Check pricing of RMX, it is sometimes fairly close in price and is better.

    I'll consider the RMx, thanks

Edit...$10 difference, a few cups of coffee lol. RMx it is.
HX is platinum rated, would paying a premium up-front save you $$$ in the long run 🤔

But .... the new 12 volt PSU will be the norm soon, so my next PC upgrade may need one of these new 12v units, so might as well just get the RMx.

I misremembered the maximum, it's actually 190W. Also here the package power while encoding with x264:

    Intel Core i7-12700K Power Consumption

So you can have some idea of the performance penalty of lowering the power limit, there's a nice post on TechPowerUp forum showing the 12700K in different power limits.

    https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/intel-core-i9-12900k-alder-lake-tested-at-power-limits-between-50-w-and-241-w.289572/page-4#post-4726291

Important to note that some software might be more impacted than others and there might be differences between individual CPUs, so you should do your own testing if you decide to do it.

    Good info, thanks.
I don't like the idea of stressing a PSU at borderline and I think this PSU is about 6+ years old so perhaps I should just upgrade to a nice 850w and sell the 650w combined with the original case, mobo, cpu, ram, cooler.

I'll have a look at that link 👍

Only if you're overclocking or remove the power limits, otherwise the maximum boost is 180W, but it should be around slightly below that at 165W or so under normal full load like Blender and CPU encoding, the maximum would probably only be reached in some stress tests. You can also lower the power limits for a small performance hit if you're worried about the power consumption. You can also undervolt both CPU and GPU and lower quite a bit the power consumption without any noticeable hit to performance.

I'm assuming it's the XFX XTR 650W, which is in the A tier low priority in the tier list.

yeah sry it's the XFX (fixed the typo).

ok 180w seems more reasonable, and good to know I can adjust the power limits.

Thanks all for the info 👍

  4. Hi Guys

    Current system:

    i7 7700 - HWMonitor says 75w under 100%

    RTX2080 - GPU-Z says 220w under 100% load

    XFX XTR 650w (80Gold)

    Upgrade:

    I have on order:
    Intel  i7 12700K
    Gigabyte Z690 Ultra mobo
32GB DDR5 6000, and dual 120mm fan AIO watercooler for the CPU.

Some googling suggests that the 12700K can reach 270watts under full load.

So if both the CPU and GPU were at full load, those two components would reach 490watts, which leaves 160watts for the rest of the system (two 3.5" HDD's, and two M.2 SSD's, Fans, RAM etc..).

I do some occasional handbrake H264 encoding and may play a game at the same time, so potentially it could reach near 100% CPU and GPU usage.

Will that XTR 650w be able to handle the system?
(I don't plan on overclocking anything)

What nobody mentioned was that your GPU seems to be a blower model. They generally run warmer than a non-blower cooler. It also explains why adding a fan near the PSU did little good. Not much you can do other than changing the cooler on the GPU, but really not worth it in my opinion.

The PC Case is a flat desktop design so no space for water cooling.

But I trust nVidia limiting it to 85c so it should be fine.
ps. I've had many nVidia fan cooled cards, none of them have ever failed.
I may get slightly better performance with water cooling, but meh, I'm not fussed about 10% performance TBH.
My monitor is limited to 60FPS anyway lol

    intake.

It'll probably still run at 85C, but it'll boost higher.

Ok I'll go for Intake, makes sense to flow fresh air towards the GPU. I'll probably try exhaust just for laughs, but I think intake would be better.

I'm wandering if its worth removing some of the PCI-E slot covers so the air can escape easier 🤔

Three 120mm fans pushing air in, but not much exhaust flow through the tiny holes
Good to know that 85c is the controlled temp, thanks.

  7. ok so when installing a new rear fan next to the PSU, should it blow outwards rather than inwards?

If it blow inwards, wouldn't the GPU get fresher air?

On the other hand, since there are two large fans at the front, all that air would need help to dissipate, instead of escaping out through all the small holes in the casing and PCI-E covers.

Perhaps I'll try both ways and see which one is better.

Your temps aren't actually (too) high, but yes adding another fan in the slot by you PSU will help get fresh air to your GPU. Clean up them cables too, try to make the path as unhindered as possible. That should force all the air out the back of the case.

ok I'll install another fan and clean up the PSU cables.
Would be nice the run the GPU at a few degrees cooler.

ok, ok interesting. So nothing to worry about. Good to know.

  10. Hey guys,

I have a 2080RTX running at 3440x1440 in a Silverstone GD09 flat desk case and when I play most modern games (such as Call of the Wild) the GPU runs at 99%.

The GPU Temp is 85c at full load which I think is a bit too high after doing some googling, just wandering if its going to affect the longevity of the card. GPU idles at 42c at 0-3% usage.
Would adding an inward flow fan at the back near the PSU make any difference? I think its a 120mm size.

    Some info:
I have already cleaned all the dust out of the case filters, GPU, and CPU.
The 2080RTX has only one fan at the far end.

I tried running the GPU in the 8x slot but it made no difference.

CPU fan is a low profile Noctua.
DVD drive opening is blocked by that foamy plasticky material on the left.

The two fans at the front are blowing air inwards.

I found out that one of the front case fans (the Noctua on the right) was actually blowing air outwards, so I flipped it over to blow air in instead, no difference with the GPU, but the CPU is now 5c cooler.
Nothing is overclocked, XMP is disabled because Hitman 3 was crashing in XMP mode.

HWMonitor screenshot is when COTW is running. VSync is on at 60FPS (my monitor can only do 60FPS).

  11. Since a few weeks ago I constantly get desktop popups with Recommended Youtube music video's mostly in other languages. I have no idea why it started, I didnt change any settings. They appear a few times each day and have nothing to do with my Youtube subscriptions.

I tried turning of the below "Recommended Video" setting (I want to keep Desktop notifications on for my subscriptions), but that didn't help.

    Anyone else have this issue?
(Latest Google Chrome, desktop PC, Win10)

  12. Sounds like one of your HDD's are starting to fail.
CrystalDiskInfo (google is your friend) is a useful tool to determine if one of your drives are causing issues.
This tool will check the SMART status of your drives and alert you if there is a problem.

  13. First thing that came to mind before viewing this post is the PSU being underrated.
I think you should invest in a decent 750w PSU.

RAM could also be an issue, perhaps run Memtest (memtest.org) to check RAM stability.
If Memtest is failing, try dropping down the performance of the RAM to standard/relaxed speeds in the BIOS.

  14. Tried lots of keyboards, my favorite is the Logi MX keys, it is a membrane keyboard but the feel is VERY nice and super quiet (good for streaming), I prefer it to mechanical keyboards. Great for games IMO, short throw and great feel.
1/4 more expensive than 25000 HUF, but IMO it is worth the extra cost :) .. and it'll probably last way longer than other keyboards due to the quality.
The only thing I don't like is the mixed MacOS key printing on the ALT and START keys, I wish they would separate the Windows and Mac worlds and provide extra keys that are specific to Windows or Mac. The "Opt" and " Cmd" printing continues to confuse me during use. I guess I could just grab a black marker and draw over the MacOS printing lol
