  1. First I wanted to say "Thank you, Linus" for this giveaway. I won't win anyway, but I thank you beforehand in the name of those who do. A marry christmas to all of LMG! My Tech Gifts for my non-techie family would be an Nvidia Shield Pro + Remote http://amzn.com/B013HK3YH0 The thought behind this gift? Because my family hasn't started enjoying the bliss that is online video streaming, they still watch that rubbish that is TV. Since we all have amazon prime they would now have a nice, easy and free way to watch some nice movies without having to plug a laptop into the television and kneeling on the floor to control the thing (no Miracast on the TV we have). My parents obviously need something easy and the Android TV interface is perfect for that and far better than those propietary interfaces from the smart TVs themselves (not that we have one anyway). My little brother (15) isn't a passionate gamer like me, but he likes his mobile games, so the Shield would give him a nice opportunity for some solid gaming sessions. And maybe he would get into it more, start to resemble his bigger brother and game more hehe. Some nicer content would give my little sister (19) the incentive to join the rest of the family for a nice evening all together. Why the Shield in that particular config? The 500gb are for storing the occasional decent TV show and be able to put the music library of my father onto it to additionally get a nice music streaming device out of it. The remote obviously for convinience. My parents won't get accostomed to the idea of using a game controler to control the tv, lol. The shield and not some other alternatives (fire TV, Apple TV and such) because we techies all know it's the best performing device and the one with the most functionality. Plus the mentioned gaming capability for my little brother. Good luck everyone! P.S. In the remote possibility I get drawn...The shield pro + remote is 299$ on amazon atm. Me and my family will gladly take a lesser config if the price is to go up by the time of the drawing.
  2. Objective2 + Odac combo from headnhifi.com came today. This is so awesome. No sibilance, so clean...It was the DAC+Amp combo it seems. Pretty disappointed with this hyped ROG audio now. But who cares  Can only raccommend this for anyone with a wish for good audio... And for once we have a great site in europe too. JDS Labs and mayflower electronics for americans headnhifi for europeans (They all sell basically the same stuff since it's an open source design)

    HiFiMan Sale

When will our countries sign this TTIP so that we europeans can buy up all those sick deals that are offered on amazon.com?
  4. Thanks a lot for all the suggestions! I've decided to spend another 200€ on an AMP/DAC (O2 and ODAC combo to be specific) before spending more on headphones and reselling the AD900X. Want to be sure the headphones are at fault and not my other audio components.
  5. Hey@All one of my first posts here but I've been reading quite a bit. So I just got my AT ATH-AD900x last week and while it's a definite upgrade from my crappy Steelseries Siberia (LoL), I have quite a few issues with them. I am no audiophile, have never had a good pair of headphones and have resorted to using my JBL speakers and my Denon PMA-655R Amplifier for music listening. Nonetheless, I can discern good from poor audio (unfortuantely for my wallet I fear). Probably thats why I don't listen to music that often, since I have very few occasions I can use those speakers without getting shouted at for disturbing someone. A good pair of headphones was my idea to change this. I would say at the moment its 90% gaming, 10 % music listening. But I'd like to go to 80/20 or 70/30 so quality while listening to music IS important. I mainly listen to classic/power/progressive metal/Rock. No hiphop/rap/dance/electro at all. So back to the AD900x, plugged to my Mobo soundcard (Asus Maximus VI Hero) they are far too shallow, it definitely lacks bass/depth in my opinion. That problem goes away if I plug them to my amp, so I suspect, the sound card has something to do with it... Or it's just my Amp with the loudness button that does the trick for me. (Don't hit me if it's an audiophile sin of some sorts, be lenient with a noob ) It's not an ideal solution since I have to plug the AMP analogly and not digitally, but if it's acceptable and keeps me from having to spend another 100€ on an headphone DAC/AMP I would take it. My biggest gripe with the AD900xes are these, to my ears, incredibly sharp highs. It pains me when "S"s are pronounced in vocals and also in game the treble is far to sharp and pointy... ouch. So I'd like some raccomandations from you guys. My limit (and the limit is only for something really, really worth it) is 300€. Those AT where a steal, got them for 109 € used but in pristine condition. Think I can resell them for 180-200€ here in europe (since they cost 270€ everywhere else I looked) My criteria for the new headset would be: 1) Same or similar soundstage and 3D projection as the AD900x (need that for CS:GO) 2) A bit more base wouldn't hurt, but it's not a must. 3) Far less sharp treble. Like I said the AD900X are not airy, they are painful to me. Thought about the Bayerdinamic DT-990 pro, but I read that they have far more bass but also very sharp treble, so I fear they aren't the headphone for me either. I don't think I would like something to analytical aka flat. Perhaps some Sennheiser with their mitigated highs..? Looking forward to your opinions and many thanks for the help!!
  6. Hope I'm not too late for this Their whole site looks really elegant, as do their products. Italian names are always classy I think I like the keyboard the most, but I'd love to try the headphones, too, though they should make an open back version, especially if they call them "aria"(=air in italian)
  7. There are some crappy programmed MMOs that would highly benefit from 1-2 supercores instead of 4 because they are in fact CPU bottlenecked. Worst example of this would be "Tera" with Unreal 3 engine. Man, that game runs like shit. I really don't get what you are saying about the G3258... It's not like it has bigger cores then a 4770k, just 2 of them instead of 4 (and less cache and no HT and no iGPU). Like I said, there are games that are CPU bottlenecked, even on a 5960X. Because they simply don't use more than 1-2 cores no matter how many you throw at them. Usually because of shitty programming and usually online ones with many ppl on the screen.
  8. Ok Mr. Computer Science Major. At least enlighten us and explain to us how it would work, or do you only stop by, complain about "missing resarch" and then move along? What would this software layer be? A background running program? Does it have to be application specific? Would it help with gaming? Which applications would it help with? You know, not everybody can be as godly smart as you, solving the problems of humanity in your thesis.
  9. What you guys seem to forget in your hype is that skylake has already been tested... and there are no benefits to it compared to a 4790k in modern games, even CPU intensive ones. And the single threaded performance is up from haswell, but surely not by 2.4x and much more in line with the normal 10% generational IPC gains. Source:http://anandtech.com/show/9483/intel-skylake-review-6700k-6600k-ddr4-ddr3-ipc-6th-generation So imho there are 2 possibilities: 1)Either this inverse hyperthreading is a thing that has to be specifically implemented in software and therefore works only in specific situations, so forget about your DX9 games getting any benefits 2) This whole thing is not true
  10. I just bought a Asus ROG GM50 and can raccomend it. It's the perfect size for me (380mm x 280mm) and pretty understated with the colouring. The rubber bottom works well to prevent movement of the pad, the edges of the pad are braided to make it sturdier agains wear and the mousing surface has a good mix of speed and control. Plus it's not immensly overpriced for the features.
  11. Linus, you know that it is quite a contradiction if you say something like "the LG Freesync is not so good, since it has a narrow ARR window of 45-75 Hz" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1QKx7IDw6Y, then go on to say "you should target a 45+fps range with your settings anyway since ACC doesn't bring nearly as many benifits under those fps, the difference between G- and freesync is negligible" in this video and then say "edge cases are not important to me, you should target a 45-75 fps range with your settings, everything is great" in this last Sager one. If you change your mind about things, at least make it (more) clear in your videos. Only fools never change their mind. Thanks!
  12. Don't have the time to spare to see if this was already posted as a feedback, but I find it a shame that I cannot discuss or comment videos on this forum that have not been released on youtube yet. What if I want to talk about the Acer 144Hz IPS monitor? No related topic to be found here. I understand that you don't want to spoil the surprise for those that remain youtube only, but you have to try to find a solution for this. I, like many others will be too lazy to wait 7 days to comment a video we saw and will simply be discouraged to take part in the community.

  14. Had to turn the speed on youtube up to 1.25x to feel the "linus-experience". For my tastes you could speak faster . Otherwise well done! It's evident you know your stuff when it comes to FPS so that was great!
