Hi all, I a m planning to build a new PC for gaming/work in a server chassis to put it as far away as possible from my office. For that, I am planning to buy motherboard with Thunderbolt3 support and displayport passthrough capability. I will connect my PC to a Thunderbolt 4 dock with a Corning Thunderbolt 3 optical cable. I haven't really decided what specific mobo or TB4 dock I will use, but I have a general question: can you game normally on a setup like that (PC->Dock) just like you would on a regular gaming PC in front of you or you would get performance deterioration? Lets say I will use something like RTX 4070 Ti and I would pair it with one 2k 144Hz monitor. So will Thunderbolt connection ruin my gaming experience or will it be just fine and I wouldn't notice any lags/stutters/etc.? P.S. Will my PC be able to wake up from sleep mode in this configuration if I tried to wake it up using peripherals connected to the dock? Thanks in advance

I'm looking for a dock for my laptop, its a Asus Zephyrus g14 from 2021. This has a "USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C support DisplayPort™ / power delivery / G-SYNC" For the life of me I can not figure out what kind of dock I should be looking for. I have 2 displays: A 1440p 165hz g-sync And a 1080p 75hz ultrawide Also i would like to plug my peripherals into it (mouse and keyboard basically). I just need some guidance in what type of dock can fit this requirements. Usb names got me very confused:( If more info is needed please ask me, I'll answer as soon as im available. Thank you!

Hi there, I have a work laptop and my personal laptop. Both are Lenovos and I work with a dual monitor setup, exchanging the thunderbolt cable when I want to use one over the other. I'm wondering if there's a KVM setup that'll work with my existing docking setup (Lenovo), something like two thunderbolt cables going into a KVM then into the dock. Does this exist? Or is there another way of accomplishing this? It'd be nice to toggle between both setups easily. Thanks

Hi all, I have a bit of a conundrum i could use some advice on... I currently have a PC desk setup including two monitors (one at 144hz, both 1080p) and the other usual peripherals (keyboard, mouse etc) that i use for both gaming and remote work. My employer has issues laptops for us to use from home and is no longer supporting BYOD via Citrix for remote access. Is there any solutions out there for me to switching between the two setups and use the same peripherals and monitors?? Notes: - the PC has a discrete gpu - The laptop is a Surface Laptop 4

I just ran into a strange problem and I am looking for some advice. I recently purchased a Razer Core X egpu enclosure to use with my laptop. I have the i9 version of the Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Ultra which does have a laptop 4070 in it which is really nice but it only has 8gb of vram. I have a 3090 that was in my prior computer so I got the egpu enclosure so that I could take advantage of the extra vram for simulations. I bought the enclosure off of ebay and it appears to be in good condition and it was packed very well. It arrived yesturday so I put my graphics card in it, fired it up, plugged my laptop in, and then recieved bad news. When the egpu is connected, the nvidia driver (which is up to date) seems to crash. My whole system starts to lag, I can't open windows settings, I can't open the nvidia control panel, and my laptop fan goes to maximum. I checked device manager and the intel graphics, 4070, and 3090 are all detected. The properties on the 3090 says it works fine but it definitely doesn't and I don't have any display output though it. The 4070 says that windows can't access the driver. Win+ctrl+shift+b does flash the screen but has no effect. I assume that is because the intel graphics are running the display so it doesn't actually restart the nvidia driver. I tried rebooting and restarting the nvidia driver through task manager but neither did anything. When I unplug the egpu and even if I reboot the 4070 has the same error. The only way I have fixed it is by uninstalling the nvidia driver. Sometimes when I reboot after the uninstall, the driver is magically back and working but other times I have to reinstall the driver manually and that fixes it. Any ideas? I am really lost here and any input would be really helpful. Also, I am using a 3ft usb-c 240watt 40gbit cable. Strangely, when I plug it into my laptop, I also get a windows notification saying I would get faster charging if I plug into a faster charger. I thought this enclosure was supposed to put out 100 watts which is what my laptop takes so I am confused why it isn't getting that. Do I have a bad cable? I don't have any faster cables and this one was fine with my 10gbit ssd but I guess 40gbit is a lot more than that. Is that the potential source of error is there something else I should check?

I'm using a ASUS Vivobook Pro 14X OLED (N7400, 11th Gen Intel) and have been trying to look for a thunderbolt dock that can a power my laptop fully (it takes 120W) and drive 2x 4k Monitors ( including usb ports for my keyboard, mouse, ethernet and maybe an sd card reader ) and i can only find one from HP. I then googled and found out it seems to be because thunderbolt only supports up to 100W but why then does HP have a dock supporting 120W and will i brick my laptop ifi use something that exceeds the spec of the standard does anyone have any suggestions? I'm completly new to this and i could really use some help, thanks for reading

Hello everyone! I recently bought an Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 laptop with the AMD chipset which doesn't support thunderbolt for some reason. That being said, I want to purchase some kind of easy, one-cable solution to plugging my 1440p 240Hz monitor (and use as close to it's full capabilities as I can, plugged in preferably through displayport 1.4), a keyboard (USB-A), headphones (USB-A), a microphone (USB-A), some kind of charging higher than the power consumption at load, maybe speakers (USB-A) and a mouse (USB-A) and an ethernet cable that works well with USB-4 (apparently it's flakey with thunderbolt devices even though thunderbolt is in the spec). Do you guys have any suggestions for a dock that would work for me?

Hi, I got a 5120x1440 120hz 49' ultrawide monitor and want to connect it to my M1 macbook pro. Im looking for a USB Dock that supports the monitor at its max resolutions and frequency. A dock that also has a few usb 3.0's and usb-c's, supports charging via the dock and has SD card reader. Is there anyone that can recommend me one? Help is much appreciated. Thanks

Hi all ! I just treated myself with a MSI Katana 15 B12VGK and I'm now looking at the docking options. I'm not looking for anything crazy as it will be hooked to just one ultra wide monitor in either DP or HDMI but the price range goes from 50 $ to hundreds. Is there a true added value ? Any reliable "one model fits all" kind of thing ? Or is it just to look for the IO needed and that's it ? Thanks for your help !

Hi, I currently have 2 laptops(m2 macbook air, razer blade stealth) and I'm using a this belkin docking station for one cable setup as it can support dual display for the mac: https://www.belkin.com/usb-c-dual-display-docking-station/P-INC002.html I am planning on selling my razer laptop and building a pc. I would like to keep the one cable setup to switch between the computers. I am planning to use a thunderbolt card for it with GPU pass through. My current setup works fine even in games with no drop, but I am not sure that it will handle the higher graphics in games with the new pc as this dock is USB-C 3.1(probably gen 1.) not thunderbolt. Any opinion? I have 2 1080p 60hz displays. Thanks.

I'm looking for a hardware solution to use the same peripherals (mouse, keyboard and webcam) and dual monitors for my work laptop and my windows desktop. The laptop has 2 USB-C ports. I've looked online and can't find a single solution (ie. Need to buy both a dock and a KVM switch). Also from what I've read, DP is better than HDMI for NVIDIA GPUs (coz of GSync compatibility) Looking for something between $100-$250 price range (idk if that's realistic) 1. Is there a good option that can have a single USB-C input for the laptop with compatibility with the desktop? If not what's the best dock and KVM switch combo? 2. Is my conjecture that DP better than HDMI correct for my use case?

Hey, Looking for advice to acheive this setep. Currently I have two spaces in my home, one for work laptop and one for personal/gaming. I want to merge into a mega desk setup. I need a hub that I can have my main desktop always plugged into, and another USB-C cable free to plug in a portabal device. And be able to toggle between the two devices, so basically like a KVM... As I have a Mac, DisplayLink technology is not really an option. The driver support is bad! Probably Apple's fault haha. Much rather native support like a simple USB Hub does. But from what have read, "Alt Mode"? is ok? I have done research, however I havent been sold on anything. Either not enogh product info, or uses DisplayLink. Work provided me with this -> https://www.wavlink.com/en_us/product/WL-UG69PD2_WL-UG69PD2_Pro.html Its fairly mediocer, half the time devices stop working after waking from sleep. And as it used DisplayLink, its a pain in the ass on Mac. Thats why I am after something more native. Just a Roided up USB-C hub basically with x2 device options I thought to make things easier, and broarden the options. I could have a Dock and KVM seperate. The USB-C output of the dock woult go into the KVM and the KVM would have x2 USB-C outputs. But I am not sure of that will start bringing in possible complication with all the passthrough. The device support is already a tall list haha. The list of peripherals USB-A KB / Mouse USB-A HeadSet USB-C WebCam DP 4k Monitor - It can go upto 144hz for gaming, but willing to hang up the cape and say goodbye to competitive FPS gaming if it means I can bring all me devices together. HDMI 1080p monitor x2 USB-C Drawing table/screen (optional) AUX Speaker (otpional) Optical cable (optional) boosts my headset quality but not required Spare USB input for randome things like game controller or thumb drive. (optional) USB-C 100w power passthrough for portable diveces (optional) Devices Battle Station - Windows Desktop Dev Laptop - Mac M1 Air Work Laptop - Lenovo Thinkpad Thanks

Anyone use a OWC Thunderbolt Pro dock? Im trying to run the dock with two monitors, one 4K 60Hz, and one 1440p 60Hz (An Artist 24 Drawing screen - so uses a USB port as well), as well as 10gB ethernet, a RodeCaster Pro 2, and then a powered USB Splitter, using a webcam, StreamDeck unit, and Wireless PC and mouse. When I plug my Mac in, not all the monitors will work, and I get a message in OSX about there not bring enough power to run the USB peripherals. Trying to run this through one Thunderbolt 4 port. Thoughts? (And thank you)

I dont know what are docks used for, and this port I dont have clue what is it? Nothing similar on my PC. Lenovo ThinkPad OneLink+ is model.

Hi everyone, I have a Dell Latitude 7400 and I am using with a Dell P2418d monitor and having multiple cables connected to the laptop stated to annoy me so I've decided to buy a docking station for them. I've been searching for some nice docking stations and I found the Dell WD15 and the Dell TB16. These two seem to be great but I wonder if they will work fine with both my monitor and laptop. Altough, I've checked Dell's website to see if these docks support Win11 and I found out they don't so this got me curious if I buy one of them, will they work fine under Win11. So I would like to ask you if could these docks work fine with my devices and under WIn11?

Apologies for the long title! Could someone please confirm the following for me please, - will this Dock allow detection of the peripherals aside from "standard" so that they can be used with their own software (non-Razer) ? (Logitech G Pro Mouse, Keyboard, Headset) - will it be enough to power the above, plus a GoXLR Mini with a r0de PodMic and allow the correct detection? - does the Dock support 1080p/240Hz? Longer story, - I just bought a Razer Stealth with a 1650TI and the 65W power supply is not enough when using Sandboxie for multiple (RaidSL) game instances (battery drains slowly) - the dock above can delivery 90W to laptops; - thinking of buying a Blade 14 AMD RTX3070 to replace my main desktop in the man-cave but I need more connectivity (2x monitors through DP, GoXLR Mini, 2x Logitech Mice, 1x Logitech Keyboard (might prefer over the laptop one). In this scenario, both the laptop charger and the Dock will be plugged to the wall. If someone can suggest a cheaper dock but doing the same or better and not massive size, in the UK, please go ahead Thank you

Hi, I'm trying to come up with a way I can mount my two Dell docking stations (WD19S & D6000) to the back of my monitors to clear up space on my desk and shorten the cables I need. I saw Dell sells a docking station mount which screws into the vesa mount on the monitor however this does not appear to be compatible with either of my docks. I then had the idea of using velcro or magnets, I'd prefer not to tarnish the back of my monitor by sticking a adhesive velcro strip to the monitor itself so I'm looking at getting either Dells dock mount or a third party one and sticking magnets or velcro to the mount and dock. I'm just not sure if magnets being that close to the monitor will have any adverse effect but I doubt it will. I was thinking about getting these magnetic strips or these magnetic dots which I hope will be strong enough to hold the docks

Hi there everyone, I own a MacBook Pro with M1 Pro and I would like to buy a thunderbolt 4 dock for it. The big requirement that I have is that I need to support my Samsung Odyssey G9 that has a 5k resolution and 120hz support (well it can go up to 240hz, but I doubt that mac/macOS support it). I was looking at CalDigit (I saw some review on LTT youtube) but it seems that at least from their marketing specs they do not support 120hz (only 60hz). The monitor is currently connected directly through a DP-USDC cable, and it seems to support correctly 120hz on macOS. Could you please suggest me some thunderbolt 4 dock that support these requirements? I don't need something with many input/output like the CalDigit TS4, but the ELEMENT HUB would be more than fine.

I currently have my computer in a 4RU rack case on one side of my room and my displays, keyboard, mouse and boom mic which uses USB on the other side. Instead of running multiple long cables across the room I wanted to just run one USB-C cable from my computer to a dock where I can plug in all my peripherals. Note: I have 2 x DisplayPort monitors which run at 144hz. Firstly, is there such a thing? I know Linus does this using fibre. Secondly, what product is recommended to achieve this set up?

Hardware: Lenovo ThinkBook G2 ITL i5/mx450 USB-C dock SSK SC200 (worked for 4 months before the update) 2 Lenovo S24e-20 monitor attached with HDMI to the dock Problem: I was in a Teams call, Lenovo Vantage did an update for driver, saw the audio driver updating and they stopped working , same as the 2 monitor. So i did a reboot (Vantage was asking for it). From this update the display stopped working with the USB-C dock, they display in windows setting but grayed out and in advanced setting says "Display 2 not active " "Display 3 not active". They work plugged directly in the notebook or with USB-C -> HDMI adapter What i tried Updating or downgrading Nvidia and Intel driver, checking I/O , Thunderbolt, chipset driver. I tried with another laptop same model, same result. Even in intel graphics software i have the option to "activate" the monitor but nothing happens. Also tried to clean "monitor history" in regedit.

Overall rating for this dock: 3/5 I bought this Dock for my 2019 16" MacBook Pro. The main concern I had going is was knowing if this dock was capable of running 2 external displays and charging my laptop that came with a 96W charger at only 65W. The answer is yes. But be warned, a few things I did not expect is that this dock is very loud and a 16" MacBook Pro can consume a lot of power under load. Let's discuss. To get 2 displays off this dock all your displays must be DisplayPort. I connected my main display over native DisplayPort and my other display off a Type C to DisplayPort cable. This setup works and I can set both displays to their native 1440p resolution and144Hz refresh rate. I tried to use a Type C to HDMI cable and that did not work, the Thunderbolt spec will only do DisplayPort natively, so you must use a Type C to DisplayPort Cable. Don't try to use any Type C to HDMI/USB hubs or DP to HDMI/C to HDMI cables off the rear thunderbolt port, they won't work. Also note, a 20Gbps Thunderbolt 3 cable, often found in 1m cable sizes, cannot drive 2 displays, you must use a 40Gbps cable and the included one is only 0.5m. As for charging, this dock will charge my 2019 16" MacBook Pro, but it does so only at 65W which is slow and is 31W less than my MacBook Pro wants to charge with. The important thing is that the MacBook is not having to use battery power to supplement insufficient wall power, granted this may occur if you're using the CPU and GPU together in a demanding workload, but I don't think the concern is very high. As long as you power your other accessories off the dock, and not your laptop, you should have no issues with charging and the longevity of your laptops battery. (Note: on further testing, running a Parallels Windows 10 VM can cause my MacBook to use battery for supplemental power. I recommend using your laptops included charger for demanding workloads.) Now for the noise, this dock is equipped with a blower fan, something I've not heard of with other docks. This makes perfect sense though since this dock can house 2x M.2 drives. Those drives, plus all the power delivery, and controllers means that this dock will get warm if you start to push it. I attempted to cover up the intake and exhaust vents on this dock with tape, which removed the "whooshing" of the fan but left the high pitch whine of the fan motor spinning. Pick your poison, but I think leaving it the way it is is a more pleasing sound than just high pitch whining. This fan is why I give this dock 3/5 starts. I suggest turning on the AC, wearing headphones, or playing some music over your laptops speakers. At half volume, my MacBook Pros speakers fully drown out the fan noise. I recommend unplugging this dock when not in use to save your sanity. Overall, this is a powerful dock for the price (I got it on Amazon for ~$230). The loud fan puts a real damper on what would otherwise be one of the best docks on the market. I would recommend it for the price if you accept that you're gonna have to unplug it while not using it and that while working you're gonna want some headphones or music to drown out the sound. I hope this review was helpful, its hard to find comprehensive information on this dock online so I figured I'd buy it and provide it.

I got a new laptop and it no longer works with one of my screens. The device is a HP ZBook Fury 15 G8. Windows 10 Professional (19042) 64 bit BIOS: HP T95 Ver. 01.08.01 Intel i7-11850H NVIDIA Quadro T1200 4GB Docking Station: HP Thunderbolt Dock G2 It is connected to two screens: Asus VG240Y V (via Docking Station, Displayport) Dell P2416D (directly via HDMI) The Asus screen stays completely black, but is detected. There is no "check cable" error or anything, it looks all good except that it is black - I can also move applications to it but obviously cant see them. Both Windows and Nvidia controls are able to detect the screen (with the correct model descriptor, specs, etc.). The cable, screen and docking station are the same that I used with the other laptop (HP ZBook Fury 15 G3). The screen also works with my desktop computer (also connected via DP, same cable but AMD graphics card). It is a VEGA-verified DP 1.4 compatible cable. When connecting the screen via HDMI, it works, but sadly I only have a single HDMI slot. I have tried other screens (with other DP cables) which work as expected. It appears like my screen is not compatible with my new laptop - but is that even possible? Why could a screen be incompatible? I updated to the latest Nvidia Quadro drivers and updated the docking station software. Any help is much appreciated as I really don't know what else to try. Thanks! EDIT: I tried to connect both screens at the same time with HDMI. One directly to the laptop, the other one with a USB-C dock that goes into the docking station. The same symptoms but now with the other screen: It is black but does not show connectivity issues and is detected.

My current PC is almost 10 years old and starting to have some issues. I'd like to upgrade/replace it but I'm having difficulty deciding with what. I'm currently working as a software developer, and I'll be going back to school next semester. I'd ideally like to have some sort of laptop for school and potentially work (not as necessary). I used to play a games a lot more but now I pretty much just play League or Elden Ring on occasion. I like the idea of using the same computer across the board rather than switching between a laptop and desktop, but for the price of a lot of laptops I feel like you sacrifice quite a bit of power compare to the price of PC components. My primary use cases are: software development, Unity game development, Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, & After Effects, light gaming My current build: i7-4790k RTX 2070 16GB DDR3 1TB Samsung 860 Evo + 4TB & 1TB WD HDD I was considering either a Surface Pro 8/Surface Laptop + a docking station or: i7-11700k 32GB DDR4 Crucial P5+ SSD RTX 2070 (keep the same one) + a lower spec laptop, but not really sure on what would be good here Any recommendations on a PC upgrade + laptop, or pure laptop would be greatly appreciated as I'm struggling to decide. Thank you!
