  1. Budget (including currency): $800 USD should probably be a baseline. Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Diablo 1/2/3, Warcraft 2/3. Stardew (Modded, with SVE if I can get it working), Bloodstained, grim dawn, various Sony games releases on Steam. https://steamcommunity.com/id/DlfC/games/ If you want to see what I've played and or my wishlist. Also GOG. If possible, I'd like to try to pass a GPU through to a Virtual Machine to use Windows for some easier games (that wouldn't run through linux or are just cumbersome). Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): - Existing Parts -- I have a CORSAIR RM750X FM 80+G ATX 2021 for power supply -- A 2070 Super (although assuming 8 GB of VRAM ain't enough, I might get something newer) - Already use: Currently a steam deck - When I'm going to buy/build - Next few months, I'd hope (shouldn't rely on the deck forever). Would like to move the deck between two monitors and have a HDMI (and/or) a display port splitter between my switch my deck and computer to use one monitor for any of the three systems. - Resolution - Right now 1440p, eventually buy a new 4k monitor, would like to try 120 - 144 (or 160) hz refresh rate). - Other uses - I'd like eventually rip my blu-rays onto a home theater PC (disc rot would likely eventually make the discs unreable). - At least 16 (or 32) GB ddr4 (or 5) should probably be a baseline. Also, random Q: What can I do about GPU sag? What could I put under(neath) the GPU to keep it from sagging and having so much weight on the PCIe slot?
  2. Budget (including currency): $800 (+?) USD Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Diablo 2 Resurrected, Stardew valley, castlevania, grim dawn, Spiderman, god of war, halo (MMC), Horizon. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Why upgrade? - The short of the mater is that yesterday after voting, i loaded some youtube videos and walked a little ways from the computer before the GPU fans kicked up to max with both screens (1440p & 4k resolutions). Turned off the system, got the system to boot once to desktop. Within about a min, the fans kicked up again with the screens turning off then trying to get back into the desktop I got the message: please power down and connect the pcie power cables for this graphics card. - Even if I hadn't had the above happen, most of the components are ~10 years old at this point, also some of the recent games (like DOOM) aren't quite getting the FPS I'd like. Current parts list: CPU: Intel Core i7-3770K 3.5 GHz Quad-Core Processor Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H-WB ATX LGA1155 Motherboard Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR3-1600 CL9 Memory Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR3-1600 CL9 Memory Storage: SanDisk Extreme 120 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive Storage: Seagate BarraCuda 2 TB 3.5" 7200 RPM Internal Hard Drive Storage: Seagate BarraCuda 3 TB 3.5" 7200 RPM Internal Hard Drive Video Card: EVGA XC ULTRA GAMING GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER 8 GB Video Card Case: Cooler Master HAF X ATX Full Tower Case Power Supply: SeaSonic G 550 W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply Was thinking of something like: PCPartPicker Part List CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700G 3.8 GHz 8-Core Processor Motherboard: Asus TUF GAMING X570-PLUS (WI-FI) ATX AM4 Motherboard Memory: G.Skill Aegis 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3000 CL16 Memory Storage: SanDisk Extreme 120 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive Storage: Samsung 860 Evo 500 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive Storage: ADATA XPG GAMMIX S5 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive Storage: Western Digital Blue 4 TB 3.5" 5400 RPM Internal Hard Drive Video Card: EVGA BLACK GAMING GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER 8 GB Video Card Case: Cooler Master HAF X ATX Full Tower Case Monitor: Asus PB278Q 27.0" 2560 x 1440 60 Hz Monitor Monitor: BenQ EL2870U 28.0" 3840 x 2160 60 Hz Monitor[/url Possible suggestions for components: - CPU Would like to passthrough a GPU through to a virtual machine to run GOG games and or Steam games. If i need to use Intel again, so be it but I would like to try Ryzen. -GPU Have a 2070 super currently - Case Hopefully USB C / 3 (/4?) ports on the front Hopefully quit like the HAF X (since someone sleeps in the room "above") I'd like screwless (like HAF X) if possible, Less chance of screws getting warped Hopefully pretty cleanable (filters?) - Storage I have a fair amount of SSDs (2/3) internal drives connected via adapters) along with two HDDs Would like to try NVME as the boot drive, and possibly at least some of the game storage. - RAM Most likely DDR4 Probably start out with 16 (or 32)GB and move along to 48 or 64 GB. -Motherboard Hopefully as (/supports) bluetooth (I use bluetooth speakers) Maybe try to get a (second) ps5 controller to use on the new system (I have one for the steam deck) - PSU Hopefully pretty energy effiicent. I'd probably like semi (or fully) modular since that decreases amount of cables in the case when would I build it? - I'd like to try to build it by at least end of Jan, 2023. Typed all this on a steamdeck.
  3. I should also probably ask would my 550 watt power supply be enough for the 2070 or get a 650?
  4. 1. Budget & Location - For a GPU alone $550 seem reasonable? US (Texas if it really helps with parts choosen) 2. Aim Play games (Steam/GOG) - DOOM (2016)/eternal /newer wolfensteins - Skyrim/Oblivion/Morrowind (all heavily modded) /other - Baldur's Gate 3/2 / 1 - The Witcher 3/Cyberpunk 2077 - Batman: Arkham (Asylum/City/Origins/Knight) - System Shock 1 (Remake)/SystemShock 3 - Grim Dawn / Titan quest - Divinity Original sins (series) - Others (Tomb Raider, Dishonored . . . . . . . . .) - Emulation/older games (last decade/decades before) Browse the web as well. I may try to fold proteins a little (folding@home) 3. Monitors BenQ EL2870U 28 inch 4K HDR ASUS PB278Q 27 inch May want try 144 hz although I may continue to wait for prices to come down more. 4. Peripherals No need for a mouse, or OS (using Linux, not windows). I may want a new keyboard since this current one (Microsoft Keywinder) is losing some of the look of the keys 5. Why are you upgrading? A (few) weeks ago my 7970 apparently died (too much dust in the fans, overheated) currently using the HD 4000 from my 3770k. Had the 7970 not died, or went later (like September or November) this year I'd probably have waited to change the CPU/motherboard/RAM/GPU (/powersupply) to play some of the newer games I couldn't get to with the 7970 . . . . .) And yes I know I will apperently be bottlenecked by the CPU (3770k) by the GPU, as long as the games are still reasonably playable and don't hitch, freeze, stutter. 5. I think I may be in the market for a wireless (bluetooth or other) that uses inductive charging, what brands and or mice would be good? Second any good multimedia keyboards that are also wireless? Don't care if the keyboard supports macros or not, but I would 100% want multimedia keys . . . . .
  6. Thanks to mother nature around very early June I no longer have actual PC speakers, at the moment I'm using basically these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LZV6TYQ/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B010OYASRG/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Which works for the most part but I think I'd like some bookshelf (or similar size to these) speakers for Christmas. Do all PC speakers come with a headphone port on one of the speakers? If not I'd would likely like that. I do have a 27" Asus PB278Q on this small desk, and at some point may get a second monitor . . . . Would $100 suffice?
  7. If it was actually made also a ~68.58cm (27 inch for non-metric) size. The theoretical TV could be interesting but I don't think I'd be buying a 40-70" display.
  8. I'd think $100 (USA) or less should suffice, I think the old speakers were ~$40.
  9. Earlier this month (June 2nd to be precise), we had rain, thunder, lightning and we think the house got struck - one of the things that borked were the speakers for this computer (see specs below). CPU: Intel - Core i7-3770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor Motherboard: Gigabyte - GA-Z77X-UD5H-WB ATX LGA1155 Motherboard So I need some new ones. The previous were some logitech 2ch that could also have an ipod connected (headphone cable) and could control the volume output by the speakers. I don't have alot of room, so they'd likely have to be 2ch again . . . .
  10. Curious if external blu-ray readers (I do not need a burner or writer, if possible) exists - as I would like to play the blu-ray's I've collected in VLC on a laptop (which doesn't have any optical drive) a little more slowed down than normal to watch in a different language (French, German, Italian, etc). C'est possible? Merci, Danke, Grazie, thank you . . . .
  11. So we literately (like a day ago) asked our ISP (AT&T) to (temporarily? I'm not sure) upgrade us to 45 Mbits/second (~6MBytes/second), the computer that connects to the router via ethernet gets pretty much the speeds it should, hell my nexus 5x can at lest get up to ~40+ Mbits but this computer I'm on (built) gets ~20 Mbits - although that is through wi-fi and about 50+feet from the router . . . . Either via fast.com, or speedtest.net. Would we need a booster?
  12. Bought a Lemur 14" laptop from system 76 in July, and what like to change the current SSD in it to something that has more space (750+GB?) What do yall suggest? . ..
  13. Oddly it did see it earlier today (I was trying to "recover" it). As for cables I am absolutely sure both power & data are still there. As for the BIOS oddly two of my drives (I think it's both the 3TB) aren't seen in the BIOS but both were useable and my other 3TB (for Windows games) is still usable. Oh and both were partitioned to GPT, not MBR though I don't think should that make a difference weather the graphical BIOS (UEFI?) should 'see' the drives or not)
  14. 'T seems one of my hard drives one Seagate Barracuda 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive can no longer been found (let alone mounted) by either Windows or Linux. Gparted, no longer shows it, disks (gnome-disk-utility?) no longer sees it . . . I should have (all together): 1 120GB SSD (OS) 1 250GB SSD (few windows/linux games) 1 2TB HDD (linux games) 2 3TB HDD (one for Windows games, the other for general storage - media, virtual machines, etc) Or do I just need to buy another 3TB (or larger) drive? . . .
