  1. Was it Home Basic? That had region locks. 10 does not.
  2. Wrong. He buys a product key. A product key is only edition specific. That means he either gets Home or Pro. No other restrictions. He can install the 32-bit or 64-bit version. He can install English or Japanese or Russian or Kilngon, whatever he wants. As long as only one is installed at a time.
  3. If you buy it from Japan, you can still install the English version. Windows has no geographical DRM.

    Should I get a 280X for ~160€? The only problem…

The Athlon will be fine. Go for it.
  8. No. The Windows 10 licence remains OEM, and is tied to the motherboard.
  9. I think he probably meant that the battery ran out of charge, and plugging it in would recharge it.
  10. I was asking for an SHA1 hash, not a virus scan.
  11. That site doesn't really look legit. What is the SHA1 hash of the ISO? You can use HashCalc to find out. And if Rufus doesn't work, feel free to try manually creating the USB with my instructions.

    I just had a genius thought: With UEFI's being…

Would be quite hard to implement. The UEFI would have to have some kind of virtual drive to mount the ISO. On the other hand, firmware-level virtual drives would be pretty cool.
  13. Yes. But make sure that it formats the drive in FAT32, not NTFS.

Just curious, who actually reads these?

    I do, sometimes.
  16. It's quite simple.1. Use 7-zip to copy the contents of the ISO to a USB drive that is 5GB or larger. 2. Copy a file named bootsect.exe from the boot folder into C:\Windows\system32. 3. Type cmd into the Start Menu, then press Ctrl+Shift+Enter 4. Accept the UAC prompt 5. Run the command 'bootsect /nt60 E:", replacing E: with the drive letter of your USB. And there you have it. Now you have a USB that can install both Windows 10 Home and Pro into BIOS and UEFI machines.
  17. WIM ISOs are direct downloads of ISOs, ESD ones are created by the Media Creation Tool. Easiest way to get WIM ISOs is https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/techbench Home and Pro in a single ISO. The ISO is for both UEFI and BIOS, but the USB creation requires an extra step.
