build help Processor focused build Need Balance Help
Yo_Zack posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
I am currently putting together a list for my first PC build, I've learned a lot over these past few months and have my list now. I'm going for a processor heavy build as my main game is Planetside 2. I would like to be able to stream at least 720p with duh 60 fps. My price range is $1000 to $1500. I don't know if this build is well balanced as far as quality and upgradability is concerned. I'm thinking about upgrading for more RAM if prices do not fall before summer is over, upgrading my GPU if I ever want to play more demanding games, and switching to water cooling if I need it. I will be building it later this summer so no real rush. If anyone can give their insight on my first build, I would really appreciate it. Thanks -Zack -
Hey all, I'm starting a new position at the same company I work at soon and it will be based in essentially advertising. Im going to need to design a website, do some photo and video editing and what not. I use Adobe but wont be anything super intensive on it. The PC at work is just horrid and I don't want to spend my days just waiting around for everything on it. https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/greedygengar/saved/NN2ccf This is what I came up with, but I'm not super knowledgeable in the field so thought I should ask those who are. Could I shave couple more bucks here or there? Or would it just be useless to try. Thanks, so much everyone!

1. Budget & Location View list part, USA 2. Aim Light gaming, mainly programming with emulation. i7-8700k and 16GB ram is required. 3. Monitors 1-2 monitors: 1 at 1080p 144hz, 1 at 1080p 60hz No plans on getting any more currently. 4. Peripherals Already have. 5. Why are you upgrading? Switching the laptop my lil brother has to a desktop. I also needed an upgrade as i'm hitting 100% CPU utilization frequently and 80% average RAM usage on my i5-6500, 8GB RAM with programs open. Codes take a few seconds to input/show when I type, and UI becomes a bit unresponsive. (I had too many bad experiences with NewEgg and would prefer not to deal with them again) I currently own the Cryorig H7 and the Monitor. Cryorig is from the old build with i5-6500, not really necessary as a stock cooler is enough. I just wanted a quieter system. For the case, I just want a clean tempered glass case to look at with pretty lights. The NZXT seems to be the most popular. The 1050ti is for my old build as I'll be replacing the 1060 with this one. Link to the old build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/cTzYr6 Should I get an older gen GPU seeing as my brother will mostly be playing CS:GO? Then hopefully upgrade to a more modern GPU once the prices comes down? I'm mainly a bit uncertain about the Motherboard, Power supply, and SSD. I just filter out a Motherboard with good reviews that's compatible with my current build on PCPP with plenty of SATA ports and RAM slots to expand in the future. Same goes for the power supply. Is a 650W PSU enough for this build? I also will have at least 6 USB devices connected.

I am working with an online friend and helping him build his new PC. He got his parts yesterday, case, mobo, ram, cpu. He is using his hdd and psu from his old build. We unplugged his hdd and psu and installed it in his new computer. We did not format the drive when plugging it into his new PC, and when it boots. It only boots to BIOS and is not recognizing his drive. It recognized his flash drive in the USB port with Windows installer on it. In the bios is says that sata 0,1,2, and 3 are all "not installed". So is the problem that the sata drivers not installed. Or do we need to format the HDD and retry the windows setup. Currently when we try the windows setup it says there is no drive to install windows on. I was working with him all night yesterday to try and work it out, but can't figure anything out

Hi there! I'm trying to plan to make my first custom rig, and I have ideas, but I don't know how to go about making sure the rig I've planned will do what I need it to. I plan to do a lot of gaming and content creation, which is why I chose AMD over Intel. I like to stream and record my gameplay, the streaming happening on twitch, and the recordings going to YouTube {just for pleasure mostly}. But I also do a lot of digital art, both for pleasure, and to get better, since I want to get into the field of production art and animation {I'm going into college for it}. I like to play games from a lot of different genres, but my favorites are RPGs. I'm really hoping to get at least mid to hopefully high or even ultra settings in some of my favorite games like all the Fallout games, Skyrim, The Witcher 3, WoW, and Saints Row 3 & 4. I also do 3D modeling, rendering, and texturing in Blender, which I need supported as well. I've recently gotten into Fortnite a bit, so low to mid settings for that would be nice, but not a requirement, as I'm not super into it. I really only checked it out because I kept hearing about it everywhere and I wanted to see what all the hype was about. It's ok I guess, but it barely registers on my personal game radar. I live in the USA, my max budget for the components themselves is $2,500 but would prefer to keep it closer to $2,000 so I have extra room in the budget for a good 4k, non-curved, monitor, without having to save up more. The other peripherals I already have from either already ordering them, or from pre-builts I've had in the past. I currently only have a laptop, and am looking to get the rig and all its parts by the end of this year. I'm considering waiting to buy everything around Black Friday/Cyber Monday, since I heard that you can get good deals on parts around then, but I don't know. This is the build I've planned so far, critiques and tweaks are very welcome!! The case I'm pretty firm on though, same with the Blu-ray drive, since I still like to watch DVDs on the computer, and I mostly have Blu-rays these days. Everything else is flexible though! I'm a high school student on a tight budget and my PC rn has: An Asus H81M-D Mobo An Intel Pentium G3260 A 500 GB HDD which I believe is 7200RPM 4GB of DDR3 RAM, idc about its frequency tbh A 600 Watt PSU that comes with the case Some random Intex case that's Micro-ATX, no case fan rn An Asus monitor that goes up to 1366x768, but I really don't mind the look of 1280x720 on it. I'm in the Philippines and I have access to Lazada, some parts might be pricier here because... I have no clue. The PC has been serving me well for very very light productivity (I tend to avoid anything like video editing because it's legit painful to wait for everything to process on this PC) and games like League of Legends. My budget is 20,000 PHP, which is ~400 USD. If it helps, I'm looking to buy these things around Christmas. I'm looking to build this PC: The cheapest B350 mobo on Lazada goes for 4,799 PHP, it's a GA-AB350M-HD3 (91.75 USD) The cheapest listing of the Ryzen 3 2200G is for 6,079 PHP (116.21 USD) The cheapest 4GB DDR4 2400mhz RAM goes for 2,330 PHP (44.54 USD) and I'm looking to dual channel for better performance on the APU so that's 4,660 (89.08 USD) Alternatively, there's a bundle that goes for 10,299 PHP (196.66 USD) with the same mobo and CPU sooo... that's what I'm going for. I'm keeping the case, HDD and PSU. I'd use it for playing older AAA titles and light video editing and other productivity stuff (y'know, for school reasons). I might even dabble into some newer AAA titles on 720p very low graphics since I seriously don't mind what games look like. All in all, the upgrade is going to be 14,959 PHP (286.10 USD). Of course, there wouldn't be a sense in posting this if I'd already made up my mind, so the question is, is it worth it? And if it is, which one is more worth it? The aforementioned build, or one with a Ryzen 5 2400G in the place of the 2200G ? There's a bundle that goes for 12,999 PHP which is 249.11 USD with the same mobo. Everything stays the same except the APU. If you guys wanna suggest any alternatives, please feel free to. Thanks in advance.

I'd like to say thank you to all the helpful people who posted here with advice and answered my questions. I'll be using a Xeon processer, buying a new PSU, and getting the 750ti for a much better price thanks to your help. I'm building a new pc to make the switch from ps4 to pc master race with a few of my friends and need some advice on how to get a decent performing pc. Post summary- I need help figuring out what kind of cpu I can get for 30 usd to put into a gaming pc that will run decent until I get more money. Trying not to wait unless I absolutely have to. MOBO- I have an Asus mother board LGA 1156 socket that supports overclocking (Turbo Key) Asus P7H55 Desktop Motherboard H55 Socket LGA 1156 i3 i5 i7 DDR3 16G ATX UEFI BIOS GPU- I'm buying a used MSI 750ti 2gb GPU off of a friend for 100 usd, unless something better is suggested within that price range RAM- I'm stealing (6gb) 3 2gb ddr3 ram sticks out of an old pc I have, planning on upgrading to new 8gb/16gb sticks when possible Case- I picked up a basic DIY PC case that was on sale with 2 fans and ATX MOBO form factor PSU- Also stealing a 300w power supply from that same PC CPU- this is the main part that I need help with, I have a 30 usd CPU budget and I'm not sure how to go about buying one that will be capable of running games at, ideally 1080p stable 30/60fps (game depending) I also have a fan for whatever cpu I wind up with. There's a free geek about an hour away that I might try and go to but I'm not sure. Link to the old pc- https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01949155

ok so my little brother in laws bday is coming in a few month me and the wife decided it would be a great present to give him a decent gaming system so he could play his lego games and FNAF . so we decided we would upgrade my rig and give him my parts. i have roughly 1grand USD to work with as i will be getting a tax return. i am also getting a late christmas gift that was a surprise as i only recieved a photo of said gift on christmas day due to shipping errors. but i am getting a asus 1080p 144hrz 1ms 27inch free sync monitor. i need a new mobo, ram, cpu, gpu as i am upgrading from am3+ fx 8350, 970 pro gaming/aura, 2x8 ddr3,xfx r9 380x 4gig. i get to keep my case and power supply and ekwb supremacy setup and 1tb hdd current case is a core p3 thermaltake and psu is the corsair cx850x so i need help figuring out where to go with all this within my 1000 grand boundary i may be able to push maybe into 1100 keep in my instantly have to pay for a new OS so that still leaves around 1 grand. my system is for gaming and i will be running at 1080p id really just like to play games on mid to max settings i play some AAA titles such as witcher 3 but i also play alot of indie titles. was hoping to stick with AMD as i have been with AMD for cpu my whole life. i don't mind the nvidia card suggestions i owned a gtx 660 in the past and loved it. so suggestions links ect would be great. so if someone could help id really apprecaite it i have built before and i tend to make poor decisions. oh also RAM has to be RGB as to fit my build theme (whch wont be running rainbow unicorn but i like the color options as i change my liquid cooling loop around alot.) so yah help would be great need to figure this out and get it all purchased once i get the funds so i can hurry up and get my little brother inlaws rig put together for him i know he will love my hand me down rig as he is got some potato computer that can only play really old games can't even play FNAF he pretty much plays flash games all the time.(he is only like 12 years old and high functioning autistic ) he has been begging to play big budget titles and his FNAF that he watches youtubers play so much. And me and the wife would love to make his day and do this for him. so yah in the end this would help me make good choices for new parts for me and get my little bro a good system faster. Eveyone would be happy!

https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/fJVxyf This will be my first PC build but I am happy with everything I have chosen, except in PCPartPicker any CPU cooler I have chosen, it tells me there is an incompatibility with it. I am not sure why so I'm just coming here to ask if anyone knows the solution!

https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/greedygengar/saved/KXN2RB This is my first build. I don't really know too much about PC's, so I thought I will check to see if this build is ok before I make any decisions to buy things. I'm playing games like Doom, Fortnite, PUBG, Wolfenstein, Overwatch etc. Just looking for any feedback on it as I don't have great knowledge in the PC world! Thanks for any help, appreciate it! As a side note. I already own the Meshify C case and a 144hz monitor.

Hello I'm building my first PC and I was wondering if these parts were ok: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Ck94KZ I already have the harddrive. Its from my old computer but its on there for clarity. I do not plan on overclocking it (and I wouldn't know how anyway). Are there way better parts for around the same price? Is one of these parts horrible? Is the thermal paste ok? Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me!

https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/9fGTXH This will be my first ever PC build. Im using it basically only for gaming and I have been stuck on video card choice the past little while. I'm am a newbie and don't know a whole lot about PC's so I thought I should ask people who actually know what they are doing. I am stuck between the G1 1080 card or the Windforce 1080. I have a 1080 144hz monitor and I basically just want to run games at high res and smoothly, I doubt I will ever be pushing my computer to its limits much. So my question is, will I really notice a difference if I go down to the Windforce card, or do I just bite the bullet and get the G1? Really appreciate any help!

https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/88wj3F This will be my first PC build and it is just for gaming mainly. I am a complete noob to this world so I'm just looking for any sort of helpful feedback on the build. Im playing games like Fortnite, Rocket League, PUBG, Doom and few other games. Really appreciate any help! Thank you! Edit- Forgot to add I own a 144hz monitor and own Fractal Meshify C case

**Backstory:** I have recently completed an 8600K build and reused my EK 240L kit from my last build endeavor - a system that was 8 years old and upgraded one too many times, including this loop around 6 years in to push that system to the limit before retiring it. I transplanted this loop from a Fractal Design Define S into a Phanteks Enthoo Pro M SE. It did fit, although it isn't pretty. I currently have the res top mounted with fans in push. The case has a radiator bracket on top, and I will need to keep it there as the front of the case has great intakes and I would rather not clog them up with a rad. There are a lot of unique watercooling inspired features of this case, so I want to take more advantage of them with an upgrade. This system is stable with a 5Ghz OC @ 1.33V that hits close to 70-75C under p95 load and 60ish in games. I am delidding soon as I do not like these temps. I currently run all fans off of the Gigabyte Z370 Aorus Gaming 7 board's software controller, which isn't great, but mostly gets the job done. ------------- I am due for my yearly coolant swap, and while I'm at it, figured now is as good a time as any to upgrade the loop. Hardline tubing has peaked my interest lately, and I would like to ask for advice on how to best go about implementing in my existing circumstances. I would like to get a new pump/res, keep my Coolstream PE 240 Rad, flush everything and start anew, perhaps with hardline. I can change out just about anything here, but do need to keep things reasonable for cost sake, as I am only cooling the CPU and have no plans to do the GPU. I would like to keep tubing runs away from the GPU in case I upgrade before long. **TL;DR:** Should I keep a pump/res combo? Should I separate them? How can I incorporate a drain port? Is hardline worth it? Are temp/flow/fan control hubs or sensors needed for a CPU only loop? Do I need to buy all EK components? Is Primochill Vue a good idea? I really need some advice/recommendations on what to buy and where to start.

Intel Core i7-4790K goes for 270 dollars on ebay, Is that a good deal or should I go for Ryzen 1700? ( I edit 1080p video and play games in 1080p, If that helps at all) (this is in the future not right now but just curios what to do, Right now I have the i7-860 , so should I overclock that to 4ghz and be good ?

Hi there! I have been planning for a PC Upgrade with its main use for YouTube Content Creation which means heavy usage of Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro & OBS Studio. This is currently my build which I built in 2016. MoBo - Z170A XPOWER GAMING TITANIUM EDITION - MSI CPU - Intel Core i7-6700K @ 4.00GHz RAM - 2 x Corsair VENGEANCE LPX 16GB 3000MHz C16 DDR4 Graphics Card - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 I mainly want to have a workstation PC which can have very fast Premiere Pro Render times and allows me to record in high FPS+Bitrate in OBS even when I have 3 monitors active. I am not very familiar with newer parts but I have heard Ryzen is better for Content creation? In that case, will I have to change the motherboard? Also would you recommend SLI? I would appreciate the help, I am fine with high end parts. Thank you.

I am planning out a rig that will mostly be using for working from home (programming) and gaming. Since I exclusively work with Linux servers, I was planning on using Arch or Debian-testing as the base OS, using VMs/Docker to generate the Linux incantation I need for work (RHEL6/7 *ugh*), and using PCI-E passthrough for gaming through a Windows VM. I already have a i7-6700K (can still be returned) and 5 TB hard drive. Everything else is up for discussion. The Define Nano S is very appealing to me. The big issue is finding a mITX board. I would like to have a USB Type C port (future proofing and my phone is Type C), and a reliable network connectivity (read lots of SSH connections and file transfers). My options and opinions are as follows: 1. GIGABYTE G1 GA-Z170N-Gaming 5: + Type C port + Reasonable price. - DVI port (I can live with it, though) - Inconsistency in the drivers and performance of the Killer NIC. 2. ASUS Z170I PRO + Good set of features + Lots of expansion options + No DVI port - No USB Type C - ASUS warranty is awful. 3. ASRock Fatal1ty Gaming Z170 + Middle of the road between Gigabyte and ASUS - Consumer reviews are meh - Quality seems hit and miss 4. ASUS ROG MAXIMUS VIII IMPACT + 90% of the features - Cost - M.2 (Just WTF for a 240 USD board) I could just go with a mATX or ATX build. I am going to go that route I would go ATX and most likely get a Define R 5. I got an ATX mainboard I am leaning towards (GIGABYTE G1 GA-Z170X-Gaming 7) as well. Thanks for any input!

Can you guys help me. I decided to make my own computer and I need help seeing if my parts are good or I need improvements I have a budget of around $1500 here's my build: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/97Fgnn
