looking for laptop recommendations for going back to school but also gaming capable, around $1000 or less. Starting my first year of college and I want a possibly gaming laptop to use for college. An important thing for me though is looks, I do not want a "gamer" looking laptop. A sleek and thin laptop that is gaming capable would be the best for me, with also decent build quality. I don't really plan on playing triple A games or hard to run games, and I don't expect a beast laptop at around $1000.

Budget (including currency): $1000 USD Country: California, USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): My friend would like a Windows key and a WiFi USB adapter. He does not have Ethernet. He would also like RGB, mainly on the RAM. I did build a PC: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ZdHk9r

comparison Need a gaming laptop under $1000
kavish_008 posted a topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
I need a laptop under $1000 (inr70000). My usage will look something like Ableton Live, autocad, coding and a bit of gaming (assassin creed , gta) I am thinking about getting a 3050 based but I am confused. Rn I am looking at HP victus , Asus tuf gaming f15 and Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 though they r pretty similar I am really confused. YouTube reviews concludes that hp has a better typing experience (keyboard), Asus has better build, and Lenovo have 1 year accidental warrenty.- 3 replies

I am looking for a bit of advice or counseling so to speak on what I should look for or expect in a gaming laptop $1,000 USD or less. I need the laptop able to run most titles on low or medium settings at or above 60 fps while streaming or recording software is running. I honestly do not know what I should look for or expect to be good at this price concerning laptops. I would also like to edit videos and graphics at a stable a decent quality as well as a bit of music production at times. I also really do not want to go any less that 16gigs RAM and run SSDs only ngl. Some points I would say are needed to touch on would be: -Processor and clock speeds -Acceptable GPUs -Storage -Just every spec and part in the laptop is in question. I really want to make a informed decision and not get screwed out of the absolute best at the available price. I until now have not had anything better that pre-owned user referbished $250 old office laptops to game on. I have an out and do not want to settle. It needs performance and to be honest a little shine wont hurt given it would be nice if it felt good as well. Thanks for any and all help and advice ahead of time. Linus really likes to hype this forum so I want to see if it was worth the account creation given this is my first time creating an account on any forum. I only ever just scour forum after forum without accounts for any information or research. Given it would always be a colossal waste to make an account for every forum I come across given the dozens of unique issues I have or would have, I never do. Today is full of first for me. Please be gentle. EDIT: MADE THE FONT BIGGER. IT WAS HARD TO READ ON MOBILE.

Hey all, one of my friends has been a console gamer all his life and recently decided to try out PC gaming since all of his friends are playing on PC due to the virus. He reached out asking for help building his first PC with a budget of $1000. He isn't very tech savvy, but I figure if he watches some YouTube videos and has come common sense (and maybe a friend there to help him out) he should be fine. He asked if it could include the monitor, keyboard, and mouse. As far as I know, he plans on using it for school and gaming, no editing or streaming. Not sure what games he plays, but I'd imagine he'd like to be able to play anything he can play on Xbox on PC. Here is what we made while talking about what he needed: PCPartPicker Part List Type Item Price CPU AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor $172.76 @ Walmart Motherboard ASRock B450 Pro4 ATX AM4 Motherboard $79.99 Memory Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-2400 Memory $67.99 @ Newegg Storage Western Digital Blue 500 GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive $69.99 @ Newegg Storage Seagate Barracuda Compute 2 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive $54.98 @ Newegg Video Card MSI Radeon RX 5700 8 GB MECH OC Video Card $301.99 @ Newegg Case Fractal Design Focus G ATX Mid Tower Case $62.98 @ Newegg Power Supply EVGA BQ 600 W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply $74.45 @ Walmart Monitor MSI Optix G241 23.8" 1920x1080 144 Hz Monitor $189.99 Keyboard Corsair K55 RGB Wired Gaming Keyboard $49.88 @ Amazon Mouse Logitech G203 Prodigy Wired Optical Mouse $32.65 @ Amazon Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts Total (before mail-in rebates) $1177.65 Mail-in rebates -$20.00 Total $1157.65 Generated by PCPartPicker 2020-04-29 01:24 EDT-0400 I'd appreciate any general advice about the build, but also have one specific question: On PCPartPicker, it says there could be potential incompatibility issues between the CPU and motherboard because the mobo might need a driver update. Does this model have this issue? He wouldn't have a spare second gen Ryzen CPU sitting around.

Hello! New member here, and I need some help from those more tech savvy than myself. I’m looking into building my own PC. I have very little experience with any under the hood technology stuff, but I’m committed to learning and doing the damn thing. I’ve recently had a lot of big changes in my life and I’m looking to get back into what I’m passionate about, in which gaming is a huge part. I used to love PC gaming when I was younger (and had a machine to do it on...), but with money troubles, kids, and life in general, I’ve gotten out of the groove. I wanna dive headfirst back into it. My budget would be around $1000 with a little wiggle room, maybe $100-$200 more but if it can be avoided I’d prefer that. I’d be playing mainly RPGs like Skyrim, ESO, WOW, Dragon Age etc etc, along with some video editing. I’m going to have a laptop for daily tasks and school work so this PC will solely be for graphically intensive tasks, & I’m sure some corners can be cut in that respect. I’d need the full setup, moniter, keyboard, mouse & all. I definitely want a case with a glass window so I can admire my handiwork for years to come, along with having some aesthetic RGB decor. When I say I have nothing, I mean it. I’m gonna be buying not just the parts for my build, but the tools as well.. so recommendations for all that is definitely necessary. I’ve been consuming tons of build guides and other media on PC building, so I have a basic idea of the task ahead, but I’m still trying to get a better understanding on the parts I’ll need to buy and what will fit my specific use case the best. I don’t want to overpay for a prebuilt machine, and I’m willing to put the work in to get my machine exactly how I want it. In the future I’ll definitely want to get a VR headset (Oculus Rift S or Quest, haven’t decided which yet), so I’d need my PC to be able to handle that. Alright, I think that’s about it. I’m all ears (or rather, eyes) and willing and ready for all help/input/advice. This is gonna be a long journey, and I’ll probably make some mistakes along the way, so y’all will be seeing my name around here a lot. Thanks guys, let me know what y’all think!!

So it's time to upgrade my i5 2500k, and this seems like a good time of year to do so. Most of the insides of my rig are about 9 years old so yeah.... I'm gonna be keeping some things, but replacing most of the guts. The GPU is staying the same for now, as I'll likely upgrade that bit next year when Nvidia releases their 3000 series cards. I mostly game, though typically running 2 games at a time while watching 1-2 HD streams on my second monitor. case - Thermaltake Armor + HDD - got a couple of those already GPU - EVGA GTX 970 4GB SSC PSU - OCZ ZX-Series 850w fully-modular Gold+ Here's the parts I've got lined up. Thoughts? Feedback? This is my first time even considering team red, everyone I know has always been team blue. Will the Wraith Prism stock cooler suffice? Overall the upgrade definitely has to stay under $1000 (also I'm in the US by the way) but I sure wouldn't mind keep it under $900 if possible haha. Saving a bit here will go towards my GPU next year! I need a ultrabook to take into school. Basic note taking and programming applications. Display needs to be sharp. Already have a desktop and gaming laptop at home. I was considering the basic model of the MacBook Air or even Pro. Any other suggestions? Dell XPS? Not considering Huawei products as a option. $1000 seems a good starting point, no more than $1300.

Hey LTT community! I have a tight budget of $1000 for my next build. It'll be mainly used for gaming and programming. I've thrown a quick list together and want your opinions! I would prefer to keep a white theme, but I'm open to anything! I'm using 14k monitor. I know that's kinda dumb but I'm a guy that prefers 4k 30fps Ultra than 1080p 144fps high. I have a 1Tb HDD from an old laptop that I'll throw in as well. Thanks! 1. Budget & Location My budget is as close to $1000 max as possible but willing to go over if worth it. I will be building this towards the end of February or early March with my tax return. (no longer true, buying parts today) 2. Aim I plan on using the computer for general daily use of browsing, Discord, streaming and games(mostly rpg, but a variety will be played, games like LOL or DOTA wont be played though). I will also do some audio recording on the side but as far as I am aware that doesnt take much pc side. 3. Monitors I plan on eventually running two 1080p or 1440p monitors at 144hz but not required right now if it wont fit in budget. I have a 1080p 60hz monitor right now. 4. Peripherals I already have keyboard, mouse, speakers, webcam and mic. For my OS I will be using windows as my main drive and I will have a dual boot option for linux on a separate drive. 5. Why are you upgrading? I am upgrading because my current laptop is quite old and not capable of running most games let alone minecraft. Parts that I already have and will be reusing in the new build: 2 500gb SSD (windows on 1 and linux on the other) 1 Be Quiet Pure 600 PC case Edit: I ended up ordering parts today, here is the list of parts that will be in my rig https://pcpartpicker.com/user/kazukokat/saved/6jbmqs

My budget is $1000 US and I would greatly appreciate your help coming up with a build surrounding these components. AMD 2700x CPU + 1050ti + 32GB (16x2) RAM. If you could do that it would really help me out. I don't peripherals or OS and I am looking to order from NewEgg. Thank you so much and I am looking forward to any responses

Hello, I'm a college student approaching graduation and I'm looking to finally replace my gaming PC. Between school and gaining different interests, I find myself not gaming much anymore, and when I do, it's usually less intensive games like Rocket League or Dota 2. I'm finding it harder and harder to justify keeping my PC when I could have something much more portable and power efficient that will do what I need it to do. Budget Based on some quick research, I think I could get $800-$1000 by selling my PC, monitor, and current (cheap) laptop. (Side note: would it be better to sell my PC in parts or as a pre-built?) I'm willing to pay around $200 out of pocket to supplement this but would prefer to keep that to a minimum. So, that's the price range I'm working in. What I Need Good Keyboard: I'm not completely sure what I'll be doing for a living, but there's a good chance it will involve a lot of writing, so I want a good keyboard that I can use for long periods of time without trouble. I have a mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX Browns right now, which I don't really like that much. I find myself regularly hitting multiple keys and it's a little tricky to feel where the key actually activates. Photo Editing: I do some graphic work right now, so I want to be able to use Photoshop and Illustrator without much trouble. It doesn't have to be lightning fast, but I need it to work. Longevity: I would like to be able to use this laptop for at least 5 years if not longer to justify the cost. I'm not the kind of person that needs the newest technology all the time. What I Would Like Upgradeability: To help with the longevity, being able to upgrade some components myself would be nice. If the laptop is good enough, this might not be necessary. Some Gaming Capability: The built-in GPU should be able to handle some games. Specifically Rocket League, Dota 2, Overwatch, Fortnite, etc. Medium settings is fine as long as the FPS is good enough. This could also be fulfilled by being compatible with an external GPU that I could purchase at a later date. Portability: I would want to be able to take this with me so I can do work on the go. A thin-and-light would be nice, but as long as it's not really chunky I'm okay. What I have so far The strongest contender for me right now is the LG Gram. I've heard great things about the keyboard as well as its upgradeability. It is on the high end of my price range, but I think it might be worth it. I was also looking at the Surface lineup, mostly because of the keyboard. I am worried I wouldn't be able to afford a model that would have the specs I want. I have also read some good reviews of the Dell XPS 13, but don't know much about them. Any advice on what to buy, how to sell my gaming PC, or if I should wait for new computers to be released is appreciated. Thanks!

Hello to whoever is reading this, I decided to finally switch over from a laptop that I’ve had for several years now, the main reason why I’m deciding to build a pc is because my laptop can no longer handle any games I run without overheating or seeing low FPS/Drops. The Pc Rig that I hope to build will be mainly used for Gaming and other everyday uses(School Work, Web browsing) that won’t put such a work load on my pc. I put together a pc part list linked below. As for what advice and help I’m looking for is either a whole new build which can fit my budget of $1000 you can go over $100 or $200 if it improves performance and better for the long run, or exchange parts in my current build that can help reach my budget goal. As for the games I will be running are CS:GO, GTA V, Fortnite, Gmod. Main concerns -Good Airflow -Overclocking -High, Ultra or Max settings (on games) -No serious FPS Drops/Bottlenecking I will be responding immediately to any questions if I am available Thank you for helping and taking time out of your day PCPartPicker part list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/qJydFt Price breakdown by merchant: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/qJydFt/by_merchant/ CPU: Intel - Core i5-8600K 3.6GHz 6-Core Processor ($238.99 @ Amazon) CPU Cooler: Deepcool - GAMMAXX 400 White 74.3 CFM CPU Cooler ($37.99 @ Amazon) Motherboard: Asus - Prime Z370-A ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($169.06 @ Amazon) Memory: G.Skill - Trident Z 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Memory ($164.99 @ Newegg) Storage: ADATA - Ultimate SU800 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($54.99 @ Newegg Marketplace) Storage: Seagate - Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($57.99 @ Amazon) Video Card: Zotac - GeForce GTX 1080 8GB AMP!
