So my friends power supply from what he told me, kinda overheated & died out on him when he was playing some games on steam. When he tried to turn it on, it turned on for a split second & then turned off. Is his power supply completely dead? & if so, what new power supply should he get

Hello to you, you wonderful people of the LTT forum who have helped me through (now three) computer builds. All of which I expect to fail because of something stupid I did. So today I ask you if you can help me make a choice in power supply. My current expected wattage (thanks to PCPartPicker) is about 500W, however I plan to OC my E5-2670 and RX470 to their limits as we all know.. POWER IS BEST THING! So I ask you of these three PSU's which would you recommend? I ask for these specifically because I would like to test @Slick's theory about if having more power future-proof's the computer (I really hope I don't need to buy anything else until 3-5 years down the road). This is an INVESTMENT. I do a LOT of gaming and some streaming on verious sites. Ontop of that, I also am a full time college student who (and yes this is insane) will be taking this computer 6000km (~3000mi) to Norway in about one year. I know, I'm insane. But my sanity aside: Should I spend the same, get a higher wattage PSU and forgo modularity for the future of my PC, or should I stick with modularity, for the same price? Your opinion and help is greatly appreciated. PSU's: Corsair CXM 650W 80+ Bronze (~$70) Corsair CXM 750W 80+ Bronze (~$70) Fractal Design Integra M 650W 80+ Silver (~$65) EVGA BQ 650W 80+ Bronze (~$65) CoolMax 600W 80+ Bronze (~$60) Corsair RMx 750W 80+ Gold (~$75 after mir, kinda last option if possible)

GPU: Asus AMD R9 390 DirectCuII, 8GB GDDR5 CPU: Intel Skylake i7-6700K, LGA1151, 4GHz, 8MB, Boxed Memory: Kingston 8GB(2x4GB) HyperX Fury DDR4 2400MHz, CL15 Mobo: Asus Z170-A, LGA1151, Intel Z170, DDR4, ATX SSD: Samsung 250GB 850 EVO SSD -levy, 2.5", SATA III, 540/520 MB/s Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro PSU: Corsair 650W. Would this build work with the 650w PSU or does it need a bigger one? Is there something I could tweak for better performance (in the same price range as the original part)?

Eh. I'm a little miffed. A few months back I built my very first PC (sans gpu) and being a total noob, I went by what my friend recommended of the power supply - a Corsair VS 650w unit that seemed to have nothing but positive reviews online, and was endorsed by the people giving me advice at the time. I didn't think much of it, and I've had no issues with it so far, but I also haven't really stressed it to any real degree, because I've not been doing any gaming or serious work without a gpu. However, since I started shopping for a GPU I did more research, upon which I discovered that VS psus are apparently complete crap and not to be used for gaming or heavy workloads at all, period. Suffice to say I'm pretty mad at myself for not having uncovered this lovely tidbit earlier. Since I'm trying to buy a gtx 970 or its pascal equivalent later this year, would you guys recommend a psu upgrade along with the gpu purchase? This is not desirable because it will take a solid chunk out of my limited GPU fund, and I also don't relish the thought of unplugging everything from my mobo and reconnecting everything (cable management was kinda a bear). Obviously I will do it if the PSU is going to explode or fry my parts or something, but how soon should I look into doing that, and are there any good but reasonably budget ones you could recommend? I was thinking of upgrading to something like an XFX , I hear those are quite decent (I saw the PSU Tier list).

Hello! Just wondering if the RM650x from Corsair have two 8 pin PCI cables and one 8 pin cpu cable?

Hi, So im thinking of upgrading to a GTX 1080 but im concerned that I won't have enough power. Im planning to buy a WINDFORCE when it's released (http://uk.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5915#kf) and keep my existing WINDFORCE GTX 760 as the 1080 does not have the correct rear i/o for my monitors. I've tried using the onboard intel graphics, but every time I try to install the intel driver for Windows 10 it says my PC does not meet the minimum requirments. I'm running 4690K (of which I plan to OC...), 16GB 1866 GDDR3 and a GTX 760 on an EVGA Supernova 650GQ. Both card's recommended wattages are 500w and I've tried using PSU calculators which have told me that 750w is the recomended wattage for running both simultaneously however I'm told that these arent very reliable. Thanks, Adam.

Hi, so Im s]using my other account on the forum today, but nonetheless I should be able to check replies for this topic To get to the business, I have a 4690k running at 4.5ghz, Hyper 212 evo, with a single hard drive, one ssd, and 5 case fans. I have a single GTX 770 4gb twin frozr, all of that running on an evga 80+ gold 650w power supply. I have decent frames running on a 1440p monitor, but I would like to see more performance. My friend offered me a great deal on another GTX 770 4gb. However, I feel like 2 GTX770s in sli would not be able to be handled by my PSU (650w). Note that I will not be doing any overclocking. Will this be okay to run, or should I call off the deal and upgrade in the future? Thanks.

I'm planning on using the Sapphire Nitro R9 390 for my first PC build but I'm not sure if I should get a 750w or 650w power supply, what would you guys recommend? On pcparpicker the TDP is 275w, but on the Sapphire website it says power consumption is 375w and they also suggest a 750w power supply. I've read that some people are running it on ~650w power supplies without any issues, but I just wanted to know what you guys would recommend (is 750w too much?) and/or if you guys knew why Sapphire suggests 750w. Total wattage for my build would be 581 if the power consumption of the card is 375w. I do have one other question that is probably really dumb but, does a 6+2 pin connector go into the 8 pin socket? I plan on getting an EVGA G2 power supply if someone was wondering. Anyways thanks for taking the time to read this! Sorry if these were dumb questions.

I've been putting together parts for my first computer build and have been pretty set on the SuperNova psu, but just recently stumbled across the Bitfenix Fury which includes individually sleeved cables. The ribbon cables with the GS look great, but they can't touch the fury's included cables. I'm looking 650w power supplies. The GS runs for $95, while I found the Fury for $85. This is where my knowledge ends, so I came here for the wisdom of which psu is better, the most I'll ever be running off this psu will be a core i7 4790k with a 980ti maybe at one point, although initially I'll go with an i5 4690k with a 960 or 970. Thanks for the help -Mace

I've had my PSU since October - an EVGA Supernova 650W G1 - and for a couple months it's been really loud, at first I thought it was my motherboard, which was an Intel DQ35JO, until January when I overhauled my whole PC. The power supply loudness is actually the fan, it's a loud air whooshing noise and upon investigation it seems to be the fan running at 100% all the time. I'm not putting much pressure on the PSU at all, with my parts using less than 500W according to PCPP. What should I do? RMA it? I've heard EVGA's RMAing is a pain, and it takes a while. I have until October to do this so we'll see.

Hey there. Today afternoon I did a post because my psu was failing me. Upon many tests I concluded that it is best to switch to something in the same price range. It is very important that I get a fast response since i'm going to the store tomorrow morning. At the moment I have a corsair CS650M and I'm having problems with the fan. Not only it is a common problem as the psu is not as good as I thought (according to the linus community and the web). You guys talked about the XFX and seasonic. In the store that I am going tomorrow I have the XFX 650W XXX Edition Bronze as the only alternative on stock. (https://www.pcdiga.com/2/8059/Fonte-XFX-Pro-850W-Core-Edition-P1-850S-NLB9) Is this a good power supply? Better than the CS650M? I also might (even though I didnt want to) consider buying the XFX Pro 850W Core edition (It seems a bit overkill on the wattage and its more expensive so I would only like to buy this one in case its really really worth it). Thank you guys for your time! TLDR; Need a replacement PSU for my Corsair CS650M Considering XFX 650W XXX Edition Bronze XFX 850W Pro Core Edition ( I would only like to buy this one in case its really worth it, because I wouldnt want to spend extra money). Please let me know if I'm not doing adequate choices. Thank you!

Ok so i just got my new shiny 650W 80+ gold PSU and now im gona OC my graphics card! i am slightly familiar with MSI afterburner seeing as i have used it to OC my old 750TI(with horrible results) and i just have some questions for people who use it!(or just generally OC) here they are: 1: does the OC load automatically after you restart your PC or do you have to do it manually in MSI afterburner? 2: memory or GPU first? 3: do i touch the voltage? 4: best steps to go with?(ie: 10 and 10 untill crach/artifacts and then down 5 and 5 untill stabile) thanks for any replies and thanks for any help, marry christmas everyone

Hi, I bought a r9 390 and now need to upgrade my psu. I have a cx600m. I need a PSU that has 2 8 pin connections. I don't really want to risk using an adapter. I was looking at the Seasonic M12II Bronze Evo Edition - 620 Watt PSU and realised that it only has one 8 pin. I really want to use this new gpu soon. What is the best value for money at 100 euro?

I need a new PSU for my r9 390. I saw these for kinda cheap and they can be here soon (Ireland). http://www.ebay.ie/itm/EVGA-750-GQ-750W-Modular-Power-Supply-80-Plus-Gold-/381463419867?hash=item58d0fddbdb:g:TuUAAOSwo0JWQgNH http://www.ebay.ie/itm/EVGA-850-GQ-850W-Modular-Power-Supply-80-Plus-Gold-/181928394700?hash=item2a5bc6ffcc:g:fkoAAOSw7hRWQgNk http://www.ebay.ie/itm/EVGA-SuperNOVA-750-G1-750W-Full-Modular-80-GOLD-Power-Supply-120-G1-0750-XR-/361239467498?hash=item541b8cd5ea:g:z04AAOSw9N1VxLWl Which of these is the best or should I go for a different brand or evga model? I can't spend much more than 100 euro

Hello there, I am scrounging the internet for a worthy power supply to put into my new build with a 4790k and a R9 390. Many people have said 650w is plenty for the 390. Please help me in deciding which one is best for gaming hours on end with those components. #1) Seasonic S12G 650W 80+ Gold: https://pcpartpicker.com/part/seasonic-power-supply-s12g650 #2) XFX TS 650W 80+ Gold: https://pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-power-supply-p1650gts3x #3) Antex EarthWatts Platinum 650W 80+ Platinum: https://pcpartpicker.com/part/antec-power-supply-ea650platinum Link to my build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2bP8pg Yes they are all none modular power supplies because that is what has been recommended by all the people I have seen build in the case I will use (Fractal Design Node 304), if you are wondering why, it is because when mounted fan side down the cables will come out on a side that is not interfering with the GPU and modular power supplies have plugs that stick out and may interfere. I am personally leaning toward the Antec Platinum because of the high efficiency rating and how ever much money it could save me in the long run. Anyway, any help will be greatly appreciated with informing me if any of these are bad, good etc. Also if none of these "work" for any of you I will gladly take any suggestions. Thank you!

Hi all, If I plan to upgrade in the future, I'll probably need a bigger PSU for headroom. I've heard that the 450 VS series PSU's really aren't good. Would you recommend the above PSU for this build? I'm buying off a site that only uses the Corsair PSU's. It's £40 more but is that worth it, or just a waste of energy? I'm just very wary of how everyone is saying how bad the 450w PSU is, judging from previous answer seeking on this site. I really want to take their advice. I look to be upgrading in about 2/3 years time.
