Hello forum, my mainboard (Asrock p67 extreme 4) seems to have died and I need a new one. Linus said time and time again that the mainboard choice does not really matter for performance so I looked for a cheap board that could house my hardware: i5-2500k Sapphire R9 380X Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) RAM Samsung 830 Pro (I think) SSD (so it should have Sata III) However I found the choices quite confusing (all the different chipsets and such). I thought about just buying the same model I already had just because I know it works but wanted to ask you guys first about your opinion. I don't have any special requirements. What should I go with? Can you recommend a cheaper mainboard that works with my hardware? Thanks, Hendrikto

So I bought a 980 ti Hydro copper and when running that my pc won't boot, when running onboard GPU I can see the card in device manager. But when in the device manager I get Error 43. I've tried about everything, installed drivers, different PCIE slots, changed boot to UEFI (from Legacy+UEFI), Tried the card in a second PC (A 2011 socket MB), different PSU (Silverpower 750 PSU), clean windows 8.1 install. I first thought it was the card, but this is the second card i get (the first I RMA), but the problem continues. Ofc it could be just two busted cards, but then I would be really unlucky. My system: i7 3770 CPU MSI Z77A-G45 MB 16 GB Kingston HyperX RAM Two SSD's Two HDD's RM 750 PSU

Hi, I have just bought a second hand Intel Core i5-3470 and a GTX 670. This will be the processor of my budget pc build. Now I am looking for a budget motherboard for it, which is available in Norway. I will not be using any of the pci slots except for one for graphic card. I wont be overclocking either. I will be using a WD blue 1 TB HDD, no SSD. Here is a list of 1155 motherboards available to me here in Norway. The price is in NOK. I want the motherboard to be no more expensive than 600-650 NOK. Do you have any suggestion which one is best for me from that list. My personal favourite is the MSI H61M-P31/W8. It costs 450 NOK only. Does that board have any problem with it. Would you recommend it? Any other tips? Thanks very much!

I am looking to build a hackintosh but my motherboard just died. Since 1155 motherboards are in high demand it is hard to find one for a a normal price considering they are around 3 years old. I am looking at getting some type of motherboard that is hackintosh compatible and I was wondering if anybody would be willing to sell me one through paypal.

So right now, I'm sitting on parts that are 3 years old that haven't been changed, except the GPU which I've had for 2.5 years. So I don't know if I should be upgrading that either. CPU however is my main concern. As of now I'm looking to stream mild-intensive games at 720p, 30-60 FPS. I confirmed I can stream at 720p/60fps games like league/minecraft very well. CSGO is harder, I can't stream 60 FPS but it isn't really a problem since 30 is just fine for me. It's probably my dual core i3 holding me back so I would like i5 quad since it's not expensive and it's probably the next best thing. But since there are newer CPU sockets out right now and skylake is coming I don't know what to upgrade really. Here are my current parts: CPUi3-2120 @ 3.3 GHz w/ stock cooler MotherboardASUS P8H61 LX PLUS mini-ITX RAM8GB HyperX Blu @ 1600 MHz GPUASUS GeForce GTX 660 CaseCooler Master K350 Mid-Tower PSUXFX 550w So all I really need are some opinions on what would be best for the money. I'm really looking to upgrade about $300-400 worth of parts and I'm not really sure if there are some good new CPU/MOBO combos with the new hardware or if I even should upgrade that much anyway. I've been looking for 3570k's to buy but I can't seem to find a reliable source so if someone can find a seller in Ontario or in Canada general I would be super grateful.

I've never overclocked before and decided it's about time I try. I have a 3770K so I'm fallowing this tutorial. Simple overclocking is easy enough to understand. What I don't understand is how to test my system stability each time I change something. Linus only says to run Prime 95 for 24-48 hours. I can only amuse he means after you've dialed in your overclock. Otherwise it would take weeks to overclock if you had to do that every time you uped the CPU ratio… so how do I test for stability after each tweak?

Hello all, I was looking for a cheap 1155 motherboard to go with my locked i5. Would this (http://www.ebay.com/itm/DELL-OPTIPLEX-790-MOTHERBOARD-D28YY-SYSTEM-MAIN-BOARD-LGA-1155-/281691217382?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item41961adde6) be suitable? I don't need any fancy features so this would seem OK to go with. What do you guys think?

It's time for another one of my giveaway builds, however this time I'm finally getting to have some fun myself before I launch it off to a better home. For all the OCing experience I have on X58, X99, and Z87/97 I completely missed the boat on the "golden age" of OCing -Sandy/Ivy. Now is roughly the sweet spot to buy in on used parts, CPU's have a considerable amount of life left in them, and go for roughly 50-75% of original cost w/K & X SKU's. As such, I've already purchased these components: Components already purchased/delivered: ASUS P8Z77-V LX (one bent pin) $42.99 shipped Intel Pentium G645 -Sacrificial CPU to test bent pin fix, and OC ability of the board, guaranteed not DOA $28.99 shipped x6 20x20x10mm Aluminum Heat Sinks for the VRM's $5.94 shipped Alphacool 360mm Rad & EK Res bought here on the forum for $115 shipped Kingston V300 128GB SSD -MBR corrupted, SSD might be blown itself, could do RMA if necessary, will use as game drive (file system not corrupt) -Donor from another build- x3 WD 300-500GB HDD's -donors from another build- debating RAID options To be purchased/planned purchases: 2500k, 2600k, 2700k, 3570k, or 3770k Really any of those listed for under $140 for an i5 or under $185 for an i7 is the goal. If I get a chip that bins below 4.5GHz it's going right back up on ebay where it came from. Worst case scenario if I stick to those price limits is losing out on shipping cost of resale. Swiftech MCP655, Advance LRT tubing (blue -matches board-), BitFenix fittings, XSPC or EK blocks R9 280X -minimum- EVGA 750w B2 Phanteks Enthoo Pro -painted to match board Overall Game plan: I'll have most of the components cycling through the test bench to make sure that I can repair the bent pins, and that the board/VRM's will hold up to the OCing. While all that is happening I'll be painting/mocking up the case and sourcing a GPU with various watercooling parts. I'm hoping that I can get some decent OC's going and use the build as a Cinebench rental program for neglected sandy/ivy chips  . Overall budget is less than $475 from the "To be purchased" list. Don't care if they're new or used, as long as they work. If anyone has input on the various components/plan I'd appreciate it. Always could use a good sanity check.

I'm giving my buddy the processor in my old pre-built desktop that I'm not planning on using anymore. It's an i7-3770, but I want to help him pick out a new motherboard because I never like the cheap boards included in pre-builts. Newegg's selection has dropped dramatically and I'm not seeing anything I really like just yet. Has anyone found any good deals on an 1155 socket motherboard somewhere else reliable? New, not used, per his preference. We don't need overclocking since it's a non-K model, but we want high-speed RAM support (2133 MHz would be great), the possibility for SLI in the future, and good quality parts. We're looking for regular ATX size. WiFi is a bonus for flexibility, but unnecessary. The budget's anywhere between $80 to $160 or so. Thank you to anyone that's able to help out.

Intel socket 1150 cooler (from i7-4790K) fit on socket 1155 i5?
Guest posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Hi, I have a spare Intel stock cooler from a i7-4790K, can I use this on a CPU on socket 1155? (I recently acquired a i5-2400S however I have no cooler for it) Thanks, Fuss. -
Alright so after deciding that I won't upgrade to haswell or skylake when they come out, I decided to get a Z77 motherboard, because I already have a OC capable CPU, I just need the motherboard I currently have a GA-H77-DS3H mobo anyways here are my options AsRock Z77-OC-Formula MSI Z77 MPOWER AsRock Z77 Extreme 4 Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H one more question I have a cooler master T4 CPU cooler what kind of overclock I'm expecting? and on what voltage? thanks I will be responding when I'm back home!

My brand new r9 280x is for some reason incompatible with my h61 motherboard. (My 280x works just fine). So that is why i am looking for a new board. And as the title says, it has to be a b75 motherboard, because they are inexpensive compared to other types of motherboards.

Hi All! I'm looking to swap my mid tower rig into a smaller case, probably going to get the Corsair Carbide air 240, but I'm struggling to find a motherboard. I have an i5 2500k. Can anyone recommend a mid-range mATX or ITX motherboard? Do they still make motherboards with the LGA1155 socket? There doesn't seem to be much choice available

So i have finally decided to buy a new processor, the processor i am planning to buy is an i7 4790k with LGA1150. But i'm not 100% sure if it would fit since my current CPU is LGA1155. My current motherboard is a Z77-DS3H and if you look here http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4326#sp it says it has support for 1155 socket processors. And since the processor i am planning to buy uses LGA1150, would that fit on the motherboard? Thanks!

So I've ordered the following components from amazon: Motherboard: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007KZQE7Q?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00 Case: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00HVVGVZE?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00 4x HDD: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B008JJLW4M?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01 2x SSD: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007R67FTY?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01 SSD's will be in RAID 1 on the Sata 3 ports on the motherboard for the OS boot partition. Will be running Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard. The 4 HDD will be running in RAID 10 on the Sata 2 ports on the motherboard for mass storage/backups etc... My questions are: 1) Is it possible to hot swap the SSD's in and out; in the event that one fails. 2) Is it possible to hot swap the HDD's in and out; again in the event that one of them fails? My only previous experience with hot swapping drives has been in pre-built Dell OEM servers at work, never built one from scratch before. Thanks!

Recently I got my hands on an Alienware x51. The case is junk to me, same with the motherboard. Not to bash on Dell but, those custom motherboards really suck. Anyways, I still have an i5 2500k 3.7 GHz turbo Sandy Bridge processor. My plan was to build a very nice mini gaming tower, using the Prodigy M case. After looking around, with the socket of the processor at 1155, this limits my options on good motherboards. I wanted the Asus Maximus V Gene (ROG) but they don't make them anymore, any ideas on good Motherboards in the price range of $100-230? Thanks

Hello, Is there any risks of damage the socket's pins by installing a heavy heatsink of 870 grammes ? This is my Scythe Mugen 2 Revision B 2100 model on my MSI Z77A-GD65. I had it installed for two years, and a week ago I had to sent my mainboard back to RMA. The error was 55 on the debut led that means something about the ram happend, and, clearing the cmos was impossible because I couldn't even do it before while the mainboard was alive.
