Resetting bios with battery removal can take some time. Preferably reset it by shorting the pins on the motherboard for 5 seconds while powered off, this works instantly.

Another ram stick would definately be helpfull in troubleshooting.

I left the cmos bettery for around 40mins and drained the whole system out of electricity. It worked

  2. I turned on my pc after 9 months alongside changing the cooler to a NHD-15 Chromax from a H100i Platinum. Now it won't get into bios.

The motherboard's stuck on the dram yellow led.

I tried the standard troubleshooting procedure for ram issues (removed cmos battery and drained the system out of power, repositioned the ram into A2 slot)

Still can't get into bios. I only have one stick of ram so can't check if the ram died. Is there's any other option to check if it's a ram issue or not?

Otherwise I'd have to rma the ram.

    Specs:

    i5-9600K

    Asus Strix Z390-F

    1x8gb Gskill Tridentz 3200mhz cl16

    No gpu

    So many questions....

What do you mean you get a lot of CPU+Mobos to test? From where? To test for what? I take it they must all be APUs if you don't have a graphics card to test them now?

If you're testing them, why are you overclocking them? Are you testing what overclock they can achieve? if so and they're APUs yes, that can affect the situation because both video and general CPU tasks are being done on the same die, meaning more heat... and power requirement will be higher to start with.

I usually oc for people who aren't brave enough to tinker with their pc on their own (Not apus).
I guess I have to hold of for now until the gpu returns.

    Hi

I‘ll have to travel due to my work and so I‘m gonna be a lot of days isolated after the flights. So I wan‘t to buy a gaming laptop for the hotel room isolations.

I found two good deals at my local tech shop in my pricerange but I‘m not sure which one I should pick:

    A)

    Lenovo Legion 5 (15.60“)

    - nVidia GeForce RTX 3060

    - AMD Ryzen 7 5800H (5th Gen)

    - 2x8Gb DDR4 RAM (3200MHz)

    - 1080x1920 Px at 144Hz

    - 1TB SSD

    - Batterypower at 80Wh

    B)

    Asus ROG Strix G15 (15.60“)

    - nVidia GeForce RTX 3060

    - AMD Ryzen 7 5800H (5th Gen)

    - 2x8Gb DDR4 RAM (????MHz)

    - 1080x1920 Px at „300Hz“

    - 1TB SSD

    - Batterypower at 90Wh

I have to decide on Monday the 14th, really looking forward tohear from you ❤️

    Best Wishes from Switzerland,

    Chris

    G15 bruh, 'cause it's a bit better

    This is a little unique.

I am attempting to upgrade my old laptop to make it faster. I want to know will upgrading RAM speed improve my laptop performance?

NOTE: It has an Intel i7-8550U (4 core), 16GB RAM (one stick, one unoccupied) @ 2400 MHz.

BTW: I use this PC with a monitor and I multitask. I will have a lot of programs and tabs open at once.

Yeah It will. Do you have a ssd?

So I haven't been in the loop for the latest news when it comes to laptop's but I just got a request from a friend.

He is an older gentlemen (70+) that is a photographer and now is also having to do video editing. He didn't provide any clear definition of what he needs, other than to be around the budget to edit drone footage. I know pricing has been a mess due to silicone and now even memory shortages, but is this reasonable?

Also I have very little knowledge in terms of actual needs for video editing and encoding, how much ram, storage and GPU is recommended would be appreciated.

    Budget: ~$2k USD
Needs/wants I think may be applicable:

    - Not be a Mac (I was a bit surprised, seems he has always been a windows guy and never got into Mac).

    - Larger screen (17" I would think is preferred due to his age but I might advise to buy a separate screen as well, beyond his current budget).

    - Memory: 32GB? (I assume this is the norm for video editing now? any idea?)

    - Storage: ssd/nvme 1TB+? (I would think some fast ssd or nvme storage is a must with enough space to handle his projects)

    - CPU/GPU: Whatever he can get, something balanced of course but with enough juice to be able to do the editing and encoding reliably.

    - A mainstream/business vendor that may have better support if something goes wrong is preferred. Originally I thought of maybe a Lenovo but haven't looked too deeply into it. This is only a side benefit, not a real requirement.

    Asus Zephyrus G17 2021

I use AutoCAD and Sketchup most of the time, but they are both mostly CPU intensive right? I would be using a GPU for programs like VRay and Ensuite, I would love to get something with RTX cores so in the future when I get a bit better at what I am doing I can do more realistic and beautiful renders.

Asus G15 2021 would be nice

My actually temps are like 37-44 while gaming sometimes rising to 50 before going back down. When it idles its 28-29 with spikes up to 45. Is it safe to keep gaming with this cpu? I dont want to really decrease the lifespan. It only ever got close to the 90s in prime95 and none of the games I play push the cpu that hard at all.

If you set pime95 to smallest fft, it'll scorch a supernova like heat and it's pretty normal.
If you wanna test stability, try small fft and disable avx-512.
And for thermal limit test, disable avx2 and set small fft or blend. You're good to go

I built my GF a pc recently. She only uses it to play Fortnite. The problem is cpu temps are crazy. The game will be fine for a few minutes then cpu temps get crazy then the performance drops. The only way to keep the game running at 60fps at this point is to drop all graphics settings to rock bottom. I bought a new AIO cooler from cooler master but it still has the issue of temp spikes and performance drops. Any ideas on what to do? Maybe it’s a faulty cpu?  Here is the parts list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/kYJDHz

Is your cooler exhausting or intaking? 120mm aio is a waste in most cases

I have upgraded my CPU to a 5800x for a month or two now, was running it with my U12S.

Due to high load temps with the U12S, I have switched it to a H100i Pro RGB hoping to lower temperatures. (I already own the AIO, did not buy one just for this)

The conclusion is that, no thermal change at all!

Cinebench R23 30min test peaks my thermal at 85C, under both coolers.

During games, this is the only slight difference, U12S stayed around 70C while the AIO stayed around 67C.

Casual web browsing still see temperature vary from 35C to 50C.

All the test were ran with a -0.0875 voltage offset.

I understand that the 5800x is known to be a hot chip, and it was my first hot chip to deal with. (My past CPUs were 4790, 8700, both non-k)

I plan to go custom loop just for my CPU, but I am not sure if it will make much of a difference since the AIO performed on par with an air cooler.

NHU12S vs H100i Pro in this case is like burgers from McDonalds US vs UK
If you want better temps, get a 280/360mm aio or a NH-D15 (reccomended)

They just use rebranded Asetek coolers with Gen 7 pumps, same with almost everyone else

Yeah, Corsair one's are not on the list and they're the one tending to fail the most among others.

    1 hour ago, OfficialTechSpace said:

I'm unaware of the "better pumps" you speak of.

Is it the build or electrical, I dunno. But NZXT one's run quieter and die less in my experience.

  13. 1 minute ago, OfficialTechSpace said:

Nothing unless you're speaking of using entry-level or mid-tier air coolers and wanting good performance in overclocking.

I have my 5600X running 4.7Ghz @ 1.325V with a 280mm AIO, and I still hit 83°C under load. Using lesser coolers on a more core-heavy part is not a good idea.

My H100i Platinum died when I drove my 9600K to 5.1ghz. Replacement H150i sealed it at 91C.
My friend's Nhd15 kept it at 79-81C. Now waiting for a nhd15 chromax to show up on my door.
Lost around 40usd, but was worth it.
