From my experience pbo does nothing for the 3800x

So I was looking at the new b550 mobos and got to thinking, what’s the point of them?

now let me first say I actually really like the way they’ve been designed and would probably get a b550 over a X570 if I was to get a new mobo, but if you do away with the pcie4 feature, what’s the difference between the good b450 boards and the b550 for someone who wants to upgrade to a 4000 cpu or the new upcoming gfx cards (if the mobo gets same support for cpu)

From what I’ve seen they have better vrm cooling and power delivery (I know very little about this stuff just trying to understand) but let’s take the tomahawk max as an example, we’ve seen it’s able to run a 3950x fine at stock and can even handle a mild overclock on it with some decent airflow, even better than some X570 boards. Wouldn’t that mean the 4000 CPUs will be fine on a good b450 board from a technical standpoint? (Granted they’re provided support for the CPUs)

also when we think about the fact that amd plans a new socket in 2022 why would someone buy a b550 if their choice of b450 is provided support for the new CPUs coming later this year? Would their be any physical problems with these boards being able to run these CPUs?

also I’m having doubts about the usefulness of pcie4 for the next year or two, if you need a new mobo around 2022 then wouldn’t it make more sense to stick with your b450 mobo until the new socket is released? Will next gen gfx cards actually saturate pcie3? It just seems like outside of fast storage pcie4 on these mobos is kind of useless, since a new mobo will be needed by the time we would even need the full performance benefit of pcie4

(I am secretly looking for reasons to buy the b550 mobo. I just really want one, even though I have a great b450, somebody stop me from throwing my money at them  )
