  1. At the moment I'm looking at the Dell XPS 13 for about 1399, i5-8250U, 8GB ram, 128gb storage. For about the same price the asus one has an upgraded i7-8550, double the ram, and 4x the storage. That's a pretty big difference though
  2. Link to laptop: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=710_577_1044&item_id=116887&language=en This ultrabook has some insane specs for the price: 512GB SSD, i7-8550u, 16GB ram for just 1.3k. In comparison competitors like Dell, Lenovo, Razer, Microsoft, etc charge 2k+ for similar spec'd ultrabooks. Is there an issue I'm missing here? I rarely see this asus ultrabook mentioned in any recommendation lists and for the price, it's an enormous value. Some amazon reviews cite coil whine, heat, noise issues, but is there something else or is this actually a really good laptop for the price?
  3. Most of my files are .mkv and I have the video quality set to 2 Mbps, 720p
  4. I'm not sure how to check that, but I do know the CPU spikes to pretty much 100% when I stream videos so I'm guessing yes. Is there a way to turn it off?
  5. I recently got a Synology DS418play and it's supposed to be able to do 4k streaming. However, even with 1080p and sometimes 720p videos it's often very slow and buffers for a long time on Plex. I'm not sure if it's some sort of setting, but I can't seem to get it to stream lag-free within my home network. I heard that hardware acceleration could be enabled to help it, but I can't seem to find that option anywhere. Any suggestions for settings or solutions would be appreciated! Thanks
  6. Which fans would you guys suggest replacing the stock AIO fans with if I value noise slightly more than thermals? I want a good ratio of both, but a quiet system is more essential to me. Noctua P12's?
  7. Like other's have said, it's really personal. I used to have a blue switch and i love the clicky sound, but since I was living with roommates it gets way too loud and I switched to browns. I love em as well, but I kind of miss the sound. I know some people absolutely hate that clicky sound and if you're on discord/skype when you're gaming your mic will most likely pick up the clicking sounds as well.
  8. Apparently my 8700k is not vulnerable and was already patched, good to know
  9. Damn, that desk looks really good. But I don't think many people will pay that much for a desk. Maybe you can do some cheaper designs and not use super premium materials first, launch a kickstarter and get some traction going before making these super high end desks. Though logistics is going to be a huge problem Good luck though, you're really talented!
  10. Just built my new PC and I went with the Asus z370 Strix-F with Trident Z RGB ram. I've been having trouble managing the leds. When I power my computer off, the LEDs remain on and I read that turning of ERP in the bios would fix it. And it did, except now the LEDs don't automatically turn back on when my computer powers on. I have to go into the Asus Aura program and manually turn it on and off to reset the leds. The ram LEDs work fine and it looks like it's desync'd from my motherboard leds (as shown in the screenshot). Any help would be appreciated!
  11. Nope, are they supposedly good noise to performance wise? I heard good things about silent wings 3 as well. Considering that Im valuing silence > performance I might go for them
  12. I'm looking to replace the stock fans on my Kraken X62. I'm valuing silence more than performance, but if there's a good fan that provides an improvement on both compared to the stock fans I'd love to hear your suggestions. I've been looking at the Noctuas, Silent Wing 3s and Corsair MLs anyone with experience with those + Kraken X62? Open to suggestions, thanks!
  13. Hey guys, upgrading my system to an i7-8700k + Nzxt Kraken X62 and hoping to push it to 5.0 Ghz or more if i'm lucky. My question is, is the pre-applied thermal paste on the Kraken X62 good enough or will getting a 3rd party thermal paste get me significantly better thermals? If so, which one would you guys recommend? I figured if I'm going to be using this for 4-5 years, I might as well spend the extra $15 for better thermals before I install. Thanks!
  14. Hey guys, so I'm doing some major upgrades to my PC and I've got all my parts except my 8700k which should hopefully ship soon. I'm sure many of you have heard about the Asus ROG Strix Z370 LLC issue and unfortunately I purchased mine before I found out about it. Asus hasn't come out and said anything about fixes or bios updates, so I'm not sure when that will come. I have a 14 day return policy at the store where I bought it and I'm about to hit 14 days. Should I return the board and just buy a different one or keep it and hope Asus fixes the issue soon (I'm sure it will get fixed eventually). If I do return it, i'm probably looking at the Gigabyte Aorus Gaming , but i'm open to other suggestions if you guys have some. Are the top end boards worth the extra money? (Gigabyte Aorus 7/Asus Maximus), I might be willing to shell out the extra money if they are because I plan to stick with this board/cpu for 4-5 years. Here are my specs in case it helps: CPU: I7-8700k CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken x62 Ram: 16GB G.Skill Trident 3000mhz GPU: EVGA GTX 1070 PSU: EVGA G3 850W Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix Z370??? Thanks!
