  1. Raspberry Pi 3. A little back story first, I bought the original pi with the plans to turn it into a retro gaming device. It ran atari, nes, snes etc just fine but when I tried to play n64 (Super Mario 64 specifically) it would skip and have issues. Same goes for PS1. When the Pi 2 came out I was hopeful and installed EmulationStation again. Even after overclocking the Pi 2 it still isnt powerful enough to run Super Mario 64 on EmulationStation properly (audio cuts in and out). It is so close to working fine but at this point I have spent $100 on the two Raspberry Pi's. And an hesitant to buy the third. Im a long time fan of LTT and would love to see a video of you guys building a "RetroPie" using EmulationStation on the Raspberry Pi 3. And specifically see how it runs n64 and PS1. I think it would be a really fun video and would love to see a LTT video on this project!
  2. I like the sleeper style of the keyboard and the wooden look on their headphones.
  3. The Pentium G3240 is working great for my build, it has PLENTY of power for a HTPC. Handles 4K well, Bluray is great, and obviously any other method of video playback. If you plan to use it for games, it does not run smoothly with the exception of Minesweeper. All in all, great processor. Happy with its price to power ratio.
  4. Well I was able to contact the owner of the phone and he called into MetroPCS and they are going to email him the unlock code. Then he will forward the unlock code when he gets it withing the next 72 hours. So, maybe not the most helpful conclusion to this thread, but that's how I'm going to solve the issue.
  5. I bought a Samsung Galaxy S4 (SGH-M919N) the other day. It was used on the metropcs network. I want to unlock the phone so it I can go to T-Mobile. I know that this last model of the S4 for metropcs supposts GSM not CDMA. So I know it is possible, I'm just having a difficult time figuring it out.
  6. I went with the Pentium G3240. I have been using it for a month now and it handles 1080p content just fine. For anyone building a streaming machine, the newer Pentiums are a fine choice. Thanks for all your responses!
  7. The 4790K and 4690K are going to be out on June 25th.... I would wait a couple weeks.
  8. Great comments! I never noticed the Asus did not have dual BIOS, since I have never overclocked before I have a feeling that could be a lifesaver! Two questions though, what are vcheckpoints and what is sata power interface?
  9. Ok thanks for the info, the Gigabyte has a rebate and is $30 cheaper. I just cant figure out why everyone says Asus is so good when Gigabyte seems to have more options.
  10. I have considered MSI, but have found that in the Z87 series both Gigabyte and Asus seem to beat it out and have more options for the money. Well this is my thought process I suppose. I actually think in day light, the Gigabyte looks better until you turn the lights out. The Gigabyte has two more USB 3.0 ports and has an extra PCI express slot. The Gigabyte model also has SATAexpress but does not have M.2 storage options. The Asus on the other hand looks badass with the lights and has M.2 but does not have SATAexpress. I dont know whether the M.2 or SATAexpress will be better down the road. As it stands though, I think I like the Gigabyte board a little bit better...
  11. Im looking at two motherboards head to head: Gigabyte GA-Z97X Gaming GT vs ASUS Maximus XII Hero Z97 I keep going back and forth for many reasons, what do you guys think? Which one would you choose and why?
  12. I don't know why I said EVGA, I meant ASUS and Gigabyte. I'm guessing you have been happy with your ASUS boards? My plan with getting the Pentium is because I plan to later build a Home Theater PC. So the Pentium would be plenty for that and have low wattage. And thanks for your response about the SSD. That was helpful. M.2 and SATA express are the biggest changes to the Z97 chipset. It is inevitable that they will be used in most high end systems by next year. My "bonus" question was whether I could get an SSD right now that is fast enough to make use of the future 10Gb/sec ports. I'm not sure if the SSD drives themselves are going to change at all, or whether it will only be the cable and the ports on the motherboards. Sorry if that question is unclear, I'm still trying to figure out how the next gen storage options are going to work.
  13. I agree, if you don't already have a SSD then definitely get one. Go for the 780 and if if you feel real crazy then in a year, get another one and run SLI.
  14. So I am building a PC right now and I have some decisions to make... I have my case (Thermaltake Level 10 GT), my power supply (Seasonic G750 Semi-Modular), multiple 7200rpm drives, and my graphics card (MSI GTX 760). I stopped building this PC last month because I knew that the z97 motherboards would be coming out shortly. So I returned my z87 and waited... Now the z97 boards are out. 1st question: What suggestions do you guys have for the motherboard? I'm not really interested in MSI, but I like EVGA and Gigabyte. Is the m.2 that big of a deal? Or will SATAexpress suit me just as well? They both are rated for 10Gbs/sec. 2nd question: Intel just delayed Devils Canyon and Broadwell. I would like to overclock, but would like to wait for DC or Broadwell. Until then I am looking at getting a cheap Pentium G3240 that will fit in the 1150 socket, then I will upgrade to one I really want later on. Does this sound like a good plan? 3rd question: What kind of SSD should I get and what size? I'm thinking either 128 or 256 since I will have OS installed as well as most of my weekly programs like Photoshop etc. Bonus question: What is my best bet for being able to use my SSD with Sata Express? There's not much info on this yet... If you can answer any of these that would be great! Thanks!
  15. Thanks everyone for your responses. I'm going to go with the Intel Pentium G3240. I will comment again once I get everything up and running and let you guys know how well it works.
