Is there any way to connect thunderbolt cable (Apple LED Cinema Display 27") to a DVI port on a PC's graphic card? I tried using a Mini Displayport (female) to HDMI adapter (the graphics card also has HDMI support) but it didn't work. All suggestions are welcome, as long as they allow me to keep the display hehe.

I just bought a Dell U2515H 1440p and my GPU is a MSI r9 380. The DP and HDMI ports on my GPU are currently taken, only the DVI is available. The Dell monitor only has connectors for HDMI and Display Port. What are my options? I need a converter that can handle 1440p 60hz

My monitor an Acer S191HQL with VGA and DVI-D Dual Link ports. However, the monitor came with a VGA cable and a DVI-D Single Link cable. Right now I'm using the VGA port to connect to my laptop but I'm planning to build a budget system in the future with the ZOTAC GTX 1060 Mini 6GB GDDR5 which has 3 DisplayPorts, 1 HDMI port and 1 DVI-D Dual Link port. Since the DVI-D Single Link connector has less pins than a Dual Link port, It will fit; but will it work?

Hello, my 144hz monitor has a hdmi port and my pc (my graphics card) has a dvi port. If I connect the dvi end to the pc (graphics card) and the hdmi end to the monitor, is that an ok thing to do? Will it work? Or should i just buy a dp cable? (The hdmi-dvi cable's version is 1.4) Im sorry idk anything about pcs, it's my first time.

i am having ASUS VG236H monitor which supports (1920x1080 @ 60 hz via HDMI) and (1920x1080 @ 120 hz 3D via DVI-D dual-link only). I have MSI GE63 RAIDER which has 1 x HDMI, 1 x Mini Displayport and 1 x USB 3.1 type-c. HDMI to DVI-D Dual link is not possible without an active adapter which is pretty much expensive. Mini DisplayPort to DVI-D dual link ( I think it is not possible as DP++ only converts signal within and DP needs an active adapter) : I searched and i could not find any mini DP to DVI-D (Dual Link) cables or adapters. in laptop manual : USB 3.1 Port (Type C) USB 3.0, the SuperSpeed USB, delivers the higher interface speeds for connecting various devices, such as storage devices, hard drives, or video cameras, and offers more advantages over high-speed data transferring. The slim and sleek USB Type C connector features reversible plug orientation and cable direction, and supports scalable performance to future-proof solution, including USB 3.x, DisplayPort, PCIe, audio, and optionally supported Thunderbolt™ 3. Is USB type-c in my laptop capable of converting the signal into DVI-D (Dual Link) without an active adapter? is there a single cable i could buy to overcome my needs?

So I brought a ChromeCast for my ageing TV, and when I plugged it in, it shows "No SIGNAL"/"MODE NOT SUPPORTED" message. On the menu/interface it shows the source as HDMI/DVI , but on the back it is labelled as HDMI (DVI) IN instead of HDMI/DVI . So what is going on ? Can anyone explain ? and How to resolve this issue ?

I recently upgraded my system from a b350 mobo and ryzen 2600 to a tuf x570-plus and 3900x and I can no longer boot to windows. I've tried everything i can think of at this point and nothing works. The OS is on an Intel 660p NVME. I know the motherboard works because I tested it with my 2600 before my 3900x arrived. I used to be able to access the PC in safe mode on the 3900x until I tried a fresh install. Now whenever I try to enter windows or safe mode I get an install error telling me to restart my PC. This loops on continuously. Nothing is overclocked. Could the CPU be a dud? I had read somewhere if its able to access safe mode then that is most likely not the case. Discussion on reddit:

1660 ti Plz, list all 1660 ti(s) that have DVI ports in them.
Mr.Stork posted a topic in Graphics Cards
I wanna buy a 1660 ti, but have a DVI monitor, no I don't wanna buy adapters, Idk what brands make dvi-d ports, except for GALAX. So please list all known brands/1660 ti having DVI ports. Also, it's better if it's available in India. Not a necessity. -
Hello, i am sorry if this has been posted before, but i have read a lot about this and can't figure it out. Also sorry if this is in the wrong section! I decided to upgrade my GPU from GTX 1050 non ti to ASUS ROG STRIX 1660 TI OC, and now i am unable to use 144hz with normal HDMI. My monitor has HDMI - DVI - VGA My GPU has Display port and HDMI I used DVI in my old GPU and it worked fine I am unable to choose 144hz in Nvidia. I have read things about a cable called dual link which can grant acces to 144hz? Help is much appriciated! Thank you.

Hello, I have a 144Hz monitor but currently only have DVI to connect my computer and monitor. I would like to know, will overclocking too high damage my cable? Sorry if this is a silly question.

Hi, I'm trying to set up a 3 monitor arrangement on my workstation. Primary monitor that the system has always run with is Dell S2409W, 1920x1080 via HDMI. I have two identical Iiyama ProLite E485S monitors which I wish to connect using the DVI and VGA connections, rather than having a second PC running. The monitors are good, operation via both VGA and HDMI has been verified on the machine they were working on (card with dual DVIs) and 2 other machines. I managed to get each of the monitors to work on this PC via VGA, but neither would work via DVI on this PC The VGA connected monitor is set to the right of the main monitor. Here's where it gets interesting.... I did update the Intel graphics driver, and during the update process the DVI connected monitor woke up and displayed an extension of the desktop, albeit to the right of the VGA monitor (no problem, I thought - I could set that up later) Upon restart at the end of the driver update, the DVI monitor reverted to standby. So, it seems I am missing a setting somewhere. If I go into either Windows display properties or the Intel driver software, there is no sign of the DVI monitor, it does not appear in the monitor list or when I click "Detect" or "Identify" I don't have dedicated graphics cards as I don't need high performance, these additional monitors will be solely used for displaying reference material, eg component data sheets. Someone please tell me what I'm overlooking! TIA, Simon.

I recently aquired this PC with the E6420 CPU and Quadro FX3500. I didn't know what was in it when I got it, but I was pretty sure it was going to struggle even running Windows 10, let alone run games. However, I was caught off-guard when I saw the Quadro, and now I'm thinking it might not be such a shitter after all. Now, I'm an absolute beginner. This is pretty much my first PC (I've had a Macbook since 2013). The extent of my knowledge is derived almost solely from LTT videos. I would boot it up and benchmark it, but the Quadro only has DVI and S-Video ports, which I have no cord, nor monitor with those ports. So I have two questions: 1. I'm planning on plugging it into my TV. What kind of video adaptor should I use considering the DVI and S-Video on the Quadro and the ports that my TV has? 2. I'm not really sure what to do with it. If you aquired this computer, what would you do with it? Are there any logical upgrades, or is the case and hard drive the only usable parts?

I have an ASUS VG236H monitor which is 4-5 years old. It only supports 120FPS through DVI-D (Dual Link) connection. I am using it as an external monitor for my MSI GE 63 8RF laptop with GTX 1070. My laptop only has HDMI and mini-displayport outputs. I am now connected via HDMI which supports 1920x1080 @ 60fps in monitor. Is there a way to acheive 120 FPS through overclocking or is there any other way to acheive 120 fps. My display is capable though i'm wasting it's capacity.

Okay, so. I have had a 120hz monitor for a year now, ( Got it for free from a friend ), its an Asus VG236H. So i yesterday actually first time tried to use 120hz, and bought a DVI cable, (Matches the style on my monitor, i am pretty sure its DVI-D), Well yeah. so i plugged it in, and it showed the resolution as 1024x768 and as a non-generic PnP monitor, I tried installing drivers and reinstall graphics drivers and everything, but all i got is "out of range" even at low resolution after trying to install my monitors drivers from asus' website (I don't have the disc), So, i created a custom resolution of 1920x1080(Native res, works with HDMI and VGA) and it worked even at 120hz, but i felt unsure about using a custom resolution and wanted to fix it), Now everytime i plug it in and try to use it, it just says "out of range" and if it boots into windows 10, after the spinning circle and logo, the screen goes dark gray, and just sits there, i don't know if there's a fault in my monitor or what. Any advice on this?

I’ve recently started using a Display Port cable with my 144hz monitor in order to get the monitor to actually run at 144hz, but I’ve encountered some issues. For a couple days all went smooth I was going about my day with a lovely 144 frames until one morning when I turned my computer, the monitor displayed ‘No signal’. This was easily fixed by restarting my computer, however the issue persisted for a couple days, requiring me to restart my computer after booting it in order for my monitor to display anything. I thought this in itself was an odd issue but I didnt care that much because it seemed to be easily solved. However one day restarting my computer didnt work, I tried all I could think of until I found another DP cable which when plugged in worked (from memory) instantly. Not long after I starting using this DP cable though the same issue came about, requiring me to restart in order to do anything until finally this DP cable stopping working. Now the only thing that works is a DVI cable, not this wouldnt be an issue but for some reason everytime I set my monitor from 59hz to 144hz, it reverts instantly. When I was using an HDMI changing it to 144hz wasnt even avaliable, so it seems weird to me that now it is avalible but doesnt work. I press apply with 144hz selected and once the monitor returns from being black its still at 59hz. Essentially I have two issues; Im unsure if my 3 DP are all buggered or if perhaps the DP input on my GPU (RX 480) or on my monitor (AOC G2460PF) are bugged and perhaps causing these cables to die somehow…?? Also I’ve no idea why my DVI isnt allowing me to run my monitor at 144hz Any comments or help would be greatly appreciating as I can no longer cope with just 59 frames.

To get this started, I'm playing in a csgo tournament on this most upcoming sunday as of the date of this thread. My monitor is a standard Asus 1920×1080 144hz monitor with standard stuff. As of right now, its connected via hdmi 1.4 cable. My goal is to still use my main monitor (with its specs [that I care about] listed above) WHILE also sending a signal to a TV of a different resolution and refresh rate 2560×1440 @60 or 100 hz (cant remember off hand and I'm not home) The big question- is there anyway to achieve this without compromising my monitors refresh rate AND not costing too much (I'm so broke I cant pay attention) Would a cheap passive splitter effect my main monitors function. If I went that round. If I did go the route of the previous question. I would have to convert it all to dvi first (since I have a splitter somewhere and more cables for it than my hdmi stuff), so would it be able to support 144hz refresh rate without any negative visual *stuffs* that could effect gameplay. To end. I know the obvious thing in peoples minds are "why dont you just use the other ports ok my graphics card". The simple answer is that it seems to lower my fps just enough for me to notice even when the monitors are the same and just mirrored and not extended. If there is a fix for that so it could work I'm open to any and all ideas. Sorry for my horrible writing I'm exhausted and have no sleep rn. Thanks, -yacovrex

Hi all ! I'm currently running a GTX 980 windforce and earlier today while i was ripping down the dirt tracks in dirt rally my display went blank. I restarted the system and the display output was wrong. The post screen wasn't full screen, the text was blurry, then the BIOS image looked like it had over-scan on, then after the windows logo there was no signal. I proceeded to inspect the card physically for any damage (Oh yeah, i should probably mention that I was testing out an overclock of 100Mhz on GPU and 400Mhz on Vram (That was maybe over kill ? ) ). While inspecting i dissemble the heat sink (Interesting thing when i disassembled the heat sink is that the VRAM pads fell appart, who know's how old this card is), no apparent damage. I then plugged the HDMI in (No heatsink) just to see it post, and what do you know it's back to normal. I reapplied thermal past everywhere, the Vrams seem to be close enough to the heat sink for it to be cooled with thermal past, temps are fine etc... So really the question here is, has anyone had a similar experience ? What could be the problem with the DVI output ? Thanks Fred

At first I thought my GPU had died, however I can see it in windows device manager, afterburner and nvidia controlpanel. I have done a clean install of the newest drivers with the help of DDU and checked by connections. Cmos has been cleared. MSI GTX 1060 6G Single fan. Only outputs with DVI. No displayport. Fans don't spin up. Seems to be drawing power as it was hot. Problem started after the PC had gone into sleep mode and screen never went on again. (Was using DP) Had similar issues for about a month, but it always started working again.

hi, so i have a 5:4 monitor and im using it now at 1280x1024 resolution i want to increase the resolution i tried custom resolutions on nvidia control panel but can't get the screen to be either blurry or scaled good i was wondering if i can user like windows 10 dpi scale but it doesn't reduce less than 100% and can't afford to buy a new display for the moment is there like any way or program even if i use like 16:9 resolution and leave black spaces on the display like a movie or something lol anything would be fine * i have a quadro 400 btw and im using a vga cable im going to change to a dvi cable which is better..

Hello, so I recently bought a 2080 and because I knew it only had 3 DP and 1 HDMI I bought 3 adapters for my 3 monitors with it. My main monitor only supports DVI, HDMI and VGA so I bought a DVI-D (Dual Link) adapter. I plugged the DVI-D cable from my monitor into a DVI-D to DP adapter (https://amzn.to/2AW4TDs < This one) but it didn't work. The monitor flashed a couple of times and said: "Incorrect cable . Please use the dual link DVI cable that came with your monitor". I was confused because I used the cable which came with the monitor.I also noticed 1 pin is lower than the other ones (on both ends). Do I have to use a active DVI-D to DP adapter? Thanks for your help.
