  1. Thanks, Guess I'll keep the CX600m around to just in case but get a new PSU to throw in.
  2. This might be a super niche thing but you really need to use the cameras. Rent them or go to an event where the companies are showcasing. For me I swapped to Canon for one simple reason that everyone else thinks is bonkers. If you hold the shutter down you'll very quickly have a lot of photos that look almost the same but there's usually one that you like the best. With Nikon I have to step through one at a time. With Canon I can spin the wheel back and forth like a scrubber on a timeline and pick the best, fast and simple. It's a stupidly small thing but I really like it and won't give it up. It's honestly these small little things that will make or break a system for you. Both will create amazing photos. You really need to get your hands on them for some time and shoot em.
  3. I have a gaming rig that's really on it's last legs. USB 3.0 controller died, sound card died, and now the network card looks like it's also bit the dust. I've already put in a usb 3.0 and sound expansion card but I think it's time to call it quites on this old machine and try to salave it as a NAS machine. I'm definately going to throw away the Mobo but I'm wondering if I should salavage the CPU (AMD 6300fx), 32gb DDR3 1600Mhz (non-ecc), and the PSU. I'm wondering if it was the PSU (Corsair CX600m) that was causing so many components on the Mobo to die. Nothing else died, fans are okay, hard drives are fine, and GPU is running. Bad power or just triple unlucky on the Mobo?
  4. Do you guys think that this would make a good platform for a NAS? For the price it seems decent. https://www.kijiji.ca/v-servers/edmonton/hp-dl180-for-nas:-8-x-3-5-bays-2x-xeons-cpus-24-gb-ram/1346127290 I plan to throw Freenas on it probably only 8TB to start with but I'd like the room to grow it. Thanks.
  5. Planning out my first NAS. This will be primarily used to archive photos. I'm thinking about a 3 4tb raid 5 array to get me started. I'm looking on Amazon and seeing multiple options. WD Red 4TB, Seagate Ironwolf 4TB. I'm wondering if it's a good idea to spring for the "Data Recovery Options". Amazon has a 3 year plan on the side by "FA Service Plans" for about $19 a drive. Seagate has their own Ironwolf Pro for about $50 a drive. Are either of these worth it for the piece of mind? A backup to in case of catastrophic dual failure/failure during recovery? I'd more than likely be replacing this NAS within the 2-3 years. Thanks for the advise.
  6. Has anyone had experience getting a S8 active in Canada? How would I confirm that the phone would work on my carrier.
  7. Is there a macropad that I can program (preferabbly on my phone as that's what I'll have access too) without needing any software on my work machine? My work machine is completely locked down and I can't install any programs, even the companion software for Logitech's macro keys. Basically my work machine will only see key strokes entered. Thoughts?
  8. Hello, I'm just getting into the modding scene and I'm in the process of creating a white / arctic themed case. I don't really like the plain black metal back-plate on my FE 1080 or the white Cooler master logo on my CPU AIO. I'm planning on making a white acrylic cover piece and stencilling a gamer tag and some other designs on it. My one concern is about thermals of the card. The normal black back-plate gets quite hot in operation. I'd like some advice on how to mount the decorative plate onto the existing back plate. I was thinking using 3m foil tape and some metal washer spacers which then are glued to the back of the decorative back-plate. So it would be Stock Black Back Plate - 3M Foil tape - Metal Spacing Washers - super glue - acrylic. Suggestions from those that have done this or something before? Additionally, does anyone know if it's worth trying to sleeve my PSU cables on my semi-moduler Cooler Master PSU or try to get as much as I can for it and buy a fully modular Corsair PSU and some cable mod cables? (It's a small case so I don't really have the room to hide extension cables).
  9. Best bang for buck would probably be a Sony RX10 II which does great 240 in buffered mode or 120 continuous. In addition the RX10 is small enough to be flown on a smaller pistol grip 3-axis gimbal like a Came-TV Single or a Pilot Fly H1 which makes a killer combo. If you want to go further in the 'cinematic' look you could add on a SLR Magic Anamorphot to get a more traditional cine-scope.
  10. Have you considered the Sony A6000 as a starting kit instead of Canon. The reason I mention this is that the Sony will have more user friendly video-centric software compared to the Canon. For beginners it won't necessarily matter, the canon will probably be easier to learn because of the simple functionality it offers, but if you want to go further the Sony will have more options such as a log profile, zerbas/peaking and higher bit rate recording. Just a thought to make it more complex.
  11. I don't want to spend so much on film and development. My local labs can do C41 35mm but anything else will have to be shipped and processed somewhere else.
  12. Looking to purchase a film SLR. I'm leaning towards a Nikon F3HP and a waist level view finder but I'd like other suggestions. Wants: -100% viewfinder + option to use waist level finder -Lots of quality manual focus lenses -35mm -Auto Flash Control Not necessary: -Auto focus -Motor drive
  13. Should have just bought something else for $50 to get that free shipping over $50 deal.
  14. If anyone cares, the seller declined to honour the price and Amazon apologized for the inconvenience and awarded me a $5 promo gift card for my "troubles". My card was never charged and the issue was resolved in 36 hours.
