Yeah and they literally F**ked up, organically, not maliciously.

As the two agreed for it to be returned (later), yes LMG bears that responsibility, of course they do.  But to feign mortal wounds over something that started off to not be seen again, is disingenuous at best.

This is done using vlans. The non managed switches should be able to pass everything through to your APs then you assign one vlan to your guest network ssid and one to your regular ssid.

No you just described it verbatim.  You know "do Job => get paid"

Im not defending it, LMG screwed up, their inventory mgmt practices appear to be fairly shoddy.  Which is more than obvious in MANY videos.
The aspect I am discussing are people like yourself bending over backwards to paint Billet Labs as some poor deprived company being trounced by the evil empire.  People need to get over themselves and understand the inferred harm here is WAAAAAY overblown and this situation should never have been public just like personal disputes.
Also your timeline is fairly far off.  It the email agreeing to return and auction was around 2 weeks.

How F***ked is it when the original agreement had LMG keeping the cooler.  It was only AFTER the review that they requested it back.  All inferences of lost time, money, IP, etc encurred by Billet Labs must be weighed against the fact that when they first shipped it, their stated intention, was to never see it again.
To shit the bed afterwards and demand it back cause you didn't get the exposure you wanted paints them as fairly disingenuous at best.
Now they get a shit ton of exposure and sympathy from teh community and $'s from LTT.  Its pretty shitty and transparent and something that REALLY should have been taken care of between them and LTT.  This is more like airing relationship details on reddit, just unnecessary.
Reporting on quality of data etc, fair game and worthy of reporting, even if way over hyped

If the library initially said you could keep it and then asked for it back because you didnt like it (even if you read it backwards and upsidedown)....  Doesn't the library have a little responsibility for the loss of the book.  Also is the library REALLY that harmed if they initially planned on giving it away?

Also your entire basis of understanding way off.  This was a REVIEW not a PAID Sponsorship.  One is specifically not paid nor should be influe3nced by the mfg, the other is a paid segment that mfg has input on.. you know cause they paid for it....
Even disregarding your complete lack of understanding of things, Based on your logic, LMG did satisfy "the deal".  BL offered the device for review with LMG free to keep it.  LMG did the review, and no messaging I have seen demonstrates that they agreed to do a well done review, just a review so yeah, its LMG to keep, by your logic.
Did LMG agree to BL change of terms after the review, yes they did.
Did they then screw up and sell it.  Yes they did.
Was it stupid, yes, very much so.
    Malicious not so much.
So your whole do job/break deal nonsense above is just that nonsense.

That comment from someone from LTT labs was at the start of the first video, and the employee did not say "better", he said something about new hardware, new tests, etc etc whatever that means. Please do correct me if I'm wrong here.

Again, to avoid confusion - I was talking about his second video (in HW news) where instead of laying down the facts in a proper manner he got personal and unprofessionally harsh in his responses because he was DiSsApPoInTeD with what was basically a rushed forum post before waiting for a proper official reaction of a company. And sure, everyone got pissed by that reply, but I don't really know how can one expect a proper, structured reply and reaction to a problem of such magnitude that fast. Company's gears don't turn that fast to sort systemic issues within hours.

And I watch GN regularly so you can have your assumptions back. By "abrasive" I do not mean proper "truth first" journalism I mean he went irresponsibly personal and insulting in his reaction in the second vid. As if he is one of the forum rageposters here, not a big boy pants tech journalist caring for the industry. He laid down his concerns about data accuracy in his first vid, then came pure drama.

I disagree.  Not a F**ked as you think.   Billet Labs initially sent the device to LMG... TO KEEP.  As in do not send back, LMG keeps it.   Its was not until it got a sh*t review that they asked for it back.
This communication was with an employee, not Linus.

There won't be a big WAN Show segment about this or anything. Most of what I have to say, I've already said, and I've done so privately.

To Steve, I expressed my disappointment that he didn't go through proper journalistic practices in creating this piece. He has my email and number (along with numerous other members of our team) and could have asked me for context that may have proven to be valuable (like the fact that we didn't 'sell' the monoblock, but rather auctioned it for charity due to a miscommunication... AND the fact that while we haven't sent payment yet, we have already agreed to compensate Billet Labs for the cost of their prototype). There are other issues, but I've told him that I won't be drawn into a public sniping match over this and that I'll be continuing to move forward in good faith as part of 'Team Media'. When/if he's ready to do so again I'll be ready.

To my team (and my CEO's team, but realistically I was at the helm for all of these errors, so I need to own it), I stressed the importance of diligence in our work because there are so many eyes on us. We are going through some growing pains - we've been very public about them in the interest of transparency - and it's clear we have some work to do on internal processes and communication. We have already been doing a lot of work internally to clean up our processes, but these things take time. Rome wasn't built in a day, but that's no excuse for sloppiness.

Now, for my community, all I can say is the same things I always say. We know that we're not perfect. We wear our imperfection on our sleeves in the interest of ensuring that we stay accountable to you. But it's sad and unfortunate when this transparency gets warped into a bad thing. The Labs team is hard at work hard creating processes and tools to generate data that will benefit all consumers - a work in progress that is very much not done and that we've communicated needs to be treated as such. Do we have notes under some videos? Yes. Is it because we are striving for transparency/improvement? Yeah... What we're doing hasn't been in many years, if ever.. and we would make a much larger correction if the circumstances merited it. Listing the wrong amount of cache on a table for a CPU review is sloppy, but given that our conclusions are drawn based on our testing, not the spec sheet, it doesn't materially change the recommendation. That doesn't mean these things don't matter. We've set KPIs for our writing/labs team around accuracy, and we are continually installing new checks and balances to ensure that things continue to get better. If you haven't seen the improvement, frankly I wonder if you're really looking for it... The thoroughness that we managed on our last handful of GPU videos is getting really incredible given the limited time we have for these embargoes. I'm REALLY excited about what the future will hold.

With all of that said, I still disagree that the Billet Labs video (not the situation with the return, which I've already addressed above) is an 'accuracy' issue. It's more like I just read the room wrong. We COULD have re-tested it with perfect accuracy, but to do so PROPERLY - accounting for which cases it could be installed in (none) and which radiators it would be plumbed with (again... mystery) would have been impossible... and also didn't affect the conclusion of the video... OR SO I THOUGHT...

I wanted to evaluate it as a product, and as a product, IF it could manage to compete with the temperatures of the highest end blocks on the planet, it still wouldn't make sense to buy... so from my point of view, re-testing it and finding out that yes, it did in fact run cooler made no difference to the conclusion, so it didn't really make a difference.

Adam and I were talking about this today. He advocated for re-testing it regardless of how non-viable it was as a product at the time and I think he expressed really well today why it mattered. It was like making a video about a supercar. It doesn't mater if no one watching will buy it. They just wanna see it rip.  I missed that, but it wasn't because I didn't care about the consumer.. it was because I was so focused on how this product impacted a potential buyer. Either way, clearly my bad, but my intention was never to harm Billet Labs. I specifically called out their incredible machining skills because I wanted to see them create something with a viable market for it and was hoping others would appreciate the fineness of the craftsmanship even if the product was impractical. I still hope they move forward building something else because they obviously have talent and I've watched countless niche water cooling vendors come and go. It's an astonishingly unforgiving market.

Either way, I'm sorry I got the community's priorities mixed-up on this one, and that we didn't show the Billet in the best light. Our intention wasn't to hurt anyone. We wanted no one to buy it (because it's an egregious waste of money no matter what temps it runs at) and we wanted Billet to make something marketable (so they can, y'know, eat).

With all of this in mind, it saddens me how quickly the pitchforks were raised over this. It also comes across a touch hypocritical when some basic due diligence could have helped clarify much of it. I have a LONG history of meeting issues head on and I've never been afraid to answer questions, which lands me in hot water regularly, but helps keep me in tune with my peers and with the community. The only reason I can think of not to ask me is because my honest response might be inconvenient.

We can test that... with this post. Will the "It was a mistake (a bad one, but a mistake) and they're taking care of it" reality manage to have the same reach? Let's see if anyone actually wants to know what happened. I hope so, but it's been disheartening seeing how many people were willing to jump on us here. Believe it or not, I'm a real person and so is the rest of my team. We are trying our best, and if what we were doing was easy, everyone would do it. Today sucks.

This might be a conterversial opinion, I don't really know but I haven't seen anyone else really say it so...

This really isn't that bad... It just feels bad because it's youtuber drama.

Some mildly innaccurate graphs, an item mistakenly marked as "keep, not for return", 1 lacklustre review, some sloppy business processes and a business owners ego and emotions running around before he is checked by his managers (not neccesarily managers in hierarchy).

They clearly addressed multiple points and steps they've already taken, explained what occured with this whole waterblock thing (including showing the evidence that it was negligence and not malicious action) and had a clear apologetic communication out to the company within a reasonable timeframe.

At the end of the day they are an entertainment company.

It doesn't take a genius to see that.

I'm never going to take advice on a serious purchase from an LTT review. I am going to go the first three results when I google the product name with the word 'review' after it once I've read the product specification sheet and see if it all matches.

I'm never going to build a data storage server from off the shelf components and go install it in someone's home for them to store the entirety of their business data on because it's 'cheaper'. I'm going to pay Dell or HP and absurd amount of money so that if something breaks I can have a tech with spare parts there with a few hours.

I, and I dare say most other people watch the videos as they are entertaining. I don't care about graphs, or some bungled prototype and I dare to say 90% of his viewers don't either.

As for his staff having to deal with effectively a vaguely crunchy schedule. I don't really care. They have an option to leave if they decide they are undervalued and overworked and I would encourage them to do so if that's the case and it doesn't look to improve. Say their peice and move on. And judging by the limited reviews on glass door some employees did, and other didn't find the workload to be that challenging.

But seriously, it's a business going through growing pains with a kind of neourtic (now ex) CEO. Dime a dozen. It's a workplace like any other really by the sounds of it, good managers, bad managers, effective employees and ineffective employees. Welcome to the real world, no company is ever going to be a perfect place to work.

Pertaining to journalism as thats what Steve is purporting to be and standards he espuses to hold himself to.  Asking for comment is the proper path here.  Not asking for a comment for fear of " it's going to give Linus an opportunity to "get ahead of it" and trot out"  only demonstrates someone looking for blood and exercising gotchya "journalism".  Your writing and Steve methods demonstrate that pretty clearly, only reinforced by "It would result in a weakened position for GN for absolutely no gain".  Steve was not the harmed party in any way here.  He is a competitor to LMG, his only position should be that of reporter.  Again, you just looking for blood bro.

The REASON you ask for comment before publishing is so you can report both sides, the audience is smart enough (well sans present company...) to see through a business owner placating an audience when the harmed party is standing there with evidence to the contrary.  ie most of us are not that F'ing stupid or naïve to take placations at face value.  Billet Labs doesnt have their water block, LTT sold it... Cant really argue that its factual.   The audience can also evaluate a company that was dumb enough to send what is allegedly a super pricey one of a kind, business depends on it for survival  device to a MEDIA outlet with zero Terms and Conditions signed and agreed to PRIOR to discharge to said MEDIA outlet.  They only asked for it back after Linus dumped on it, which is telling in its own right.  I would not at all be surprised if their orginial plan was to leave it with LMG to get some additional free exposure.  When that exposure was not what they wanted they ask for it back.  At minumum they are dumb,  I don't know how dumb, but such stupidity is usually obfuscating motive.
To support this, you see, that once money is involved their story changes, now its not a one of a kind we cant survive without, but rather "Nevermind, dont want or need it, give us the dough to fund gen2.0 waterblock".    Thats pretty transparent and an obvious 180 degree change of course from how Steve presented the harm to BIllet Labs, and how Billet Labs characterized it on Reddit.  Its an obvious money grab to fund their activities, which is their prerogative, losing the equipment was LMG's mistake, now LMG gotta pay up.  Its really that simple.

Anecdotally pertaining to requests for comment from both sides.  A great example are local news stations picking up a story of some person getting screwed by a local business.  The reporter ALWAYS interviews (or attempts to interview) the business in question to address the concerns of the person getting screwed.
Those interviews are usually the meat of the article to be honest as you see the business owner having to explain in real time the screw up.

Steve didnt do that, and people like you are cheering it on, pitchforks and torches in hand.  ITs gotchya journalism with little desire to inform the audience but rather trolling the audience to illicit a response.
