  1. It definitely seems like I'll be using a laptop eGPU in conjunction with my current monitor. Should I just use my existing 3080?
  2. Thats true, I hadn't even considered the impact of being mobile on the components themselves
  3. This is definitely weird, I've never seen anything like this before. Have you tried forcing a ram intensive task to see what it does?
  4. Hey guys I might be moving into a van or camper semi full time. I was wondering if anyone here had experience with actual desktop setups in campers/vans. Is a Desktop PC even feasible for something like this? Or should I just be looking at a laptop for the efficiency it brings. I already have a desktop with a 3080, so if I could keep it that'd be great! Maybe something like a battery backup would be in order to smooth out the spikes. (Also I would be plugged into an external outlet while gaming) Any insight is appreciated ^^
  5. Oh also, an unlocked multiplier would definitely help you with OC, but it'd just help with fine tuning really.
  6. It could also be a higher binned chip. Older Extreme core 2 duo/quad chips were hardly worth their price increase.
  7. Yeah I'm lucky, I only have whine between 20-40% load, as soon as I get to 50+ the whine goes away.
  8. The noise is related to resonance so actually pumping the power/clock rate might get rid of the coil whine(or at least make it less noticeable). Personally if it is really bad I'd actually recommend looking into a case with some sound deadening, because the only other option would be to isolate the component causing the issue and replacing it (or replacing the entire GPU) neither of which are super feasible right now.
  9. I know that certain components on GPU's are sealed with Epoxy/Wax and over time this can degrade or just dry up maybe? You can't change the resonant frequencies without altering the electrical properties of the coil. So technically all they can do is muffle the sound. With heat and the age of the card it could just be that some of this muffling material has been damaged. Personally unless you can see arcs, or if the noise gets really loud I wouldn't worry about it.
  10. I had the same issue on my 2080 TI. I've been seeing this error a lot more recently so I'm starting to think this could possibly be something driver related. In my case the issue still persisted with one stick of ram, no overclock, and a fresh install. It even gave me this BSOD while I was installing windows. Leading me to believe this is a hardware issue. I replaced my GPU and the issue persisted so I will most likely end up RMA'ing it anyway.
  11. Personally I would not worry about this. Windows does a pretty good job of RAM management, and with 16 GB of ram you shouldn't notice any slow-downs in most applications. There are certain services you can disable to free up some RAM, but the difference is hardly noticeable.
  12. Your motherboard *might* be able to control the RGB if you plug the RGB directly into an RGB header. But otherwise I try to stay away from RGB, or things that require hefty software in order to run properly. As for why COD is crashing it's hard to say if it doesn't give you any codes. You could try uninstalling/cleaning your drivers with DDU and then reinstalling them to see if the issue persists.
  13. Do you notice really low clocks or high temps on the CPU when you were playing CSGO? If you were using a 980 then your PSU wouldn't be the problem.
  14. Personally I've never even seen anything like this happening, it definitely makes me miss our old CRT monitors. Do you know if there is a way to install firmware from a USB or something?
  15. So in this case my money is actually on the BIOS. Most BIOS's have some sort of failsafe where if there is a certain number of failed boots it will eventually revert to a default setting. Have you already tried clearing CMOS or resetting your BIOS settings?
  16. Hey Jake! Would you mind posting your system specs? The fact that it's dropping itself to 300mhz clock speed does raise some questions. The issue could also be with the CPU or RAM if there is a severe bottleneck with the CPU you would expect to see low GPU utilization. The crashing however is definitely not par for the course.
  17. I've had issues with iCUE in the past, also if you upgraded to W11 at the same time you upgraded your case/fans/cooler then we wouldn't have any way of ruling that out. Personally I would uninstall iCUE first to see if the issues persist.
  18. If you are hitting 90c idle the issue is definitely with contact, my guess is on not enough mounting pressure.
  19. Is there any sort of fan controller or does the cooler automatically install any software? I've had issues with this and razer where I would plugin a device, windows would automatically install a driver and it would effectively brick my system. It could also be possible that the ram would just need a re-seat, but I would personally start with uninstalling any drivers/programs that were installed if there was any, then I would move to just trying it on one stick of ram. Personally in all my years of computing I've never seen a fan cause BSOD's or any issues by itself. That doesn't mean it isn't possible, but personally I've never seen it.
  20. For your build 750w should be plenty. My guess is that there may have be some sort of software conflict, you stated that you ruled out it being a software issue, but I wasn't sure how you tested that exactly. A cooler wouldn't generally cause this type of issue. Have you already tried using the PC with only one stick of ram?
  21. You definitely do not want to buy it, code 43 means Windows has lost communication with the drive or the driver has crashed. Every GPU I've ever had with this code has either been broken, or just needed the bios flashed. If it was just a vbios they probably would've done it themselves.
  22. The pagefile will exist regardless of whether or not it's in use, if you have 16GB then I wouldn't worry unless you are experiencing slowdowns. I'm not entirely sure but it could also just be that Windows may be benching certain things once it gets to a RAM usage amount, but it's actually pretty common for most apps to sit around the same ram usage %. Are you noticing any slowdowns or stuttering where your frames drop drastically in games, or things seem to freeze for a moment in other applications?
  23. Planning to build a friend a PC for under $100 Attempting to build a PC for a friend under $200 Nothing too crazy, just league I have been looking into a couple prebuilts, but I've pretty much settled on a couple specific models, namely the <strong>HP z420</strong>, and the <strong> Dell Precision t3700 </strong>. Both of these can be had for around $150~, bit I was wondering if anyone else had some input on what we should use, I was looking into a couple older models like the <strong> HP Z400 </strong> because we could technically get that and then spend the rest of the budget on something like an RX 480. He will be upgrading sometime in June, but right now he can't even get over 15 FPS low at 768p with his old all in one.
