I purchased a Displayport to DVI-D Cable to hook up my GTX 1080 to my Monitor (DP from GTX 1080 to DVI-D on monitor) and it isn't working. Windows is still detecting only 2 displays (1 monitor via DP and another via HDMI). I know the 1080 has a DVI port, but it didn't seem to work (i tried a regular DVI cable). Any ideas?

Hello folks, I'm having a spot of trouble with a two monitor setup after installing a new graphics card. Both monitors worked perfectly on my old card (GTX 560 Ti) so I do not think they are broken. Upon initial installation of the graphics card I was a bit miffed at myself for not checking the I/O more carefully. The new card has DVI-D ports where as the old one had DVI-I ports. I used to use a passive connector on the old system and of course this did not and could not work with the new digital only system. I read around a bit and found out that you can buy an active converter to make this work 'apparently'. A thread on this forum was rather helpful (thanks @Glenwing): So I purchased a seemingly reputable converter in the hopes of smoothing out my problem. Much cheaper than buying a new monitor. I know my VGA only monitor is out of date but, in a word, money. My first monitor works fine via HDMI as expected but my second monitor does not (black screen; no input). The second monitor does appear to be detected even if it does not display anything. Windows shows two monitors in Run > desk.cpl, and I can see it in device manager (are these both remnants perhaps?). My setup: OS: Windows 10 Pro, Version 10.0.14393 Build 14393. Graphics card: GTX 1060 Gigabyte 6GB. Driver version 21.21.13.7653. Monitor 1: ASUS VN247H 23.6-inch Widescreen LED Multimedia Monitor (1920 x 1080, 1 ms, 2x HDMI, VGA, Full HD 1080p, Super Narrow Frame) Connection for monitor 1: HDMI output from card, HDMI input to screen. Monitor 2: Fujitsu Siemens AMILO LL 3220T. Connection for monitor 2: DVI-D output from card through an active converter for DVI-D to VGA, VGA input to screen. Amazon link for the converter: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Adapter-DVI-D-Female-Converter-Display/dp/B01G05RWPO/ I was hoping this would work 'out of the box'. Alas, it appears to not work. I found this thread, which seems to have the same problem but I am confused by the comments. @dewman45 seems to suggest that VGA just will not work with a 1060 but goes on to say that an active converter might work? My thoughts: No-go, too modern GPU with too old screen: RIP. Bad converter? Could work with a more involved converting system but at that point it's probably time to buy a new monitor. Does anyone have any input (haha) on my problem? Thanks in advance, Henduil

I just got an LG 31MU97 and want to run it 4096x2160@60 Hz plus my old monitor (Kogan 27" Cinema Display) at 2560x1440@60 Hz. I have a GTX 760 to run it. I won't be gaming. According to NVIDIA, it can run 4096x2160@60 Hz over DisplayPort, which I have successfully tested with only the LG connected. However, when I connect the Kogan over DVI, the LG defaults to 3840x2160@30 Hz and the Kogan runs at 2560x1440@60 Hz. Playing around with custom resolutions in NVIDIA Control Panel, I was able to achieve 4096x2160@51 Hz + 2560x1440@60 Hz. Is there something wrong with my setup? Should my GPU be able to run 4096x2160@60 Hz + 2560x1440@60 Hz, or is there some sort of bandwidth limitation, even though both resolutions are below the GPU's max? If there is a bandwidth limitation, how would you quantify it? Would a GTX 1050 Ti be able to do what I want? Thanks

I bought an HDMI to DVI and 3.5 mm audio jack converter (little square box, power in, HDMI in, DVI out and audio out) and the video works just fine, however the audio does not work and doesn't even show up in "playback devices" in Windows (I'm running it through a GTX 750) When I plug headphones into it, I do hear a pop, so it is powered, but not producing sound. What do I do? The thing was 20 bucks!

I have two desktop PCs running Windows 10 Pro. I have two monitors which have two inputs, HDMI and VGA. I have my primary PC connected to both monitors, the primary monitor runs HDMI from the PC to HDMI to the monitor (the cable is HDMI both ends), the secondary monitor runs DVI from the PC to HDMI to the monitor (cable is DVI one end and HDMI on the other). Each monitor has an input switch to switch from VGA to HDMI channels (the input button). On the secondary monitor it stays on the HDMI channel all the time, since that is its only job. The primary monitor has the second PC hooked up to it as well, VGA from the PC to VGA on the monitor. I have been using the input switch to switch from the HDMI channel (primary PC) to the VGA channel (the secondary PC) on the primary monitor. It was working great. Then I installed a graphics card (an XFX AMD RX 480), and now when I hit the input button on the primary monitor, it goes to the second PC as expected, but when I hit the input button to switch back to the primary PC, it doesn't detect the signal anymore. I have to either unplug the cable from the graphics card and plug it back in, or hit win+P and select "extend display" to make it comes back (this, however, causes all my desktop icons to be rearranged every single time, so it is very unusable). HOWEVER, this is only when the second PC is ON, when the second PC is OFF, the input button still works fine, I can switch to the VGA channel and back with no problem. I am running DisplayFusion to customize the taskbar on the secondary monitor and add some pop/resize functions to my explorer windows, but I do not use DisplayFusion to manage the monitor setup (I use the built in Windows tool to manage my secondary display). This problem is VERY annoying, as it has made my formerly working set up totally inconvenient to use. When I go into the AMD control panel, it does have a section called Display, and it does offer to manage my monitors, but as far as I can tell I have everything turned off. That being said, something is definitely causing an issue in there, as it worked fine before I had a graphics card in the machine. What can I do to fix this?

Hi there First post on LTT, be gentle I'm trying to set up my primary monitor (Samsung S32D850) on the opposite side of the room, and am having almost no luck getting a good signal - let alone 1440p - with the cables I've tried so far: 10 meter DisplayPort cable = No signal 10 meter DL-DVI cable = No signal 2m DL-DVI + 2m DL-DVI-ex. = Bad signal, only 1080p 3m DP (PC) to HDMI cable = Good signal, only 1080p 3m HDMI (PC) to DP = No signal 2m HDMI cable = Good signal, only 1080p Is there some simple solution I've missed out on here? Are there any 'active' DP/DL-DVI-D cables better at reducing signal loss over distance? Should be noted I've set up a 10m USB2 and 7+2m active USB3 cable, and both are working properly. Any ideas? GPU: GTX1070 F.E. Monitor: Sammy S32D850 WQHD

PICTURES ARE BELOW Basically this was my system before. Core 2 Duo 1 x 2gb DDR3 Biostar G41D3C motherboard generic Mini-ITX case some ATI video output card 320GB HDD This system acted as my Karaoke machine. There were two ports on the ATI video card (see pics), one VGA connector and one yellow AV input (i believe is composite cable). When i turn on the system, it would turn on my monitor (only 1 VGA port) and load WIndows XP then the Karaoke software. Then I would switch my TV (3 x HDMI, 1 x AV) to AV mode. After I choose a song on the monitor, it would display the music video on the screen and via the audio cable from the PC to my amplifier then to the speakers. The music would thus play on the speakers. Now my ATI video card is spoiled. The video output would be totally corrupted. Here is the list of SPARE parts I currently have: 1 x MSI GeForce 210 graphics card (fully working) 1 x Zotac GTX 970 graphics card (fully working) 1 x HDMI to AV connector (fully working) 1 x Full screwdriver set 1 x Intel Core i7 3770 processor 1 x Intel Core i5 750 processor 1 x AcBel 400W power supply 1 x WD 1TB Caviar Black HDD 1 x Sandisk 16GB USB drive 1 x dual Molex to 6 pin connector 2 x Team Elite DDR3 2GB modules 1 x HDMI cable (fully working) 1 x male to male FULL AV input cable 1 x Cooler Master Elite 310 Casing Basically what I have done is since the current mITX case is too small, i put the motherboard into my CM case and plugged in the AcBel power supply cables, the hard drive, but changed the ATI graphics card to the GeForce 210 card (1 x HDMI, 1 x DVI, 1 x VGA). I plugged in the VGA cable to my monitor and the HDMI to AV connector into the HDMI port. I plugged the yellow AV cable into the connector. I also plugged the sound connector (the one the iPhone 7 doesn't have) into the sound IO on my motherboard's IO panel. There was no display. I tried it again, removing the VGA cable and my TV displayed the software albeit being slightly blurry. Removing the yellow VGA cable would also yield the same result, but it would be displayed on the monitor. I think the problem may be with the GeForce 210 card only allowing 2 displays but in this configuration (DVI and VGA), (HDMI and DVI) [according to NVIDIA forums]. I thought of using my GTX 970 (2 x DVI, 1 x HDMI, 1 x DisplayPort) but since my monitor only has one VGA port, it would be kind of useless. So, I knew I was in a pickle and had to either get a graphics card that supported dual display (HDMI and VGA) or do something else. Just before my ATI graphics card spoiled, I was planning to upgrade my rig from an i5 750 to an i7 3770 gaming console killer system. (This is why i have those parts and my GTX 970) My motherboard has not arrived yet but I was planning to build my system into the CM Elite 310 system and connect it via HDMI to my TV. However, can I take advantage of this situation and get my Karaoke to run off the same system? Basically, I would plug the HDMI AV connector into the HDMI port on my GTX 970 and the yellow AV connector into the respective slot. Then, I would get a DisplayPort to HDMI connector and plug the DisplayPort into the GTX 970. I would get another HDMI port and plug it from the DP HDMI connector to my TV HDMI input. Lastly, i would get a DVI/DVI-D to VGA connector so I can connect it to my monitor. I would plug in my audio connector from my amp to my new motherboard (Biostar H61MGV3) When I am loading Windows 10 to play games, I would just change the input on my TV to HDMI which is where my game would display. My monitor would act as the temperature monitoring panel. The audio would come out of my BMB speakers. When I switch to Karaoke mode, I just have to change my TV to AV mode (must i plug out the DP to HDMI connector?) and i will choose my song on the monitor and it would play on the TV. Audio from speakers again. If my understanding of ports are correct, this should work? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read this post. Pictures are below!

Hello everyone, I would like to ask You all for help. After a recent windows update i started having a problem with my second display. Whenever it's displaying content that is moving, like a video or just scrolling the browser, the screen starts to act weird - it tears, some kind of artifacts are showing up, it starts flickering. I've recorded what is happening here: My setup is as follows: FX6200 Msi R9 280x 4x4GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz Asus M5A97 Samsung 750 SSD Corsair VS 650W main screen: Iiyama ProLite E2409HDS over HDMI - this one works good 2nd screen: BenQ G2400WA over miniDisplayPort->VGA adapter. So far I tried: Swapping from my old DVI->VGA adapter to mentioned miniDP-VGA. For about an hour it looked like the problem was fixed, but it came back eventually. Using different VGA cable Does anyone have an idea how to fix it? Thanks for any tips! ~Illi

Started getting some artifacts on the monitor, top right corner horizontal lines flashing, black and white snow, sometimes green screen for a second, only in game or video playback, normal on desktop( no artifacts, maybe a bit lighter colors but not sure). Have two monitors connected, one on hdmi one on dvi (over dvi to hdmi adapter), artifacts shows only on the monitor that is connected to dvi , tried different monitors, only 1 monitor on dvi, different dvi port, still artifacts. Just 1 monitor on hdmi all works fine. Problem started the day i cleaned the pc, maybe connected cant see how. Looked online for clues: Bad cable-all works well on hdmi port with the same cables, Driver- all works on hdmi, still clean installed different driver same story, DVI port died/dying- both dvis?, Graphic card dying(Bought maybe less than 6 months ago)- would it work on hdmi but not on dvi, The one i don't understand something about PSU ground lead( I don't know maybe someone can explain), and the one i suspect bad dvi-hdmi adapter.( ordered new one before i thought anything else could be wrong) Anyone have an idea what could be the problem, everything worked fine for the past months since i bought new graphic card and psu.

Howdy, LTT community! Is screen tearing dependent on the type of video input cable used? ---or--- Is one cable better at mitigating screen tearing than another(all things held equal)? Also would screen tearing suffer from use of adapters (like from HDMI to Display port)? (Any data would be great to support claims) Thanks!

Hey Guys, As i bought a new gpu(Zotac 1060 6gb amp) last month i also got a new Monitor(Dell S2216H). But recently i started the need of a 2nd monitor and hence i decided to add my old monitor to my setup (Lg E2041). My card has 3 display ports, 1 hdmi and 1 Dvi-i. I used a Dvi-i to vga converter to connect the new Lg monitor. Well my system can detect it, as in the photos below, and the screenshot shows that the gpu is displaying on the 2nd monitor(Lg) too. But on the screen it shows D-Sub and enters to power saving mode. Can you guys help me how to get the display on the 2nd monitor too? A guy from one of the shops said to me that the Zotac 1060's Dvi-i port can only be used if i use a Dvi-i to Hdmi converter and hence suggested me to buy a new monitor with a Hdmi or Display Port input. Well right now i cant buy a new monitor as i recently upgraded my whole system. Guys thank for your help in advance.

Hello everyone, I have got my first computer and im encountering a problem which is bothering me. Once i press the power button the fans start working and everything lights up but whenever i press the monitor's "on" button the asus label shows and then proceeds to tell me DVI no signal. After that, the power button on the monitor which used to be blue turns red-orange and then nothing happens. I have already tried connecting the DVI cable to both mobo and GPU several times and I have repetitivly pressed the del button to try to open the BIOS. Note: I havent installed windows yet but even if i wanted, i cant since i cant see anything

Okay so, I have been having an issue lately where my display outputs randomly die when playing games or watching a video in chrome. When this happens my monitor says no connect/display and no matter what connection I try, I can't get the display back without a hard shutdown and reboot. Just a note: My GPU is it in the 4x slot on my mobo due to the 16x slot causing major screen glitching into BSOD. Currently, I am doing some testing by using the balanced power plan, from high performance, and I also disabled hardware acceleration in chrome. So far no issues have popped up, but I expect them to continue. If you have any suggestions on what I should add to my testing please do let me know. My dvi wont show display on my monitor after initial boot up. It will display until the log in screen is brought up then it will not show anything and will go into hibernation. i have had this issue with two monitors of the same resolution. Yet when i plugged in my tv through hdmi it worked flawlessly. All help and suggestions will be appreciated and thank you in advance.

Alright, so my computer is being odd. It will show that my computer is loading up Windows on the monitor, then the monitor loses all signal and falls asleep but the computer is still working. I know it is still working because I plauggef it into my tv and it displayed the log in.

Sup folks, I seem to have fried the HDMI connector on my graphics card whilst cleaning, but the DVI connector is fine. Now, will DVI-A run 1080p @60Hz? Thanks in advance, Cheers, TJ

Hello. I've been experiencing an annoying problem and I'd like to see if anyone here can help me get it solved. The scene usually plays out like this: I'm playing a game like NBA 2K17 or Overwatch. At seemingly random times during gaming, the game will freeze and both of my monitors disconnect from my computer. (I could be on my fifth consecutive round of Overwatch or my twenty-fifth, It could occur after one game of NBA 2K17 or in the rosters menu after a few games. Sometimes it never happens at all and it tricks me into thinking the problem went away) The sound still plays perfectly fine through my speakers/headphones. The on-screen prompts from the monitors appear with the usual "no input detected" message. After maybe 2 seconds, they both turn right back on like normal but the game crashes. Eventually, I came across a few more weird attributes of this problem. Firstly, I was playing Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (for ol' time sake) when the issue happens here. The "weird" part was that the game didn't crash whatsoever. My monitors came right back on and the game was as functional as it had been before. Secondly, I noticed that the issue with the monitors is a common issue with overclocking a GPU. I actually tried an underclock to see if that was an issue at all. The issue still persisted. I ran at stock everything for a bit. The issue still persisted. Any advice or questions about this issue would be greatly appreciated. I'd love to get this solved asap so I can play my games without a fear of losing save progress or gaining penalties from the game thinking me leaving is intentional. Specs below. Thanks! So I'm about to get a gtx 1070 and the one I was looking at is the g1 gaming from gigabyte. It has 3 display ports, one hdmi, and one dvi. I run 2 1080p monitors by acer. Apparently the monitors only have dvi and vga. I can't find the specific monitor but its similar to this one http://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/model/UM.FG6AA.B01, except it's 24 inch, 60hz, and subtract the hdmi port. Would I be able to use a display port to dvi? Would there be any performance difference? Would https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Gold-Plated-DisplayPort/dp/B004C9M7UG be good enough?

Hello! Today I am stuck with quite the predicament, and I would love to be able to have some assistance and possibly not waste 180$ on a 144hz monitor. I recently bough a 144hz monitor off newegg, this monitor being the Acer GN246HL. I had bought it on sale for 180$ last week. It arrived in perfectly fine condition, but there is one rather major issue. I had not done significant research and assumed that given the monitor is relatively high end compared to most monitors, that it would come equipped with a Display Port input. I was mistaken, and taken aback upon realizing, with dread, that the only way to get the monitor to display the advertised 144hz was to use DVI (The monitor also supports VGA and HDMI inputs, but with a max refresh rate of 60hz). This would not have been an issue if I did not order two of these monitors. My GPU (EVGA Geforce GTX 1080 FTW) only hosts one DVI port, alongside 4 DPs (Display Ports) meaning that I would not be able to run both monitors at 144hz through DVI. My original thought was "No worries, I'll just buy a DP to DVI adapter". So after spending 10$ and waiting 2 days for the long awaited adapter to arrive, low and behold, the adapter does not support the 144hz and I am still stuck with 60hz. If any of you have any creative solutions to such a problem or could supply me with a link to a 144hz supported DP to DVI adapter I will reward you with a 0.03$ skin in CSGO. 8) Thank you, -Mince
