. Sometimes when I reboot after the uninstall, the driver is magically back and working but other times I have to reinstall the driver manually and that fixes it. Any ideas? I am really lost here and any input would be really helpful. Also, I am using a 3ft usb-c 240watt 40gbit cable. Strangely, when I plug it into my laptop, I also get a windows notification saying I would get faster charging if I plug into a faster charger. I thought this enclosure was supposed to put out 100 watts which is what my laptop takes so I am confused why it isn't getting that. Do I have a bad cable? I don't have any faster cables and this one was fine with my 10gbit ssd but I guess 40gbit is a lot more than that. Is that the potential source of error is there something else I should check?

I'm trying to making an eGPU and I'm trying to future proof it for current and future gen gpus. Mainly AMD(6000 and above) or older gen Nvidia (3000 or 2000 series). I'm trying to keep my costs down for this, so I'm trying to find some cheap 500w or 600w psus since I won't need as much power to just support the graphics card. I'm also trying to keep it around 50 dollars for the psu but it's clear I'm going to need something more robust to get those 3 or more 8(6+2) pin pcie power connections, so I don't mind spending too much more. I'm just having a difficult time finding anything that has these features in the 500-600-ish watt range so if you have any recommendations, or if I should change my expectations let me know.

And it's also my ONLY PC at home, every "evening driver", not counting smartphone. OMG What is This? This is originally Dell XPS m1330 from 2008. It have seen some stuff. It's been places. Different parts were inside it. Right now it has Intel® Core™2 Extreme X9000 (6M Cache, 2.80 GHz) Overclocked to 3.4-3.6 GHz depending on the weather. Zalman CNPS2X + usb fan strapped to the side. 8Gb of DDR2 ram. Samsung SSD 500Gb. GeForce 8400gs inside it Radeon 7850 outside. with exp gdc adapter. 5ghz AC wi-fi. Short story: Laptop that i bought in my university years. Some upgrades along the line... Moved to another country and had nothing else to take with me. More upgrades.... It runs Overwatch. Hello, I am trying to determine if my laptop will support an external GPU using its thunderbolt 3 connection? I have a lenovo thinkpad x270 (the i5-7300u 8gb ram 256gb ssd version) and i desperately need a performance upgrade so im planning to buy an RX 580 and hooked on an EXP GDC via the wifi slot of my lenovo, will this work? I asked chatgpt and it said i might need to configure things on the bios but when i looked at it there's no option for external gpu or something. I don't wanna waste my money im on tight budget (Im a game developer, content creator / streamer too so I kinda need at least that)

I've posted this for the 3rd time this month I got a Sapphire PULSE RX 580 4GB in an eGPU setup and my graphics card is acting up lately. It refuses to install drivers, and the way it refuses is a blue screen (DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE). After the blue screen the laptop refuses to log in, and it’s stuck in the login screen as: "Please wait for the Local Session Manager" (Sometimes even worse, like "Please wait for the SENS", which I have never heard before). I tried DDU it multiple times and it just show the same results. Can someone help me fix it? The adapter in question is the ADT-Link R43SG-TU 50cm The PSU is the Xigmatek XPower 350 (true total wattage is 250W) Another notes is that currently I have NO ACCESS to any PC or test bench, just my laptop. I plan to use mini-box's openups to power a minipc and a few other electronics related to building a laptop. While i've read all documentation several times, I was wondering if anyone has experience pushing it past the 6amp nominal load rating to the 10amp peak rating. Im not unfamiliar to cooling mods and was under the assumption I would be making a custom heat sink for it, along with one for my 7940hs as its stock cooler is limited to only 90w(ships @ 65w), 120-150w being the goal for this gen and next gens peak apu.

Hello everyone, I am in the process of setting up an eGPU for my 2017 MacBook Pro using an Nvidia Tesla K10 GPU and an EXP GDC Beast. I am running Windows through Boot Camp on my MacBook Pro. My issue is related to power. The Nvidia Tesla K10 requires both a 6-pin and an 8-pin power connector, and I am not sure if my current power supply unit (PSU) can provide the necessary power and has the correct connectors. I initially thought my PSU was a Corsair 750W model, but it turned out that was not the case. Unfortunately, I don't currently have the exact model details for my PSU. Here is what I have tried so far: I've tried various combinations of connecting just the Beast, just the Nvidia K10, and also tried rigging the Beast together with the GPU. However, none of these attempts have been successful. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to proceed? Would it be advisable to get a new PSU, and if so, what specifications should I be looking for? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance! Hi All I live in Australia stupidly the SteamDeck isnt for sale here i would love to buy one but just saw that the ROG Ally will be available at local stores to buy (YAY). I may not buy one because i really would like to use the SteamDeck and Linux but the ROG Ally has the stupidly proprietary connector for the ROG XG Mobile. I have an external GPU enclosure and wonder if anyone could get an eGPU to work with the port on the ROG Ally. Yes i know its not a thunderbolt port and yes i no its x8 lanes and not x4 but still some way to get eGPUs to work with it would be awesome and could make it a better value.

I have two laptops, Dell Inspiron 3542 (i3 4005u 8GB DDR3L) & Dell Latitude 3540 (i5 4210u 4+4GB DDR3L). The Internal displays of Both laptops are completely Broken. I used to use latitude 3540 as my main device, as it was much more powerful than the other. I also had a GTX 1060 6GB lying around, so i thought if i connect this to my latitude laptop, i would get a little better performance in games. (I know that there will be a huge CPU bottleneck but i did not have any other GPU) So, i bought PSU and a "Mini-Pcie to Pci express 16x riser" (A cheaper version of the infamous EXP GDC beast) and hooked it with my latitude. However, it did not work. I was not even getting backlit on my internal display. Similarly, no display on my external display (which i tried both connecting to my laptop and the GPU) . Then, i tried Turning off the Power supply (turning off the GPU), the laptop booted normally. So i enabled startup sound in windows to check if windows was even booting. However, I found out that windows was not booting as there was no sound and no light on the mouse. Then, I tried the hotswap method, I tried connecting the GPU after suspending the laptop (putting laptop to sleep) but nothing worked. Then i thought that maybe the Riser was faulty, so i connected it to my inspiron 3542. It worked perfectly on that laptop. It was even playing games without any issue. However, i wanted to game on my latitude which had a better CPU and dual channel RAM ( For getting less CPU bottleneck as my inspiron was having Hugee CPU bottleneck in almost every game) . So i installed a modded bios for my latitude laptop and started tweaking the BIOS settings. I tried everything in the video configuration tab, however nothing seemed to work, So I did the Rookie mistake #1, I disabled Integrated Graphics from the BIOS. Now i was neither getting Display with GPU connected nor getting display without GPU connected. Then i ordered CH431A programmer and SOIC8 to flash a new BIOS, however the modded bios was not getting flashed properly, so i found a working bios on the internet and flashed it. ( I returned the CH431A and SOIC8 ) The laptop was booting into windows (without GPU connected) , However i was not able to access the BIOS settings after flashing the BIOS, nor was i able to Switch to my external display (connected to the laptop) Until windows boots up. So, now my laptop is not POSTing with eGPU connected & a locked BIOS. Although I can still game on my inspiron laptop, However is there any way to make the GPU come to life on my latitude? Any help would be phenomenal.
