  1. Honestly, I believe you should be looking at a case upgrade before anything else. The coolers inside of a case can't do much if they aren't getting enough circulation. Having a single 92mm exhaust fan is not good enough for an overclocked PC. Most of this depends on what sort of spec you're running though. I'll do what I can to give you some good recommendations if you provide me with a list of specs.
  2. Dude, don't even get me started on that SLI bridge lol. I hate that thing. I'm about to spend $20 on a replacement for something so stupid T_T. While I haven't used it personally, I have heard very good things about the DX and from what I can tell, you can't go wrong with Asus's Xonar series. I actually just recommended it to a couple friends who are in need of a sound card (and not quite as crazy as me :P)
  3. I'd recommend an XSPC Razor block. I'm using two of them on my 670's with the XSPC back plate. Not only is performance great, but they look awesome with the lit up acrylic. Just double check that the Gigabyte card you have uses the reference PCB.
  4. I'm sure there are thousands of people over on 420chan who would love to discuss this topic with you. I understand that this is in the off-topic section, but since you asked for our opinions on the topic, I'll give you mine. Very few discussions bore me more than those one the matter of recreational drugs (alcohol included). There you have it; do with it what you will. :)
  5. I don't doubt that. The Essence One was just $400-$600 over my budget.
  6. Computer science is one of the most math heavy majors you can pick. You'll have to go all the way through 400 level math courses (way past calculus). As a tech guy who enjoys working with computers, I've found myself enjoying my Information Technology/ Networking classes. It sounds like any type of IT major would suit you at least a little. In my particular program (at the University of Montana) I'm required to take Math 115 which is probability and linear algebra. I think it was pretty easy and I really dislike math.
  7. In the sense that they claim to be in the title... as false as that probably is. :P
  8. After having some time to play with them I can definitely recommend them. They're definitely of a no-frills but sleek design, and possibly a little too plastic-y. I do, however, outright require my headsets to be as light as possible so I find the plastic design to be a pro (just be gentle with them). The huge, velour pads are very comfortable and are more than big enough to not touch my ears at all. The the sound quality on the mic is outstanding and definitely beats the Megalodons (and the mic on those was great). As for the sound itself, I don't think you could ask any more of a gaming headset. I don't doubt that there are better ones out there, but the crisp highs and punchy bass is pretty much exactly what I was looking for. Everything about them sounds clean and the only distortion I can hear is at extreme volumes (to the point where it's just way too loud to listen to). "Razor Sharp" by Tristam and Pegboard Nerds sounds incredible at any volume :). There's so much more power in these than in the Megalodons that it's a little ridiculous. I will no longer be able to think "man I wish I could turn this up" The STX is also one hell of a card. The power and clarity coming from it puts it way ahead of the Fatal1ty Platinum Champion which was $150 new... I feel like money was wasted on that card, not this STX at $185 even for the PC360's. Not only has the PC360's sounded great with the STX, but the Promedia 2.1's are on a whole other level now. Particularly on the low-end. There's more depth coming out of the sub then I ever expected from it. I can no longer turn up my speakers loud enough to hear any distortion (it'd be VERY rude to the apartments adjacent to mine :P). All in all I'm quite happy with my purchase. The Xonar Essence STX will last me a very long time, and the PC360's will suit me well for music, games, and movies for quite a while. And hey, here's a picture just for fun!
  9. I dumped a can of Mountain Dew on my keyboard... my motherboard has never been the same since :'( I did manage to fix the keyboard (Blackwidow Ultimate) by soaking it in distilled water and letting it dry for a couple days though :)
  10. Pretty much this. I've had this discussion with a friend of mine who was deciding between an i7-2600k and an i7-3770k (he was upgrading from a Phenom II x4 965BE). He ended up going with the 3770k and it's working great. That said, my 2600k was a better overclocker (even without the 3770's thermal paste issue), so I get higher Cinebench scores. Does that matter to me? No, not really. Pick whichever chip you can get a better deal on. :) (Edit: I should have read more of the thread... I'm sure the 2500k is going to kill it with your 7950 :) )
  11. I'll be getting them later today and I'll be sure to let you know exactly what I think of them in this thread :)
  12. I do realize the STX may be a tad overkill for the PC360's but I'm also wanting it to better power my Klipsch Promedia 2.1's. Not only that, but I want it to run whatever speakers I may upgrade to and any headset I might get in the future. I prefer to buy things that give me room to grow :). Unfortunately I can't take your recommendations on the AKG's or the DT990's as my PC 360's should be delivered in the next couple hours. If, by some chance, I'm dissatisfied with the PC360's I'll be sure to give the DT990's a chance. Thanks for the info! I'll make sure to directly compare the X-Fi Fatal1ty Platinum with the new STX to make sure that it's a worthy upgrade too.
  13. Haha I'm no Metro-tard :P. I honestly don't see the fun in all these 64p Metro servers. I find them to be unbalanced and boring. I'm more of an all-rounder. I play Rush (32p), Conquest on vehicle heavy maps(32 or 64), CQ Domination (24-32p), TDM (32p), Scavenger (32p), and CTF (32p). It's kind of funny how I was so excited for 64 player servers when BF3 was announced, but now I only play the odd 64p conquest match and that's it. The game seems balanced for 32 players. I understand why you don't take the game seriously though. It's a video game, it should be played for fun. One point I will mention though is that a player needs to make his own fun. You have fun goofing off with a knife and C4, I have fun trying to do the best I can to help my team win. It's not as simple as "Oh hey, this guy is a try-hard, he needs to calm down and have some fun." I honestly have a blast while trying to play as effectively as I can. But again, do what you enjoy :)
  14. I have a 948spm overall(1250spm after 60 hours of a stat reset)... apparently I'm a hacker. This is new to me lol.
  15. Definitely the Alphacool Nexxxos rads (whatever size you can fit), Swiftech MCP-655 pump (variable so you can turn it down, my non-variable is barely loud enough to make me want to adjust it), Primochill Advanced LRT tubing (I prefer 3/8" ID 1/2" OD), Bitspower Z-tank multi reservoir, Bitspower compression fittings (you'll probably spend a lot of money on these if you want a really tidy loop), I'd probably stick to the Raystorm and Razer blocks from XSPC even for your build since I like the looks of them so much (and they work great), SP120 Quiet edition fans (I'd recommend Noctua NF-F12's if you don't care what they look like), and as for coolant, that's personal preference though I'd probably stick to using Mayhems dye with distilled water (make sure you have a biocide in it. A lot of Mayhems stuff comes pre-mixed with one). As I found out earlier, UV stuff WILL stain your loop so I'd shy away from that. I'm using most of what I recommended here, so if you think a picture would help, I'll put one up of my rig.
  16. I should also mention that I try to keep my ambient temps at about 20-22c
  17. Right around 55C on the CPU and 45 on the GPUs. XSPC Razors on the GPUs and the Raystorm on the CPU.
  18. You don't have to use the Monsta variant. The UT60 and XT45's have the same low fin density. I'm cooling a 4.8Ghz 2600k and two 670's with an ST30 (360mm) and an XT45 (240mm) while using the SP120 Quiet Edition fans. The temps are great :)
  19. I didn't know that about UV coolant... That makes me even more glad that I went with Mayhem's pastel blue berry coolant :)
  20. For all I know, that may be the case. I didn't look too far into the A40's since they aren't really for me.
  21. I think the A40's are an excellent choice for any console gamer and anyone who is using on-board sound on a PC, much like my Razer Megalodons (on the PC at least). I think the difference between the Megalodons and the A40's wasn't going to be big enough to warrant the upgrade. And yes, I do believe an increase in sound quality can justify an extra $100 (but hey, I'm the guy who just spent $380 on a soundcard/ headset. I might not be right in the head.). That said, I do agree that I shouldn't be looking for a headset if my main concern is sound quality, however, I was specifically looking for the absolute best headset I could buy. I'll find out if I'm right on Wednesday. :D The 363D's are the same thing as the PC 360's but with the addition of that USB cable (that I wouldn't use) and the option for virtual 5.1/ 7.1 (which I probably wouldn't use). I decided to stick with the PC 360's and save $110 since the features they added to the PC 363D aren't useful to me. Though it's much less important, I also think the PC 360's look nicer. I prefer the metal mesh over the vented grey plastic. :)
  22. I'm currently using PrimoChill Advanced LRT and it's great. No printed labels on it, it's perfectly clear, and it doesn't cause discoloration with Mayhem's coolant :)
  23. I'd get an Asus Xonar Essence One, but I'm afraid that one IS out of my price range :P You guys have been a great help though. At the very least, I'm feeling very confident about buying the STX thanks to you guys. I think I'll be sticking to the PC 360's as well and I'll be sure to post a follow up of my first impressions some time next week. Thanks again everybody!
