  1. Hello everyone Today I finally finished my recent project the “Smoker”. This was a project I fantasized about for years, but never had the time nor resources to realize. My friends and I had talked about a PC that is essentially a wind tunnel and I found this to be so intriguing that I had to build it. The design is pretty simple since it is nothing more than a tube with two large fans on either side. However, I wanted to keep my PC hardware and did not want to buy new parts just for this build. So it had to fit my mITX-motherboard, a Geforce 780, my ATX power supply and a H100i liquid cooler. After some tinkering I came up with this: Now that I had a plan I started on the basics. I slaughtered an old case I had spare for a motherboard back plate. Sadly, it did not have a CPU cutout and also lacked cable-management holes, so I had to cut them myself. These struts I cut out additionally would later hold the case together and hold the back plate. Then I had to ask for a few favors from a previous employer of mine, so I got hold of the remaining parts for my case: The Steel tube that had to be cut in half and some lids with holes for 200mm fans. In these lids I had to drill some holes and test-fitted my NZXT fans. I also predrilled the holes for hinges and rivets that would keep everything together. Of course a smoker would not be complete without a handle, so I bought that too. Now I had to paint those parts, which was a pain since I had no place to paint these other than outside and the weather just would not play nice. I had to use a primer made for zinc-metals since the steel had a fresh zinc-coat. So after primer and paint it looked like this: I did not pain the inside (except for the primer) since I was planning to add some dampening on the inside. I remembered that I would need a drive cage for my remaining hard drives, so I nicked one from another case and painted that together with the back plate and a grate for the exhaust fan (since there will not be a dust filter on the right side). Of course this tube would not sit straight without some feet, so I took some wooden fence and stained it. Then the assembly began. I fitted a dummy-board to test the clearance for IO. Seemed okay at first, but proved to be very tight. I also ordered some parts to hold my radiator from Case-King and screwed it in. Soon I started adding the power-button and front I/O, then I moved on to applying the dampening material on the inside after which I installed the fans and the metal grate on the right side. I used spare dampening material and Velcro to fix the PSU and drive cage, then I used some more Velcro to attach the SSDs. Then I tossed the dummy-board and started to move the rest of my hardware into the case. The dust filer looks very greyish in this photo, but it’s just bad lighting. I did spend some more time on cable-managing, but I just wanted to be done at this point since I had to troubleshoot the system. It was quite unstable for some time and I wanted to finally fix it. Some minor tweaks and assembly later, it was stable again. Seems like the crashes were due to the Y-cable I used for my GPU, so I replaced that with two separate cables. Seems stable now. Finally, I connected all my periphery and called it a day. If anyone is interested to know anything else, just ask away. =) I will try to respond as fast as possible. Thank you for reading. Tell me in the comments if you liked this build and enjoyed it as much as I did. Cheers
  2. nope, been there, done that. no temp issue. PC can run at full load as much as it wants. Crashes are entirely random. They happen in Windows, Parted magic and even within the BIOS. RAM, GPU, PSU and mobo are checked and working. I will probably RMA the CPU and that's that. I will update this topic as soon as I have found the reason.
  3. Voltages are fine. I tested the PSU. I am still monitoring everything. I will have an eye on cache-voltage though. Thank you.
  4. I know. Was hoping someone had a better idea than "RMA the CPU", but I may do that. I am currently still testing. I have replaced cables with some from cablemod now and I have used two cables for the GPU instead of the 6pin /8pin -combo cable. Seems stable so far. Well.. if it does not work now, I'll RMA the CPU
  5. yes, problem occurs on different sockets and on an uninterruptible PSU. Funny thing is, sometimes the PC runs for hours. I did a test today after some tinkering with the cables and it ran OOCT for an hour and Valley for 3 hours. No problem. Then suddently as I am watching a stream - crash.
  6. I had 2x8GB running before. I am now sitting on a single 4GB one that I took out of my other PC. Originally I used Corsair Vengeance 1866MHz ones that run at 1.5V. Not I am using XMS3 running at 1333MHz. Problem still occurs.
  7. Instant off. Just like it would if it was overheating or loosing power all of a sudden. No bluescreen, no logs no dump-files.
  8. No overclock at the moment. This was my first thought too.
  9. Hello guys, Throughout the last year I have RMA'd my PSU, motherboard and RAM trying to fix an issue I have with my PC. My investigation came to a hold since I was busy building a new case (buildlog coming) and since it is finished now I have rebuilt my PC inside said case. Now, about my issue. The PC keeps crashing without any error message or log. I have tried everything I know. I am running Windows 10 64bit, but this crash keeps happening even when I am in the BIOS, so it is not Windows' fault. My PC: i7-4770k Corsair H100i ROG impact VI Gtx 780 DirectCUII Corsair RM650 Corsair Vengeance 16GB - 1866 MHz Several SSDs and Harddrives Bios is the newest version, drivers up to date and everything except CPU is back from RMA or not faulty (I tested without GPU as well) Does anyone have a clue? Should I RMA the CPU just to be sure? (Still on warranty) Thank you all for your help.

  11. Hi, First of all, thank you for this give-away. This is amazing and I am glad that someone out there can gift their loved ones something that they possibly couldn't afford otherwise. When it comes to my entry here, I'd love to gift my dad some headphones. My dad was an audiophile back in the day. He spent so much money on his audio set-up in the living room and his record-players, but somehow this lost its relevance to him. The amp isn't working any more, the speakers are dusty and stored in the attic. He recently came to me, while I was listening to some music on my PC using my headset (I have a decent audio set-up, but I was lazy and used my headset, because I was waiting for a Skype call). He asked me, what I was listening to and I handed him the not so great, but decent Vengeance 2100 with Grieg's "In the hall of the mountain king". He absolutely loved it. Now, I realized that he was using cheap terrible in-ear headphones while listening to music, so I asked him why. To which he responded "every time I go to the hospital (this is a few times a week), there are a lot of people on the train. It would not make much of a difference if I had better ones. I can barely hear the music anyway." So, I'd love to surprise him with a pair of Bose QuietComfort 25. I just wanted to gift him this to show him how far noise-cancelling came in the last years. Also even when not cancelling, these headphones are quite nice and I am sure he would enjoy them greatly. Again, Thank you for this give-away. Looking forward, FH PS: the amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/Bose-QuietComfort-headphones-corresponding-QuietComfort25/dp/B014CI8UXE/ref=sr_1_21?s=aht&ie=UTF8&qid=1449238267&sr=1-21&refinements=p_36%3A-30000
  12. Why can't I watch your newest videos on Vessel? It tells me I need early access to watch them. Isn't the whole point of Vessel to access them earlier?
