  1. OOOO For a good deal on a Desk Lamp look at the Tomons Wood Swing Arm Desk Lamp (originally $66.99, but typically around $36.99, is currently $26.99 with buy 2 get 15%off) I picked up the white one about a month ago. (comes in black, white and mint green) https://www.amazon.com/Tomons-Scandinavian-Swing-Wood-Table/dp/B016XWX3ES/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1499746720&sr=8-1&keywords=tommons%2Blamp&th=1
  2. Still having problems, even got new GPU 1080ti (it was testing and working in another computer).
  3. Yeah that's two of the possibilities I've thought of, but I don't really have a way of fully testing psu, as I don't just have another on hand and same for GPU (although granted I could try using igpu, but I'm afraid that would make it hard for me to want to do anything that would tax my system lol. Also, I have tried checking and swapping cables as well as reseating all the components. (multiple times, and rechecked after periods of time every now and then). PSU wise I feel like since EVGA is a reputable brand, it's gold rated and i have quite a bit of overhead even if we assume the recommended peak bellow 650w. additionally, as I pointed out the voltage graphs in numerous monitoring programs have shown very consistent voltage, with no spikes. I would like to clarify that after leaving aida64 running for 30ish mins, I saw a few much steeper drops of closer to 40%, but as I wasn't monitoring it at the time these bigger spikes although much more infrequent and seemed to be longer ones too, which means it probably was just black screened for a longer period.
  4. So I've had this reoccurring problem (as in multiple months, if not a year by now) where my PC will randomly hiccup/freeze up, and/or black screen (no video signal detected by monitor) for a couple seconds randomly. It normally only seems to happen when my PC is under moderate to heavy load (ie. heavy benchmarks or gaming), all my drivers are installed/ updated, I've reformed drives and reinstalled windows, overclocked and underclocked everything, and I've tried running things with the bare minimum in the background. When my system goes back to normal shortly after there are almost no real signs of a problem, for the most part, it just resumes right where I left off like nothing happened: No high temps, No dropped voltage, No artifacts. The most that ie been able to pick up on is that whenever it does happen the only sign of it having ever happened is a few % dip in Cpu usage right at the moment of black screening, and in overwatch, I'll get a rendering "Rendering Device has been lost. Application is closing." although I'm fairly certain any other game will just resume after the hiccup like it never happened. Besides it only seeming to happen under load there seems to be no other trigger I can personally find through monitoring the system; It's not even fairly consistent, some days it can never occur, others I can't even play Overwatch for longer than a couple min periods. Does anyone have any input on how I can isolate the problem, and perhaps even fix it? I don't even know what kind of files or screenshots might be of use, but if you think it might be useful just name it, and I'll try and upload it. Specs: windows 10 64bit Intel i7-4770 (cooled by a 212 evo) Msi z97 SLI krait edition (bios A.7) 16gb ddr3 ram (generic Samsung workstation memory) Evga reference Nvidia gtx 650ti boost Evga SuperNova 650w PSU Vision Tek racer SSD (450gb) and random wd 450gb
  5. Im currently using a cheapo dell membrane keyboard ( Dell Sk-8115 ), a mad catz rat 3 and an akg k701 for audio.
  6. yeah i know what you mean about bottle necks and how some cards are equivalent give or take a few improvements. 960m is a overclocked more efficent version of the (maxwell) 860m 965m is almost on par with 970m at 1080p and bellow i am also not to worried about the potential of other bottle necks, i know how to spot them, and i'm not too worried about sacrificing some things. I've found that besides a few rare cases most brands avoided ant major bottlenecks, the main aspect of the laptop that ive been having trouble deciding on the gpu i want in it. but my main question is given a low budget, is sticking with lower cards now (ie, saving money and buying a 860m now), a better or worse investment than spending $200 -$600 more (for a 870m/ 965m equivalent or higher, and what about 970m (or greater). im not worried about the laptop as a whole but the price to performance of the gpus based on the cheapest i can find a laptop with them in it. im trying to use that to help determine where it is worth paying more for a gpu before it starts getting really expensive
  7. Hey i'm curious as to what mobile gpu i should try to get, as of bang for the buck but for mid to high range. I'm planning on gaming and maybe content creation of some sort, so any low end chips like 850m or 950m and below would definitely be out. At what prices should i get said laptop based on the gpu? I'm not looking for input about what laptop itself is necessarily better but the hardware inside. Example: I've currently found two used laptops. A lenovo y50 (gtx 860m) and a msi gt70 896 (gtx 870m) The y50 is $625 and the gt70 is $800 based on the prices would it be better to save the $175 and get a 860m or should i spend it to get an 870m I'm curious into what gpus are worth spending __x__ price for over another as well as other laptops with 960m (at $800), 965m at ( at $900) and 970m (at $1200)
  8. I recently found another ad for a msi gt70 dominator 895 (870m) also for $800m, would this be the best value? or a y50 with 960m ? from what ive seen the 960m is only a slightly overclocked 860m.
  9. Also as of my other question is it work paying $1000-$1300 for a gtx870m, gtx960m, gtx965m, gtx970m or is finding a 860m, for about $800 ish a good find. Ps. i'm hoping for it to last for at least a few years, and although i might be able to afford a 965m (which i believe id almost equivalent to the 870m), would it even be woth thr extra $200 (for a 960m-965m) or $300-$500 (for a 970m)
  10. Thanks for the quick replies, but i would also like to point out that it was a GL551 and not a G501 in the craigslist ad
  11. Hey, i'm planing on trying to buy a new laptop (hopefully) within the next month or so. I'm open to both used and new, but only have a budget of around $1000 ( and the cheaper the better). I was interested if anyone on the forum had any suggestions. I am going to be using the laptop mainly for gaming, although i might do dabble with digital art and other forms of content creation down the line. i care about weather it has -good specs (cpu/gpu/ram) -decent screen (mainly quality, before higher resolution panels) -build quality (is it going to last spec wise and physically) than -amazingly thin (still a plus but not needed) -amazing battery life (as long as the battery lasts longer than the dead one in my current laptop i could care less) -appearances I know it might be a lot to ask, but i would value others opinions as of some possible contenders I've seen Lenovo y50 (860m touch for $750 on craigslist) Acer Aspire v15 Nitro (860m $800 on craigslist) Asus g501 (860m $800 on craigslist) Are there any other laptops i should look into? I'm mainly confused on what gpu should i even try to get. At what price points would it even be worth getting a (760m-780m, 860m-880m, 960m-980m), at what price is it not worth choosing that gpu?
  12. My favorite keyboard size is full, it lets me have access to all keys 24/7 without multiple functuons on one key for productivity. But keyboards like the Ducky Mini and the Pok3r are still good options when considering their lower profile for more of a traveling standpoint, witch can quickly improve cheap laptop key switches for mechanical without being bigger than the whole laptop or making the laptop a couple inches thick.
