Nintendo switch has a 6.2" 720p Capacitive Multi-touch display
Autoimmunity replied to goodtofufriday's topic in Tech News
Everyone saying that 720p isn't enough for a 6" screen needs to remember that the 3DS had a 5" screen at a resolution of 800x240. The Switch wouldn't be able to run games at 1080p on the go anyway, as that would kill it's battery life. By running at 720p, the Tegra chip won't have to use nearly as much power. Running the games at a lower resolution than the screen also isn't a great option, as a 1080p screen would make a 720p game look blurry as hell and a 1440p display is probably much too expensive. -
I tend to move my monitors around a lot, as they are on arms. If I don't screw in the DVI connectors, they simply pop out.
-
I agree. I'm still using one monitor with DVI, but my other 2 are DP, and my god I can't wait until I don't have to deal with DVI cables anymore. The screws are just such a pain to work with. Displayport has a much better locking mechanism.

Even though the 480 consumes more power, it is still miles better than cards from a generation or two ago. If you have had any GPU from before 2014, it used more power than the 480 does now. It simply isn't a big enough factor to base a purchase on. The heat these cards generate is also much less than previous generations as well. Base your purchase on budget and performance, nothing more.

Civ 6 and Battlefield are console ports? This is news to me. I get what you're saying, but again, the point I was responding to was that there are no DX12 games coming, which is untrue. There are. This also doesn't even take into account Vulkan, which has shown the same results as DX12. Nvidia gets slight bumps while AMD gets massive ones. Personally, I think the RX 480 is a better choice for anyone who doesn't plan to upgrade next year.
-
And with time, and driver updates this will improve. The post I quoted said that DX12 wasn't coming for a while, which it clearly IS. It's important that people are aware that more and more DX12 games are coming later this year. There also has yet to be a DX12 only game, which is probably why it's so buggy at the moment, because it's been added on to all these games very recently. Running a game engine off an entirely new API that works completely differently from the previous one is going to require some bug squashing through patches. Gears of War 4 will be an interesting one, as it is a UWP game and requires DX12.
-
By the time DX12 and Vulkan are required, Pascal will be ancient anyway. It's not like devs are going to force people to use DX12 immediately, do you remember how long it took for DX11 to be required? Even if Pascal doesn't last once DX12 and Vulkan are mainstream it won't matter, because they won't be fast enough to run the games anyway. By 2019 we're going to have new consoles and a 1080 will be the equivalent of a 680 today.

I don't know where you live but where I live a tank of gas is currently around $30, and I get about 15 gallons per fill.

Microsoft wants your help to Make PC Gaming Great Again!
Autoimmunity replied to AlTech's topic in Tech News
Windows 7 released in 2009. At that time, 8GB of RAM was enthusiast level, not common. Most had 4GB or even 2GB or less of RAM. It's now 2016 and most laptops are shipping with 8GB of RAM, so of course Windows 10 is going to use it more liberally. You're complaining that a new OS which is built for today's technology can't run as well on the same amount of RAM as the nearly 7 year old OS it's replacing. What a dumb argument. It's like getting mad that your GPU doesn't run new games as well as it did 6 years ago. -
Zotac 750ti 2gb vs EVGA GeForce GTX 750Ti 2gb (regular)

In that case, search for used cards on Ebay. You'll find a better card for a lower price. Might be able to get a 660ti for $50 or so. -

There may be another game next year that you would like to play. The 750ti is going to be unusable for any 2017 games other than indie titles. Wait a bit, or spend some more, and have a more future-proof solution. -

If anything, at least wait for something like the RX 460 to release. It supposedly has 960-level performance, and will be much much faster than a 750ti, while probably being around the same $100 price point. I agree with don_svetlio, the 750ti is a poor purchase at this point. It was fantastic 2 years ago, but times have changed. It is not a good card for GTA, and it certainly isn't a good card for Skyrim if you plan on doing any modding.
