  1. Actually read my post please, it explains why fresh installing may not even fix the issue.
  2. Clean installing should be the last resort, not the first. It may not even fix the problem, because chrome and most other browsers sync your settings and extensions with a sign-in. You could reset your pc, getting rid of everything, and then sign into chrome and have it all back again. If malwarebytes and everything else didn't find it, chances are it's a chrome extension. You know what syncs across installations with a chrome sign in? Extensions. If it's a chrome extension causing redirects, and he resets his computer, what's the first thing he'll do? Download and sign into chrome, syncing his extensions and ending up no better off, but missing all his programs. It's this kind of lazy attempt at a response that made me stop publicly helping people on forums, because some jackass will come in and tell me that the thing I've been doing daily for 5+ years can't be done, and everyone will believe him. Resetting a computer should be the absolute last resort; if nothing else can fix it, reset it.
  3. That's not very helpful Run Hitman Pro, Adware Removal tool, and malwarebytes deep scan/ae. If that doesn't help, it could be a browser extension. Reset your browser, and if all else fails, do a windows refresh.
  4. 1. Running the script on any machine results in the same result, despite settings/group policy. 2. I use night theme and can see it just fine, but I'll remove whatever formatting it had.
  5. I'm trying to create a script that will download and run a file, then kill it once it's done. My goal is to update runtimes (java, flash, etc) in one swift shot. The issue i'm running into is any script I make (powershell) runs fine on the local system, but taking the script to any other machine throws "cannot be loaded because running scripts is disabled on this system.". I can run "set-executionpolicy unrestricted" on a given machine, but I need everything to be a one shot item; is there a solution for this? This is what my script looks like { If (-NOT ([Security.Principal.WindowsPrincipal][Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity]::GetCurrent()).IsInRole([Security.Principal.WindowsBuiltInRole] "Administrator")) { $arguments = "& '" + $myinvocation.mycommand.definition + "'" Start-Process powershell -Verb runAs -ArgumentList $arguments Break } wget https://drive.google.com/uc?export=download"&"id=0B23KvKA052gSU0dJQ3Azd2dQblU -outFile C:\Users\Public\Downloads\updater.exe start-sleep -Seconds 5 start C:\Users\Public\Downloads\updater.exe start-sleep -seconds 15 Stop-Process -processname Ninite }
  6. Try out Sierra, it's not much different than El cap, and should properly support wide screen resolutions. Alternatively, given it's from 2007, try updating the bios on the video card inside the machine. They run a custom bios, and they may not have had the foresight to support super wide screen resolutions.
  7. Close ish (Full disclosure: That's an affiliate link).
  8. I get what you're saying... but that isn't it at all. I make 1-2 videos per quarter and only to showcase things like this so... I mean I get it, but obviously I want people to watch the video. I didn't make the video to go viral or anything, I found a lack of information on the internet and filled the gap with my own knowledge. A youtube video is much easier for someone to follow than a lengthy post on a forum.
  9. I got extremely tired of windows 10 updates being forced upon me, but was unable to find any helpful information out on the googles. So I called microsoft, and... They told me. Stupid simple. *link removed* Hope I ease some of your guy's frustrations.

@KemoKa I agree that Wendell does still care; and he shows that on his more personal channels and twitter. My other points still stand; especially the conspiracy theory linux is best circle jerk part.

Tek Syndicate has burned itself to the ground t…

Honestly their content has been crap for 2+ years now. I used to like watching their stuff, enjoyed the tek, etc. But it's mostly been a conspiracy theory and "linux is better" circle jerk, the hosts don't enjoy doing what they do, they hate their fans (in some cases lash out at them), and they've gotten lazy. I saw this coming from a mile away, they've been in decline hardcore since HighLANder. Honestly, good riddance. Let someone else take their place; god knows they didn't want it.
  12. Heh, that would not work. Each part has a serial number, and they are all connected. When you replace the logic board, you have to change the serial number back to the old one, and then you would have two logic boards with the same serial number, and that would probably make the world explode. Don't do that haha.
  13. Well it's not really being reflowed, it's being re manufactured with the correct temperature solder. BIOS locked macs are a thing? Oh, and whatever mbp you get, make sure it has no physical damage. If it has ANY physical damage (not scratches) like dents, cracks, or major chips, the technician will not replace it. Mine was damaged on the corner, but since I did the recall myself I just kinda lied a little bit, but most technicians aren't willing to lose their apple license for a random customer, given that apple often sends fake customers their way to see if they are being ripped off.
  14. It's an awesome machine, and since the entire logic board is being replaced, there isn't the worry of it failing because it's a 5 year old machine.
  15. Honestly, you can probably find dirt cheap 15 inch 2011 macbooks that have the GPU issue, and then put it through the recall. It will be a few days before you get it back, but it shouldn't cost anything to get it repaired. I've got a 2011 i7 2.2Ghz that I put 16 GB of RAM and 2 SSDs in. Got it for free, did the recall myself.
  16. The 15 inches are currently using AMD cards. They used to use Nvidia back in the 8600 days for their 17 inches, but those were kinda terrible and died all the time. I don't know if they plan on making an nvidia model, but currently all their models are AMD/intel.
  17. Silly me, I assumed 15 inch. You're correct that it only has the integrated graphics, and it does not currently fall under any recalls. I'm going to take a wild stab in the dark and say it's most likely a logic board issue, but do me a favor and put the original RAM back in there, and install the OS that was new when the machine came out (Snow leopard IIRC). If it boots with that, it may either be RAM incompatibility or OS derping on the drivers.
  18. Serial number is printed on the bottom of the machine. I can check the status of warranty/specs/year/history of repair with that, and be able to help you better.
  19. What is the serial number? All MBP's from 2007(?) on have a dedicated GPU as well, that is what makes them Macbook Pros.
  20. The late 2010 to early 2012 MBP has a known GPU issue, and is currently under recall. As long as your macbook is not physically damaged, you can get a brand new logic board for free from apple. One thing I want you to do before going to an apple store (go to a local apple verified dealer, apple store "geniuses" are stupid), is turn it on and wrap it in a blanket. Leave it running for 10-20 mins and then shut it off and try booting to OSX again. If it boots, this confirms 100% that it's the GPU issue (as the overheating disables the AMD card and switches to intel; the reason it boots to other OS's in the first place). Source: Apple tech.
