  1. Thanks, and i realize different countries have drastic ways of handling secondary/higher education. Yes, E-readers are definately allowed on the campus i'm attending. I was speaking from my misguided study of U.K. secondary ed. system because that's the one i know a tiny bit about LOL. I think i'm going to buy some from the college bookstore because they're cheaper used and a few texts i can get for way dirt cheap on ebay.
  2. I live in the United States, so I realize that people in the U.K. and other european countries can get their texts for free or much much cheaper. You're all lucky that you don't have to pay, but at the same time it can be pretty hard to get into your universities, as well as, the permanent record associated with such a system. Not being able to retake classes would suck
  3. What's cheaper and why. Either buying college texts from an second hand shop/bookstore, or getting an ereader; such as, an Ipad or google nexus 7 2 and renting the texts on there. How does the forum go about getting their college books?
  4. FIXED IT! :D thanks for the ideas, I got it figured out. 1. pulled out the newer card and slapped in the old card 2. BIOS splash screen came up and i was able to hit delete 3. BIOS update to the latest 1.7 w/ updated UEFI GOP and USB code 4. swapped out the cards again and fingers crossed the thing posts, but it's an extremely fast splash. You can't even see the splash screen with the newer card. 5. the light indicating on the usb keyboard my CM quickfire rapid lit up. 6. Bitch slapped the delete button, and got into the BIOS with the newer card installed and an updated BIOS 7. New card, and new BIOS. Is this a Win, Win? Only time will tell. Sorry Godly I could only pick one person for the best answer. Yours was good, but ee-nee-mi-nee-mo didn't work in your favor :/
  5. Got it. However, it may not be till Friday, or tommorow I've got work. It's late here as is, thanks for the help so far follow the topic, and i'll keep you all posted
  6. I've got a troubleshooting ol' odd nvidia 545 gt for this reason. In case I have to sort out problems like this. I think i'll swap cards for a second, and update the BIOS to 1.7 then swap back.
  7. was just about to say that. I'm on Win 7 64 bit
  8. Yes, I know how to get into the BIOS. I've tried spamming the key to get into the bios right as I start the start up the pc, but it doesn't even take me into BIOS. The key that lights up indicating the motherboard has recognized a usb device when the computer boots up no longer lights up. Thus, it doesn't take me into the BIOS. Also, SHould i just clear the CMOS and see what happens? Or put the old card in and get into the BIOS update it, and reswap cards?
  9. Recently I upgraded my graphics card from a EVGA 650ti SSC edition to a 7870 powercolor pcs+ LE. The problem is once I upgraded My Post screen on my Asrock 970 extreme 3 simply disapeared, and won't display on screen before booting straight into windows 7. Any speculation as to why this may be happening? I'd like to get into my UEFI BIOS for future upgrades. My guess is that on powercolor's website they suggested updating your BIOS to a version past October 2012 ish. The version I currently have BIOS version 1.6 it is not after October 2012, and does not suport "UEFI GOP." Apparantly a feature enabled on this card, and the newer BIOS 1.7. What should i do to start troubleshooting this problem?
  10. Okay, I'll try this method first. Run some benchmarks, stress test a little make sure everything is working normally. Continue to use the system as is, and then if problems persist whip out the ol' disc
  11. What i'm getting from this is maybe, and maybe not need to manually unistall just use driver sweeper (cuz it's simpler) and CCleaner registry cleaner. Hopefully (fingers crossed) it should resolve and remove any leftover driver install files/entires. If not i've always got my Win 7 disc *sigh* having to finally use optical media lol :o
  12. Hey Linustechips Forum, I'll be switching from a EVGA 650ti SSC to an AMD 7870 tahiti LE card, and since the two drivers may interfere with one another some people recomend using a cleanup program called "driver sweeper." Also, others recomend this method can cause missing DLL issues and other deletion of essential windows .INI files. When swapping out the cards the common concensus was 1. Unistall the drivers (nvidia) and all other nvidia related software, and restart 2. startup using safemode and run driver sweeper to avoid possible tampering with windows files, and restart alternative step 2. manually delete all nvidia drivers, files, dll related nvidia entries, and restart What is the best route to take? There has to be someone out there who is switching cards quite frequently, and I'd rather not reinstall my windows partition
  13. Thanks for the warning, I've actually bricked a board from a .exe BIOS update file provided by the manufacturer themselves! The hell right?
  14. Pretty sure that's what i'm going to do, no sense in bricking my MOBO before it shows up LOL. At Least there's the first thing i'll try when if it doesn't Post correctly with the card installed
  15. Hi All, hope your memorial day is going well! (if you live in the U.S.) Recently I purchased a powercolor 7870 Tahiti LE pcs+. In addition, I've been reading how some people have not been able to get it to boot because of an outdated BIOS not supporting UEFI My BIOS is the 1.6 (latest 1.7) and i've got a Asrock extreme 3 MOBO. Also, powercolor recomended on their FAQ part of their website to update your BIOS past October 2012. The BIOS version 1.6 is not past that date and 1.7 (released 10/18/2012) added compability for, 1. Support Windows 8. 2. Improve USB keyboard and mouse compatibility. Note: "Ultra Fast" is only supported by below conditions. 1. OS Windows 8 is installed on GPT format. 2. Graphics supports UEFI GOP. Would it hurt to update to the latest 1.7 which was released past october 2012? My CPU is supported by ALL of the BIOS releases, and should not create incompatability. That card shows up in a few days, and I'd like it to work when it gets here. Is it worth it to update my BIOS now, or go all redneck and be like "if it ain't broke don't fix it" then if it doesn't post go ahead and update to the newest BIOS 1.7? Thanks!
  16. Whoops *face palm* I thought you had a 7870 (for some reason). The 7870 LE is a definate and worthy step up, and if you want to upgrade now get the 7870 LE, or later and get the PSU then a 760ti at launch
  17. You have a 7870 reference card, and you already want to upgrade to a 7870 LE? tbh that's not much of an increase in performance http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/tahiti-le-7870-7930-benchmark,3401-3.html Unless you've got another rig to split the parts between I'd save my money for a different upgrade down the road. Yes, It can O/C (most likely) to the range of a reference 7950, but still it's up to you i guess. I'd listen to Stav Kats When upgrading your PSU I found this sweet deal on NCIX US (I don't know if you live here in the U.S.) http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=59616&vpn=P1650SNLB9&manufacture=XFX&promoid=1281 I'm going from a EVGA 650ti SSC edition to a 7870 LE card that's what i'd consider a much needed step up in performance.
  18. XFX is made by seasonic, and there's really no need for me to get a modular psu i'm not going to stare at my marvelous cable job
  19. Hi all, I'm currently using a corsair builder series 500 watt and am going to upgrade to better support an overclocked amd 965 @ 4.0ghz and a powercolor 7870 tahiti LE gpu. There's two PSUs that caught my attention this weekend, just wondering which one the forum believes is the better value. It's either this XFX core series 650 watt psu, or a rosewill Capstone series golld certified 650 watt XFX PSU http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=59616&vpn=P1650SNLB9&manufacture=XFX&promoid=1281 Rosewill PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182071 Due to the overclocks, and overall system requirements 500 watts is enough, but not by much I'd rather have some more breathing room.
  20. alright, thanks guys for putting my mind at ease
  21. In my current system I've got a EVGA 650ti SSC edition which I will be upgrading to a 7870 LE to either powercolor or sapphire versions. Right now my system my system specs are MOBO: asrock 970 extreme 3 PSU: Corsair builder series 500 watt Bronze certified CPU: amd phenom II 965 BE OC to 4ghz stable My case has 5 stock fans included with the rosewill blackhawk HD: WD caviar blue 500gb 7200rpm I'm upgrading because with my 1080p monitor a 650ti although overclocked just doesn't cut it for playing planetside 2, battlefield 3 (barely), and Far Cry 3. Plus Future proofing (albeit slightly) for possibly BF4 1. Can my PSU handle the extra power draw? or can you at least guess if it will or won't? I've tried to list the parts that make up most of the power draw. 2. Do i have to not only uninstall the nvidia drivers, but delete the registry entries and DLL files before switching camps 3. Should i go with the Sapphire or Powercolor version of the card? Any other general feedback is appreciated, thanks :)
