  1. Using R9 280x which produces artifacts on regular basis. It's due for replacement.

  3. Bigger coolers allow better cooling capability and lower noise. Great stuff. The bulge on top of the card looks a bit weird.
  4. It's great to see how businesses succeed. Linus and his team did a great job so far! I was pleased to see Linus develop his own channel, because NCIX has always been focused on advertisement. Hopefully we still get to see all the faces we are accustomed to in the years to come.
  5. I think it would be great to add one more dataset to the test. It's cloning the data to a new HDD and then testing. It's clear that SSD is magnitudes faster in random small sector operations than HDD. However, there have been performance improvements in HDD performance as well. I think such data point would be great addition to this test. I have experienced solid performance boost after upgrading my data drive from 5 year old 1TB HDD to 3TB WD RED. Will look for benchmarks once I get home.
  6. The feature I like most is front speakers and good battery life. The cover is kinda AMAZING as well! +1 on that
  7. Tbh - there is no perfect fan. All of them must obey laws of physics and the air that they move does too. At times I feel like fan manufacturers and enthusiasts are borrowing from the 'audiophile' world, where technical measurements and positive listening experience can be two different things. Same goes to fans. Most people will have different understanding what is acceptable and what isn't. Snake oil! or is it?
  8. Most motherboards have option in UEFI/BIOS to choose fan control method between Auto/PWM/Voltage. In your case 3 pin fan you should set voltage. Did you switch to Software Controlled for the fan headers in Configure->Advanced when testing SpeedFan?

    PWM Splitter

Be careful with Swiftech PWM splitter and Corsair SP PWM fans control is lost with more then 4 fans connected. I have experienced this on x58 board. Reference link: http://forums.swiftech.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2428

    PWM Splitter

Do a simple test. 1) Plug your fan directly in the MB header. 2) Take any program that can report and control MB headers like Speedfan http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php or MSI Command Center http://www.msi.com/product/mb/Z87G41_PC_Mate.html#/?div=Utility&os=Win8.1 64 3) Using those programs you can monitor and change fan speed

    PWM Splitter

3pin fan can only be controlled by changing voltage that drives the motor. Motherboards often have voltage control as well. Just have to make sure PWM control is disabled - then MB should fall back to voltage control.

    PWM Splitter

I have experienced problems running more then 4 Corsair PWM fans from a single MB header. The control disappears once you plug in the 5th fan. Strangely the signal isn't strong enough. I was using Swiftech PWM splitter.
  13. Yesterday I discovered an issue which I was not anticipating. Maybe anyone else has experience/suggestions. Idea was to use Swiftech 8 way pwm splitter to control 6 Corsair SP120 QE PWM fans and use 'speedfan' as control utility. Link to splitter: http://www.swiftech.com/8-WayPWMsplitter.aspx link to fans: http://www.corsair.com/en-us/air-series-sp120-pwm-quiet-edition-high-static-pressure-fan However a strange issue occurred where once you connected more then 4 fans all control from speedfan was lost and fans started to run at full speed. As if the 5th fan shorted the circuit and removed any kind of control. CPU fan connector was used on Gigabyte x58a-ud3r. Connector was switched to PWM mode in BIOS instead of Auto. Using only 4 fans the splitter worked flawlessly and it didn't matter which connectors on the board were used. The amount of fans seemed to "break it". Has anyone else encountered a similar problem?
  14. That link doesn't point to Gentle Typhoons. People will get confused. http://www.frozencpu.com/products/10210/fan-654/Scythe_Gentle_Typhoon_120mm_x_25mm_Fan_-_1450_RPM_D1225C12B4AP-14.html
  15. Are you trying to reduce temperature of a particular component? Is your gpu overheating? Fans spinning at around 800-900rpm don't move a lot of air. It should be sufficient for idle, but during long gaming sessions the temperature might be a bit high. The front fans seem to be quite constricted. My recommendations: 1) If possible, remove the hard drive cages - they seem to be blocking airflow. 2) Consider putting fans in the following configuration (especially if the drive cage is not removable)
