So I have been having the same problem as you guys did with my ASUS TUF FX505DV, Ryzen 3750H. I've been playing Valhiem and periodically, I would dropp to .39 mhz. After careful monitoring, it's actually bad thermals. I noticed my temps were about 89°c, but the game is single threaded so 1 core was working a lot harder then the rest. Eventually it tripped the thermal protection at 104°c, then after downclocking to .39 mhz to recover, comes back to full speed. I took my laptop apart and re-applied the thermal past. Now it hits 98°c but no stutter or drops to .39 mhz.

Hi! Did you apply thermal paste or liquid metal?

    Hello guys!

i'm french (sorry for my english) and i'm in the same situation like you, same laptop, same crazy shit.

I tried everything to fix this Ryzen 7 3750h problem (drivers, bios v300, ryzen controller etc...) and today i found this software https://bitsum.com/parkcontrol/

With this software you can make all your core cpu working and (the most interresting setting) you can disable the CPU frequency variation. in this way it's always at same frequency and cannot drop everytime.

I tried with fallout 4 ultra settings (with lots of graphic mods) and with armory crate (manual settings fan at 50%)

As you know maybe, optimisation of this game is very baaaaaaaad.

I played 1 hour and no problem when the cpu is up to 80-90° (at this temperature normaly it's dropping)

So i think i solved the problem.

Let me know if it's working for you. I will let you know in couple of days if everything is ok for me

    have a nice week end!

Thanks for the comment, could you share your Park Control settings?

the throttling came back after 3-4 hours of gaming, even on splitgate. Seems its directly related to how warm it gets. CPU drops down to 400 and hence it drops the FPS. It´s much better than before but I still wouldnt expect it from a month old machine. #ithastogoback

Same here when playing Apex. Even on BIOS 300 there's throttle every minute or two, with Ryzen Controller this seems to reduce but it happens anyway. Plastic vents already removed. Don't know what else to try next, but with the new BIOS the throttle issue is significantly reduced

It was released December 23 2019 so good luck with your waiting. ASUS has already messed up so bad with this laptop model and now they can't even push a BIOS update properly through Windows update. Even the last 208 BIOS that ASUS released was installed by Windows Update  and is still in my Windows folder. You don't wanna trust me no sweat off my back.

Has anyone else tried this? Been searching the web for some references on the 300 ver. of the BIOS, but couldn't find anything. @Bobbydigital do you have the link with the BIOS changelog? Thanks for your solution btw.

Not correct. It is not set by default to Silent mode when Armoury Crate not yet installed. When you get a fresh install, the laptop set itself to different modes in order on what are you running, so if you're running a game it presets itself to Turbo mode automatically.

When Armoury Crate installed the laptop behaves the same way, the only thing that this app gives you is to add a manual set to configure both CPU and GPU fans RPM, or force the laptop to wotk on Silent mode even if you're running a game. Nothing else. What actually """"""fixes""""" the throttling is a file called ThrottlingHelperXML, that is included in the same zip file from where you install ArmouryCrate v2.5.8

My unit doesn't throttle anymore, even if I play 8 hours in a row any gme at any graphic setting. Not sure what I've done exactly. The only issue I'm still getting in my case is shitty performance. For example, in Dishonored 2 I get only 82fps max on low preset with drops to 60-40fps wich is bullshit and makes it unplayable. And if I go all way up and crank the setting to Ultra I get the same performance as in low preset w 74fps max and same fps drops.

Seems that you have found a real solution to the throttle problem. I can't seem to find the Armoury Crate v.2.5.8, just the v2.5.7, do you have the installer or a link so i can test it out? Thanks

EDIT: Found, just can't find the ThrottlingHelperXML file...

It appears the unit is definitely throttling due to BD Prochot, just confirmed this in HWINFO when running without Ryzen Controller. You can see in the picture that the BD Prochot has triggered and MSI afterburner shows the CPU throttling to 400Mhz.  It isn't from the CPU though, as HWINFO says its from EXT which would be another device. I'm going to try just using Ryzen controller with just the VRM setting turned up and if it works then the problem with our unit is thermal throttling due to VRM's overheating. Not seeing any sensor for VRM's so I can't see what temps they are at.

    Update

Just using the STAPM and PPT limits works fine, there's a slight performance increase but can't find any way to measure VRM temps so if you change them do so at your own risk.

Ryzen Controller seems to still use settings you have altered even after unchecking them and hitting apply. So if you have used previous settings you need to uninstall Ryzen Controller through add/remove programs and then delete the following folders which will remove all stored settings. You will need to goto

    C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\ryzencontroller

    C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\RyzenController

Hi Bobbydigital, so it works for you to set STAPM, PPT Slow and PPT Fast on 45 and leaving everything else unchecked?

Think I may have 100% solution now that I have had time to mess around with my unit for a week. Its actually really simple too but will likely void your warranty so be warned now. ASUS has put this black plastic film over the intakes for the coolers, likely for dust prevention but it seems to block air flow. Just take the bottom cover off and where the vents on the bottom cover you will see metal brackets with this black plastic covering the vents to the outside of the unit. Just take a sharp object and carefully trim it off around the fan shapes inside the metal bracket. Assemble the unit back together, install Ryzen Controller, change the max temp in it to 67C, hit apply and make sure ASUS armory crate is set to Turbo. You can also play around with the max temp, increasing it will give you higher clock rates but increases the heat and chances of throttling so tweak away until you get the results your looking for.

I am now able to run Shadow of Tomb Raider at highest settings and absolutely no drops at all. CPU temp stay within limits and the GPU now hits a max of 71C. CPU freq is still boosting to max too at times, but because the game is heavily threaded it usually sits anywhere between 3400-3800 while playing. Playing the Nintendo Switch Yuzu emulator which is mostly single threaded the boost clock stays at 4000Mhz. With the fans being able to get decent air flow the machines thermals sit in that sweet spot where it seems not to throttle, no drops yet after many hours of Tomb Raider, Fortnite and other taxing games.

I had pretty decent results using just Ryzen Controller and setting max temp to 67C but still had a few drops here and there so you maybe able to get away without having to remove the plastic from the vents. I can't guarantee anything on your guys units as they could be a almost a year old now or perhaps even new but have a worse paste job then mine from the factory. Good luck and hope it work for you guys, pretty happy with the laptop now that it runs like a beast!

Great work. Gonna try your new Ryzen Controller settings then. When you enable the max temp, is it the only applied setting? or did you keep the PPT Fast and Slow Limits?

Was your fan profile on turbo? I am still messing around with Ryzen Controller as I just got this laptop yesterday. After playing Shadow of the Tomb Raider for a bit which really pushes the machine I noticed a few drops to 400Mhz again, by lowering the PPT Fast Limit to 15 I was able to get rid of these drops. Going to likely need some more tweaking.

Nice. Fans on Windows profile, where on full speed though.  Gonna try changing PPT Fast Limit to 15.

Alright guys I think I have a solution that will hopefully work for you guys! Using ryzen controller try the following settings from the pictures.  With these settings I am able to boost to 3950Mhz at times and no drops to 400Mhz and the temps seem to be much lower also.  I am running BIOS version 207 and the latest Nvidia drivers from Geforce Experience. You will also need to select  a profile  in the ASUS Armoury Crate to keep your laptop cool enough depending on how much the game/app pushes your system. If you are still having drops to 400Mhz  lower PPT Fast Limit by one and try again. You can also check the auto start and auto apply in the settings tabs to have this automated if these settings work for you. Please let me know if this works for any of you and perhaps we can get ASUS to push a BIOS update with this tweaked values instead.

Tried your settings today, i can confirm the temps and throttle are reduced significantly, but still happens when on heavy tasks. Tests where made on PUBG LITE with FPS uncapped. And on BIOS 208.

Did you find any other tweak to apply on Ryzen Master?

I think we managed to resolve it. I just did a 5 min stress test and it was fine. I am downloading a game to test.

I spoke whit ASUS support line. They had me go to BIOS res F9 to restart BIOS settings then pres F10 to save and exit. Please try it out and let me know how it goes for you @mussifer and @st_jimmy97

Nice. How did it go with the game test? Did you notice any throttle?

    Gonna try that soon.

Uninstalling dervishes did not help I do have USA phone number I will call ASUS support on Monday. I did not try removing RAM since I don see a dedicated RAM bay on the bottom and I am afraid that I would not be able to RMA the laptop  or get my money back.

I had some success by going into power settings  and limiting max processor usage but that only postpones the issues. The weird thing is that when I change the minimum usage from 100% to 99% my max clock speed get stuck on 1700 MHz. I do not have any problems at that speed but most of the games I tried are unplayable with decent settings. Please try reducing minimum processor usage in windows power settings I am interested to see if what your clock speeds would be.

I would like to try that activating that power plan so If you have any steps on how to do so please post them them or post a link.

I also reached out to ROG and AMD forums but no replay on these at the time. You can maybe monitor them in case a solution pops up or note there so they can see that more then one person has the same issue if you want.

    https://community.amd.com/thread/244625

The power plan i'm talking about does the same thing regarding the processor usage. It is meant to remain stuck when set at 99%.

The 16gb of RAM are soldered so there is actually no RAM to be removed.

Lately i've been hearing that maybe the next BIOS update with ABBA AGESA could solve this issue, which was supposed to be released late September, but as ASUS hasn't stated anything regarding this issue i would not expect much. Hopefully it is not a hardware related problem.

  12. How did it go by removing the RAM? I have the same issue and been trying many solutions (BIOS, chipset driver, armoury crate services...)without any success. Have you tried uninstalling the CPU driver as someone said on the other thread? Think i'm gonna try that next.

Just in case, you can reduce the throttling by activating the ryzen balanced Power Plan, because it sets the CPU freqs to 2.3 Ghz, without boosting. Therefore, performance is thrash but stable.

Let me know if you have any updates.

Same thing happened to me today. ASUS Support insisted that it was a hardware fault with the CPU and that they would fix it. I'm not convinced since I believe that the bios that came with my laptop (I think it was 204) didn't have that problem. Unfortunately, the older bios versions are not available to download from ASUS website. Planning on sending it in tomorrow unless I can find a way to fix it.

Did you send it already? You can get the 205 BIOS by changing the number in the download link of the older ones. i.e. https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/GamingNB/GU502DU/GU502DUAS205.zip?

  14. Hi guys, i own the same laptop and i'm currently having the exact same issue resulting in huge fps drops. I'm on BIOS 208 and also tried 207 without success. Did you figure out what is causing this throttle? I've also tried reinstalling Armoury Crate stuff but the throttle persists. Currently thinking about going back to 206 BIOS, but not sure though if it is safe to keep downgrading. Here are a few articles related to see if you we can figure this together:

I've opened a ticket on ASUS assistance to notice the error. Waiting for response.
