  1. Yup, I already have both the cards. The benchmarks are quite similar for modern games, the 390X beats 1060 slightly in some but the 1060 uses less power.
  2. I have the choice of two GPUs to use on my new system. The 390X was on my old system and is about a year old, well maintained. The 1060 is brand new. CONFIG: intel i7 8700Asus Z370 moboSSD + HDDs600w PSU AMD R9 390X 8 GB or GTX 1060 6 GBCorsair Hyper 212 Primary monitor : 21:9 Ultrawide : 2560x1080 FREESYNC Monitor 75 Hz?Secondary monitor : Some Samsung 1680x1050USAGE: Photoshop/ Illustrator/ Gaming / StreamingI am a variety streamer, I stream demanding games as well as light games. I am thinking of using the x264 encoding while stream, not sure if I can without stressing my system. Which GPU would be best suited for me?
  3. I believe Skylake supports both DDR3 and DDR4 ? I will wait for the locked CPUs to show up meanwhile.
  4. Hi jimakos, the deepcool captain is a little expensive but I am willing to scrifice a bit for aesthetics. Besides, it is not too expensive. Flipkart is actually selling cheaper than 80 USD ( link ) As for the CPU, some people suggested I wait for Skylake as I won't be getting too big of a performance increase over my current CPU. Note, I don't overclock and never will. Should I wait for Skylake or upgrade now? My concern is all new lineups are super expensive at launch.... Will an R9 380 hold up in 1440p? I might go for the 390 instead if it doesn't. Also, I don't know much about monitors so I still need help with that.
  5. So I'm planning to update my system in about two months from now (started saving for it already). I would appreciate some tips and advice Usage : Gaming (preferably at max/ultra settings), Music, Movies, Photoshop and Illustrator, basic video editing Overclocking : no, don't plan to Theme : Red / Black Country : INDIA Current : CPU : Intel Core i5-3550 - stock cooler Motherboard : ASUS P8Z77-M PRO RAM : Corsair Vengeance 8 GB DDR3 @1866 mhz GPU : Asus R9 280X , 3gb Case : NZXT H440 Storage : Sandisk Ultra 256 GB SSD + WD Caviar Black 1TB + Segate 1TB HDD PSU : Corsair CS 650M Display(s) : Samsung S22B370, 1080p Cooling : 6X 120 mm (Three intake front, two exhaust on top, one exhaust at back) OS : Windows 8.1 (soon to be 10) Parts to be upgraded CPU : Intel Core i5-4590 CPU Cooler : Deepcool Captain 120 Motherboard : MSI H97 GPU : Asus R9 280X , 3gb (need suggestions) Display(s) : Something with 2160x1080 or a 1440p Since I don't plan to overclock, the Deepcool cooler is mainly for aesthetics. It's cheap, performs allright and looks damn cool. Mobo, I don't see a better alternative that fits a red/black theme without being too expensive. So here is the main issue. I can't seem to find a good 1440p display that does not break my budget, which is about Rs. 30,000/- (roughly USD 450). Since I also design, I can use the extra width offered by a 2160x1080 display. Again, I don't know much about displays so I would like to have some recommendations, with the same budget. Depending on the display recommendations, I might have to upgrade my GPU if I want to play games like Witcher 3 maxed out (don't care about hairworks setting). If my 280X can handle it, let me know. p.s. its an old image, the speakers are different.
  6. I'll go for the Sandisk perhaps. Seems to be getting a lot of love (apart from the Crucial and Samsung of course)
  7. I'll be going for a 256 Gig SSD and I have my eyes on the Crucial MX ones. However, it doesn't really fit well with my red/black theme and I would like to know if there are alternatives. I can't afford to go overboard with top of the line performing SSDs like the Samsung 840 Pros, those would simply break my wallet. Any suggestions?
  8. Thats what I was thinking. I think if the ambient noise (or silence, depends on how you look at it) is more than the rig, I think its fine.
  9. I don't plan to overclock, my CPU is most likely going to be i5-4460 or something in that range. I don't plan to SLI/CF either, I've always preferred single GPUs. Having that in mind, I would like some motherboard recommendations under 200. I am on a tight budget so the cheaper the better. Also, I don't care about number of USB ports, etc. Most importantly however, it needs to have some amount of red to match my build! I was thinking of something like an Asus H-97 or something which would match my needs but I'm no expert when it comes to features.
  10. Guys, you're missing the point. I wanna know is worth having the extra cost/dampening worth it if you wont notice it during gaming.
  11. This is not really a build planning but I had some thoughts on silent builds out there. To cut things short, does it really matter if I go the extra mile to pick parts optimized for silence? I'm talking about choosing parts which are little more expensive but have lower noise. For instance, picking up a noctua CPU cooler instead of a Hyper 212, picking up Noctua fans over say, Corsair AF, picking up 0 rpm PSU/GPUs (no load), padded chassis, etc. From what I think, if you are gaming and your rig is under load, you probably wont notice the "noise" over the game volume anyway. The only time I would need quiet is when I'm browsing, editing, etc. and the non-silence optimized parts do a decent job of cooling, the sound levels at idle are too low to notice. I dunno, just trying to figure out why is so much important for many. Maybe I'm overlooking something?
  12. I look forward to see Ubisoft on top of the charts.....for the worst company in 2014.
  13. I was thinking of making it a bit future proof, in case I bought a more beastly card in the next couple of years. I never run CF or SLi and will most likely never will. Budget....I'm not looking to go more than Rs. 7000 ($110 ish), I live in India.
  14. Hi guys, I've got my psu choices narrowed down to the Corsair CS 650M and the Cooler Master G650M. Both are modular and evenly priced here. Which one would you recommend? Is there any better alternative in the same price range? Specs in my profile if needed. Ignore the current PSU.
  15. Yeah, 78 degrees was a one time read when I was playing an MMO alpha, with highly unoptimized graphics and effects. The Dark Rock series is not available in India where I live, so I'll have to go for a Hyper 212 or something. Noctuas are quite expensive here.
  16. Hey guys, I'm in the process of building my new rig and I'm kinda confused if I would need an H100i (or something similar) or an air cooler like Hyper 212X would suffice. I've never tried liquid cooling before, never had the need for it but recent games have been a bit taxing on my CPU. Although the max temp I recorded so far was 78 degrees, I was using the stock intel cooler. My usage includes gaming mostly and browsing and designing. I don't edit videos or use CPU heavy applications. My rig specs that I'm building are below. Plz note, I'm using some of old parts like my mobo and CPU : CPU : Intel Core i5-3550 Motherboard : ASUS P8Z77-M PRO RAM : Corsair Vengeance 8 GB GPU : ASUS R9 280X Case : NZXT H440 Storage : Segate 1TB HDD PSU : Corsair CS650M Display : Samsung S22B370, 1080p My first choice was a Hyper 212X due to its low cost and fairly decent reviews. p.s. I don't overclock
  17. Geforce 2 MX 200 GeForce FX 5200 Ultra GeForce 6800 GT GeForce 8800 GT GeForce GTX 275 GeForce GTX 570 AMD R9 280X Why the switch to AMD now? I dunno, I wanted the GTX 770, the logical step (if you noticed, I skip a generation) but the prices were quite high compared to the 280X which provided almost the same performance. Sure, I would miss Shadowplay and Physx but that I don't mind. I think....
  18. Thanks for the quick response guys. What are the differences between CX, CS, RM Corsair series?
  19. Sup guys, need some help choosing a PSU. Below are my specs : - i5 3550 - Asus R9 280X - NZXT H440 - Samsung Evo 250 gigs SSD - Seagate 1TB HDD - 8 gigs Corsair Vengance ram - Corsair Hyper 212X cooler - 2 X Corsair AF 120 case fans - 4 x 120 front included case fans - I have at least 4 USB ports in use at all times (controller, Corsair K70 x 2, Printer, Mic, etc. Not sure if this info was important) I don't plan on Crossfire. Might upgrade the GPU to a better one in about a year from now. I would like a semi-modular or a modular PSU preferably from Cooler Master or Corsair or Antec, since these are the brands that have decent support in India. I am thinking of a 750W one (kinda on a budget) but if you guys think its not enough, let me know. I looked at a few PSUs from Corsair but the prefixes confuse me.
  20. Sadly they are not available in India. I guess I'll go with the 212X
  21. Hey all! I plan to build my next rig in a H440. I have a micro ATX Asus mobo and Corsair Vengeance RAMs. I was wondering if the high profile RAMs would be a problem if I were to add a Cooler Master Hyper 212X. I've already ticked the Noctua ND15 (or whatever the number is) out of my list for the same reason. I'm not concerned too much about the noise levels and I've read the 212X is a pretty good performer with decent sound levels. I plan to get the red/black H440 and I was thinking if there is an alternative cooler with a black or red look that fits. If not, no big deal. I don't need CLCs, I'm not much into water cooling. Finally, if I were to replace the stock 212X fan with say Corsair SP120, would that be a good idea or just stick to the stock? I picked Corsair SP120 over the Noctuas as it matches with the case color (red/black). Again, not too concerned about noise levels, although it would be nice to know if it was quieter. To sum up, here are my questions : High profile rams with a 212X on a micro ATX mobo ? Any red or black aftermarket CPU coolers? Good idea to replace stock 212X fan with SP120? TIA!
