How much bottleneck'd am I?
Tazub replied to Juggernautilus's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
CPU's rarely bottleneck cards as much any more, games seem to be (totally anecdotal BTW) much more GPU intensive nowadays. Odd game may only work well with 4 cores/threads though. -
I have a Zotac gtx 670, so I know they make solid cards. Would love that AMP Extreme though, it looks like the GPU Batman would use.

G3258 multitasking and general windowings
Tazub replied to theloveablemoose's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Well I have a G3420 in my steam streaming box, and in general non-gaming usage, it isn't much different from my 4670k overclocked. With some games it can make a lot of difference though. Do you mind giving some examples of the non-cpu intensive games you play? I only ask because some newer games which are coded to use more than 2 cores, will run better on 4 lower clocked cores, than they ever could on 2 overclocked cores. -
A cx500m will probably be able to handle 1 gtx 970 and any processor overclocked no problem. Cx600 could probably handle 2, but I wouldn't overclock that much, just in case.

Half Life 2. No question about it.

Steam + Origin + Uplay = 180. I have completed all but 3 of them, so I almost don't have a steam backlog anymore! If you include consoles, then that number jumps up another 60 or so after you take out games I have repurchased on PC.

It is a solid console shooter, I'm only at level 9 but I have enjoyed it so far, the PVP is great. The way I see it there are 2 kinds of games I enjoy, cinematic story driven games (TLOU, Bioshock, The Witcher etc) and games that are fun because of great gameplay mechanics (Far Cry, Hitman etc). Sometimes they overlap, like GTA or Deus Ex. Destiny falls into that second camp, its just a fun game and it controls well. Not GOTY or anything, but still decent. It also controls surprisingly well with a controller.

Not that impressed with the desktop GPU's, but those mobile ones look awesome!

Haswell for gaming, yay or nay?
Tazub replied to LaboonTheWhale's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I have a 4670k @4.5ghz, its a solid processor and I would definitely recommend it. Haswell has the highest IPC, and at least for what I use my computer (gaming) 4 cores are more than enough. -
Dust can really heat up a system, when is the last time your PC was dusted? I know it seems like a small thing, but when I started dusting my PC, my case temperature went down 10 degrees! Does your case have adequate ventilation as well?

Can I use steam In-Home Streaming with this setup?
Tazub replied to iiNrG's topic in Troubleshooting
It is powerful enough, because in-home streaming has Intel Quicksync support, which is supported on the z3770 processor in the t100. Hardware decoding should make it quite feasible. Don't know if the wifi module in the T100 is good enough for streaming though, I've only been using a wired connection to my stream box (with a dual core pentium G3420 - which has quicksync). Well, the processor is definitely good enough. I found a video on YouTube with steam streaming on that laptop: -
Loving that glass/metal finish. Doesn't hurt that it also has a great battery. Nice job on the custom skin as well, I would love rocking that linustech branding!

27 inch 1080p at just under 1m is a great viewing experience.

Once you go IPS you can't go back... But it's a difference that you only really notice after you have to use a TN panel again.

I would reccomend the MSI gpu (I've had good experience with twin frozr before), though XFX one is still pretty good. If noise or temps arent that important to you though, I'd just pick whichever one is cheaper.

Although the hadron air is a nice looking case, the way it is built makes it unwise to use a fan style cooler, so you really have to stick to reference design blower cards. These are going to be louder, so I don't know how you feel about that, as you said you want a quiet pc. Heat is going to be an issue in this case, so you really should be going nvidia over amd. A reference gtx760 might be good, and you might save a few bucks, but if you are prepared to stretch a little more for a 770 reference then maybe this Zotac Card: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/2gb-zotac-gtx-770-overclocked-28nm-pcie-30-(x16)-7010mhz-gddr5-gpu-1072mhz-boost-1124mhz-cores-1536- With regards to the processor, that is a good CPU, but it is unnecessary for gaming. Pick up a 4670k or 4690k instead - not only will you be able to overclock, it is clocked higher, it is cheaper, and it will most likely perform better in games. 4670k: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/intel-intel-core-i5-4670k-s-1150-haswell-quad-core-34ghz-38ghz-turbo-1200mhz-gpu-34x-ratio-84w-retai 4690k: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/intel-core-i5-4690k-s1150-haswell-4-core-35ghz-39ghz-turbo-5-gt-s-dmi-12ghz-gpu-34x-ratio-84w-retail The money you save on the CPU, will offset the higher cost for the GPU.

best gaming CPU for under 120 EUR?
Tazub replied to Phoenix70's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I really have to recommend AMD here, not only are all AMD processors overclockable, you get more cores for the price. FX6300 is a good cpu, but I would go athlon 760k which would be cheaper and perform almost as good in games. Austin Evans did a really overview of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIT9uLDjZcg. -
best gaming CPU for under 120 EUR?
Tazub replied to Phoenix70's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
You really want to go quad core, games are much better at utilising multiple cores nowadays. On a budget AMD makes more sense in terms of bang for the buck. FX 6300 would be the best, but it is on a dead socket, so maybe a athlon 760K? Really great price/performance and overclocking. -
R9 270 is a better choice, but depending where you live is considerably more expensive. If you can get it for roughly the same price, that would be the better option of course. But the IPC of both the athlon or fx are roughly the same, so if he is only looking at a quad core, 750k/760k makes more sense. If he wants to swap out the cpu at some point for a new Apu and go dual graphics he has that option. This is not a high end build, so i think that makes more sense.

Loving that brushed aluminium finish, there is no material like it!

Neither CPU will bottleneck that card. 750k does work on FM2+ motherboard though. If at some point in the near future you want to upgrade your CPU, 750k might be the more prudent choice, as AM3+ is a dead socket. If you don't think you will upgrade the CPU independent of the motherboard, the FX series CPU's are probably the smarter choice. Also the 750ti is a good graphics card to consider if you can stretch for that, I would recommend it over the 260X.
