  1. Thanks for the reply. Unraid is where I'm thinking due to the various size of drives. My biggest is current 8tb but likely to need to get another one for parity. Does it have to be Nvidia gpu's or can you use AMD? as I have a rx 580 not in use currently. If thats the case with the CPU would as G4400 be okay with 8-16gb of ram? I have got a 250gb ssd which I was planning on using as again its not currently in use. I have seen some of byte my bits videos will look up space invader! Other uses if possible iPhone and android backups, maybe with time machine and also windows windows back up, but thats the main use cases.
  2. Hi All, Looking for some advise on upgrading my NAS. Currently running a core i3 3240T with a lonely 4gb of ram which has just about been doing the job. Currently got 8 hard drives of all different sizes running windows 10, used a day to day storage and back up and also a Plex media server. Now I'm feeling its time for an upgrade and don't really know where to start. I would also like to add some data redundancy into the mix as currently I have none. So I'm thinking os something like Unraid of FreeNAS but haven't used them and also am thinking I could do with adding hardware transcoding for Plex. Any help or advise on where to start looking would be great! Thanks
  3. Thank you for the replies. How can I get ahold of previous versions of the drivers as this was a fresh install of windows too so nothing to roll back too
  4. Hi All, I'm new to overclocking my gnu and thought id give it a try. I have installed the latest AMD drivers and afterburner but when I make any changes to the core or memory in afterburner everything stays at 300mhz and I don't understand why? Is there any reason why this would be happening? or am I doing something stupid. Thanks, Tim
  5. As the title suggests do low power CPUs eg: i7-4785t use less power than another i7? Or is it just the thermal output which is less? Thanks
  6. Thanks for the replies. Got it working now. For some reason I had to delete the settings from the router and start again then it was working.
  7. Hi, I'm fairly new to smart switches and using link aggregation and have encountered my first problem. I recently got a d-link dgs-1224t and have trunked 2 ports to my server now the wake on lan doesn't work from out side of my network. Inside it still works fine. Nothing else has changed however the same ports are forwarded to the correct IP address. Any suggestions? Thanks
  8. Hi, Im looking for a new switch which has 16+ ports so I don't need to have different devices plugged into different switches they can all be connected to the same switch. It needs to silent and preferably smart/managed. I have looked at the HP Procure 1800-24g which seams to be quite a good option. Any other suggestions? Thanks,
  9. Looking for a new network switch which will support link aggregation with at least 8 ports and not that expensive? Also needs to be quite.
  10. I haven't tried that. However, the drives would sometimes just drop off even when the computer was running, but this one happened when the management software was installed. I have done some research and it looks like the 2680sgl has some issues with windows power management including drive spin down. I have returned the 2680, so it looks like I need a different card, any suggestions? I am only looking for a HBA card no raid functions but will allow the drives to go to sleep when not in use. Thanks
  11. Thanks for the reply's. Do you have any idea why the drives would drop of the RocketRAID 2680SGL when the computer wake from sleep? It only seamed to happen when the rocket RAID web management was installed but this meant I couldn't put the drives to sleep?
  12. Hi, Im currently building a home server mostly for plex and as a home cloud for when my dad is travelling he can access it anywhere. Its running windows 10 which may not be the best choice of OS but its what is working for me currently and its easy if i need to talk my girlfriend through making sure everything is on and working so she can watch plex when I'm not there!! The issue i have/had is I bought a Highpoint 2680SGL raid card which fits nicely inside of the case a Silverstone DS380 but the drives would randomly drop off the card once the web gui was installed and wouldnt come back until the system was rebooted. There is no RAID on the server all the drives are in JBOD. What I'm looking for is a card that will fit inside this case but will also allow the drives to spin down when idle (have heard good things about the LSI 9211-8i flashed to IT mode, but not sure if it will fit?) So my question is whats the best way to run at least 8 HDD"s potentially up to 12 and one SSD that will allow the drives to spin down and put the system to sleep and allow it to wake up again and not lose any drives from the system? Many Thanks, Tim
