I couldn't find a post with Australian prices (which are always super jacked up) so created this one. My PC is going to be used for gaming, some video editing and some 3D work. I have a b550 mb, couple of 1080p monitors (one of them 144Hz) and a 3060ti. I have sorted out everything else but just needed some help with my CPU. I could get the 3600 at around AU$320 and the 5600x at around AU$529 with a queue time of 4-6 weeks. If I pay AU$550, I could have it delivered (according to MightyApe) by 25 Jan, although idk how accurate that is. I've looked at benchmark stats and the pros and cons but still wanted to get an outside opinion. I guess my final question is, Is it worth paying $200 more for the 5600x? Or should I buy a 3600 and keep it? Or sell it when prices for the 5600x (hopefully) drop down? This is probably a stupid questions but here goes: I read that a better CPU makes less off a difference at higher resolutions so could I render the game at a slightly higher resolution with the 3600 and then downscale it to remove the CPU bottleneck or is that just dumb? Please let me know what you guys think. Thank you for your time! First time here so please tell me if I'm doing something wrong.

I am getting quite terrible performance in certain games, and below average performance in everything I've played so far. It is especially noticeable on GTA averaging low 50s when driving through the city. I went to YouTube and searched for benchmarks of my CPU/GPU combo and right enough my setup should be getting me well over 100 FPS with everything maxed on GTA. Firstly, here is my setup: Ryzen 5 3600 RTX 3060 Ti Corsair Vengeance LPX 2 x 8GB CL16 MSI B450 Tomahawk Max Things I have tried: Ensured I am on latest GPU drivers Uninstalled drivers with DDU Fresh install of GPU drivers Reseated the GPU Ensured power settings set to High Performance in Windows & Nvidia Control Panel Updated Windows Ensured RAM is in Dual Channel w/ XMP on (3000Mhz) Updated chipset drivers Updated BIOS Ensured Link Sate Power Management is switched to off Here is are my UserBenchmark results: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/39019226 Here is a vid demonstrating my performance on GTA Here is a clip of me playing Doom 2016, GPU usage sitting at low 40% never going above 50% getting 100-120 FPS. Here is a clip of someone playing Doom Eternal on the same build, 98% GPU usage sitting at around 160-190 FPS constant.

Since the last time I formatted windows I have micro-stutters both in game and on windows, I constantly do 150+ fps but it is not smooth as it should be (144hz freesync monitor) already set on windows at 144hz. I thought it was the processor (since I had temperature problems with the stock heatsink which I replaced solving the problem), I enabled the PBO profile from the bios and re formatted windows on ssd, installed clean drivers, b450 chipset drivers from the amd page, set ryzen master on auto oc, tried both with and without XMP of the ram as I suspected they could be the problem but nothing, 200 fps with continuous stutters and windows that seem to not be as smooth as it was. screens of my cinebench r23 scores with hwinfo open and latencymon What can I do? I ran out of ideas Thanks in advance to everyone https://imgur.com/a/aNGj8CU

Hey Linus Tech Tips community, I have a quick request for y'all. I recently built a Gaming PC, my first in almost two decades, and I wanted to make sure these CPU temperatures were within expected parameters. I'm using a Ryzen 5 3600 CPU with a "be quiet!" Dark Rock Slim (Shadow Rock ended up being too big) in a Lian Li TU150 case with "be quiet!" Silent Wings 3 fans in the front and rear mounting points, so it should be a decent amount of airflow. I'm overly concerned that I botched the thermal paste application (primarily that I put too little as an overcorrecting measure when I put way too much on the aforementioned Shadow Rock install) and I wanted to make sure these temperatures are within expected ranges. I have the fans set to "performance" in the ASRock motherboard BIOS. Here's a Cinebench run: Cinebench R20 Test Looks like idle is around mid-30s and a Cinebench R20 run gets it up to around 69c at maximum. Does that sound proper or should I pull off the cooler and some point and reapply the thermal paste? Many thanks!

ram XMP not working on 3200Mhz G.Skill Ripjaws V 16GB RAM
Neon Müller posted a topic in Troubleshooting
Hello, so I upgraded from my ASRock B450 Pro4 motherboard to an ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming 4. I have 2x8GB modules of G.SKILL Ripjaws V 3200 RAM. XMP already didn‘t work on the B450 motherboard. I looked up the supported CPUs and found out that my Ryzen 5 3600 isn‘t compatible with it. I thought a simple motherboard upgrade would fix that issue. Turns out, after upgrading to an ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming 4, it still doesn‘t work. I really don‘t know what the issue is. The RAM should be compatible with the motherboard as well. Does anybody know why it‘s not working? Specs: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming 4 G.SKILL Ripjaws V DDR4-3200 8GBx2 CL16-18-18-38 CoolerMaster MWE Bronze V2 600W ADATA XPG SX6000 Pro 256GB Samsung 870 QVO 1TB Arctic Freezer 34 eSports MSI GTX 1080ti SEA HAWK (with Raijntek Morpheus II Core Edition cooler) Fractal Design Focus G If you have any ways to help me, please feel free to respond. If you need any more specifications, go ahead and ask me. Thank you, Neon. -
So I live in very weird place and at my local market those cpus retail literally at same price. You may think that's no brainer go 3600XT. But I'm on tight budget so I'm considering keeping my old Deepcool 200t cooler(2 heat pipes large fan nothing fancy) I think its little better than stock one . 3600XT is about 4-5 hotter in benchmarks ? So I'm really confused do I have to be worried about Temperatures ?

AMD 3600/ 16gb of Corsair vengeance/ MSI B550 GAMING PLUS/ RTX 2060 SUPER/ Corsair RM 750x PART 1 Ok so I built this computer today and it was going great, I updated windows in till it said there are no more updates I updated the bios and the chipset all the things, Later tonight I go to get on and use it a bit to see how it runs and the Ethernet is not working (I didn’t update the ethernet driver) so I think OK let me just get the latest driver for the ethernet BUT before I do that I think let me restart the pc and see if that helps aaaannnd it will not come back on now, The fans spin up and the lights come on it just doesn’t do anything, the led for the debug is on for the cpu and I don’t know what to do now help me PART 2 I got it to come back on after unplugging everything and plugging it back in, The long power off I don’t think did anything I think that cpu might be over heating because I try to run heaven and it was going good until it spazzed out froze and then restarted and I could not get it to come on for a little bit now it’s back on and I would like to know what to do next? maybe there’s not adequate thermal paste or good enough contact I’m using the stock cooler, what do you think? PART 3 I ran heaven and it spazzed out and I had to shut it off and now it will not come back on, What are the signs of a bad cpu? if some of the post doesn’t make sense it’s because I was answering questions and following steps that were given to me on reddit

There are dozens of CPUs on the market for both productivity and gaming, but one stands tall above the rest – Why is everyone buying it?

Been messing with overclocking on and off ever since I got my 3600 (nice cpu by the way), and I recently discovered that it seems "stable" at higher clocks than initial testing suggested, so trying to see if that's actually viable running 4.45ghz instead of the usual plebeian 4.4ghz - doesn't make a real difference, but higher numbers = better. Cinebench was set to high priority in windows 10 task manager - affinity was set to cpu 0. So far CPU 0 seems to be the only one doing this, others report normally. *Edit common trend. So with that in mind I present to you these lovely screen grabs. I wasn't quick enough to screen grab it, but core temp briefly reported a 2401W power draw which honestly seemed a little excessive for a 1 thread workload. Not sure what there's to learn from that. Probably wont matter, but running an ASRock Phantom Gaming 4 570x board, the 3600 and windows 10. Rest of specs shouldn't be relevant for this.

Hi, Helping someone on the /r/buildapc subreddit and he is running an R5 3600 w. the stock cooler. I know they can run toasty but his chip is spiking to 99C. He has already reseated the cooler with new paste and the problem persists. So I then asked him to run R20 with Ryzen Master in the background to monitor temps/voltage. He reported CPU core power draw of 66W and package draw of 85W. Nothing wrong there. However, all core voltage was sitting steadily at 1.46-1.47v, which is way too high for Zen 2...? One core, a spike, 1.45+ volts is fine, but not sustained for a continual load across all cores, surely? This has to be reason for his high temperatures, right? I am going to suggest MB BIOS update, ensure latest chipset drivers installed, and ensure he is running the Ryzen Balanced Power plan. He either has the most garbage tier 3600 in history (that barely made the certification to be a 3600), or there is an issue with hardware pumping too much voltage to the CPU, whether via a bad BIOS, or his power plan? Just sanity check my logic first before I send him on a wild goose chase!

Hi guys, Is it worth upgrading to a ryzen 7 5800x3d? It's on sale now for 369 euros where I live. Currents setup: Rx 5700xt Ryzen 3600 (on a MSI b450m mortar max) 32GB 3200mhz RAM Corsair rm650 psu I use a 240mm rad for cpu cooling. I've seen the cpu can do some good stuff to frametimes and stuttering and I know it likely won't do much to average FPS if at all. Maybe its possibly a good deal for when I want to upgrade to a new gpu in a couple of years. Games that I am currently playing: Warzone League of legends Rocket league Overwatch Some other AAA games like Cyberpunk, RDR, Uncharted, Tomb Raider. So what is your opinion? I'm temped by the new price.

I have just found my Ryzen 5 3600 is boosting at 4.6GHz I'm really happy just need to over clock my GPU

Hi to everyone. My PC has R9 5900X, Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite, 3080Ti and 2x8 GB of RAM Corsair Vengeance RS DDR4-3600 DC C18. I just added another two sticks of RAM which are also from Corsair but Vengeance RGB Pro DDR4-3600 DC C18 2x8GB. Recently I noticed some input lags of my keyboard while playing Minecraft. It happens not all the time, only at the certain times when placing blocks pretty fast or moving around. I use some mods and shaders for Minecraft (dedicated 8GB of RAM to it), I achieve ~200 fps almost all the time and everything is okay, but it looks like this input lag started after I installed more RAM. Keyboard lags for like few seconds after I release every key, character still moves around by itself, if I press inventory or ESC, it only opens everything after this lag disappears. Few days ago I removed those two sticks of RAM and now this lag looks gone. My question are these 4 sticks of RAM can't communicate between or something else is wrong with my PC? Every stick has same speeds of 18-22-22-42 and 3600Mhz. Only difference between them I saw was one letter in the name 2x CMG16GX4M2D3600C18 and 2x CMW16GX4M2D3600C18. After install I see 32GB of RAM and using X.M.P to unlock that 3600 speed. Tried to google it, but can't find anything helpful. Did I bought wrong sticks of RAM or they should be fine working together? Thanks in advance.

Help! My system won’t boot with a ryzen 5 3600 and two sticks of ram! I recently upgraded to a r5 3600 from a r7 1700, but after installing my new cpu, the system seems to ramp all the fans up to max speed, and nothing will post. But swapping out the ram to one stick seems to make the system post (and it doesn’t matter which stick) (both sticks work with my 1700) I’ve updated the bios, checked for bent pins, used new ram. I’ve even tried a different 3000 series cpu to the same outcome of duel channel not working,I’ve even changed ram speeds and voltage. My current bios is for the asrock hdv r4.0 and it is P4.9 any suggestions?

Hello, Can someone help me, or try to help me reach 3600 on memory IF possible. I'm fairly new to PC and noticed my memory is running at 2666. But it is rated at 3600. In order to reach 3600 XMP Profile needs to be enabled. I enter BIOS and active XMP profile and I even see the "target" is set to 3600. The XMP tries to target DDR4 - 3600 18-22-22-42 1.35V I save the settings and wait for reboot. The system tells me it failed to boot properly and will continue to boot witnin 5 sec. It boots into windows and i notice my memory runs at a even lower value. My memory runs at 2133 insted of 3600(JEDEC #3) I do have the option for a XMP Profile 2, but i don't know what kind of values i need to enter in order to reach 3600. I also have the option to manually enter memory values. My BIOS/UEFI settings are default My system: ASROCK asrock z390m-itx/ac https://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z390M-ITXac/index.asp#Specification i5-9600k(stock) RAM(according too CPU-Z) Corsair Vengeance LPX 3600 https://www.corsair.com/ww/en/Categories/Products/Memory/VENGEANCE-LPX/p/CMK16GX4M2Z3600C18

Hello. So I'm finalizing my build so that I can buy parts after lockdown but I'm not really a computer nerd nor do I know something about CPU specs and stuff. Which CPU is better? What am I going to do with the build anyway? Mostly gaming. Sometimes I use CAD for my work.

Hiya, I've tried the search function and reading the stickies, but there doesn't seem to be a way to find which ITX motherboards support Ryzen 3rd gen out of the box. I have seen plenty of websites with B450 ITX motherboards advertising 1st & 2nd gen, whereas the manufacturer says 3rd gen too... I know the prevailing wisdom seems to be "the stock will be newer by now and will therefore have newer BIOS" but I don't want to risk spending the £££ and end up with an unusable product. Returns are difficult at the moment with the covid lockdown in my country. Besides contacting the retailer (much more difficult due to holiday weekend where I live, and current covid situation) are there any sure-fire ways of knowing 100% for sure: Whether the motherboard BIOS can be updated without a CPU? Whether the motherboard I get delivered will support 3000 series? Many thanks in advance

Hi. Most people say that the 3600x is not worth the extra 50$ of the 3600. I think they're right, but, on amazon italy currently the difference s just of 5€... Is it worth it? I get bettere out of the box experience and a better stock cooler... if anyone has the 3600x with stock cooler please tell me temps Thank you in advance.

I currently have 2x8 gb 2666mhz ram from Corsair rgb pro vengeance, but I want to upgrade to a 64gb kit and I can’t work out if the price benefits of 2x(16x2) kits is better than 1x(4x16gb) kit. Speeds wise I’d have to go for 3200mhz if it was a 4x16 kit since on amazon it’s £398 compared to the £850 cost of a 3600mhz kit. However a dual kit of 2x16gb ddr4 3200 is only £174 and if I got 2 of them it would be cheaper than a quad kit, what’s better? Also bear in mind the prices are from rgb kits as I plan to move my pc to my desk at some point. Thanks

Newly build a computer with b450-f ,ryzen 3600, noctua cpu fan, corsair 16gb vengeance rgb, thermaltake toughpower gf1 750 watt, and gtx 1060. When I boot it the Asus logo rgb light is on, Ethernet flashes orange, and power supply fan is spinning lightly. gpu fan, cpu fan, and case fans are not spinning. Is there a qled on this board?? I checked the cables multiple times. The required bios is 2301. The sticker on the board says bios is 2605. What other troubleshootingcan I do? Thank you

Budget (including currency): £300 Country: UK Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Affinity, Fusion 360, Blender, Reality Capture, DaVinci Resolve... I'd love to get into VR for product visualisation too. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): So, I build a workstation when my existing system prevents me from progressing with my work. For my Intel 5960x, GTX 980, 16gb 2166 ram (I think), now is the time to upgrade as I can't render anything I'm now designing without hours passing. It's so hard to complete certain tasks now. I am an end to end brand designer which means designing products and producing the marketing visuals for those products, concept to market. My aim is to build another workstation that will last another 4-6yrs with maybe one GPU upgrade midway. I was lucky enough to grab an AMD 5950x at launch to pair with a x570 MSI MEG Unify (photo attached, not for cringe bragging, but just to show my request for info is genuine and not a fantasy build to waste anybody's time). I know exactly what I'll be putting in the system except the GPU and RAM. GPU will likely be Nvidia, but I'm waiting a few weeks for the availability to improve and also see if a 3080 with 20gb is going to come out. Like I said, I'm trying to build with a little more future proofing in the system. Spending a little more on a 20gb variant now might save a year or two on the next GPU upgrade therefore being better value. 3090 is not in budget. The RAM is the the main thing that's confusing me though, especially since the new Ryzen CPUs seem particularly performance sensitive to it... In the opinion of people on here, for RAM on 5950x with my intended workloads and use scenarios, would you go for 4400mhz c19 at 32gb, or 3600mhz c18 at 64gb? Both can be had within the system RAM budget. I'm guessing 4400mhz will unlock the 5950x more in my applications, but is that worth the trade-off for 32gb instead of 64gb? Which trade-off will I notice? Will I notice either? I don't know a whole lot about RAM. I'm competent enough to build a system and enable XMP, but I'm in no way an expert. I would also say that because this is a workstation that needs to be as reliable as a rising sun and bullet proof stable, I am not keen on overclocking components beyond auto 'one click' options or very mild manual tweaks. System will be air-cooled. Thanks in advance for any opinions.

So I have a 3080 paired with a 3600 and I have gotten interested in the idea of upgrading to B550/Ryzen 5600x. However, I never realized how little CPUs seem to matter when it comes to trying to increase performance when gaming at 1440p or 4K. Unless I'm looking at the wrong videos, the benchmarks I'm seeing show best case scenarios of an increase of maybe 10fps in some games if I was to upgrade from the 3600. Would a move to 5600x be pointless if I'm gaming at 4k? Also, what about the people who say to not buy 6 cores headed into this new console generation? Would a move to 5800x make more sense? Thanks for any advice!

Hello there, I posted earlier today but got no answer. I think I posted in the wrong place and for that I'm sorry. Hopefully this is the right place. I want to upgrade from a 1600x to a 3600 but I fear stability issues on my b350 board, because I started to have some after the bios upgrade. Config: MB - Gigabyte AB350 gaming 3 CPU - 1600x PSU - Seasonic S12II 620W RAM - Corsair Vengeance LPX Black 16GB DDR4 3000MHz CL15 Dual Channel Kit GPU - RX580 4GB A few days ago I flashed my bios to the latest one (F51b) from the first one (F3), following all steps: 1. Updated windows 2. Installed latest AMD chipset drivers 3. Installed bios in the specific order from the documentation. Issue 1) 1600x has problems reaching 4.1ghz which it did before: Checked in aida64 during a stress test and the 1600x no longer boosts to 4.1ghz, instead it stays stuck at 3.7ghz on all cores all the time. Does the same thing in gaming, never reaches 4.1ghz. However when I'm not gaming or doing anything in particular I can see it spike at 4.1ghz occasionally in aida64 statistics. Issue 2) BSOD: The first day after I got a couple of blue screens, nothing major, everything seemed to be Ok-ish. I started getting them today as well out of nowhere. I have no idea what's causing them. I also gamed for two 4 hour sessions and didn't have any issues, but when I'm just browsing the web it sometimes BSODs. I will try to scan the QR code next time. How do I fix this? Will I have the same issue with the 3600? Already ordered a new PSU: Super Flower Leadex III Gold, 80+ Gold, 750W in preparation for a new GPU (50$ msrp variation 3070 or 6800) Thank you!!
