I'm searching for a new computer that can handle my work, that goes from light usages such as consuming content to a little heavy such as 3D programs like AutoCAD and relatives. No big chunks or macOS system. I'm an usb-c charger type of guy. For consuming content, I mean playing movies with a decent screen resolution and a high peak of brightness, so it would be nice to have a resolution more than an FHD, and technology like OLED or WLED, hoping to find a screen with a 120hz refresh rate. As for the little heavy part, I'm graduating in dentistry, so I need a laptop that can handle 3D models of facial scans and so on, and, maybe, a bit of gaming sometimes, using Xbox GamePass. In other words, I would like to buy a laptop that would not limitate my ideas and creativity, that can need even a screen with touch input, with a good longevity investment. My choices by now are very poor and problematic because I'm stuck with laptops that have everything, but lack one or two points. Here they are. Dell XPS 17: I'll buy it maxed out, so with i9 and 4080. This means that I'll get a nice specs laptop, nice speaker, good upgradability, good battery life thanks to its 97wh capacity, with touch input screen, but not so bright or colour accurate as I want, and also stuck at 60hz. Nice investment though. Galaxy Book3 Ultra: Best consuming content laptop, thanks to its OLED panel and 120hz refresh rate, even if it's not touching capable. Nice workspace thanks to the Samsung environment (i got an S21 Ultra), decent graphics as it is configurable with a 4070, and poor upgradability (only SSD is replaceable). The problem here is the less powerful GPU compared to the 4080, and less battery life. Surface Laptop Studio 2 (upcoming don't know when): If everything is right, it should be packed with i9 and 4060. Given the fact that it would be my best choice if they choose to equip it with a 4070, I'm forced to ignore it because a 4060 is very less powerful for my needs. But it’s wonderful for its screen clarity, touch input and speakers. Oh, and it even has the nicest camera compared to the previous two laptops, and a trackpad with a haptic sensor. Damn it. Do you all have any further suggestions to give me? I’ve run out of ideas, and I don’t like so much Lenovo or others. Maybe I could give it a try to ASUS, HP, but I’ve not seen a large battery in their laptop. Let me know guys, hope to receive a lot of ideas from you. Many thanks to you all.

New to this though racking my brain trying to figure it out. the setup, Dell Precision 5510 laptop. quad core i7. 16gb DDR4 Samsung 951 NVME, Dell supplied. windows 10 pro Build 14393. stock units basically. The issue at hand. it seems i am getting slow write performance. Other teams are seeing it on the same hardware and other than calling dell support to fake it and get a new drive to test i am not sure what else to do. I have run some SSD benchmark tools and they all come out the same roughly 1500mbps read. 300 write. installing windows takes 30 min almost now. or any app. the slow down is noticeable. I have tried different samsung NVME drivers, no luck Tried changing it from AHCI to Raid mode to use the Intel RST. no luck they have the same motherboard as the new Dell 15" XPS units. i am curious if anyone out there has the same unit or the late 2016 kerbylake Dell XPS 15 units with an PCIE ssd. curious what your speeds are. or if anyone has any tips on how to boost up speeds on it please let me know.

Hello everyone this is my first real post for myself after posting yesterday in the LTT Hacked topic. I could do with a little help please. I want to add a PCIE M.2 NVME adapter to my Dell Optiplex 7010 MT which is only PCIE 3.0 right? I have an RX 5600XT Mech OC 6GB GPU in the top slot so I have the middle small slot and the bottom full size slot left which would be X4 and X16 respectively I've learnt however I don't want to take anything away from the GPU i.e the lanes so I don't know what I should do I'm not great with this tech I've only ever used HDD and SSD and this MOBO doesn't have M.2 slots. Can anyone help me choose the correct adapter please and tell me if I'm stuck with certain drives please? Cheers guys n girls I appreciate it.

I currently have a dell t3500 workstation with a passive cooling head sink and w3503 xenon dual core 2c/2t CPU which has a 130TDP, I Purchased a x5670 xenon 6 core 6c/12t CPU. Which is a 95TDP My question is, can i use the stock W3503 130TDP cooler on the x5670 95TDP CPU. I am going to put a 80 or 90mm fan on the side of the cooler where it looks like one should fit perfectly. (ignore what looks like dust. It might be but its perma-dust. It doesn't come off. It might actually be corrosion i got the computer from a neighborhood friend for $3)

I have a Dell G3 3779 gaming laptop that has a power issue. It will blue screen booting into windows everytime while plugged into its charger. NEW chargers have been tried of the same wattage and it does it. But if you run it off battery, it works fine. The battery will charge as long as windows is not running, or while it is off. It will blue screen even while booting off a Windows 10 install usb. In bios, it states that its plugged in and charging the battery. In my 25 years of repairing computers, I have never seen this kind of failure. I have been searching online for a possible repair, or potential bad chip on the motherboard that I could replace but no luck so far. A replacement motherboard for this is OVER $500 considering that it has an 9th gen i7 and a 1050 ti Nvidia card. Anyone have any ideas on this? Would LOVE to fix this!!!

I have recently been assigned the task of updating my uncles business' computers and storage server. Their current computers are from 2013 and the server is from 2011 and this year they finally decided that the crashes made it so they couldn't work efficiently anymore. They have about 7 or 8 employees working there. For the new desktops I picked Dell OptiPlex 3080 Micros. I was between the OptiPlex 3080 Small Form Factor and the Dell OptiPlex 3080 Micro but picked the Micro because it was $10 cheaper per system and we don't need DVD drives so I figure why waste the extra space. Are these systems a nightmare to work on and should I pick the OptiPlex 3080 Small Form Factor instead, or will the Micro be ok? The new desktop specs are: i5, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD... For the server I picked a PowerEdge T340 Tower Server. Their last server was a T310 with about 4TB of storage and the Xeon processor from that year. I don't know what the exact specs are because I don't have access to the machine and they couldn't find the service tag. I am equipping their new server with 8TB (2x 4TB 7200rpm drives) of storage and I also wanted to equip it with 2 500GB SSD's as cache. I believe they will be using windows server because they use a program called quick books which will only run on windows server or on specific versions of linux. Now I know they could use VM's but I'm really not sure what to do. They have an IT guy and all I need to do is equip the server for him and the IT guy will take care of setting it up for me. The only thing is Dell has like 1,000 different options for the PowerEdge T340 and so I'm not sure if I should get the TPM module, do I need more threads or more cores or both?, is 32GB of RAM enough?, should I get the RAID card or the HBA adapter, do I need RAID, if so which version (0, 1, 5....), do I need to upgrade the iDRAC or will the basic one do, what is Microsoft SQL Server?, should i add any of the "keep your drive" or warranties on? I know some may be asking "Why Dell", and the reason is my uncle only wants Dell and I don't want to be their 24/7 tech support so we're going pre-built. Not to mention the lack of accessible parts. Any help is appreciated.

So basically my friend has a brand new dell laptop, since I wanted to play some games with my friend I got her to download steam onto it. But when she installed steam she had login issues. She knows a bit about tech but she is far from an expert so it is possible just a setting need to be changed to fix all of these issues. The video is trimmed so her email is isn't shared to the public, but when she clicks sign in a microsoft account window pops up and she has to put in her microsoft account password VID-20210311-WA0001(0).mp4

Hello, I was wondering how to unlock that power draw.. The PSU is not that crappy proprietary 80W stock Dell power supply. It is a new, standard and modular one. It is the Corsair SF450 which can supply 450W. The CPU draws 73W so that leaves a little power for the rest of the computer. Does anyone know how to do that?

So, I got a Dell XPS 9500 after seeing the review of it and it had the trackpad wobble issue so I contacted support and they sent someone to replace the palm rest/trackpad assembly. The thing is ever since they "fixed" it the charging indicator light has stopped working. Even after having to send it to their depot for other issues, the light still does not work. I decided to just check and see the guys at Dell just forgot to plug the light back in so I took the back panel off my laptop to get a closer look at the indicator light and I found that it straight up isn't there. I tried looking up the issue and I found a few people on Dell's forum and on Reddit who seemed to have the same issue, but no one has been able to find a fix or get a straight answer from Dell about it. So I am just wondering, does anyone know anything about this? Has this also happened to you? Anything can help.

Disclaimer: The following report was first posted on Reddit here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/lj5qak/xps_13_display_issue_affecting_7390_9300_and_9310/ The following findings are published after being independently verified by other users of models 9310 (clamshell and 2-in-1), 7390 2-in-1, 9300. Please help me to spread awareness for this issue so that it gets attention by Dell. If you happen to own such a device, no matter if clamshell or 2-in-1 variant, please check in your own interest whether your unit is affected too and leave a comment! Feedback from both, affected and not affected users is highly appreciated, but please make sure you explicitly tried the outlined steps to reproduce. Short description of the issue: When the machine is connected to AC without the battery being charged and CPU and RAM are stressed at the same time the display brightness starts to flicker. Turning off turbo boost or limiting cpu frequencies to 3.3Ghz makes the flickering go away. As a consequence the issue does not occur when running on battery because the cpu frequencies are limited there. Disconnecting AC power solves the issue instantly. The flickering can be very subtle as well as very noticeable and according to feedback I got from other users it may be more or less intense depending on the AC adapter you use. This issue is not related to the operating system at all. It was reproduced across different 9310 2-in-1 units in Windows and Linux, as well as with the Diagnosis tool in the Bios (by running the ePSA memory test). Steps to reproduce in Bios (ePSA): The following steps to reproduce were tested on the 9310 2-in-1 and confirmed by other 9310 2-in-1 users, I have no feedback yet whether those steps to reproduce work as well for the 9300 and the 7390 2-in-1. Ideal prerequisites: Make sure you are in a low light environment and the screen brightness is low. This is not a strict requirement, but makes the problem more apparent. Also your device should not be warm, as thermal throttling could make the issue unreliable / hard to reproduce. Make sure Intel Turbo boost as well as Intel Speed Step are enabled on your device. Make sure your machine is connected to the original 45W AC adapter and battery is not charging. Start your Computer and press F12 to go into BIOS Select "Diagnosis" and immediately press Esc to abort it In the bottem left edge, select "Advanced Test" Untick everything apart from "Memory test" Start the test and watch out for display flickering. It can be very subtle at times, so watch closely, stop and start the test a few times if you don't see any flickering. Steps to reproduce in Windows and Linux: The following instructions may sound weird, but they are creating the perfect combination of cpu and memory utilization to trigger the flickering issue. Prime95's Large FFT stress test makes the display flicker as well in the first few seconds, but Google Chrome Webbrowser is better at triggering a workload where flickering occurs. Make sure Intel Turbo boost as well as Intel Speed Step are enabled on your device and you do not have any energy saving power plan in place that limits turbo boost. Make sure your machine is connected to the original 45W AC adapter and battery is not charging. Install Google Chrome Go to Settings / Advanced / System, untoggle "Use hardware acceleration when available" and relaunch Chrome Go to Youtube and play a 4K video like this one here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXb3EKWsInQ Set the video resolution to 4K (this increases memory and cpu usage and simulates a workload triggering the flickering) Scroll down to the comments so that you have a mostly white display background Observe the brightness of the display flashing / flickering. Videos of the issue: Reproduction of the issue in Bios can be seen here: https://youtu.be/VGofdkQ7iU4 Reproduction of the issue in Windows can be seen here: https://youtu.be/PeQfDFbaH3g Reproduction of the issue in Linux as well as the workaround limiting the cpu frequency to 3.3 Ghz can be seen here: https://youtu.be/bPtGS-1antE Workaround: Disable Turbo Boost in the Bios. If you are a Linux user, you can simply limit turbo boost to a maximum frequency of 3.3Ghz: cpupower frequency-set -u 3.3GHz Keep in mind, this is not persistent across reboots, so if you want to make this persistent place it in a startup script. Models affected: Please note: I have talked to most of the reddit users in this list to make sure they are indeed affected by the issue I described. XPS 13 9310 2-in-1: I own that model (i7, 16GB, FHD, Manufacture Date: 12/04/2020). Got my second motherboard (Manufacture Date: 09/30/2020) already and I'm still affected. Reddit user u/FaSuu is affected: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/la7lu1/new_2020_xps_13_2in1_after_3_weeks/gm3cvji/?context=3 Reddit user u/kaiser1025 is affected, got screen and motherboard replaced and still has the issue. Was so kind to confirm both the issue and the workaround. Reddit user u/aleksfadini was so kind to confirm both the issue and the workaround. XPS 13 7390 2-in-1: Reddit user u/Taylen137 has this issue, got the screen replaced as well as a replacement unit, all of no avail: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/ifegy0/xps_13_7390_2in1_slight_screen_flickering_when/ Reddit user u/frustatedclient11 is affected: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/kwm8wa/review_xps_13_2in1big_buck_little_bang/ Reddit user u/Firejay112 is affected and goth both screen and motherboard replaced, which didn't help: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/kwm8wa/review_xps_13_2in1big_buck_little_bang/gjabism?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3 Dell forum user "e19y82" has this problem: https://www.dell.com/community/XPS/Bug-Report-XPS-9300-screen-brightness-blink-flicker/m-p/7782999/highlight/true#M76816 XPS 13 9310: Dell forum user "ce123" (Reddit user u/undostres123) reports to be affected here: https://www.dell.com/community/XPS/Bug-Report-XPS-9300-screen-brightness-blink-flicker/m-p/7805687/highlight/true#M78802 and here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/kwm8wa/review_xps_13_2in1big_buck_little_bang/gmz1ufc?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3 XPS 13 9300: A real life acquaintance owns a XPS 13 9300 (i7, 16GB, FHD, Manufacture Date 01/02/2020) and never noticed any flickering, however I was able to trigger it by running a stress test and the steps to reproduce in chrome at the same time. It is quite hard to get that machine to boost to high frequencies but the flickering is there as soon as the frequencies are reached. Dell forum user "zrs5532" had this problem, got screen and motherboard replaced and finally got a replacement unit and nothing helped: https://www.dell.com/community/XPS/Bug-Report-XPS-9300-screen-brightness-blink-flicker/td-p/7640763 Dell forum users "manylander" and "TrueNorth17" also have this problem, see the same link as above. Youtube user "R Z" had this issue on his 9300 as well, see his comment under the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKRyV1ly1dg Analysis: The evidence so far suggests that all 9310 2-in-1 units as well as all 7390 2-in-1 units are affected by this issue (both FHD+ and 4K panels). Thanks to all the Reddit users who were so kind to verify the issue in a personal chat: u/aleksfadini, u/FaSuu, u/kaiser1025, u/Tylen137, u/Firejay112.

Hey Guys, I have a Dell T620 with a bricked iDRAC. With iDRAC not working, the server fans are constantly running at 100%. I've tried every thing in the book to recover iDRAC (SD card flash, "i" button, power drain, etc.). The internet-accepted fix seems to be purchasing a new motherboard. I'm not ready to spend USD$300+ on a new motherboard given that the machine is already so old. Since the server is only being used as a homelab, I was thinking that replacing the CPU heatsinks with a fan-attached third-party heat sink would suffice. I was wondering whether anyone has had success with replacing a homelab Dell server heatsink with a third-party CPU cooler. Any suggestions are welcomed.

Ok so I made this guide "h t t p s : / / w w w . r e d d i t . c o m /r/Dell/comments/kpaouc/g7_15_7590_uefi_unlock_undervolting_and_remove/" and after that I tried to mess around using grub to see if I could change xmp settings. everything was working until I accidently set the ram speed to 0x80 (128) instead of 0xC80 (3200). as of now its bricked with no way for me to flash anything to it using usb. I have a SOIC16 and I pulled the bios from the chip no problem. Bin files "h t t p s : / / d r i v e . g o o g l e . c o m /drive/folders/1o6JUnA4F3hk_MSbPdEwRt3_mzIrdZcLf?usp=sharing", I also have all the extracted files and the exe from the dell bios I am using "h t t p s : / / d r i v e . g o o g l e . c o m /drive/folders/1LFKL9dqLOIqaYr8uKNKP4TzcF_6lIsph?usp=sharing". What I am looking for is a anything to get it to boot as now it gets stuck flashing at me that it has no ram. Hell what would be great is a bios dump that I can flash over. Please any help would be loved, I cant do my job without this pc. I am willing to pay $20 to anyone who gets my pc working and $50 if they can do it while also unlocking hidden features in the bios or really just enabling xmp. (service tag is 4R73JX2) edit managed to flash the bios with a ic programer. all is working now, here is the file I used! https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_8gFnfmKP513v8O5kLUtdAGpVi1WPUti/view?usp=sharing

Hi all, I am looking to buy a new monitor around £300, and I am currently trying to pick from these two monitors - the Dell S2721QS and the ASUS ProArt PA278QV. Both are IPS 27 inch monitors, with the ASUS at 1440p and the Dell at 4K. Manufacturer Links: Dell 27 4K UHD Monitor: S2721QS | Dell UK (not in stock, but can still be brought over the phone) ProArt Display PA278QV|Monitors|ASUS Global RTings: Dell S2721QS Review - RTINGS.com ASUS ProArt Display PA278QV Review - RTINGS.com Uses: Video editing & basic graphics making (namely (print) posters for charity events) Programming Typing up documents Browsing the web & watching YouTube I do not game Both of these monitors are recommended by RTings for programming and video editing, though the Dell is seen as "better". The ASUS has also received a good review from PC Monitors (but the Dell is yet to be reviewed) I should note that I am currently running off of Intel HD 630 integrated graphics, but I am hoping to upgrade to a RTX 2060 Super from a friend when he gets a RTX 3000 series card (someday it'll happen!). Pros and Cons that I have also considered: Dell has HDR, but I don't game and have a TV for HDR content (and I rarely watch TV anyway) ASUS has better I/O - but I don't think I need it ASUS has better factor colour calibration; however, I don't do anything colour critical (mostly hobby video editing, sometimes for a YouTube channel) so I'm unsure if colour accuracy is important - but I do strive for high production quality when I make videos. I also can't afford my own colour calibrator. Dell is 4K - loads more screen real estate, but unfortunately, I've heard from a friend Windows' display scaling isn't that great, and I want to end up with more screen real estate than the 24 inch 1080p monitor I currently have. The Dell cheaper than the ASUS, however, I'd need to order directly from Dell and it'll take 43 days+ to arrive (the ASUS one is available from SCAN UK with presumably quick delivery) Overall, both look like solid monitors, however I'm struggling to decide, especially since it relies on factors that I don't have first-hand experience of - namely, how 4K at 27inch is like to use, how Windows scaling looks and if it is necessary at 4K/1440p and weighing factor calibration (which might not be that important for my uses) vs 4K. Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone, I'm in some sort of an impasse, my XPS 13 9370 (i7 8550u, 16GB, 4k display) hasn't seen any maintenance in about 2 years (it was my dad's and I bought it from him at half the price) and the temps have been getting higher, idleing at 50° and under light load at 60°. Now, of course I'm going to get rid of every possible bit of accumulated dust I see, but my main question is should I get the Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut for repasting the CPU or should I get the Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut liquid metal and give it a shot? (Also, I'll be switching the thermal pads from stock to Thermal Grizzly Minus pad 8's for better results)

Hi all, Was wondering if I could pick the brains on this forum about 1.8” Micro SATA SSDs… Recently completed a buyback from a customer who had Dell blades with 1.8” SSDs. This format doesn’t seem to be particularly popular in the enterprise world, so I’ve tried using a few adaptors/converters on eBay but the performance is woeful…talking 500kilobytes a second (write/read). Which is at odds with 6G SATA! The ideal solution would be to mount these in a 2.5” enclosure, which could be accepted in a standard PC or install a tray for a server. Does anyone out there know of a solid converter or recommend any action with this these?

Hello! I just ordered a prebuilt alienware R11 from Dell because It was the only conceivable way to buy a 3090. I didn’t realize however that the aircooled 3090 dell ships is the short bus version and has kinda not great thermal performance. Does anyone know of a waterblock that would be able to work with this card or a place that can make me a custom one?? (Im in West Coast USA) Thanks! :)
