  1. This was really interesting, I'd completely forgotten about that Sony Playstation TV, the "splitscreen" mode was so awesome! I have an old (like 120+ years old) Perfecscope (stereoscopic handheld viewer like the one from the newspaper ad at start of the video), found it at a thrift store here in Europe a few years ago in very good condition , it's actually exceptionally good, the glass lenses are amazing, especially considering its age, it is exceptionally clear compared to a lot of modern implementations that use Fresnel lenses
  2. I would LOVE a video where @LinusTechgoes to FreeGeek or something (Dumpster-diving, flea-market, thrift-store), and just goes completely nostalgia on stuff and reminisce about how cool this or that doodad was when it came out, I love whenever Linus gets sidetracked, so why not fill a whole video with it? If you collab with FreeGeek, Linus can also help raise awareness of how we can reduce waste, by reusing and recycling things?
  3. Oh you misunderstand, I want a MITER for steel Oh that's good too, still need to get BotW for our switch, haven't played it yet
  4. Awesome! We got our house about 8 months ago now, and I've been looking for tools to kit out the workshop (garage) since then, and finally found a drill-press today, it's in really rough shape, but some TLC and oil and it will be right as rain But I'd kill for a good miter that could do metal!
  5. So, today on one of my many flea-market escapades, I came across a big box of assorted cables, there was all your standard things, DVI cables, VGA cables, power cords, SATA cables etc., but just as I was getting to the end, a strange USB connector peaked out at the bottom of the box, and I immediately recognised it from Linus' video from a few years back, I dug down to the bottom of the case in a rush, only to realise, that the cable was still on the spool, and that it had never been unwound from said spool, after inspecting it a bit more, it turns out to be the 50 meter version (165ft) which at the time of release was priced at just over $600. ? So, now I have a 50 meter optical USB 3 cable, that I'm not quite sure what to do with, but I'm just stoked to get a chance to see it in real life! ? While this might not be my biggest or craziest "find" ever, it surely is one of the coolest! What crazy and off finds have you guys made in unexpected places? (Flea-markets, Dumpster-diving, junkyards etc.) ?
  6. Finally found the issue now that I had a chance to visit him. So he is apparently in the Windows Insider program, and one of the updates he got, added something called "Microphone Privicy" to his settings menu in Windows, and when that is enabled, it mutes all audio input to the PC, but it doesn't appear in the sound settings to be muted, disabling Microphone Privicy fixed the issue.
  7. I've made sure he has the latest version of the Realtek drivers for his mobo. I've also made sure to try and uninstall the drivers for both the headset and the Snowball through Device Manager, then tried Windows 10's "Automatic driver install" or whatever it's called, when that failed, I tried uninstalling again and installing them as more or less "Generic" audio devices (as that seems to be how most people fix thier issues with thier Snowballs) But again non of that worked. He has audio OUT of his headset as well as his bookshelf speakers, but he can't get audio IN to his pc, not the Headset and not the Snowball
  8. Not all of them but he has tried multiple, and with his old headset, the output worked on all the usb ports he tried but mic never worked. Again, the device shows up perfectly as it's supposed to, but the equalizer just always sits at zero. Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately he doesn't have a 3.5mm Jack mic to try with, it's all usb based.
  9. Hey folks! My girlfriends nephew is having issues with his PC not taking any audio input from any device. I've tried to remote into his pc to fix the issue but to no avail. To clarify, his headsets mic used to work, but now, nothing does. (equalizer doesn't move no matter what mic he tries to use, and nothing goes through skype) Things I've tried: * I've tried to use his old headsets mic, and his new Blue Snowball. * I've tried to uninstall drivers. * Automatical driver install. * Manual driver install. /*(All of the above has been done through Device Manager for both "Audio inputs and outputs" as well as for "Sound, video and Game controllers"'*/ I've watched pretty much all the YT vids available on the sumbject and read a bunch of articals, all of which says to do the same thing, but it does not work in this case. * I've messed around with the Default Format of both mics. * I've made sure the right devices are set as default. * Made sure that there were no "warnings" in Device Manager. * Made sure the devices were not muted and were at 100% level. * Tried with AGC on and off. That's what I can remember trying at the time of writing. Side note: when he rightclicks his volume icon task trey, there isn't a "Recording Devices" option, but it shows up just fin in the actual Sounds menu. Bonus Side Note: Skype says "Can't access your sound card" but then again, windoes doesn't seem to be able to either? Since "Listen to this Device" doesn't works either? He's running Win10 (not sure what version) and he's using an AsRock Z77 Pro3 motherboard with an I5 2500k and a GTX 680 (no added sound card). I don't know what can be wrong at this point? Dead onboard sound card? But I don't understand why only the input end would be dead then? Output works just fine. Any clues?
  10. "So this is how liberty dies... With thunderous applause."
  11. As part of an awareness campaign, against "Trick-Thievery" (con-artists), the police or northern Jutland in Denmark in a Tweet today, took shots at the new Star Wars Battlefront 2 game, when they tweeted out: "Have you, or someone you know, been victims of Trick-Thievery? Or did you just happen to buy Star Wars Battlefront II? Then join us here, and avoid being tricked [Link]" I find it most amusing that the police has a sense of humor on the topic, along with being pretty "up to speed" with current event. I hope it's allowed to post this in the Tech section. Link:
  12. Aye, I feel QHD would have made more sense
  13. Did you think LG's new 42" 4k monitor was big, think again! Phillips is prepearing to release thier new 49-inch 32:9 UltraWide curved monitor, the Philips 492P8. The monitor is supposidly going to come in at just under $1100, and is repordetly going to be released in Q2 of 2018. Some spec highlights are: 49-inch VA display panel Native resolution of 3840 × 1080 pixels 32:9 aspect ratio Brightness up to 600cd/m² Contrast up to 5000:1 Personally, I'm curious to see, if 3840*1080 isn't a tad bit small for a monitor this size, especially the screen-door effect. http://www.anandtech.com/show/11813/philips-readies-curved-ultrawide-492p8-display http://hexus.net/tech/news/monitors/109976-philips-readies-49-inch-329-ultrawide-curved-va-monitor/
  14. Thanks a lot, this makes fine sense to me, I was think that syncronization and thread halting might be one of the issues. And I'm not worried about my current system, I know full well my 1070 is the bottle neck, I'm just inquisitive about the entire thing
  15. Thank you, that's exactly what I'm looking for. Like I said, if any of you have any articles, tests, or whatever, that people have done, I'd be happy to see them.
