Im about to build my first mid-range gaming pc, and was wondering whether it would be better to buy a new 960, or a used 970. I'll be casually playing games like GTA 5, Witcher 3 and CS:GO. Considering on eBay used 970s go for roughly the same amount, maybe a bit more, than a 960, should i go for a used graphics card?

I recently saw that the same graphics card i had in my PC went on sale for a really good deal on newegg and figured i should buy it and SLI what i have. I have 2x MSI GTX 960 2GD5T video cards with a MSI SLI connector My computer stats are below. So, when SLI is enabled (3d performance turned on) I get weird issues with just using my computer, where i get black blocks that pop up, and if i have multiple tabs open sometimes the images stack and crap. Then if i go to run a game, my computer will crash and reboot. Anyone have this issue before? Can anyone point me in the right direction for fixing it? I'm thinking that maybe my motherboard doesnt like it because its pretty old. Not sure what i should try. I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and nothing changed.

Hey Guys... Have been looking at different ways to get a bit more performance from my 970 and trying to get a bit of a better understanding of how over clocking your GPU's memory translates into real world performance... Does it really matter? If it is already DDR5 I assume its efficiency means an increase in speed doesn't really help, its the memory amount (4GB for example) that really matters? Anyway that is beside the point, just thought I'd throw that there and see if anyone can explain better to me! During my research I came across this article and thought the LTT Forum is the best place to bring it and get some feedback and opinions from the community! So here is the link: http://overclocking.guide/increase-the-nvidia-power-limit-all-cards/1/ I know generally its better not to mess physically with your GPU (besides maybe a water block etc...) but I'm not looking to sell the card and if it breaks I have an excuse to buy a new one... so my question is: Is it worth it? And will it produce any real world performance increases? Peace!

I'm building a new pc and am wondering what gpu to get I think a 960 will support me now but in the future for more powerful games will get another one for more performance, but would I get better performance if I get a 980 instead of the dual 960's

Okay when I open the driver page that handles power etc it shows my EVGA GTX 960s max speed as 1544MHz while MSI GTX 970 gets 1418MHz but both these numbers are higher than what EVGA & MSI have marketed these cards to be! O_O EVGA GTX 960 SSC: *Windows 1342MHz vs Linux 1544MHz http://www.evga.com/articles/00895/EVGA-GeForce-GTX-960/ MSI GTX 970 4GD5 OC: *Windows 1216MHz vs Linux 1418MHz https://www.msi.com/Graphics-card/GTX-970-4GD5-OC.html#hero-overview Is this a mistake? And is this technically voiding warranty if it was Nvidia`s Linux driver that does it automatically? Not that the store would know anyway right? o3o

okay so I have the choice to sell my 760 for 120 bucks and buy a 960 for 100 or buy another 760 for 80 and sli or would a 170 dollar 970 be better then 2 SLI 760's

question is in title. 2 760 2gb sli 140$ 960 2gb 150$ or 970 4gb? 225$ whats my best bet

So I'm currently trying to make a new build, on a budget. So after going through different new builds I could make I wasn't quite happy with the specs I was coming up with. My ideal budget at the time was around £300 but I'm bumping that up to £500. To begin with I wanted the most budget gaming rig I could build but decided instead of being a cheapass I should spend a little extra cash to get a rig that will last a little longer. I saw a few posts on on the hardware swap reddit page that caught my eye and planned up a mid-range build that I'm quite happy with but am I paying a good price on these parts? The build: CPU: Used - AMD FX 8320 - £68.5 - (This is in a bundle with my motherboard, paying £132 + paypal fees of £4.85 for a total of £136.85 or £68.5 per part if you look at it that way. The CPU was bought new by the seller 2-3 years ago with a small OC. Watercooled until 6 months ago, after that the seller used a Hyper 212 until 1 month ago, after he stopped using it.) Motherboard: Used - ASUS Sabertooth 990FX - £68.5 - (Said he bought the motherboard off Ebay around 1 year ago, unsure of how long it was used before that.) Memory: New - Kingston HyperX Fury Black (2x4GB) DDR3-1866 - £29.63 - (Just cheap RAM at a decent speed from a good manufacturer.) Video Card: Used - Zotac GTX 960 2GB - £95 - (This was from another seller, selling his video card and PSU for a total of £140 including shipping. The card looks in good condition and comes in box with all accessories included.) PSU: Used - Seasonic G450 80+ Gold Modular - £45 - (Not much to say, he sent me a link to his ebay listing of this and he has 100% feedback with hundreds of items sold, sounds like a promising guy to purchase used parts from. The PSU looks a lot better than the budget EVGA 430w model I was looking at.) Case: New - Corsair SPEC 01 Red - £35.99 - (I just like the look of this case and it's not too expensive. Would be open to suggestions.) I have a couple of HDD's and an SSD here ready to use for data. The only thing I'll need to purchase is a CPU cooler. Looking at all these parts new on pcpartpicker you're looking at around £524 PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor (£112.96 @ Amazon UK) Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard (£139.87 @ Amazon UK) Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory (£29.63 @ More Computers) Video Card: Zotac GeForce GTX 960 2GB Video Card (£143.99 @ Ebuyer) Case: Corsair SPEC-01 RED ATX Mid Tower Case (£35.99 @ Amazon UK) Other: SEASONIC G450 80+ Gold Modular (£61.00) Total: £523.44 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2016-06-20 00:57 BST+0100 but used it comes to a total of around £343 PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory (£29.63 @ More Computers) Case: Corsair SPEC-01 RED ATX Mid Tower Case (£35.99 @ Amazon UK) Other: AMD FX 8320 (£68.50) Other: ASUS Sabertooth 990FX (£68.50) Other: ZOTAC GTX 960 2GB (£95.00) Other: SEASONIC G450 80+ Gold Modular (£45.00) Total: £342.62 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2016-06-20 01:00 BST+0100 A total saving of £181 TL:DR Am I getting a good deal on these used parts?

Soooo... to start off I buld computers for many different users. Long and somethimes annoying conversations but this time I made myself thinking deeply. I have 250$ for a videocard for myself after a few years with a Zotac GT 730 with 2 gigs of GDDR 5 on board. It was hella cheap and performs quite nice if you don't want to murder some people with the sharp graphics. This time I have the money to replace 730 and give it a chance to live in a media machine under the TV. After the little story here comes the real question. I have seen many benchmarks numbers tossed around and the GTX 1080 hit the market. I think the price of the older hardware will drop. I might be able to get a 970 or even a 980 if I wait long enough but that is not the case. I need real opinion and experience from you guys. the 960 and the AMD cunter part the R9 380 are both great card for 1080p gaming. but I see a lot of benchmarks showing that the R9 380 is usualy behind the expected result. What I want is a stable @ least 60 FPS for most of the games and I don't wanna lower my settings too much. Leave your recommendation and por/cons what you think I hope you can help me to finally decide what to buy!

My GTX960 is having issues for some unknown reason. It just overheats when under almost no stress at all. I don't understand why this would be as i can also hear the fans. Any help welcome.

I I have been playing Just Cause for a few days now, and it ran totally fine all the time. Then when i went to play today, I only got around 25-30 FPS. The temps were sitting at 50 C, so it wasn't overheating and throttling. I went to chech the Coreclock, and it just sat at 539 MHz. I tried to overclock the card in Afterburner, but it didn't react to it at all. I have tried restarting. Please help and thanks in advance

So I recently bought another 960 for SLI. I got home after purchasing and installed the card, plugged in the SLI and power. I turned on my PC and navigated to the nvidia control panel. However the is no SLI option seen in the control panel. I checked the next day by removing one card, testing it in gta v and did the same with the other card. So far I've seemed to narrow it down to either a faulty sli bridge, lack of power to lower card, or some software issue or maybe a issue with the 8x slot (I haven't tested it yet) Both cards appear in device manager and gpu-z. However the new card shows up as 'Video Controller (VGA COMPATIBLE)' Here is the entire parts list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/RYfWMp

So, I have for some time been thinking about changing my graphics card to something more up to date. I currently have a Gainward GTX 960 2GB, factory overclocked. At the same time, I have been thinking about water cooling, because in my sessions, the GPU gets rather hot, although the on-board cooler manages to keep it around 80 degrees. The decision for water is on two reasons; effective cooling and silence, as I want to reduce sound overall. For the water cooling, I have been thinking about either a custom loop, which can include the CPU into the mix, or an AIO cooler in one of two configurations; Luke's ghetto solution with zipties, or a bracket from Corsair's Hydro or NZXT's Kraken series. However, the bracket solution is not compatible with my current card, from my understanding. I have found a waterblock from AlphaCool that is supposedly compatible with my card, but that would lock me to a custom loop or (stupidly) modifying an AIO, which would be rather costly. This is where I find a bit of support toward my idea of upgrading to a newer card, like GTX 970 or 980. So, I would like some input from you people, on a few questions. 1) Is it more cost/performance efficient to go for the bracket-solution or the custom loop? I do not intend to go for super high-quality parts for the loop, just what'd be "good enough". 2) Can you recommend any good value GPUs with 4 or 6 GB? I would prefer if it'd be easily compatible with water cooling, and I do not want AMD cards. Extra bonus if you can suggest a card with dual DVI (because otherwise I would need to change my monitors). I thank you for any helpful advice. Feel free to ask questions in return if you want more information.

Currently I have STRIX-GTX960-DC2OC-2GD5 GPU. I have got a deal with person who is willing to exchange his R9280X-DC2T-3GD5 with my STRIX-GTX960-DC2OC-2GD5. Should I take the deal? Link for his GPU: https://www.asus.com/Graphics-Cards/R9280XDC2T3GD5/specifications/ Link to my GPU: https://www.asus.com/Graphics-Cards/STRIXGTX960DC2OC2GD5/specifications/ Note: I have a ASUS VX229H 1080p Monitor. I play games like AC Syndicate, AC Unity, GTA V, Far Cry @ a minimum Very High to High Settings. I feel comfortable with playing at a minimum 40 to 45 fps. I always overclock. Currently running 960 @1480 boost(in game) and memory clock @8000. Temp: 60-64 C. I'm getting 40-50 on AC Syndicate with this settings. (PCSS off, HSBO+, Texture High, Environment Very High, FXAA). Will it improve the performance with Asus DC2U 280x? Please Help.

Hey guys, I've been struggling for the last couple of days about which gpu I should go for. Since I've came to no conclusion over the last few days, I thought about asking about it here, and hopefully get my answer. As I see things, the 960 most likely outperforms the 950, although I'm not all about performance, but temperatures, acoustics and looks too. So here are a couple of things that I like about the 950 from EVGA: 1. It has the ACX cooler(which looks really nice, and I'm a bit about the looks), they say the fans don't spin until the card hits 60ºC, which is also really nice, and I dont think the gigabyte has this(but if it does, correct me). 2. Again about the cooler, it has two fans, which I like, not only because of acoustics, but looks amazing as well, not the same can be said about the 960, since it has 1 fan only. 3. It comes with a backplate, which, again, is a nice addition for the look of it. So now you might ask what I like about the 960 from Gigabyte, right? Well, nothing at all,.. so far that is. Nothing has really caught my eye about the gigabyte, other than the performance of a 960, which is the main reason of writing this. Although I expect the performance of a 960 from it, I wouldn't be too sure about the temperatures and the acoustics(since it only has 1 fan afterall), so that's a bit worrying, hopefully somebody clears that up for me. I'm mainly looking for good performance at 1080p(which is where both cards perform their best, I assume), but also want good acoustics and avoid overheating at all. Since the start I've been thinking about buying the 950, because of the ok performance, and also it does seem to have nice temps and acoustics. But i've been drifting ever since I saw the 960 on sale, since they are both similarly priced(roughly 180€ where I live). So that's it from me, I hope to hear from you guys, about which of these cards would be the best choice, opinions are very welcome and also share your experience with either of these. Side note: this topic is about the gtx950 and gtx960 only, but I'll still say this. Don't recommend me any AMD card over these, since i'll be installing Arch Linux and the catalyst drivers often suck there, it's either downgrading X11 or it simply doesn't work at all, so I'm only looking for an opinion between these two. Thanks in advance, I'll check here regularly GTX 950: http://xtremmedia.com/EVGA_GeForce_GTX_950_FTW_ACX_2_0_2GB_GDDR5.html GTX 960: https://www.amazon.es/Gigabyte-GeForce-GTX-960-OC/dp/B00SJ8FZZ0/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1459123961&sr=1-1&keywords=gtx+960 EDIT: Added store links for the cards(they're in spanish but hopefully you'll be able to see what matters)

Hard choice... 780ti, 970, 760 sli, or wait till pascal
SuperBailey posted a topic in Graphics Cards
So. I've been saving money. and I have a fairly difficult choice that I've been thinking about for a while. I currently have a gtx760 4gb and can either get another one. OR sell it and get a new card. OR I can wait longer and not sell it. if I do sell or not sell should I get... a 780ti ~$200 - ~$300 a second 760 ~$200 a new 970 ~$300 OOOOORRRRRR I could just wait for pascal and get the most expensive one I can afford. Basically, I want a new graphics card and I'ts a hard choice. HELP!- 9 replies

Hey. I'm selling one of my two 960s to one of my friends. It is a MSI GTX 960 2G 100 million edition. The sexy green one with the backplate. He he is pairing it with 8gb of ddr3 and a 860k and he is planning for it to be his primary computer for gaming and everything else for the foreseeable future. Here is what he what's to know how long will he be able to max out any triple A title at 1080p 60htz (he wants at least 2 years) How long will he be able to game with the settings turned down a tad at 1080p (he's aiming for 5years total PC lifespan) will he be able to do a little bit of photo and video editing. Very basic stuff. I have answered his questions as following yep 2 years is reasnoble at 1080p but maybe not at max settings as games get more visually demanding maybe not 5 years. I would reccomend an upgrade after 3 maybe basic video editing should be fine on the 860k and 8gb of ram. Not the best but he isn't even sure if he'll start doing stuff like that so ya anyway. I just wanted to run this by the forum. Am I giving good advice? I reckon it seems solid but no one is perfect

Bottlenecked? Intel Celeron CPU G1820 & Asus 960 Sstrix 2gb model I'm going to get an upgrade from Asus 650 Ti to a Asus 960 strix 2gb model, but I don't know if I will be bottlenecked? I have a Intel Celeron CPU G1820, clock speed of 2.7GHz, 2 Cores and 2 Threads. But I'm running on a Celeron. I may consider to get at least an i3 but I'm on a budget. But, will I get bottlenecked if I tried to combine both of these powers? if anyone has an opinion on this card I would like to here it: http://www.mwave.com.au/product/evga-geforce-gtx-960-ssc-acx-20-2gb-video-card-ab59532?gclid=CjwKEAiAgKu2BRDu1OGw3-KXokwSJAB_Yy2QRV3q6_pMtU0jO0iobr2AEXlYQOQI9LhQ_q51JRipORoCEonw_wcB I'm thinking of buying it because it would be a massive peformance boost over my GT740. but; how much better will it be than my GT740 (im looking at playing games such as BeamNG.drive, Firewatch and Gmod would it be able to run off a Cooler Master iGreen Power 600W does it come with adapters (ie 2x6pin to 1x 8 pin) is this the lowest price I can get it for any help would be appreciated cheers, hman out

Hello, I just bought the msi GTX 960 (2GB) and in battlefield 4 on nvidia's benchmark and what I've seen from youtube I'm getting like half of what they are fps-wise, for example people get the same fps as me in battlefield 4 on high settings and I'm playing on low settings, in CS: GO I can't get 100 fps on high settings while some people get 300 fps in CS: GO on high settings, I've reinstalled the drivers and all that, I'm playing on 1080p, I do have a 120Hz monitor, AMD FX 6300 CPU, ASUS M5A78L-LE motherboard, 6GB of Transcend 1333MHz and a 500W FSP PSU, any suggestions are welcome.

Hey Computer Experts!I need some help. I have a PNY GTX 960 and I am getting around 70 FPS on Counter Strike Global Offensive. I know this isn't normal I put all my setting to low also and I get around 85. I prefer over 120 in case of any frame drops, or even a few smokes thrown in a few spots. I will list my Specs below and I would really appreciate it if I can have some help. At first I thought I was throttling and when I run my fans Max RPM I am at 70 Degrees Celsius.CPU: http://prntscr.com/a4mt8yGPU: http://prntscr.com/a4mtw5MoBo: http://prntscr.com/a4mtjrRAM: http://prntscr.com/a4mtnv I did reset my PC see if it was some kind of OS Issue and it didn't help. I have all settings low and Vsync off,

Hello guys! So I know there is a million post about the 960vs R9 380 around the internet, but none of that answered my true question. I'm plannig to buy a new graphics card that replaces my old friend GTX550Ti and I cant decide. I do seen a lot of performance and FPS test both of this cards and that 5-10 FPS is not really a big deal for me but I have some questions about, basically the good old AMD vs NVIDIA thing. I'd like to say I don't want to look like a fanboy, I found pros & cons about each card. So first of all, in the past 8-10 years I had a lot of problems with AMD things. I HATE THEIR DRIVERS.... I never had so much struggle with anything like those Cataclyst (sm) drivers. I mean you had to find a driver for like each games you wanted to play because each one was optimized for another... that was so annoying, and also a lot of my friends changed to NVDIA because of this. The reason why I'm talkin in past tense, I don't really know is that still an issue or not. Their getting better with drivers or it's about the same? I really don't want to struggle with those again and I read a couple of worrisome news about drivers that actually killed some AMD cards because they accidentaly turned off the fans on the card. And allso I never seen an NVDIA card failing in my envrionment but I had an AMD card that failed on me, and I watched with my friend when his (Sapphire) HD6570's memorychips slowly and painfully died. In the other hand I don't really like NVIDIA's agressive marketing and they just want to monopolizing the market. The Geforce experince is a crap, I hate it, however the drivers were allways fine for me and they do care a lot about optimizing a driver for an actual new game and at the same time you don't have to switch back to a 2 year old driver for an older game. So there's a bitter taste in my mouth about switching back to AMD but as I mentioned I don't want to be a fanboy and I'm open for starting over with the red side, if they do it better now. Also like that the R9 380 have 256bit bandwith insted of 960's 128bit. I found it an important thing. But allso the 960 has CUDA and PhysX. I allso noticed that I play more games that has "the NVIDIA" logo, so I don't know can it be a problem for me. I remember when I had to find somehow a physx.dll that wasn't caused BSOD.... Now summarizing those things, what do you say, should I switch back to AMD happily or NVIDIA still a reliable and much "painless" solution for me? Thank you !
