Linus Sebastian inspired me to do scrapyard wars. So I got this Intel Core i3 530 PC for free from my mother's office. It comes with 8GB of RAM and a Nvidia GT210 GPU. After a month I managed to save $130 and bought myself an Asus Phoenix GTX 1050 GPU. Now I'm able to play my favorite games such as Need For Speed Most Wanted 2012, Need For Speed Rivals, Titanic Honor and Glory and Assetto Corsa over 60 FPS, ultra settings with 100% GPU usage at 1366x768p resolution. The problem is there are such games like GTA V, GTA IV, Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Simulator that yield to 50% or less GPU usage resulting to unplayable gameplay below 30 FPS. I suspect this is a CPU bottleneck. I plan to upgrade my Intel Core i3 530 to something newer that is available for free in the office, an Intel Core i3 4170 PC. Is it worth the upgrade? Will the newer CPU alleviate or put an end to the bottleneck? I need your comments, replies and suggestions from the Linus Tech Tips community. Thank you very much to all in advance!

So I bought a msi GTX 1050 (non ti) LP 2GB card and I never really used it. Its out of the return date and I want to sell it. The problem is, I'm not really sure what to ask for it. I've checked prices on eBay and they all seem a little high to me (around $140 USD) so what should my asking price be? its barely been used and I have the box and all the parts that came with it. (I paid $109 for it btw I think it might have been on sale when I bought it.)

My friend recently picked up a gtx 1050 to put into his older system that he got on Kijiji for cheap. It has an Intel core 2 quad q8400, and 6gb of ddr2. For some reason he's running CS:GO at 40fps. I'm thinking there's a CPU bottleneck. Do you guys think that the CPU or the RAM are bottlenecking the 1050? Or could it be something else like the PCIe bus on an lga 775 motherboard just not being fast enough to keep up with that card?

I have a GTX1050Ti in my inventory that was given to me from a friend. I currently have a 960, so I want to use it to upgrade. However, there's one big problem: The card was previously short circuited. They brought it back to their seller and got a new card since they had warranty, and gave up the "broken" one to mine, so I'm hoping anyone in the community knows a way to fix a short circuited card. It'll SOMETIMES work and give output, but most of the time there's no signal from the card. Fans will spin though. I'm thinking it's the outputs that's been broken. And yes, I've tried all the sockets. Details on how it happened: My buddy plugged in his Nintendo Switch OUTPUT cable (the cable you'd plug into your TV) into the HDMI INPUT of the card. I'm assuming the two signals mixed and went kerplowey?

Hi Everyone, I recently bought a Dell XPS 15 9560 with a beautiful 4K screen, intel 630 graphics and a GTX 1050 GPU. It's generally working well, though I noticed in MSI Afterburner yesterday that the GTX 1050 seems to be turning on an off at roughly 1 second intervals even when its not being used by any programs according to the NVidia Control Panel. With NVidia Inspector I was able to see that it's only cycling between 0% and 1% load repeatedly, but it just strikes me as odd that it would do so even when I'm only looking at the desktop, where the Intel HD 630 should be doing all the work and the GTX 1050 should be entirely disabled. Is this normal? Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can disable the GPU completely when it's not being used by a program that really needs it? I am not particularly concerned about degrading my hardware since it's only being used a very small amount, but it seems like it might adversely affect my battery life, which is sort of annoying. Any advice or ideas you have would be greatly appreciated .

Hello, I wanted to see what people thought of the HTPC build i've recently completed. Obviously due to case i'm limited for certain graphics options; however this was something that the wife wanted to not be an eyesore so keep this in mind. Reasons for building: Replacement of the Blu-Ray drive that was beginning to die Multifunctional PC for browsing the internet, being a Plex server to host all of my media, and routing streaming services (Netflix/hulu/spotify, etc) through my 7.1 home theater amp. Occasional gaming in HD (1080P, with the ability to upgrade for 4k gaming at a later point if needed). Neat, organized and simple, not a big eyesore and small form factor case to blend in to A/V equipment. My result is the following parts list from PCPartPicker: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/amorshc/saved/sPfRBm While PCPartPicker shows a sticker cost of $1,300+USD, actual cost was nearing $550 (After MIR, discounts, etc.). Here's the price breakdown 3 weeks after the i5-7600k was released to the market and retailers I purchased from: Intel Core i5-7600K $159.96 - Micro Center - Open Box ASRock Z170m Extreme 4 $92.48 - NewEgg Open Box - $30 MIR = $62.48 Total (After MIR) MSI GTX 1050 2GT LP $96 - Ebay - $20 MIR - $76 Total (After MIR) SK Hynix SC300 $40.00 - Ebay Corsair CX600M $40 - Ebay LG UH12NS30 $35 - Ebay Lian Li PC-C37B $65 - Local seller Logitech K400 $19.99 - Fry's - Sale price Artic Freezer 11LP $15.55 - Amazon Warehouse sale (Returned due to not performing correctly, defective) Scythe Big Shuriken 2 RevB $22.40 - Amazon Sale (*Replaced the Artic Freezer 11LP, refund applied to this purchase) (Total cost was $6.85) Patriot Extreme Viper Elite 8GB DDR4-3200Mhz kit $50.75 - Amazon Warehouse Deal (Ended up RMAing the memory, due to one stick being DOA), replacement from Patriot was the Patriot Viper 4 DDR4-3200Mhz as they were out of stock of the VE kits) The Apevia fans below were included in my case, I already had Windows 10, the thermal paste and the 5TB external I purchased years ago, so I did not factor these into the actual cost. Over all I don't think it's a half bad multifunctional PC that will allow me to play Blu-ray's, stream media both to and from the PC, and occasional gaming. Any recommendations/upgrades anyone would suggest, I would love to hear the thoughts on this. Also keep in mind that if I was going to change cases, I would want something smaller than the PC-C37 case while not being a "Tower" It needs to be similar sized or smaller than a home theater amplifier or large boot shoe box. I'll upload photos of this later as I don't have the PC build process with me.

I'm super indecisive, and I want to pick between these two cards. Is the Ti worth the $45 difference? It's more future proof, but is that more future proof? I'm coming from an HD 7570, and I usually play games like Fractured Space, War Thunder, and World of Warships. Maybe a couple of AAA games, but mostly those listed. Playing at 1080p only. MSI GTX 1050 OC 2G ($85) https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814137058&cm_re=msi_1050-_-14-137-058-_-Product EVGA GTX 1050 Ti SC ($130) https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487291 A quick response would be great since I want the card this week Thanks EDIT: There a couple of 960s for $100 on ebay

Hey So I have a Acer Z3-105 which can run most games I "ok" (And by ok I mean anything under 775MB Of Vram can run 30fps on low) Today my Gigabyte GTX 1050ti arrived. I plan to put it into my new computer in a couple of months. My question is could I put it into my Z3-105. First off I know it already has a AMD A6 APU which could cause problems. Secondly I also know that it probably wont fit. If some one could just give me a no or a yes with a few instructions that would be great

first things first: I bought a Dell optiplex off an ebay refurbisher and I got played. The image showed an optiplex 7010 wich should have a 3rd generation i5 (and USB 3) however what I got is an optiplex 790: 2nd gen i5 and no USB 3 I was planning to put a gtx 1050 ti lp. But that would cover both pci slots not allowing me to install a USB 3 card. Conclusion: is there anyway to mod the gtx 1050 ti low profile into a single slot card so I can install it along with a USB 3 card?

Hello, I bought a Dell Inspiron 15 (7559) around Christmas of 2016 as an upgrade from my old Toshiba Satellite; I was getting more into video production (Premiere, After Effects etc.) so I needed something a little better and efficient than the Satellite. Since the Inspiron had a GTX 960M, i7 6700HQ, 8G DDR3, 1T HDD etc., it was great for all my needs. It ran me $699 on Dell's website during their sale. ($799 Laptop everywhere else) Now, I recently I ran into the ASUS15.6" FX Series Gaming Notebook; has an i7 7700HQ, 8G DDR4, 128GB M.2 SSD +1T HDD, GTX 1050 GPU etc. (Advertised for $849) https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1321774-REG/asus_fx53vd_es74_i7_7700hq_16gb_1tb_gtx1050.html I was wondering if selling my Inspiron 15, paying off the difference and getting the ASUS 15.6" FX Series Gaming Notebook for the increased performance out of the GTX 1050 and other components would be worth the money and hassle? Thanks.

Hi! DELL put the 1050 in their new XPS 15 instead of the 1050 TI. Benchmark at notebookcheck is already out showing that the notebook 1050 is slower than a 965m and only 20% better than the 960m. The 1050 ti is 50-60% faster than the 960m as early leaks have showed. If these benchmarks are correct then why the hell did they choose the non TI variant when they share the same TDP. I´ve been waiting on a slim businesses looking laptop with good battery life and graphical power to play most games at 1080p 60fps+ and thought the DELL XPS 15 9560 would be the one.... http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mainstream-Pascal-GeForce-GTX-1050-Ti-and-GTX-1050-in-Review.189822.0.html

This EVGA 1050, as you see in pictures, has a space for a 6pin connector, but it isn't there. I am going to solder one on from an old card. It will be great (I hope).

Hey guys, My brother is looking to build his own pc he's asked me what graphics card to get and I'm not sure with all the cards that are out now. Here's a list of stuff he's bought and or is about to buy. https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/cT8Fm8 He seems to want a GTX 10 series card. Only the GTX 1060 6gb and lower though. He doesn't want to spend to much more and I'm wondering if he got a 1050 ti how much of a performance hit would be taken. Uses : gaming(overwatch, wow, Skyrim, LoL.) and to watch Netflix and movies. Thanks, Nicks A.k.a chippers

Hey I am looking to upgrade my pc and I am looking at a graphics card as I know my ram is good at 16gb 2133MHz ddr4, and I am pretty sure my cpu is good enough for what I want to do (gaming) it is an intel 6400 sky lake. I want to play games (for example doom) on high settings (1080p) so would a 1050 ti be good for that at a decent frame rate (70+) or would I need the better 1060 3gb thanks ?

Hello everyone! I was wondering if the upgrade from 750ti, that I own right now, to 1050 would be worth it? I bought Ryse: Son of Rome on Winter sale on Steam and I'm getting really terrible fps drops Or maybe it's my processor? AMD Athlon X4 860K (non OC). My rig: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/QFxdnn
