so i got a lg 27ud68 4k monitor, i have 3 very high end hdmi cables but i could only get 30hz from it. idk if they are hdmi 1.4 or 2.0 or whatever. later i started playing gta 5, i couldnt get it to play at 4k, but eventually it ran at 4k after i try to run gta 5 in windows mode. i noticed that my monitor was running at 60hz, i thought maybe it needed time to adjust. everything was smooth, and it ran fine. then today its back to 30hz, no matter what i do i cant get it to display at 60hz.... so what happened? should i just buy a dp cable? or am i doing something wrong. i have a rx 480. and i updated the drivers. and lastly i see an option for 5120 x 2880... but i cant choose it. it only goes up to 3840 x 2160

hey guys, After some help deciding on what monitor I should be looking at. Comp specs are: i7 7740x @5ghz with gtx1080 I mostly play FPS games and also do a bit of CAD work. I currently have a 24" aoc 144hz monitor. I definitely want bigger, but the question is how much bigger and what should I be prioritising? 1080 vs 1440? 27" vs 34" ultrawide curved? 60hz vs 144hz? response times? I'm looking to spend about the $700 AUD mark, give or take and I'm leaning towards an ultrawide curved monitor, mainly for the immersion factor. What's everyone think? Cheers, Trav

Title pretty much says it. Have been looking at the Acer R221Q (recommended to me previously), H226HQL (I used to use this and liked it), and UM.WB6AA.A01 (fully adjustable and rotatable but thicc bezels). Would love recommendations between these or any others I missed.

Ive been looking between a g-sync display and a non g-sync display, with the former being a 1080p 180Hz TN panel, and the latter being a 1440p 60Hz IPS panel. I was wondering if a GPU delivering a constant 60 FPS or more on a 60 Hz display would experience screen tearing.

I have a new monitor, it is the acer gn246hl 144hz 1080p 24" display. For some reason my PC sees it as a "Generic PnP Monitor" and won't allow me to run it above 60hz, same with Nvidia's control panel. I am using an HDMI cable (I think it is HDMI 2.0 or 1.4) that is connected to my GTX 1080. The weirdest part about it is that in most games (Overwatch, Destiny2 beta, CS:GO, Mass effect 1-3 and some others) I see a huge difference once I set the frame limit to 300 from 60. The reason this bothers me is that in indie titles I am limited to my screens framerate, and the system thinks it is only 60Hz. Can someone help me fix it? P.S. I am using the latest Nvidia drivers, the latest version of windows, and the bios from acer's website (for the scren).

Hello, currently I only have one ASUS Designo MX259H 25". It has done me very well, and I am thinking of buying a ASUS Designo MX27AQ 27" to make my primary and keep my MX259H as a secondary monitor. One thing about it though, is that it is only 60hz. I currently use 60hz, and have no problem with it, although I have been told 144hz is way better. I mainly use my computer for coding and gaming. Would it make enough of a difference to not get the monitor for that reason? Also, I am wondering if my system will be able to run this (And possibly how well (Fps)). Please note that when gaming only the MX27AQ will be on the game. Specs Currently I get very good frame rates, usually all above/near 60fps at High-Ultra settings.

I'm looking into getting a new monitor in the not so distant future. Does anyone know of a monitor that can do 1080p/1440p at 144Hz and 4K at 60Hz. My PC can run it as it has a 7700k and a 1080Ti Thanks in advance, Luke.

Hey all, My girlfriend has recently gotten into the profession of graphic design and I would like to build her a computer and get her a nice new monitor to help her along. I have a good enough knowledge to build her a PC that can handle doing this kind of work but when it comes to a proper monitor I start to get lost as my PC's are usually used for gaming... which is more important sRGB, Adobe RGB, any other features I should be looking at? should it be 4K or is 1440p even acceptable? Any photo/video editors or designers on here with experience that could provide some insight on this would be much appreciated. I would like to stay around $600-1000.00 tax included for the monitor unless something above that would vastly enhance her work but seeing as she is just getting into it I don't see a purpose yet blowing 2000.00$+ on some insane monitor. Ideally she would like to have a 27-32" screen, I am not apposed to an ultra wide setup as long as it meets the requirements of an editor. Apart from her work she will be using the monitor for some gaming and every day use so I would like it to have a 60hz refresh rate and any freesync / gsync would be a massive bonus but not needed by any means. Any help or suggestions much appreciated. Thanks for your time. TZ

Hey I'm literally a fews days away from receiving my new gtx 1080 ti and because of this I would like to upgrade from my 1080p 60hz monitor to a 21:9 monitor. My one problem is that even though I'm getting a 1080ti I'm not loaded. I cant afford the acer x34 and asus equalivant. I can easily get a monitor for half the price if I compromise on one thing. The refresh rate or resolution the problem being I cant decide which to compromise on. Also another thing from stopping me just saving up like I did for the 1080 ti to get the tip top acer or asus is that can you really game on a 21:9 monitor at 144hz at 1440p on triple a games? I hope that someone can have an input to help me decide! Thanks!

I am prepared to buy either a gtx 1070 or 1080. I own a 1440p 60 hz monitor with no plan to upgrade the monitor. Should I buy a 1070 and save some money or buy a 1080 and get the extra longevity as games become increasingly demanding. My goal would be to get high/ultra detail on AAA for the next 3 years. Thoughts?

I currently have a Dell S2418HX monitor (24" 1080p@60hz IPS). It is really low, and not height adjustable. I use X-Plane11 (GTX 1070/i7-7700k) and need a second 24" monitor for my setup. I would like IPS but TN is okay. I rarely go above 50fps with X-Plane so 60hz is okay but I might want to play some fps like Battlefront 2 (new) in the future. I was wondering if 1440p would be weird with my setup and if I should just go with something like an Asus VG248QE (144hz). I would like gsync but monitors like that may be a little out of my price range unless my options aren't that good. I was worried about scaling with 1080p and 1440p side by side. Budget is $270 max probably. I possibly could go for a Acer predator or Dell S2418DG if I really need to, but I want options.

Hi, I'm ready to order the parts for my build but don't know what monitor to get. I decided I would either get a 1080p 144hz or a 1440p 60hz since I cant afford a 1440p 144hz. IPS would be great but not necessary since I will be playing some fps games. Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. My budget is $350 Asus - VG248QE 24.0 - This is a 1080p monitor I was looking at I haven't found a 1440p monitor yet so any suggestions would be appreciated.

I just got back from school and got my desktop all set up again but once i turned it on for some reason my monitor doesnt want to go above 30hz for 3840 x 2160. Ever since I got the monitor in July I have been using it at 60hz, just yesterday it was fine playing games at 60 but no matter what i try it only shows the option to go no higher than 30hz. Any help is greatly appreciated also not sure if this is the right thread or not. My monitor is a LG 27" 4K Freesync Monitor 27UD68-B My system is more than capable of running it, Core i7 4790k, evga 970 ftw, 16gb corsair dominator

Hi, I had a question about the i5 6402p. I have one and i have a 144hz monitor, and its running at 60fps for some reason. I couldnt find anywhere what the max 1080p framerate is with the 6402p is anywhere. Does anyone know if the CPU is bottlenecking the refresh rate? Thanks!

I am stuck in a bizarre situation. I got into this mess because my employer (very kindly) offered to upgrade my work laptop to the new Macbook Pro 15" (with USB-C thunderbolt 3). It's being delivered next week. My work laptop also serves as my 'desktop' at home. I use it docked with a keyboard, mouse, speakers and a 4k 60hz tv. The problem comes with the latter. According to apple (after multiple long chats with support) it is impossible to output 4k@60hz from my brand new €4000 laptop to the TV, which only has HDMI 2.0(a) ports. Every support person I talked to did happily explain to me that their adapter does support 4k@30hz which works "wonderfully". It comes down to this, can anyone tell me of a possible solution to connecting a 2016 MBP to a 4k TV over HDMI 2.0? So far I've come across one possible solution that I can't confirm yet, and can't find any evidence for or against: USB-C to DP 1.2 cable + DP 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 adapter? Any solutions would be highly appreciated! P.S. Lets not have the mac vs windows debate. I simply do not have a choice. My job requires using OSX.

i have a 55 inch 4k 60hz tv that im trying to use as a second monitor for my pc. the tv has hdmi 2.0 ports, im using an hdmi 2.0 cable, and my graphics card, msi rx 480 8GB has hdmi 2.0 ports. my 1080 p monitor is running at 60hz, but in the advanced display setting>display adapter properties in Win 10 it only lets me go up to 30 hz for my 4k display. i have all the latest Win and Amd updates installed. how do i fix it? Thanks

Hi, Just bought a hdmi cat6 extender, but unfortunately its affecting my refresh rate. My computer display settings are configured to output 60hz in nvidia control panel. So Im not sure why its looking like 24hz which is terrible for gaming and even web browsing. Any support would be great. Cheers

Hardware: https://gyazo.com/31090b1fadfe23fc638bddf593a0966c i have a GTX 970 now in gaming PC. Im having an issue and i dont know if its possible for it to work. i have a benq xl2411z monitor. i use a DVI from my 970 to my monitor for 144Hz refresh rate. and i have a dvi to hdmi to my 2nd monitor(as an extended display for multitasking). I also have an HDMI from my 970 to the Live Gamer HD capturecard in my streaming pc (extreme cap u3 better but it freezes so i use the other instead) and i duplicate the DVI thats to my main monitor and the HDMI to the capturecard so my streaming pc can do the streaming and no load is on my gaming pc so i can stream my main pc game. in the windows display properties i have the DVI and hdmi duplicated and my DVI to hdmi to my 2nd monitor to extend my main monitor. but i can tell in game that its locking at 60 Hz. I have the games fps set to 144Hz and i have a fps counter in the corner. If i play with the duplicated display's and look around then plug the hdmi into the captrurecard and see its duplicated.. its not as smooth as just the DVI. the framerate didnt change from 144fps and its set to 144 in the game. and i checed the windows display properties of the duplicated display's and its set to 144Hz. Is it the fact that HDMI doesnt support 144Hz that it just wont actually go to 144Hz? this is the only thing stopping me from streaming my gameplay. any help/feedback would be appriciated

Hi guys, im currently rocking a gtx 1070 and a 1080p 144hz gaming monitor (xl2411z). A guy is offering me a trade for my 144hz monitor in exchange for his xb280hk 4k 60hz monitor. I'm pretty much unsure if this was worth the trade as right now I'm getting a really good offer from someone who wants to buy my 1070 off of me (more than what i paid for), to purchase a decently priced 1080. I initially bought the 144hz monitor 3 years back because I was really into counter strike competitive gaming then and it made a huge world of difference to me. It was an extremely satisfying experience to be able to play cs:go on 144hz. Now, I have outgrown CS:GO but still play casual overwatch which may/may not require 144hz. I am now more invested in games like gta V ,witcher 3 , quantum break and just prepurchased watchdogs 2. I really do not know if the 1080p to 4k jump will be a satisfying enough experience to downgrade from a 144hz monitor. I hope you guys can give me valueable feedback based off your experienced dealing with such monitors. Cost is not a problem. Now I know the better option would be 144hz 1440p but the trade I have been offered only allows for a 4k monitor 60hz. Thanks a lot for helping out.
