Idk if you still have this problem or have moved on to another phone, but Google has a tool called Battery Historian just for this. No root required, no endless trial and error, just a bugreport that can be dumped natively from any phone. This is the way to diagnose power consumption issues for Android devs.
This is better than any app you'll ever use because every other app uses data pulled from this. It reveals way more than just what app used what, and it'll show all the hidden things like kernel wakelocks, anything that can be tracked will be in this log.

Sorry to necro, but I haven't seen this suggested yet, even though it's the best way to diagnose battery issues, so I hope this helps others with this problem
