  3. Thanks everyone, good advice. Its going to come down to cost but all things considered this has helped alot.
  4. I have read threads all over and it is time to put money down I would love the help of the LinusTechTips community to help me decide I have just moved into a flat with my 2 mates. Their rooms are either side of mine and i am worried that if i buy open headphones the sound leak will be a problem. Because of this i have really only looked at closed headphones but I'm not 100% ignoring open headphones outright. So far i think the AKG K550 offer what seems to be 'close to open' sound and good isolation. Other options are: DT 770 (which version?), and ATH M50's I have a Gigabyte Z87-UD4H which will run the headphones. Do i need a sound card or amp? What do you all think? Am i wrong to play it safe with closed headphones or is open totally worth it? What would you recommend as a headphone and/or set up? Thanks everyone.
  5. I will attempt these solutions during the night, many thanks all.
  6. Im procrastinating over this issue i have. This is what has occured: I knew i was building a new pc so took advantage of that windows 8 upgrade offer by downloading it through microsoft onto a blank usb 3 device When i came to install it all worked but it gave me 32 bit windows 8 The PC i downloaded it on was running 32bit i think (it wasnt mine) How can i get 64 bit WITHOUT having to spend any more cash, or am i screwed? Any help would be much appreciated. (I have a product key)
  7. I like the dualshocks better. I've heard nothing but good things about the dualshock 4 from the people who have had hands on with the controller. So Playstation.

  11. Thanks. I cant believe how quick people are on here.
  12. I looking for advice from people who have built a high-end system, and/or a mid-low end system. I'm starting uni in about 2 weeks and my aged 2006 macbook, that i got when i was in my early teens and didn't know how to build yet, wont cut it anymore. I have over the last years learnt all that i should on computer hardware and now have a strong intrest into doing it for the first time. I have a question though that i cant yet answer. If i build a high end machine will i feel like that extra money will have been wasted and i should have built a mid-low end, or vice versa? For more context: I have the funds to go ahead with a £2000 ish build (i consider that highend). I have no hardware now that i can reuse. I've never built before (confident i can easily do it though). Some of this money will have to go on peripherals and a desk and chair. The short of it is this. I go for a nice build and live on a budget for a year or two, OR go for a lower end build and live more comfortably. (i undertand this is all a matter of perspective though) Has anyone here built a high end build and regret it? Or has anyone held back but wish they didnt?
  13. true. I'm fairly sure i heard that xfx are oem from seasonic, so an xfx is really a seasonic. I'm curious though about how some power supplies will work with that haswell sleepstate with its low draw from the wall?
  14. Hi all, Having seen Linus's Steelseries desk, i though about having a design on my own desk. I don't think i can do a vinyl wrap like he did, but I'd just like to paint a easy design or something onto my desk. My desk is all white (rectangle) so i think i could either paint just a logo/design from a stencil i could make, or make or the whole desk a different colour while coving a logo/design with a stencil thereby keeping that part white. Any ideas on WHAT to paint or alternatives? Just want something kind of custom on my desk, like my PC :) Additional Note: My PC colour scheme is black to white on a greyscale, but with a hint of blue (heatsink on mobo) Case is fractal r4 (windowed) with "titanium" front panel black, white and grey/silver Monitor is Asus designo MX 27" silver Keyboard CMstorm quickfire tk black with white led Mouse is a Steelseries kana white edit: thanks all. My brothers computer set up turned out really well. Waiting on some more stuff and i take pics.
