  1. wonder if theres a short somewhere frying them, hdds can handle more voltage than an ssd sif your getting voltage spikes that may be it
  2. I don't plan on upgrading just dont have money too, just bought an SSD, cpu cooler, and case so im slowly upgrading
  3. Yes got an old hp dc7900 for $10 threw 8gb ram a new psu and the gtx 460 on it, all i can afford currently
  4. I've always been under the impression that a video card requiring extra power from the PSU would preform better but I guess with the way technology has been evolving I'm sure I can benefit from even a cheap upgrade, question is will my E8400 bottle neck a gtx 1050 or gtx 1060?
  5. I just think people don't want to risk frying their $800 video cards, atleast till prices start coming back down
  6. yeah one I had was a XFX core edition one
  7. ordered new case and CPU cooler yesterday, getting cramped in the stock case, lets see if we can get the temps down a little more
  8. powersupplies are cheap look online even if you buy used, I just picked up a Corsair TX850 for $30 which will be more than enough to support me for a while I would recommend a psu in the 450w range
  9. yes you can but I would seriously suggest upgrading that PSU
  10. I second drivers
  11. that does sound like throttling, have you restarted your pc? are all your drivers up to date? one program wont kill your performance
  12. that's a good PSU I would go with a modular one though, cable managment with none modular PSUs can be a pia

    SLI

I did find a C2Q Q9650 on ebay that I've placed a bid on, I know this processor is a fair bit better than the E8400 I mostly play older games and it does decently just wanting to get a little more out, PC does bench higher than the build thats in my sig, I am looking for a better case so I can have better cooling

    SLI

ok guys few questions, as this will be my first time running cards in SLI, if you have seen my new build log you know I am trying to resurect an old build and see what I can get out of it, I've already got an 850w power supply so I figured I could grab another GTX 460 SE and run them in SLI, question will my C2D E8400 be a bottle neck running them in SLI, second I've seen bench marks and its nearly double the performance but cant seem to find any real life tests, what kinda frame rate should I expect to gain when I run the video cards in SLI
  15. current overclock GTX 460 just trying to see what I can get out of this old hardware, had to mod the bios to unlock the fan speed Evga had it capped at 70%..stupid, I also need a better case using a stock HP DC7900 case andd airflow is none existant in thee case had to turn the fan in the PSU into an intake fan to keep the ramm cool and thats with the sidepannel off
