  1. Summary Taiwan's GlobalWafers (third largest semiconductor manufacturer with 16% market share) to build $2 billion foundry in Texas, expanding investment to $5 billion overtime. Article also includes a brief walkthrough of the process of making semiconductors as well as an overview of the current global semiconductor market Quotes My thoughts It's an extremely huge deal for a foundry to be built in the US by a major semiconductor manufacturer, especially of this scale. In addition, I haven't seen a summary of the actual process of making semiconductors before, which is fascinating. Sources https://asiatimes.com/2022/08/chips-act-lures-taiwans-globalwafers-to-texas/
  2. Some VR accessory video suggestions: 1) Ultraleap's Leap Motion hand tracking and STRATOS Explore ultrasonic touch haptic feedback. Leap Motion is needed for the STRATOS, but it may be possible to split this into two videos, with the first just going into hand tracking and the second adding the STRATOS. 2) Birdly flight simulator. 3) Compare one or more 360 movement treadmills to each other and normal roomscale.
  3. LTT (or Techquickie) video on the repercussions of SMIC, DJI, and other Chinese companies being blacklisted from receiving US tech products because they have been deemed part of China's defense industry.
  4. While I really enjoyed the comedic aspect of Colton's Intel rig reboot, could y'all audit and fix the builds for all of the not yet filmed one's? For the sake of entertainment value, you could even have the audit be a part of the video, where you go through their original build and Linus points out the issues and suggests alternatives (which would probably need to be recorded before ordering any parts). And in the vein of Smell-o-vision, I stumbled upon UltraLeap's Stratos products, which are ultrasonic hand touch simulator? No clue how well it works, but it would be great to see Linus / Colin test it out. You could also get their Leap Motion (which was made by a company they have since acquired) as part of the same video, or as a separate video.
  5. I think LTT needs to make a video putting forward Louis Rossman's and Jessa from iPad Rehab Microsoldering's perspective on the Drivesaver 'drama' from October 9th's WAN Show. I understand the desire of Linus, and LMG as a whole, to remain neutral in issues like these, but I think only allowing one party of an argument an opportunity to use your platform to make their case is not neutral. I don't believe that there is any ill intent on Linus' part, but it feels irresponsible that he did not speak with Louis or Jessa to allow them a reply to Drivesaver's rebuttal.
  6. Came across https://www.eejournal.com/article/ssds-arent-just-faster-hard-disks/, which talks about rewriting SSD firmware to actually be optimized for SSDs instead of just mapping HDD firmware to SSDs. It looks to only be an enterprise only product, with this code specific to database read/writes, so I'm not sure how a video could be made about this, but I'd love to see something comparing this to "normal" firmware when that becomes possible in a consumer system.
  7. An As Fast As Possible covering all of the typical video game graphics settings, visual representations of what they do, and how much performance each will use would be great.
  8. Linus Tech Tips $h!t Manufacturers Say Some MSI motherboards have a USB port that is marketed (and explicitly labeled) as VR Ready. I haven't seen much documentation around what it actually does, except for marketing claims of a better connector, controller, and power delivery. Compare USB 3.1 Gen 1 Port with MSI VR Ready USB Ports Test on Valve Index and Oculus Quest as best and worst headsets Latency Is the polling rate actually faster? Can you further overclock the VR Ready polling rate? Can you overclock polling rate of VR on USB 3.1 Gen 1 and get same or better benefits? Interference Overall glitchiness / signal loss comparison Power Can you have a longer cord without signal loss using VR Ready than USB 3.1 Gen 1? More reliable power? Not sure how to test this one outside of maybe less glitchiness from power fluctuations. https://www.overclock3d.net/news/cpu_mainboard/msi_adds_vr_optimised_usb_ports_on_their_next_generation_gaming_motherboards/1 Loading Your Entire OS into RAM I know there have been videos around this before, but I'd love to see a video comparing performance with some of the Linux distro's that run entirely in RAM versus normal distro's. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Linux_distributions_that_run_from_RAM Should you even care what USB port you connect to?
