  1. After viewing the latest video, it appears that there was a collective desire within the company (and long-time viewers) for a significant overhaul of LMG. We've witnessed various on-screen personalities at LTT expressing the same sentiment in previous videos as well. However, it took a few videos from Steve for them to come to this realization.

The forum post by Linus here is something that should never have been posted. It's reassuring to see that Linus still has sensible individuals around who can guide him in the right direction.

As consumers, we've experienced being taken advantage of by these tech corporations on numerous occasions. Content creators such as Linus, Steve, and others are our only hope in confronting these greedy corporations.

P.S. Salute to Tech Jesus for calling out LTT to push them to change for the better.

Privacy ended when they forced the Facebook data sharing on everyone

As per the new rules, WhatsApp will be required to share the "first originator of information", and for them it means breaking the end-to-end encryption and tracing its users. This would essentially require to maintain a traceable database of all private chats on its platform. What little privacy there was will cease to exist.

The government framed the privacy laws so badly that even Facebook-owned WhatsApp is talking about privacy & decided to sue them. Just think about it.

I know there are no good guys here, but it's just really ironic.

  3. I frankly do not believe that the Indian government will really be banning these platforms tomorrow. Such regulations are always implemented arbitrarily -- just have a look what is going on b/w OTT platforms and the government in India.

Even if the Indian government does go ahead with the banning, it will probably be only Twitter, in my opinion. But chances of even that happening are minuscule.

  4. I clean the exterior every week or so along with the monitor, keyboard and mouse. Sometimes I use my multipurpose automotive polish on the exterior of the case as well, gives it that extra shine ✨ (my case does not have a tempered glass side-panel btw).

I haven't the inside ever since I've built it though.

Ah, okay. Doesn't Hindi have its own font type, though? Something that remotely reminds of Arabic font?

Yes, Hindi does have it's own font type, but it's easier to type it that way. I believe, it's called Hinglish (Using english keyboard to type Hindi).

Typing hindi takes a tad bit of time. There are lots of curves and lines (matraye as we call it in Hindi) so it's pretty time consuming.

  6. We have a similar app called Aarogya Setu here in India for contact tracing and self-assessment. It uses the Bluetooth and GPS location of the device to determine if the user has been near an infected person, and then alerts them. Earlier the source code of the app was not public, but after growing security and privacy concerns it was made public around last month.

It also displays how many covid-19 infected persons are within a 1km, 3km, 5km... radius.

  7. Greatly appreciate your help guys, thank you! I think I will go with Linux mint. It looks a lot like windows, and I believe I will be able to adjust to it quite easily. Hopefully, I will be able to have it up and running during the weekend.

    Aloha! Have a great day!!

  8. Hello Laddles and Jellyspoons,

I have an old pc that's been lying in the garage gathering dust. One of my friends told me I will be able to resurrect it if I install Linux on it.

I have seen that there are many distros of linux, and I'm confused about which one should I install. I've never worked with linux before, and  I just plan on to browse the web and edit documents at the most.

    Specs:

    Intel Pentium E6700 @ 3.20G

    4 GB DDR 2 ram

    320 Gb hdd

    Any help is much appreciated.

'Download this tracking app or be arrested', sounds very damned draconian for a nation that's supposedly a democracy; I doubt they got to vote on it. I also don't see how any average person would think a government-mandating tracking app is a good thing.

The government has made it mandatory to download the app only for government workers and employees of private food delivery services. I have not downloaded the app, and I have not been arrested or fined. The government just wants to encourage everyone with a smartphone to download the 'Aarogya Setu' app; it has no power to make the use of the app compulsory without legislative consent.

While the government initially claimed that the use of the app would be purely voluntary, it soon made it mandatory to download the app for government workers, but the use of the app for normal people is more or less voluntary.

A coupe of days ago, I helped my mom configure the app. All it asks for is your age, gender, travel history, and symptoms. The app shows a message if you are in "moderate" or "high-risk" which is based on your proximity to a contacted person who has tested positive for the virus. You just have to keep your location sharing to 'always' and the app sends your location data to the government. Once the epidemic is over, the users can delete the app.
