Do you need to serve as in is it an obligation or did you sign up for it yourself?

Nah its obligated, either 6 months in the military or 9 months in social institutions we even get paid for but only 330€ per month though

yes it is basically forced work, the institutions can choose your specific schedule mostly its 40 hours/week, but they COULD enslave us for up to 60 hours/week

I know my father grew up in a time when every teenager/20 or so year old had to enroll in the war (he grow up in the cold war, so having a strong army was a priority, because yea.. that will protect us from Russia). He also was a (driver) paramedic. 

any sick time and is it paid?

yes a big part of austrias social services is depended on us slaves. The funny thing is that austria is neutral so our constitution does not allow any war related acts

@wcreek you can be sick for 2 weeks, more and you have to work it off when you are healthy again...

Same here bro. Except, I have like, the support of my parents and community based on my ultimate decision. IDK what you have at stake.
