  1. Asking about peoples OC's on chips or what the averages between two chips is a crap shoot honestly. It all comes down to the silicon lottery. If you get a "great" chip and have the cooling to handle it, your chip make OC like a beast. Get a "crappy" chip, in terms of OC, and that extra 1Ghz may be all you get. In the end, get the chip that fits your budget and gives You the most value for what it brings to the table. Any extra OC you get on said chip is icing on the cake.
  2. Just a note, do not use RED drives. They are to slow. Having worked with various surveillance builds and with GeoVision and Axis techs, no one recommends Red drives, they are simply to slow for recording. Get Red Pro at the least, or any 7200 RPM drive. Geovision works fine. For back end storage you could use a unRaid server like Linus uses. Unless you have a REALLY high speed link, you will need local storage at the office to store data, and the replicate it home. Another option, depending on your Camera's, QNAP units, which can be licensed for camera usage. And then you can use the built in tools for replicating data office data to the home unit.
  3. Lian-Li has some small ATX cases - check out their product site. Not the cheapest, but they are excellent quality. Also Silverstone might have something you like, they have a lot of smaller cases. Enthoo make some excellent models. NZXT Source 210, Fractal Design R4... some of the things that come to mind.
  4. Correct, same as when Outlook moves something to the SPAM/Junk folder, that is Outlook deciding that in its infinite wisdom.
  5. It's a formatting issue with Night Theme. Edit your original post, highlight all the text and then in the editor toolbar, click the T with the subscript x next to it. This is a "remove formating" control. The save and should be fixed for night theme users. You most likely copy and pasted that text from somewhere else and it carried over the formatting.
  6. FYI - Rogers has had unlimited data packages for years, you just had to call and ask and was a small charge. Now, for about the past year or more, many of their packages actually just include unlimited bandwidth. It's a good policy to always be check the website regularly to see if they offering better packages for less than you paying... At 2.5TB per month, unlimited cap has been a requirement for me for some time
  7. You probably need to re-install your GPU drivers, that file should be installed by them.
  8. Classified section up - bit different from the plugin, but should work until we get a new one. READ THE GUIDELINES!! https://linustechtips.com/main/forum/89-classifieds/
  9. @Henry Then don't got with this solution - it's dead. Go with GPU's for max points.
  10. My totally unofficial testing on my rigs, so your mileage may vary, but here is what I saw. On my GPU rigs I decided to see what kind of impact NACL/Chrome Folding would have. Rig 1 - Dual 780's water cooled Rig 2 - Dual 560's Rig 3 - 960 On all three I saw a noticeable drop in my GPU PPD when NACL folding at high or even medium, but only a vary minor drop when at low. Again this will all depend on your CPU, etc. If you have a GPU Folding and a core i3, then NACL folding will probably hit you harder then it did me. All my CPU's are i7's.
  11. FYI, make sure you are at the "top" of the forum, the next to the Community drop down, on the far left, you will notice a little Pin symbol. Hit it to pin and un-pin the nav bar.
  12. We know emails are not getting to MS domains... for other domains there can be various transient issues why they don't show up. Use the contact use form and list all the details for your various accounts (since it sounds like you have multiple now) and will work to get you sorted out.
  13. Yes, if you don't have the top nav bar pinned, seems to display properly.
  14. Yes, for us geeks and tinkerers the home built solutions can be amazing, powerfully and very customizable. But for your average joe out there that just needs a a basic nas, a QNAP or Synology unit can be hands down the best solution.
  15. Gaming System - 4770k and two 780's full time, watercooled Gaming system two - 4660 and 960 System three - two 560's Four systems doing NACL Folding
  16. I have used QNAP and the Pro series and performance is outstanding. There is PLEX plugin for then to transcode, but then you would need a smart TV (and not all work with plex) or a HTPC. But some models of QNAP now come with HDMI ports for direct connection to your TV.
  17. I can't say there is a best practice on this. As long as it meets your needs and performs the way you need it to, why fix what isn't broke.
  18. So let me through my two cents into this. I think much of your post is valid, to a point. It is also heavily reliant on what NAS OS you are using and what you want it to do in the end. So, something like FreeNAS with ZFS pools, although not "required" it is pretty much a given you want to run ECC memory. But even with standard memory, you will want a ton of it. Moving onto the hardware RAID in a server, you need to match up all your drives in an array to properly use them. So, if you have one 3TB drive, yep, you going to need more 3TB drives. And an expensive RAID card... I will then point out a solution like unRAID, which is designed to run with basic hardware and a mix of drive sizes and technology. You can actually do an unRAID server pretty cheaply and with old hardware and get a decent server with some data protection. Now, what are you doing with it? If just hosting data for your LAN, then ya, you do not need anything very powerful. But, you also want to host Dockers, VM's, do transcoding for video playback? Then ya, you will need to throw some hardware at it so plan for the expense Summarize - there are a LOT of NAS solutions out there to fit various needs. Figure out what your needs are first and do some research. Yep, they can cost a pretty penny but they can also be done pretty economically as well.
  19. Ya, I would try just one CPU to start off with. My SM boards would boot with a single CPU in socket 1 or 2, so you could also try that.
  20. If you are a small business and familiar with Windows you could go with Foundation or Essentials server, setup a domain and away you go... https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/server-cloud/products/windows-server-2012-r2-essentials/Comparison.aspx
  21. This discussions is ok, as the OP was just inquiring about warning points and not arguing about the original issue itself. OP - I can hide it if you like, just let me know.
